LG ANNOUNCES THIRD-QUARTER 2015 FINANCIAL RESULTS

Home Appliance & Air Solution Company Reports Solid Quarter,
Offsetting Challenging Market Conditions for TVs, Smartphones

A picture of LG Twin Towers in the daytime

SEOUL, Oct. 29, 2015 — LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced strong operating profit margin in its Home Appliance & Air Solution Company, contributing to a modest overall net profit of KRW 124.8 billion (USD 106.76 million) for the third quarter of 2015. Amid increasing competitive pressure in both the TV and smartphone sectors, LG’s third-quarter sales rose 0.7 percent from the second quarter to KRW 14.03 trillion (USD 12 billion), while operating profit increased from the previous quarter to KRW 294 billion (USD 251.5 million).

The LG Home Entertainment Company reported third-quarter revenue of KRW 4.29 trillion (USD 3.67 billion), an increase of 9 percent quarter-on-quarter due to solid sales in UHD and OLED TVs in markets such as North America, Latin America and Commonwealth of Independent States. Profitability also increased from the previous quarter as a result of improvements in product mix and cost structure. With continuing soft global TV demand, LG plans to bolster its profitability by increasing its marketing focus in the premium segment while continuing to improve its cost competitiveness.

The LG Mobile Communications Company reported global shipments of 14.9 million smartphones, a 6 percent increase from the previous quarter. Despite a 12 percent sales increase in North America, overall revenues of KRW 3.38 trillion (USD 2.89 billion) were 7 percent lower quarter-on-quarter and decreased 21 percent year-on-year due in large part to weaker demand for high-end devices in Korea. LG expects the launch of the advanced V10 and price-competitive Nexus 5X smartphones in the fourth quarter to improve the overall product mix.

The LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company reported a strong quarter with a 4 percent increase in sales to KRW 4.15 trillion (USD 3.55 billion) and an operating profit of KRW 245.6 billion (USD 210.1 million), an increase of 420 percent from the same period the year before. Operating profit for refrigerators improved as a result of strong sales of premium models in North America and Korea while the unique new Twin Wash system contributed toward improved profit margins in the washing machine business. Fourth-quarter results are likely to be impacted by the effects of unfavorable exchange rate and seasonality.

The LG Vehicle Components Company reported a 6 percent increase in sales quarter-on-quarter to KRW 478.6 billion (USD 409.41 million) primarily as a result of its growing infotainment business. Revenues from vehicle engineering were flat due to weaker demand in emerging markets such as Russia and Malaysia. Investments in R&D related to electric car and automotive electronic components contributed to a modest operating loss. Going forward, LG expects recent issues related to diesel automobiles to positively affect the electric vehicle and automotive electronic components markets.

2015 3Q Exchange Rates Explained

LG Electronics’ unaudited quarterly earnings results are based on IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) for the three-month period ending September 30, 2015. Amounts in Korean won (KRW) are translated into U.S. dollars (USD) at the average rate of the three-month period of the corresponding quarter — KRW 1,169 per USD (2015 3Q).

Chevrolet Bolt EV to be Developed Through Strategic Partnership Between GM and LG

Engineers from GM and LG Electronics Partner on Critical Components

The Chevrolet Bolt EV (electric vehicle) with a city skyline backdrop.

SEOUL, Oct. 21, 2015 — General Motors set aside traditional vehicle development in selecting LG Electronics as its partner in developing the next generation Chevrolet Bolt EV (electric vehicle), which can travel more than 200 miles on a single electric charge.

Offering consumers the first long-range, affordable EV required an unprecedented supplier relationship combining expertise in infotainment, battery systems and component development with GM’s proven in-house capabilities in electric motor design, battery control, system validation and vehicle body/system integration.

Following joint planning and research, GM and LG brought the Chevrolet Bolt EV to reality. The Bolt EV concept was shown at the North American International Auto Show in January this year. Chevrolet confirmed in February that the Bolt EV would go into production at GM’s Orion Township, Michigan (USA) assembly plant in late 2016.

GM & LG Blend Expertise

Engineers considered different vehicle architectures, electric driving ranges and performance options for the Bolt EV before deciding the vehicle must be affordable and deliver 200-plus miles of all-electric driving with spirited performance. LG supplied an array of new components and systems for the Chevrolet Bolt EV, including:

  • Electric Drive Motor (built from GM design)
  • Power Invertor Module (converts DC power to AC for the drive unit)
  • On Board Charger
  • Electric Climate Control System Compressor
  • Battery Cells and Pack
  • High Power Distribution Module (manages the flow of high voltage to various components)
  • Battery Heater
  • Accessory Power Module (maintains low-voltage power delivery to accessories)
  • Power Line Communication Module (manages communication between vehicle and a DC charging station)
  • Instrument Cluster
  • Infotainment System

“Chevrolet needs to be disruptive in order to maintain our leadership position in electrification,” said Mark Reuss, GM executive vice president of Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain. “By taking the best of our in-house engineering prowess established with the Chevrolet Volt and Spark EV, and combining the experience of the LG Group, we’re able to transform the concept of the industry’s first long range, affordable EV into reality.”

LG Electronics’ Vehicle Components led a team of LG companies including LG Chem, LG Innotek and LG Display to help develop the Bolt EV. LG Electronics has invested more than $250 million in an engineering and manufacturing facility in Incheon, Korea, to support the component development and manufacturing for Bolt EV components.

“Being selected as GM’s EV technology partner positions LG as a key player in next-generation vehicular technologies,” said Lee Woo-jong, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Vehicle Components Company. “The opportunity to work with GM on such game-changing technology is indicative of exactly the type of contributions that traditional tech companies can make in the automotive space.”

GM-LG Longstanding Relationship

GM’s relationship with LG began in 2007 when LG Electronics was tasked with supplying the vehicle communications module for OnStar, GM’s exclusive telematics system. Another LG-owned company, LG Chem, and GM have a long-standing relationship: the company was chosen as the sole supplier of battery cells for the first-generation Chevrolet Volt, which launched in 2010.

After delivering exceptional quality for the more than 23 million cells with less than two problems per million cells produced for the first-generation Chevrolet Volt, GM turned to the LG Corp. to bring forward new expertise from LG Electronics and other LG companies. The agreements encompassed supplying components for the Bolt EV and marked the first time that GM integrated a full EV component supplier so early in vehicle development.

LG UNVEILS V10, A SMARTPHONE DESIGNED WITH CREATIVITY IN MIND

LG’s Latest Phone Features Many Firsts:
Second Screen, Dual Front Cameras, Manual Video Mode

The front view of the LG V10 in Space Black, Luxe White, Modern Beige, Ocean Blue and Opal Blue

SEOUL, Oct. 1, 2015 — LG Electronics (LG) today took the wraps off its newest smartphone featuring multimedia capabilities never before seen in a mobile device. The first of its V Series phones, the LG V10 was designed to provide a rich multimedia experience — both consumption and creation — for today’s social network savvy consumers. Distinctive new features such as a Second Screen, Dual Front Cameras and Manual Video Mode differentiate the LG V10 from the competition. All this comes wrapped in a design that utilizes high-grade stainless steel and a durable silicone skin to make the V10 one of the rare smartphones to pass drop tests for shock conducted by an independent third party.

Second Screen

Always pushing the boundaries of smartphone innovation, LG is introducing a Second Screen as an inset display above the main 5.7-inch QHD IPS Quantum Display on the V10. Working independently, the Second Screen can be set up as an “always on” display to enhance the V10’s productiveness all without impacting battery life. Set the Second Screen to display the weather, time, date and battery icon when the main display is off. With the main display on, the Second Screen can be set to convert to a dedicated launching area for shortcuts or your favorite apps. What’s more, when you’re enjoying a movie or game on the V10, the Second Screen will notify you discreetly without blocking your view when a call or text comes in. Ignoring the notification won’t distract you from your enjoyment or you can pause whatever you’re doing to respond.

Dual Front Cameras and Multi-view Recording

Wide angle images usually require a large, heavy lens which can distort the corners of photographs. The LG V10 features 5MP Dual Front Cameras with two separate lenses to capture standard 80 degree selfies or perfect wide angle selfies of 120 degrees, without the need to pan the smartphone which increases the likelihood of camera shake. For the wide angle shot, the V10 employs a sophisticated software algorithm to combine images from the two separate lenses which are just far enough apart to provide two different points of view. The ability to take group selfies without a selfie-stick has never been easier. Multi-view Recording can capture different angles utilizing all three cameras on the V10. Select and insert the version that looks best in your masterpiece.

Video and Audio Capture Capabilities

As the LG G4 did with photography, the LG V10 offers users the ultimate in video capturing, editing and sharing. The V10 is the first smartphone to offer manual mode for video. First introduced for still photographs on the G4, the technology has been enhanced to handle video recordings as well. With Manual Video Mode, budding directors can easily create professional-quality videos by adjusting options such as shutter speed, frame rate, ISO, white balance and focus while recording. Videos can be recorded in three resolutions — HD, FHD or UHD — and two aspect ratios — 16:9 standard or 21:9 cinematic.

In addition to its impressive professional-level video and audio capabilities, the LG V10 offers these additional features that video content look and sound their best:

  • Steady Record: utilizes electronic image stabilization (EIS) optimized for recording video to neutralize shake, helping to capture sharper video footage when in motion
  • Snap Video: create one video by combining many shorter videos
  • 15 Sec. Auto Edit: create a short video highlight clip by automatically eliminating blurred frames and static scenes
  • Quick Video Editor: easily trim or change the frame rate and add after-effects, such as colors and background music
  • Quick Share: when finished recording, a pop-up appears on the display showing options of popular social networks to make video sharing even easier and faster
  • Audio Monitor: adjust the sensitivity of the three microphones during video recording and directly monitor and control audio input, including directional recording capability to highlight sound from one particular location
  • Wind Noise Filter: eliminate external wind noise for high-quality sound when shooting video outdoors

The V10 carries on LG’s tradition of providing alternative storage options with a microSD card slot. Compatible with cards of up to 2TB, V10 owners can shoot as much 4K video as they want. And with the 3,000mAh removable battery, you can always be ready with a second or third replacement battery to pop in if you ever run low on power while shooting. And with Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 2.0 technology built-in, it only takes 40 minutes to get a 50 percent charge.

Durability and Design

The LG V10 was designed to be taken places other phones normally wouldn’t feel at home. The resilient Dura Guard frame firmly secures the display to protect the phone from hard bumps and tumbles. The V10’s frame is composed of SAE grade 316L stainless steel, the same tough, hypoallergenic material used to make surgical tools and high-end watches. Because the edges and corners are the most vulnerable areas of a phone, the extra protection provided by the Dura Guard frame ensures maximum durability.

On the back and bottom of the display, resilient but soft Dura Skin offers added protection from direct impacts to the device. Dura Skin is soft to the touch but also is highly resistant to nicks and scratches. What’s more, the back grid pattern was designed specifically to offer a more secure grip, even when you’re on the go. Independent testing and certification firm MET Laboratories tested the LG V10 by dropping it from height of 48 inches repeatedly at different angles and found it to be “MIL-STD-810G Transit Drop Compliant” for shock.

Great Sounding Music and Voice

As an advanced multimedia smartphone, the sound in the V10 has been designed to be best-in-class. The V10 features 32 bit Hi-Fi DAC by ESS Technology, designers of high-performance audio products for professionals. The LG V10 automatically detects connected devices and provides sound control options which can be customized. And the LG V10 is the first commercial device to utilize Qualcomm Technologies TruSignal™ antenna boost technology designed to intelligently optimize signal strength at all times for fewer dropped calls, faster data and better call coverage, no matter how the phone is held.

Access and Security

Along with the popular Knock Code, the LG V10 features a new fingerprint sensor to unlock the smartphone and turn on the display simultaneously. The sensor also works with Android Pay in the United States to make purchases as quick and easy as possible.

“The LG V10 was designed from the ground up primarily as a multimedia smartphone for the sharing ecosystem,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We heard from many customers that until the G4, they weren’t comfortable going on vacation or outings without a separate camera. With the V10, we hope to do for video what the G4 did for photographs.”

The LG V10 will be available in Korea starting this month followed by markets such as the United States, China and key countries in Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. Information regarding additional markets and launch dates will be announced locally in the weeks to come.

NEW PROJECTOR FROM LG CREATES THEATER-LIKE EXPERIENCE IN EVEN THE SMALLEST ROOMS

Short-Throw LG Minibeam UST Projects
100-inch Full HD Picture at Only 38 Centimeters

The LG Minibeam Ultra Short-Throw projector model PF1000U.

SEOUL, Sep. 18, 2015 — This month, LG Electronics (LG) introduces a new projector, Minibeam Ultra Short-Throw (UST), capable of projecting a 100-inch image on a screen or wall from only 38 centimeters away. And at under two kilograms, the projector (model PF1000U) is transportable and easy to set up in any room of the house. Able to display Full HD resolution and brightness of 1000 lumens, the Minibeam UST is also extremely easy to use, a complete package that sets a new standard for personal projector technology.

To project a 100-inch picture, conventional projectors usually need to be positioned three to four meters from the screen or wall. This not only presents a problem for small living rooms, the power cord running from the projector to the outlet is unsightly and a safety hazard. What’s more, conventional projectors create a “no walk zone” in a large part of the living room between the projector and the screen. The LG Minibeam suffers from none of these limitations as a 100-inch display can be projected from a distance of only 38cm from the wall.

The benefits of the LG Minibeam UST don’t stop there. This projector also delivers an incredibly detailed, high quality picture. The picture quality is enhanced by the Triple XD Engine, a chip that is the result of LG’s 50 years of experience in the television industry. Able to display Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080), the projector employs a self-emitting RGB LED illumination system for the most natural shades and hues possible all the while running quietly at only 21dB in Eco Mode.

Although compact, the Minibeam UST is capable of replicating a near cinematic experience. With its Four Corner Keystone function, viewers can easily eliminate distortion even when the projector isn’t perfectly aligned with the screen. The Minibeam UST can also connect via Bluetooth to soundbars, portable speakers and wireless earphones for an immersive audio experience. The projector also comes equipped with a TV tuner as well as USB and HDMI inputs.

“LG’s new Minibeam UST projector delivers a 100-inch Full HD picture in a package that is easy to transport from room to room,” said Lee In-kyu, senior vice president and head of the TV and monitor division at LG’s Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “LG Minibeam UST makes it possible for every home and every room to replicate a real theater-like experience.”

The PF1000U will be released this month in Europe markets, to be followed by countries in North America, Africa and the Middle East in October.

LG INTRODUCES PORTFOLIO OF MUST-HAVE APPLIANCES FOR DREAM KITCHENS

Great Appliances Represent a First Step Toward Simpler, Easier, Healthier Life

LG Studio line-ups, including oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, induction and gas cooktop, and Speed Oven featured in a kitchen.

BERLIN, Sep. 7, 2015 — At IFA 2015, LG Electronics (LG) is showcasing its newest premium kitchen lineup with more consumer-centric functions than ever before. Featured prominently among the lineup will be the LG STUDIO, which has been designed to seamlessly integrate into kitchens for convenience and better performance to enhance the quality of customers’ meals. LG STUDIO offers a full complement of modern kitchen necessities including ovens, refrigerators, dishwashers, induction surfaces and gas cooktops, representing the perfect marriage of functionality and design, perfect for today’s consumers’ smart lifestyles.

LG STUDIO Oven: Better Cooking Without the Mess

The LG STUDIO oven features Easy Clean technology, which includes advanced hydrophilic enamel enabling easy clean-up of food messes. Easy Clean technology eliminates potential food safety risks that could be caused by using harmful oven cleaner solutions. Simply turn on Easy Clean, wait 15 minutes, spray the interior with water and wipe it clean. It couldn’t get any simpler or safer than that.

LG Smart ThinQ™ allows users to download, update and share recipes with friends and relatives via their smartphones, tablets and other smart devices. The LG STUDIO oven is NFC-enabled, which automatically sets the mode, temperature and time for a given recipe after tagging a smart device to the oven. LG STUDIO ovens even self-diagnoses malfunctions to cut down on the time and expense normally required to repair kitchen appliances.

LG STUDIO Refrigerators: Keeping Food Fresher and Longer

LG’s advanced Inverter Linear Compressor has been re-designed to be more compact and to seamlessly integrate into the premium LG STUDIO refrigerator. Inverter Linear Compressor technology enables the LG STUDIO refrigerator to be an industry leader in energy savings, freshness, low noise levels, capacity and durability. The Inverter Linear Compressor also regulates cooling power and reduces internal friction, making the refrigerator incredibly efficient, earning it a European Union efficiency rating of A++. And with the industry-exclusive Total No Frost technology which utilizes the Multi-Air Flow system to evenly spread cool air into every corner of the refrigerator, there’s no icy build-up and food stays fresher longer.

LG STUDIO Dishwasher: Clean Smart

The LG STUDIO dishwasher delivers spotless results and energy savings using TrueSteam™ technology while still delivering A+++ energy efficiency with LG’s unique Inverter Direct Drive. TrueSteam™ discharges high-temperature steam particles directly at food particles to melt them away, leaving dishes immaculately clean. Temperature and pressure are managed by the dishwasher’s built-in steam generator, which has a delicate touch yet is powerful enough to eliminate even tough stains so there’s no need to pre-wash dishes or cups by hand.

LG STUDIO Induction & Gas Cooktop: The Complete Kitchen

The LG STUDIO induction cooktop features Touch Slide Control which allows all functions including heat levels to be adjusted from an intuitive and easy-to-clean ceramic control panel. The gas cooktop features dual front controls, which free up more space for preparing one’s favorite dishes, as well as a flame failure safety device, which gives homeowners peace of mind by preventing gas leaks when the flames go out.

Speed Oven: Professional Cooking Quality at Your Fingertips

The Speed Oven is equipped with a Charcoal Lighting Heater™ which emits a rapid flow of intense heat to reduce cooking time. Compared to conventional built-in ovens, LG’s Speed Oven can prepare a 1.5kg pork roast 74 percent faster, while still delivering crispy-on-the-outside, yet juicy-on-the-inside results due to the Charcoal Lighting Heater’s fast heat dispersion. The Speed Oven’s interface is interactive and features the Auto Menu function which offers a wide range of pre-set modes to help prepare one’s favorite dishes with a minimum of fuss and preparation. And the full stainless design makes it an ideal, premium-looking addition to any kitchen.

“Our kitchen appliance package is ideal for those who relish the culinary arts, take pride in interior décor and of course, love spending time in their kitchens,” said Jo Seong-jin, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance and Air Solutions Company. “The convenience of LG STUDIO’s portfolio becomes most apparent for those who spend much time in their kitchens. At LG, we believe kitchens shouldn’t just be an afterthought.”

LG UNVEILS HOME ENTERTAINMENT STRATEGY AT IFA 2015

LG Focuses on Furthering Innovation in
Global Premium TV Market with OLED TV Leading the Way

The awe-inspiring LG OLED TV ZONE at IFA 2015.

BERLIN, Sep. 6, 2015 — Speaking at a roundtable at IFA 2015 in Berlin, a top official of LG Electronics (LG) revealed the company’s plan to sell five times as many OLED TVs in the second half of 2015 than it did in the first half with the aim of making LG OLED the new standard of TV by the end of the year.

With a goal of selling more than one LG OLED TV per minute, Brian Kwon, executive vice president and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company, cited four overarching marketing directions designed to solidify LG’s leadership role in the home entertainment market: 1) leading the global OLED TV Market with an expanded OLED TV lineup, 2) conducting enhanced marketing campaigns to expand OLED TV’s market penetration, 3) strengthening its dominant position in the smart TV platform business and 4) enhancing profitability in the audio video product segment.

Expanded OLED TV Lineup

With the world’s first high dynamic range (HDR)-enabled 4K OLED TVs, LG will incorporate HDR technology in more of its OLED TV lineup, Kwon said. LG’s 4K OLED TV is expected to attract new customers with its impressive design which measures only 4.8 mm at its slimmest point. With a host of new functions, design features and display formats, LG will provide a wider selection of OLED TVs to suit the tastes of different customers. LG is confident that the announcement of OLED TV products from other manufacturers will accelerate the adoption of OLED TV by more and more consumers and expand this segment led by LG within the TV market.

Enhanced Marketing Campaigns

Kwon explained that the company will invest in a variety of marketing campaigns to increase international sales of its OLED TVs with product introduction tours and OLED displays at major airports in the world, among other initiatives. LG is confident that strong reviews of LG OLED TVs from product testing organizations and media outlets will drive more interest in consumers.  One U.S. publication named LG’s OLED TV as this year’s best TV, and LG’s model 65EG9600 beat top TVs from competitors to be crowned the 2015“King of TV”in a head-to-head shootout run by Value Electronics, a U.S. electronics retailer.

Strengthening the Smart TV Platform Business

LG will continue to expand its popular webOS platform with more smart TV content from partners such as Netflix and YouTube, movies from local content suppliers and a range of new applications, according to Kwon. The company will kick off an HDR content streaming service for webOS 2.0-enabled smart TV users in partnership with Amazon and roll out its free upgrade for webOS 1.0 users which includes enhanced features available in webOS 2.0.

Enhancing Profitability in Commercial Displays and Audio-Video

LG aims to expand its market presence and enhance its profitability in the monitor, digital signage and audio-video business. With an unparalleled digital signage product lineup led by ultra-thin videowall displays with the world’s slimmest bezel-to-bezel design of less than 2 mm, LG intends to secure its reputation as a major provider of premium display solutions, Kwon said. The company will also aggressively push its high-end monitor products such as the 21:9 flat and curved monitors with 4K resolution. LG will expand its Bluetooth audio products with a lineup that adds to the Music Flow curved soundbar and portable speakers unveiled at IFA 2015.

LG TEAMS UP WITH AMAZON TO OFFER STREAMING HDR ON WEBOS SMART TV PLATFORM

2015 LG OLED 4K TVs Will Deliver Highest Quality Content,
Best Viewing Experience Available with HDR Streaming

Apps provided by LG webOS are displayed on an LG Smart TV’s display.

BERLIN, Sep. 3, 2015 — LG Electronics today announced the launch of High Dynamic Range (HDR) streaming on 2015 LG OLED 4K TVs, allowing consumers to enjoy exceptional HDR picture quality streaming directly via the Amazon Video app, available on LG’s webOS Smart TV platform. Amazon Video is the first provider delivering HDR content on LG OLED 4K TVs, offering the highest picture quality and most comfortable HDR viewing experience on the market.

Beginning today, popular and award-winning Amazon Original Series Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle as well as the pilot episode of upcoming comedy series Red Oaks are now available to stream on HDR on LG’s latest OLED 4K Ultra HD TVs, including the just-announced EF9500 Flat OLED 4K TV series, some EG9600 and EG9200 models and the Curved OLED 4K TV series. The EF9500 series comes with full HDR capability built in, allowing consumers to play back HDR content from both streaming content partners and external source devices. LG’s EG9600 series received a firmware update so consumers can stream content from current and future providers.

According to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA®), HDR is a new capability that promises to deliver a more expansive range of darkness, brightness and shadow detail, further enhancing the viewing experience. LG OLED 4K TVs meet the new CEA guidelines for HDR-Compatible Video Displays. LG OLED technology is perfectly suited for HDR content because it delivers the perfect black that only OLED TVs can achieve. By starting from perfect black, OLED is able to produce the required light ranges at lower peak brightness, resulting in an exceptional — and more comfortable — HDR viewing experience.

“By partnering with Amazon to deliver HDR content on LG’s OLED TV, we are confident we can deliver the best viewing experience available on a TV today for HDR content,” said Lee In-kyu, senior vice president and head of the TV and monitor division at LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “The streaming content market has grown enormously in the last few years and our partnership will bring the best in picture quality to more consumers.”

LG’s webOS Smart TV platform is designed to make finding and switching between content options — including broadcast TV, streaming services and external devices — intuitive and fast. webOS features simple switching to let viewers quickly shift to any content of their choice and makes it simple to discover new sources of entertainment from 4K partners 1 such as Amazon Video, Netflix™, YouTube™, DIRECTV and many more Full HD options.2

LG’s 2015 OLED 4K TVs combine the intense detail of 4K Ultra HD and the superior contrast and rich, accurate color that OLED provides, displaying the ultimate in picture quality. For impressive sound, LG’s 2015 OLED 4K TVs feature premium built-in speaker systems designed by harman/kardon® to deliver a completely captivating audio and video experience. LG has also taken its state-of-the-art screen technology and transformed it into a work of art with its Art Slim design philosophy, making OLED a complement to any interior décor as the TVs boast an amazingly slim depth at only a few millimeters and a stylish, frameless design.

Amazon streaming HDR content will be available this month on LG OLED 4K Ultra HD TVs in the USA, UK, Germany and Austria. Visitors to IFA are encouraged to stop by the LG booth from September 4-9 in Hall 18 to see the demonstration of Amazon HDR streaming content for themselves.

LG UNVEILS UBER-CONVENIENT REFRIGERATORS AT IFA 2015

LG’s Industry-Leading Technology Powers Refrigerators That
Deliver Enhanced Performance and Energy Savings

LG double Door-in-Door refrigerator with all the doors opened

SEOUL, Sep. 2, 2015 — At IFA 2015 in Berlin, LG Electronics (LG) is introducing its latest line of advanced refrigerators that have been specifically with European consumers in mind. The company’s energy-efficient refrigerators deliver convenience enhancing features such as the Dual Door-in-Door™ System which keeps food fresh longer and helps the interior stay better organized. The new cutting-edge lineup is designed to meet the needs of European consumers looking to enhances their convenience in the kitchen.

Inverter Linear Compressor Ensures Maximum Energy Savings

LG’s bottom-freezer refrigerators are industry leaders in efficiency, with a Total No Frost energy grade rating of A+++ -20 percent made possible by the refrigerator’s Inverter Linear Compressor. This advanced compressor utilizes a straight piston drive instead of a conventional reciprocating drive, resulting in less internal friction, higher reliability and greater durability with less noise. In tests conducted by VDE, LG refrigerators featuring Inverter Linear Compressors proved to be approximately 32 percent more energy efficient1 and up to 25 percent quieter2 than their non-Inverter counterparts. The company is so confident in the durability of the compressor that it is backed by a 10-year warranty.

Outstanding Convenience with Dual Door-in-Door

LG made consumers’ lives easier with its innovative Door-in-Door technology to give family members quick access to frequently sought food items. LG has taken this one step further by adding another Door-in-Door compartment, doubling the convenience. The right Door-in-Door compartment is accessible from the outside at the push of a button, making the space suitable for items that are frequently consumed by every member of the family, such as snacks and drinks. The left Door-in-Door compartment can be opened with the Hidden Easy Open Handle at the bottom of the door and is ideal for storing essential cooking ingredients such as pre-chopped vegetables, condiments and sauces. Both Door-in-Door compartments are equipped with Moving Baskets, enabling users to easily adjust the height of the internal compartments as they see fit.

The refrigerator’s Door-in-Door design reduces the amount of cold air escaping by up to 47 percent 3. With the addition of a second independent Door-in-Door compartment, cold air loss is further reduced.

Intelligent Organization with Smarter Storage

Thanks to the Dual Door-in-Door feature, foodstuffs can be stored in easily navigable sections, improving organization and enhancing convenience. In addition, the insulation walls of the multi-door refrigerators have been narrowed, enabling even more storage space. What’s more, the central partition found in most two door refrigerators has been eliminated, freeing up even more space.

Keep Foods Fresh with Total No Frost Technology

LG has long been the leader in Total No Frost technology, a key feature included in all of LG’s refrigerators sold in the European market. Total No Frost technology creates the ideal food storage environment by using a fan to uniformly dispersing cold air throughout the space. And LG refrigerators are equipped with Multi Air Flow to evenly regulate the interior temperature. Select LG refrigerators feature the unique Pure N Fresh air filtration system which circulates purified air through air flow channels to remove odors and keep food fresher longer.

Convenient Features and Hassle-Free Smart Technology

LG’s Smart Diagnosis™, featured on certain refrigerator models, allows call center representatives to quickly diagnose any problems the refrigerator may encounter without having to make a house visit. Moist Balance Crisper™ keeps fruits and vegetables from rotting by maintaining the correct moisture balance.

Glass Bottom-Freezer’s Award Winning Design

LG’s premium contour glass bottom-freezer refrigerator was recognized at the 2014 Red Dot Design Award for pairing refined aesthetics and efficiency-enhancing features. The contour glass exterior of this premium model features an easy-to-use display and features an attractive chrome wine rack. A premium modern design enhances the entire package for a refrigerator that will look great in any kitchen.

“LG’s latest refrigerators have been designed to reflect European consumers’ consideration of the environment and preference for convenient home solutions,” said Jo Seong-jin, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “Every day we strive to create new technologies and convenience-enhancing features to meet the expectations of our customers which enable us to keep our leadership in the premium refrigerator market.”
