THREE CAMERA FEATURES OF THE LG V20 THAT MAY SURPRISE YOU

Packed with more pro-quality multimedia functions than had ever previously been bundled into a smartphone, LG’s latest flagship, V20, is the ultimate digital storytelling device. In addition to featuring the world’s first Hi-Fi Quad DAC for superb wired sound, the V20 also shines in its visual dexterity which includes Hi-Fi Video Recording, Steady Record 2.0 as well as wide angle lens on both the front and the back of the phone.

But there are some features which are less obvious but just as impressive. Here are just three of the V20’s killer camera features:

1. Focus Peaking

A familiar feature to pro videographers and filmmakers, Focus Peaking makes focusing easier by highlighting areas that are most in focus in a bright color – green in the case of the V20. This allows users to immediately recognize what is in focus and what isn’t, and to view and adjust the focus as they record video footage. To activate Focus Peaking, open the camera app and switch to manual mode for either photo or video and tap on focus MF on the bottom left of the screen. Use the adjustment bar that appears on the right to select where in the image you’d like to focus in order to get a very clear indication of whether your shot is focused exactly where you want it. Focus Peaking is only available in standard-angle mode using the rear-facing lens.

2. Tracking Focus

The V20’s video feature is optimized with the addition of a powerful focusing aid that locks onto an object in motion. This makes the V20 ideal for catching sharp footage of, say, sporting events or a child’s school recital. Activate Tracking Focus in the settings on the bottom left corner of the display. Then tap on the subject to focus on and a light green box will identify and follow the object you selected. Tracking Focus may have difficulty locking on if the subject matter is too small (less than 1/10th the size of the screen), moving too fast or changes its shape or color abruptly.

3. Zoom Slider

This feature allows you to zoom in and out smoothly using one finger on the display instead of two fingers to pinch in and out. The function appears on the left of the screen as soon as you start recording video in EXPERT mode. The more you move the slider up and down, the faster the camera will zoom. On the top right of the screen, you there is a small horizontal bar indicating how far you zoomed in or out in the shot.

LG’S FEATURE-RICH ULTIMATE V20 SMARTPHONE AVAILABLE STARTING THIS WEEK

Earns Strong First Impressions for Breakthrough Video and Audio Capabilities

The front and rear view of the V20 in Titan, Silver and Pink

SEOUL, Sep. 28, 2016 ― LG Electronics’ newest smartphone that sets a new baseline for multimedia capabilities in smartphones, will become available to eagerly-awaiting customers starting this week. The LG V20 will make its public debut in LG’s home market of South Korea followed by other key countries in North America, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East over the course of the next several weeks.

Since its public unveiling earlier this month, the V20 has collected a strong portfolio of positive reactions from industry insiders who appreciated the smartphone’s design and feature-rich specifications. The V20 is designed for users who want to create professional-looking content and differentiates itself from competing devices with its professional-grade visual and audio features.

When it comes to video recording, this smartphone’s Steady Record 2.0 neutralizes shaky images using both electronics image stabilization (EIS) built into Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 820 processor in addition to digital image stabilization (DIS) in post-processing. And because high quality video wouldn’t be high quality without audio to match, the V20 captures audio using 24-bit/48 kHz Linear Pulse Code Modulation (LPCM), the same format used in professional video equipment.

And the V20 not only records Hi-Fi audio but also supports optimal playback with Hi-Fi Quad DAC to minimize distortion and noise by up to 50 percent, a first for a smartphone. Its HD Audio Recorder gives users the power to create studio-quality recordings using three high Acoustic Overload Point (AOP) microphones capture sound with a wider dynamic frequency range. In designing the V20’s audio features, LG collaborated once again with renowned European audio brand B&O PLAY, the company within Bang & Olufsen that develops innovative portable audio products

Still images aren’t neglected by the LG V20. Armed with front-and rear cameras, the V20 can take wide-angle photographs with rear-facing135-degree and front-facing 120-degree lens. What’s more, Hybrid Auto Focus delivers optimal picture sharpness while Auto Shot simplifies selfies with a face detection feature that triggers the shutter.

The V20 is the world’s first smartphone to offer Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and it is also the first to include Google’s In Apps search feature. The V20 blends chic style with high durability through the generous use of lightweight and strong AL6013 aluminum alloy while the top and bottom contact points are reinforced with Silicone Polycarbonate (Si-PC) for compliance with the United States military’s MIL-STD 810G Transit Drop Test for durability.

And to make the V20 a more personal device, the smartphone also offers a unique feature called Signature Wallpaper. Signature Wallpaper recognizes the first character of the text entered on the V20’s Second Screen and offers a collection of wallpaper designs that display the initial letter, number or symbol as the phone’s lock screen wallpaper (view video at https://youtu.be/n9ew9zTQl3E).

“Today’s users aren’t just consuming and sharing content, they’re savvy enough to create it as well,” said Juno Cho, President of LG Electronics and the Mobile Communications Company. “The V series originated from this insight that we needed to design a device that could not only keep up with this segment of the audience but be able to anticipate their needs and stay a few steps ahead of them. I’m proud to say that the V20 meets these expectations on all fronts.”

Price and date of availability will be announced locally in each target market.

Standing by the essence of each product, LG SIGNATURE has been committed to making life better for consumers offering the highest performance, minimal design, and innovative usability, aiming to embark on a global campaign and focus primarily on how it stands out from other brands.

LG SIGNATURE product lineup under ‘The Art of Essence’ brand slogan

The following four cities: New York, London, Paris and Stuttgart are without doubt global centers of creativity. These fascinating cities are home to sophisticated people who crave the best in fashion, design, architecture, food, culture, and of course technology.

As part of the campaign, LG will unveil a new creative spot that compares the artistic qualities of LG SIGNATURE products with great works of architecture in the aforementioned cities. Under the unifying theme of ‘All Great Things are Alike. They are Built on the Essence,’ LG’s campaign brings together the idea that the best designed consumer electronics and appliances have many similarities with beautiful architectures.

“LG SIGNATURE IN THE CITY”

The founder of architecture and legendary designer, Hugo Alvar Henrik Aalto once said that “beauty is the harmony of purpose and form.” This impressive copy tells us to what extent architecture can be functional and beautiful by pursuing the art of essence.

The campaign captures the audience’s attention by boldly featuring consumer electronics and appliances in front of city landmarks. This composition creates a dramatic atmosphere, yet maximizes the aesthetic beauty of the products. The black and white image and melodious sound add classiness to the ultra-premium LG SIGNATURE brand.

LG SIGNATURE Refrigerator in Paris

‘Grande Arche’

The Grande Arche is symbolic of Paris, both in name and reality. As one of Paris’s most recent contributions to the city’s collection of monumental architecture, the Grande Arche was erected in 1989 to commemorate the French Revolution’s bicentennial anniversary. It proclaims the importance of France’s financial capital La Défense.

In the prolongation of the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel and the Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile, the Grande Arche completes the line of monuments that forms Pasris’s Axe historique.

Nicknamed an ‘open window to the world,’ the Grande Arche shares similarities with the translucent door panels of LG SIGNATURE refrigerator’s InstaView Door-in-Door™ SIGNATURE refrigerator. While the Grande Arche demonstrates the essence of Paris, including its history and time, the LG SIGNATURE refrigerator keeps freshness (which is the essence & purpose of a refrigerator) of every day foods at eye level.

LG TAKES THE MULTIMEDIA MOBILE EXPERIENCE TO THE NEXT LEVEL WITH V20

Enhanced Features Include Steady Record 2.0, Front and Rear
Wide Angle Cameras, Hi-Fi Quad DAC, Android Nougat OS

The front and rear view of the LG V20 in Titan

SEOUL, Sept. 7, 2016 — LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled the V20, the latest in its V series of smartphones, delivering the highest multimedia capabilities available in a mobile device. The V20 boasts new features including Steady Record 2.0, Hi-Fi Quad DAC, HD Audio Recorder and front and rear wide-angle lens cameras to deliver best-in-class performance. It is also the world’s first smartphone to come preloaded with Android 7.0 Nougat OS and the new Google In Apps phone search function.

The LG V series is a premium flagship smartphone line designed to provide users with the best video and audio experience. LG looked at the customers of the V10 and examined what they wanted and needed and determined that the V20 should be developed with “storytellers” in mind – for anyone who has something to say, anyone who has an experience to share.

Delivering Share-worthy, Crisp, Clear Videos

Steady Record 2.0

The LG V20, powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 820 processor with X12 LTE, introduces Steady Record 2.0, leveraging Qualcomm Technologies’ electronic image stabilization (EIS) 3.0 to record sharper video footage while neutralizing shaky images. The gyro-based EIS improves sync accuracy between the image and the gyro by reducing sync latency to only 50 microseconds. EIS is complemented by digital image stabilization (DIS) which further improves video quality in post-processing by adjusting objects across frames and minimizing distortion caused by rolling shutter for smoother action.

Hi-Fi Video Recording

LG V20 owners can record Hi-Fi videos and manually control the settings for perfect audio quality using options such as Low Cut Filter (LCF) that removes unwanted background noise and Limiter (LMT) that sets recording distance. The LCF reduces background noise while the LMT zeroes in on voices the user wants to record. The V20 also captures audio using 24-bit / 48 kHz Linear Pulse Code Modulation (LPCM), the same format used in professional video equipment.

The Purest Audio Experience

Hi-Fi Quad DAC

The V20 is the world’s first smartphone to feature a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, powered by ESS Technology, designers of high-performance audio products. Powered by ESS SABRE ES9218, the Quad DAC in the V20 delivers clearer sound by minimizing distortion and ambient noise by up to 50 percent. With 75-stage fine volume and L/R balance controls as well as support for lossless music formats including FLAC, DSD, AIFF and ALAC, the V20 delivers high-quality sound to any pair of earphones.

HD Audio Recorder

The HD Audio Recorder represents the next level of sound recording. This feature lets users capture studio quality audio with a wider dynamic frequency range using three high AOP microphones to record incredible sound that surpass audio recordings on conventional smartphones. With Studio Mode, manually control sound with easy-to-use keys similar to ones found in video cameras and use Music Recorded to create high quality audio suitable for auditions by recording singing voices over existing music.

In an effort to further enhance audio functions and design, LG continues its collaboration with B&O PLAY. The result in the LG V20 is a natural, balanced sound, reflecting B&O PLAY’s acoustic engineering philosophy.1

Capture It All and More

Front/Rear Wide Angle Lens

The wide angle capabilities of the front and rear cameras capture photos with an inclusive background, meaning users get more in the frame and leave nothing out. The 5MP front camera with a 120-degree lens expands the selfie experience to take bigger pictures with even more friends. The 8MP rear camera with its 135-degree lens is perfect for taking pictures in front of a gorgeous vista or inside a gigantic stadium. The large aperture standard angle lens captures sharp images at a maximum of 16MP with its 75-degree lens.

Auto Shot

The Auto Shot Function on the front camera produces perfect selfies with its face detection feature, which triggers the shot when the subject is ready and smiling. There is no need to press the shutter button, which usually increases camera shake and the likelihood of a blurred shot.

Hybrid Auto Focus

The V20’s Hybrid Auto Focus (HAF) ensures a sharp picture every time. A fast and stable auto focus is delivered in any environment by integrating three AF mechanisms – Laser Detection AF, Phase Detection AF and Contrast AF – for both videos and photos. The V20 determines if LDAF or PDAF is best for a particular shot and then refines the focus with Contrast AF. Users can take full advantage of the V20 when captufiring sharp images of friends or family in action, in any lighting conditions.

Gives You More of What You Love

Second Screen

The popular Second Screen feature that was first introduced on the V10 has improved in visibility. With double the brightness and 50 percent larger font size compared to the V10, the smaller display located above the main display allows users to easily view notifications and alerts in outdoor situations at a glance.

Now with the Expandable Notifications feature, users can tap a button on the Second Screen to enlarge notifications in order to check long messages at a glance and quickly send a reply or share information.

LG UX 5.0+

The LG V20 comes with the mobile user interface LG UX 5.0+ to make it easier to use the multimedia functions tailored to customer needs. The LG UX 5.0+ is an upgraded version of the LG UX 5.0 first introduced on the LG G5. It is also the world’s first smartphone interface to run on Android 7.0 Nougat.

The LG V20 also features Multi-window to display two apps at once in a split screen allowing users to drag text, images, and files from one app to another. The combination of these advancements together with the 5.7-inch main IPS Quantum Display offers the best in multitasking capabilities.2

In Apps

The LG V20 is the world’s first phone to showcase Google’s In Apps. The new search mode featured in the Google app, helps users find content not only from built-in apps including contacts, emails, text messages and photos, but also from user-installed apps. It also enables users to discover recently accessed apps, people to get in touch with, messages to read or activity across apps without having to type a query.

Premium Design in a Durable Body

Premium Materials

To achieve both a sophisticated look and solid durability, LG uses lightweight aluminum, together with a new silicon-based material. AL6013 metal, found in aircraft, sailboats and mountain bikes, was selected to cover the back of the phone due to its sturdy but light properties. If dropped, the top and bottom of the phone are protected from damage by Silicone Polycarbonate (Si-PC). This innovative material, found in helmets, reduces shocks by more than 20 percent compared to conventional materials.

Durability

The LG V20 has also passed the MIL-STD 810G Transit Drop Test for durability conducted by an independent laboratory that conforms to U.S. military standards. The test determined that the V20 could withstand shocks and still function when dropped repeatedly from a height of four feet and landing in various positions, including the front, back, sides and corners.

“The LG V20 is designed to offer customers a more dynamic experience by building on the most popular video and audio features of the V series,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics and Mobile Communications Company. “With the LG V20, we are giving our customers more of everything they love and less of anything they don’t need to set a new standard for premium smartphones.”

The LG V20 will be available in Korea starting this month followed by other regions. Information regarding other markets and launch dates will be announced locally in the weeks to come.

WORLD’S LARGEST OLED TUNNEL WELCOMES VISITORS TO IFA WITH 450 MILLION BRILLIANT PIXELS

15 Meters of OLED Create Stunningly Immersive
Viewing Experience with Perfect Black and Vibrant Colors

A wide-angle shot of the LG OLED Tunnel at IFA 2016.

BERLIN, Sep. 1, 2016 — LG Electronics (LG) is welcoming visitors to its IFA 2016 exhibition booth with an awe-inspiring and immersive OLED Tunnel measuring a record-breaking 5m tall, 7.4m wide and 15m in length. A total of 216 separate 55-inch curved OLED Signage displays were assembled to create the unique structure comprising 447,897,600 – nearly half a billion – pixels to display a collection of breathtaking scenes including Iceland’s Aurora Borealis, underwater ecosystems and deep space footage.

A video titled “From Black to Black” was produced by LG to include footage that accentuate the lifelike colors and the ability to recreate the miniscule details of life which LG’s OLED technology delivers. The footage includes the black ocean with effervescent jellyfish and the gentle movement of whales, as well as scenes from deep black space and the brilliant northern lights on a black sky. LG captured footage of Iceland’s Northern Lights using 14 separate 8K cameras to record every detail and movement as accurately as possible.

Other video clips such as underwater scenes and shots taken from space will create a fully immersive environment for visitors, making them feel as if they are swimming in the ocean or floating in the Milky Way. At IFA, attendees will have the chance to see how closely the advanced technology of OLED can recreate the great outdoors inside an exhibition hall.

The impressive scale of the display tunnel is made possible by OLED’s ultra-thin, highly flexible lightweight panels. OLED displays can be custom bent to concave or convex formations without any picture quality distortion, allowing for spectacular digital installations such as immersive tunnel-like environments. Each OLED pixel can switch itself on and off, eliminating the need for backlighting. OLED TVs have the ability to render true black and infinite contrast ratio that delivers vibrant, eye-popping color and wide viewing angles.

LG has a history behind big show attractions, with LG earning a Red Dot Award in Spatial Communication for its dome-shaped OLED installations at CES 2016 (view video at https://youtu.be/AdnadJK2DTU).

“It was 50 years ago this year that LG produced its first television and our OLED Tunnel at IFA 2016 is designed to celebrate this milestone with another milestone – the coming of OLED TV,” said Brian Kwon, president of LG Home Entertainment Company. “We’re offering visitors to our booth at IFA the opportunity to experience OLED’s revolutionary image rendering capability complete with perfect black, infinite contrast ratio and realistic colors from any angle.”

Visitors to IFA are encouraged to stop by LG’s booth in Hall 18 of Messe Berlin from September 2-7 to personally experience LG’s OLED TVs on display. To enjoy the experience offered by LG OLED Tunnel, please visit https://youtu.be/xii0-VJ_mOg.

LG EXPANDS CENTUM SYSTEM LINEUP FOR EUROPE

Wider Selection of Centum System™ Appliances Put
Spotlight on Durability and Energy Efficiency at IFA 2016

LG Centum System™ front-load washing machine in white color

SEOUL, Aug. 31, 2016 — LG Electronics’ über-efficient Centum System™ equipped washing machine developed for European consumers will be joined by a new Centum System refrigerator to be on display at IFA 2016 in Berlin. With enhanced core technologies – the Inverter Direct Drive Motor in the washing machine and Inverter Linear Compressor in the refrigerator – reliability and energy efficiency of the appliances are measurably increased.

LG’s Centum System washing machine offers benefits designed to meet the needs of European consumers. The increased efficiency reduces energy consumption to 60 percent below the threshold required for A+++ certification, the highest energy efficiency rating in Europe. The washing machine uses an advanced damping system similar to those found in automobiles to cut down noise to just 67dB. LG is backing up its core technologies with the industry’s first 20-year warranty.

The inclusion of TurboWash™ allows for the completion of an entire wash cycle in just 49 minutes. Efficiency also extends to water and energy consumption, with TurboWash using 17 percent less of each per cycle compared to models without the feature.1 LG will also showcase its lineup of dryer and washer-dryer equipped with Centum System technology at IFA.

LG will also introduce an array of refrigerators implementing the outstanding Centum System. The latest bottom-freezer refrigerator unveiled at IFA boasts an impressive energy efficiency rating of A+++ -30% while the side-by-side model scored A+++ -10 % by employing the innovative Inverter Linear Compressor. In addition, The German scientific and technical association Verband der Elektrotechnik Elektronik Informationstechnik (VDE) certified the 20-year lifespan of the Inverter Linear compressor.2

The world’s tallest house of cards was built on top of a running Centum System washing machine to highlight its low vibration with the online video documenting the record achieving process receiving over 100 million views across all key social media sites (https://youtu.be/97SVzMNOjlY). LG also set a new record by using 18,072 bulbs to create the world’s largest lightbulb image, illuminating it using the energy saved by a single Centum System refrigerator in one year (http://youtu.be/P-dAC06a3nU).3

“The Guinness World Records™ are acknowledgments we wear with pride because they help convey the message that our Centum System technology is second to none,” said Jo Seong-jin, president of LG Electronics and Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “As LG continues to expand the reach of our appliances in the European market, IFA will play an important role in that strategy.”

Attendees of IFA 2016 are encouraged to stop by the LG booth in Hall 18 of Messe Berlin to see LG’s innovative home appliances up close.

NEWEST LG OLED TVS COMPATIBLE WITH FULL RANGE OF HDR TECHNOLOGIES

LG Shows How HDR Brings Vivid Images to Life by
Demonstrating Compatibility with Three Different HDR Formats

A front view of LG OLED TV with HDR.

SEOUL, Aug. 26, 2016 — LG Electronics (LG) has partnered with a number of high-profile broadcasters and content providers to demonstrate the power of HDR technology at the company’s IFA 2016 stand in Berlin. The demonstration is designed to highlight LG’s leadership in the global TV industry, offering visitors the chance to experience HDR content on LG OLED TVs firsthand. Visitors to LG’s booth will be able to experience content remastered using both Dolby VisionTM HDR and HDR10 as well as Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) technology.

Already, LG OLED TVs support both the open-format HDR10 and Dolby VisionTM, the preferred format for filmmakers and content providers. All the major studios have committed to support Dolby VisionTM for cinematic movies and many content providers have made it their default format for streaming services.

LG and its partners will hold several HDR demonstrations at IFA, one which will involve the transmission of HLG content utilizing ASTRA’s satellite network and the British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) terrestrial broadcasting system. HLG is a new HDR standard jointly developed by the BBC and NHK of Japan that utilizes a single distribution bitstream which can be decoded by both dedicated HDR receivers and legacy non-HDR receivers. This new standard is designed to enable broadcasters to send HDR transmissions over cable and to provide streaming live content, making HLG an excellent choice for broadcast HDR services.

Also at IFA 2016, LG will be the first to publicly demonstrate HDR technology combining High Frame Rate (HFR) with HLG content. LG will team up with the BBC and the European Broadcasting Union to demonstrate HFR HLG content that is compatible with both MPEG DASH (IP streaming) and DVB-T2 transmission systems. HFR is a new technology that enhances the quality of Ultra HD images by delivering ing up to 100/120 frames per second. This enhanced frame rate translates to smoother, more realistic onscreen movements.

“With unprecedented technological flexibility, LG OLED TVs offer the most advanced HDR capabilities on the market today as well as into the future,” said Brian Kwon, president of LG Home Entertainment Company. “Future HDR technology will allow a wider range of consumers to experience rich HDR content regardless of the format employed.”

Attendees of IFA 2016 are encouraged to visit LG’s booth in Hall 18 of Messe Berlin from September 2-7 to experience HDR content on OLED TVs for themselves.
