LG LEVERAGES DISPLAY EXPERTISE, ENTERS MEDICAL IMAGING MARKET

LG’s First Medical Imaging Devices Deliver High Resolution,
Accurate Images for Wide Range of Hospital Settings

LG Surgical Monitor 8MP and Clinical-Review-Monitor DXD.

SEOUL, Nov. 28, 2016 — Leveraging years of experience in advanced flat-panel display technology, LG Electronics (LG) is entering the growing medical imaging devices market with the introduction of clinical and surgical monitors designed to empower healthcare professionals to make accurate and informed life-saving decisions. The new monitors and an advanced new radiography device are being previewed this week at RSNA® 2016, the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America in Chicago.

LG 8MP Clinical Review Monitor

The LG 8MP Clinical Review Monitor is a 27-inch IPS monitor driving 3840 x 2160 pixels specifically designed to increase hospital staff efficiency by enabling streamlined work flows and multitasking. In addition to enhanced brightness levels, this monitor provides healthcare professionals with wide viewing angles, minimal color shift and accurate images. The monitor is Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) compliant, which means that grayscale tones are corrected to maintain image accuracy. Finely calibrated to ensure consistency across multiple devices, the monitor is equipped with backlight stabilization technology to guarantee stable luminance levels. Dynamic Sync Mode reduces input lag, while Flicker Safe and Reader Mode settings help reduce eye strain experienced by doctors and nurses working long shifts.

LG 8MP Surgical Monitor

The 27-inch LG 8MP Surgical Monitor was developed for a wide range of uses in the operating theater. In particular, surgeons who favor minimally invasive surgical techniques will benefit greatly as they make precise observations while viewing LG’s wide and highly accurate monitor. The unparalleled clarity of LG’s 8MP UHD panel helps doctors perform technically complex procedures and the monitor’s IPS technology enables multiple medical professionals to view the monitor from different angles with minimal color shift. Boasting brightness levels of up to 800 nits, LG’s surgical monitor is ideally suited for bright operating rooms. This monitor covers over 99 percent of the sRGB color space with additional space dedicated to the deep red spectrum, enabling doctors to more easily distinguish different types of tissue and blood vessels.

LG Digital X-Ray Detector for Radiography

In today’s hospitals, medical technology that is portable, lightweight and durable is key to providing outstanding patient care. Previewed at RSNA 2016, the LG Digital X-Ray Detector (DXD) produces high quality radiography images within seconds using its 16-bit image processing capabilities and a pixel pitch range as small as 127 micrometers, producing super-high-resolution images for radiographers and radiologists to quickly and accurately identify health issues. A magnesium and carbon fiber body make the LG DXD well-suited to serve patients in a range of medical settings and the IP41 rating for water and dust resistance helps assure optimal performance even when this DXD comes in contact with powders or liquids.

“LG’s entry into the medical imaging device market represents a bold new step in our strategy to expand LG’s position in the B2B market,” said Brian Kwon, president of LG Home Entertainment Company. “As a worldwide leader in the premium display industry, we are confident that LG technology will make a significant contribution to hospitals and medical facilities as they seek to improve the accuracy, quality and efficiency of their diagnostic procedures.”

The RSNA is an association of more than 54,000 radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists and related scientists, promoting excellence in patient care and healthcare delivery through education, research and technological innovation (RSNA.org). LG’s new medical imaging devices are being demonstrated for the first time at RSNA 2016, which runs through Dec. 2. The clinical and surgical monitors will roll out in key markets soon thereafter. The LG DXD will be available in 2017.

THREE REASONS WHY AUDIOPHILES CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF LG V20

The LG V20 is the smartphone for audiophiles that raises the bar on smartphone audio. It is the world’s first smartphone to come with a Hi-Fi Quad DAC by ESS Technology — designed for professional-grade audio devices — promising superior sound quality and low noise. Additional engineering polish has been added by B&O PLAY to deliver near-perfect sound. But as a digital storytelling device, the V20 isn’t just about listening to sound — it’s about recording sounds, even creating your own music.

Here are three reasons audiophiles can’t seem to get enough of the LG V20…

Two side-by-side LG V20 smartphones displaying the HD Audio Recorder’s Studio Mode

1. Studio Mode in HD Audio Recorder

As one of V20’s most distinctive features, Studio Mode in the HD Audio Recorder supports two-track recording — which means you can record your voice on top of a music file, such as instrumental background. The result? Studio-quality content at 24-bit, 192 kHz for auditions or for your personal collection. The V20 makes use of three in-built, high AOP (Acoustic Overload Point) microphones to record voice clearly, far surpassing the audio-recording functions on other smartphones.

2. Customizeable Mic Controllers

When you first open the HD Audio Recorder, you will be in Normal setting. Look on the Second Screen and you’ll see that it offers other options: Concert and Custom.

The Concert setting lets you handle deafening input of up to 132dB — a considerable upgrade from the 120dB the V10 could manage. This means you can clearly record thunderous sound at concerts, unlike conventional recorders that lack the V20s’ audio-engineering muscle, and so end up with distorted recordings.

Then there is Custom. Tap on Custom, and you will see the three control sliders labeled Gain, Low Cut Filter (LCF), and Limiter (LMT). These sliders look similar to the audio mixing tools used by sound engineers. Don’t be intimidated: They are easy to use. The Gain slider controls mic sensitivity, so you can use Gain to adjust input volume between -20dB and 20dB. The LCF slider cuts the level of low frequencies, such as background noise from air conditioners or ventilators. Choose the appropriate LCF level from three given options: You can turn LCF off, or set it to either 75Hz or 150Hz. And the LMT slider limits the loudness of the sound recording up to the desired level, so even if a car passes blasting its horn, the limiter will prevent the sound from exceeding the set level. Here, you can choose from four options: Turn LMT off, or set LMT to 0dB, -3dB or -6 dB.User adjusting settings on LG V20’s Concert and Custom features

3. Nonstop Hi-Fi Video Recording

Hi-Fi Video recording means you can record immersive, lossless sound using 24-bit, 48 kHz Linear Pulse Code Modulation (LPCM). LPCM is uncompressed audio with impressive sound quality — the same audio format used in professional video camcorders. This means you can record such delicate sounds as water chuckling in a stream or the sound of a bow touching the strings of a violin.

Inevitably, the size of the finished video file will be quite large. Again, no need to worry. The V20’s predecessor automatically stopped recording when a file reached 4GB, but the LG V20 enables you to exceed this limit. The phone will save the file as soon as it hits 4GB, and automatically start recording a new file, nonstop. And that’s not all. In playback mode, the V20 plays your clips in the order they were recorded, without any pause or skip.

Best Television of the Year: LG B6 OLED 4K TV

LG’s B6 OLED 4K TV (model OLEDB6P) produces the most lifelike images of any television available today. Thanks to OLED technology’s unique ability to turn each pixel on or completely off, LG OLED TVs produce perfect blacks and flawlessly render crisp, brilliant colors and rich shadow detail. As a result, images appear more real, with more perceived depth as well as vibrant color. All 2016 LG OLED TVs, including the B6 OLED 4K TV, support both industry-standard HDR formats – HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

“LG’s B6 Series (and the 55-inch model I tested) proved to be yet another heavy-hitter from the company’s 2016 lineup of organic light-emitting diode displays,” said Lee Neikirk, senior staff writer, Reviewed.com.

Best Washer for New Parents: LG TWINWash

The LG TWINWash system allows users to wash two loads of laundry at the same time, utilizing the unique “mini” washing machine as a second washing machine placed in the pedestal beneath the main LG front-load washer. The mini washer is specifically designed to wash small, custom-care laundry loads including special care items such as intimates, delicates and active wear and can hold three to four pounds of laundry in one load. It can be used at the same time as the front-load washer or on its own, making it perfect for families needing to wash a small load of children’s clothes whenever they need. Plus, it’s compatible with LG front-load washers from 2009 onwards.

“You know how front-load washers are often sold with risers, since it’s a pain to bend over to load and unload them?” asked Ben Keough, editor in chief of news and features, Reviewed.com. “Well, LG put a second, smaller, top-load washer inside the riser, so you can do a separate load of delicates while you launder heavier stuff in the main washer. Genius, no?”

One of the strengths of smart devices is the ability to customize them to the needs of specific users. However, customizing a smart device such as a smartphone isn’t as easy or convenient as one might think when the user is visually impaired. LG ANNOUNCES THIRD-QUARTER 2016 FINANCIAL RESULTS

Solid Home Appliance and Home Entertainment Performance Offsets Challenges in Mobiles

A picture of LG Twin Towers in the daytime

SEOUL, Oct. 27, 2016 — LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced third-quarter 2016 sales of KRW 13.2 trillion (USD 11.8 billion) and operating income of KRW 283.2 billion (USD 252.7 million), reflecting strong performance of its Home Appliance & Air Solution business and increased profitability in Home Entertainment, which offset sales declines and operating losses from Mobile Communications.

LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company third-quarter revenue increased 3 percent year-over-year with its strongest performance coming from European and Asian markets. Operating income of KRW 342.8 billion (USD 305.9 million) resulted in a solid operating margin of 8 percent, a 40 percent improvement from the same period last year. Strong performance of air conditioners and premium appliances helped profitability, despite unfavorable currency fluctuations in MEA and Latin American countries.

LG Mobile Communications Company third-quarter revenues were KRW 2.5 trillion (USD 2.3 billion), 23 percent lower than in the same period of 2015. Lower sales of premium devices and expenses related to business structure improvement activities contributed to a quarterly operating loss of KRW 436.4 billion (USD 389.4 million). LG shipped 13.5 million smartphones in the quarter, with North America reporting a 14 percent increase in sales from the second quarter. Priorities for the final quarter of the year will include increasing sales of the new LG V20 smartphone and mass-tier K and X series and finalizing business structural improvements in the mobile division to be better prepared for the challenges ahead.

LG Home Entertainment Company reported the highest operating profit and margin in its history with KRW 381.5 billion (USD 340.4 million) and 9.2 percent, respectively, as sales of premium LG OLED and Ultra HD TVs continued to gain traction in key markets around the world. Due to price erosion driven by intense competition, sales declined by 3.4 percent from last year’s third quarter with revenues of KRW 4.1 trillion (USD 3.7 billion) nearly unchanged from the previous quarter. With the peak holiday selling season ahead, overall demand for TV products is expected to increase although profitability will likely be affected by higher material costs and increased marketing investments.

LG Vehicle Components Company saw a strong increase in third-quarter sales to KRW 674.9 billion (USD 602.2 million), for an increase of 41 percent year-over-year and 6 percent from the previous quarter. The company reported a modest operating loss of KRW 16.2 billion (USD 14.5 million) due primarily to increased R&D investments to support future growth. With more and more electric vehicle projects – led by the GM Bolt – on the horizon, the VC Company expects to see continued growth.

THREE CAMERA FEATURES OF THE LG V20 THAT MAY SURPRISE YOU

Packed with more pro-quality multimedia functions than had ever previously been bundled into a smartphone, LG’s latest flagship, V20, is the ultimate digital storytelling device. In addition to featuring the world’s first Hi-Fi Quad DAC for superb wired sound, the V20 also shines in its visual dexterity which includes Hi-Fi Video Recording, Steady Record 2.0 as well as wide angle lens on both the front and the back of the phone.

But there are some features which are less obvious but just as impressive. Here are just three of the V20’s killer camera features:

1. Focus Peaking

A familiar feature to pro videographers and filmmakers, Focus Peaking makes focusing easier by highlighting areas that are most in focus in a bright color – green in the case of the V20. This allows users to immediately recognize what is in focus and what isn’t, and to view and adjust the focus as they record video footage. To activate Focus Peaking, open the camera app and switch to manual mode for either photo or video and tap on focus MF on the bottom left of the screen. Use the adjustment bar that appears on the right to select where in the image you’d like to focus in order to get a very clear indication of whether your shot is focused exactly where you want it. Focus Peaking is only available in standard-angle mode using the rear-facing lens.

2. Tracking Focus

The V20’s video feature is optimized with the addition of a powerful focusing aid that locks onto an object in motion. This makes the V20 ideal for catching sharp footage of, say, sporting events or a child’s school recital. Activate Tracking Focus in the settings on the bottom left corner of the display. Then tap on the subject to focus on and a light green box will identify and follow the object you selected. Tracking Focus may have difficulty locking on if the subject matter is too small (less than 1/10th the size of the screen), moving too fast or changes its shape or color abruptly.

3. Zoom Slider

This feature allows you to zoom in and out smoothly using one finger on the display instead of two fingers to pinch in and out. The function appears on the left of the screen as soon as you start recording video in EXPERT mode. The more you move the slider up and down, the faster the camera will zoom. On the top right of the screen, you there is a small horizontal bar indicating how far you zoomed in or out in the shot.

SEOUL, Oct. 4, 2016 ― Starting today, LG and Paymentwall will give developers the opportunity to create apps that enable LG webOS Smart TVs in over 200 countries to support more than 140 different payment methods. This partnership will give consumers easier access to paid apps, movies, games and much more through LG’s intuitive webOS Smart TV platform.

LG’S FEATURE-RICH ULTIMATE V20 SMARTPHONE AVAILABLE STARTING THIS WEEK

Earns Strong First Impressions for Breakthrough Video and Audio Capabilities

SEOUL, Sep. 28, 2016 ― LG Electronics’ newest smartphone that sets a new baseline for multimedia capabilities in smartphones, will become available to eagerly-awaiting customers starting this week. The LG V20 will make its public debut in LG’s home market of South Korea followed by other key countries in North America, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East over the course of the next several weeks.

Since its public unveiling earlier this month, the V20 has collected a strong portfolio of positive reactions from industry insiders who appreciated the smartphone’s design and feature-rich specifications. The V20 is designed for users who want to create professional-looking content and differentiates itself from competing devices with its professional-grade visual and audio features.

When it comes to video recording, this smartphone’s Steady Record 2.0 neutralizes shaky images using both electronics image stabilization (EIS) built into Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 820 processor in addition to digital image stabilization (DIS) in post-processing. And because high quality video wouldn’t be high quality without audio to match, the V20 captures audio using 24-bit/48 kHz Linear Pulse Code Modulation (LPCM), the same format used in professional video equipment.

And the V20 not only records Hi-Fi audio but also supports optimal playback with Hi-Fi Quad DAC to minimize distortion and noise by up to 50 percent, a first for a smartphone. Its HD Audio Recorder gives users the power to create studio-quality recordings using three high Acoustic Overload Point (AOP) microphones capture sound with a wider dynamic frequency range. In designing the V20’s audio features, LG collaborated once again with renowned European audio brand B&O PLAY, the company within Bang & Olufsen that develops innovative portable audio products

Still images aren’t neglected by the LG V20. Armed with front-and rear cameras, the V20 can take wide-angle photographs with rear-facing135-degree and front-facing 120-degree lens. What’s more, Hybrid Auto Focus delivers optimal picture sharpness while Auto Shot simplifies selfies with a face detection feature that triggers the shutter.

The V20 is the world’s first smartphone to offer Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and it is also the first to include Google’s In Apps search feature. The V20 blends chic style with high durability through the generous use of lightweight and strong AL6013 aluminum alloy while the top and bottom contact points are reinforced with Silicone Polycarbonate (Si-PC) for compliance with the United States military’s MIL-STD 810G Transit Drop Test for durability.

And to make the V20 a more personal device, the smartphone also offers a unique feature called Signature Wallpaper. Signature Wallpaper recognizes the first character of the text entered on the V20’s Second Screen and offers a collection of wallpaper designs that display the initial letter, number or symbol as the phone’s lock screen wallpaper (view video at https://youtu.be/n9ew9zTQl3E).

“Today’s users aren’t just consuming and sharing content, they’re savvy enough to create it as well,” said Juno Cho, President of LG Electronics and the Mobile Communications Company. “The V series originated from this insight that we needed to design a device that could not only keep up with this segment of the audience but be able to anticipate their needs and stay a few steps ahead of them. I’m proud to say that the V20 meets these expectations on all fronts.”

Price and date of availability will be announced locally in each target market.
