SEOUL, Nov. 9, 2014 ― LG Electronics (LG) this week will begin rolling out the highly anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade for G3 smartphones starting in Poland this week, to be followed by other key markets in the near future. LG, the first global smartphone manufacturer to offer the Lollipop upgrade in 2014, will subsequently announce an upgrade schedule for other LG mobile devices.

This latest Android OS delivers a host of improvements including a new design language with added depth, shadows and animations. Notifications are improved with a new layout and color scheme and will be available on the new lock screen. A new security feature to strengthen the connectivity between devices will include enable users to unlock their smartphone when it is physically near a pre-registered Bluetooth device such as the LG G Watch or G Watch R. Lollipop also introduces Android Runtime (ART) software to improve performance.

GOOGLE AND LG ENTER INTO GLOBAL PATENT LICENSE AGREEMENT

The agreement covers the two companies’ existing patents as well as those filed over the next 10 years.

Companywide Operating Profit Doubles as Mobile Business
Revenues Surge 39 Percent with Nearly 17 Million Smartphones Sold

SEOUL, Oct. 29, 201— LG Electronics (LG) announced unaudited third quarter consolidated revenues of KRW 14.92 trillion (USD 14.54 billion), an increase of 7.4 percent year-over-year, and operating profit of KRW 461.3 billion (USD 449.61 million), more than double the figure from the same period a year ago. LG’s earnings reflected strong performance from its mobile business which saw record smartphone sales in the third quarter with sales of 16.8 million units.

The LG Home Entertainment Company reported third-quarter revenues of KRW 4.71 trillion (USD 4.59 billion), a slight decline of 3 percent from the same period last year. Operating profit of KRW 130.5 billion (USD 127.19 million) increased 5 percent from the same quarter last year due to better product mix. Sales of LCD TVs increased year-over-year in regions such as North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. LG expects sales of 4K Ultra HD TVs and commercial digital signage products to grow, while market demand for monitors and AV products is expected to slow.

The LG Mobile Communications Company shipped a record-breaking 16.8 million smartphones in the third quarter, an increase of 39 percent year-on-year and 16 percent more units than the previous quarter. Sales of KRW 4.25 trillion (USD 4.14 billion) and operating income of KRW 167.4 billion (USD 163.16 million) were the highest in the company’s history since the third quarter of 2009. Building on its momentum and two consecutive profitable quarters, LG expects to strengthen its positioning in the smartphone market with its G Series and L SeriesIII models despite the landscape becoming more competitive.

The LG Home Appliance Company reported revenues of KRW 2.91 trillion (USD 2.84 billion), a slight decrease from the same period the year before, despite improved sales in Korea, Europe and developing markets such as the Middle East and South East Asia. Greater competition in North America and unfavorable foreign currency exchange rates resulted in a lower third–quarter operating profit of KRW 51.8 billion (USD 50.49 million). LG expects profitability to increase in the fourth quarter with an expanded home appliance product portfolio and improved cost structure.

The LG Air Conditioning & Energy Solution Company reported revenues of KRW 925.6 billion (USD 902.14 million), a 5 percent decline from a year ago. An operating loss of KRW 2.5 billion (USD 2.44 million) was primarily due to weak demand in residential air conditioners in Korea related to weather conditions, which offset steady growth in the Middle East and Latin America. LG expects overseas sales to improve with more customized and higher energy efficient systems while it targets the growing construction and civilian industries in Korea with its commercial products.

SEOUL, Oct. 24, 2014 — LG Electronics (LG) unveiled its first mobile application processor (AP) featuring eight-core architecture and LTE-A Cat.6 network capability for high performance and low energy consumption. The new AP, named NUCLUN, will make its debut this week in the “G3 Screen”, a smartphone developed specifically for the Korean market.

NUCLUN (pronounced NOO-klun) was designed using ARM® big.LITTLE™ technology for efficient multi-tasking capabilities. The AP employs four 1.5GHz cores (ARM Cortex-A15) for high performance and four 1.2GHz cores (ARM Cortex-A7) for less intensive processing. Improved Real Time Communication in West Africa Critical in Fighting Epidemic

SEOUL, Oct. 22, 2014 — LG Electronics (LG) will be contributing two thousands smartphones toward the United Nations’ response to the deadly outbreak of the Ebola virus in West Africa. The donated smartphones from LG will be provided to healthcare and other key personnel dispatched by the UN in the affected areas where they are urgently needed. The smartphones will allow for fast and seamless communication between the teams on the ground, focusing on medical data gathering, monitoring and planning. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will facilitate the distribution of the mobile devices.

“We hope that our contribution will make a difference as the UN and NGOs fight on the front lines to improve healthcare, food security and sanitation in areas affected by the Ebola epidemic,” said Choong-hak Lee, senior vice president and head of LG’s corporate social responsibility efforts. “This endeavor is representative of LG’s ongoing mission to use its technology to contribute toward resolving global issues.”

According to OCHA, almost one billion dollars will be needed to address the immediate humanitarian needs caused by the Ebola virus. Almost 5,000 people have been infected with Ebola since the outbreak started in West Africa in March with more than 2,400 individuals having died across the region. Support from LG and other international partners is critical to the UN’s efforts to stabilize the outbreak.

LG’s HD MiniBeam (model PH300) offers exceptional mobility and viewing experience on top of a host of advanced technologies highlighted by a durable, long-life LED light source. Built with durability in mind, the LED has an estimated lifespan of 30,000 hours, the equivalent of ten years watching eight hours a day. Additionally, LG’s Auto Vertical Keystone (AVK) technology makes the HD MiniBeam far more convenient to operate than conventional projectors. AVK simplifies setup and removes the need for constant lens adjustment, automatically selecting the optimal projection angle and minimizing image distortion. LG UNVEILS LATEST HVAC SOLUTIONS AT CHILLVENTA 2014

NUREMBERG, Oct. 14, 201— LG Electronics (LG) will give visitors to Chillventa 2014 their first look the company’s latest residential and commercial HVAC products as well as its renewable energy solutions. A biennial event taking place from October 14–16 at the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg in Germany, Chillventa is the premier European tradeshow for refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation and heat pumps.

The LG booth at Chillventa 2014 will feature five main sections: Multi V IV Zone, Multi V Zone, Therma V and RAC Zone, Inverter Single and Multi Split Zone and the BMS Zone. There will be live demonstrations of the company’s newest technologies including Multi V IV Heat Recovery, Hydro Kit, Therma V and ARTCOOL Stylist Inverter V. At Chillventa 2014, LG will demonstrate energy efficient heating technologies such as its Multi V IV Heat Recovery of Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) solution, ideal for commercial buildings such as hotels, hospitals and offices. A central component in LG’s lineup, Multi V IV Heat Recovery was designed to allow simultaneous heating and cooling in different building zones. Though capable of running these two very different functions at the same time, this system is able to save energy even when both functions are in use. For example, with the heating and cooling operation rates at 60 and 40 percent respectively, the LG Multi V IV Heat Recovery system achieves an impressively high coefficient of performance (COP) of up to 8.5, resulting in an energy savings of 30 percent over conventional systems.

Multi V IV Heat Recovery can help meet the hot water needs of medium to large sized buildings when combined with LG’s Hydro Kit water heating solution. Working in tandem to reduce energy consumption, this combination can rapidly heat water to a maximum temperature of 80 degrees Celsius. The Multi V IV Heat Recovery solution generates powerful heating airflow and helps the Hydro Kit perform its floor and water heating duties at the same time. In keeping with LG’s green vision, these systems produce a minimal amount of CO2 emissions and lower energy costs by recycling heat from all connected indoor units.

Suited for new or recently renovated houses, LG’s Therma V offers a reliable supply of hot water, effective floor heating and optimum flexibility. The main strength of Therma V is its ability to deliver energy efficiency without sacrificing performance. Weather Dependent Operation Mode automatically adjusts the indoor temperature in response to changes in outside temperature in order to provide comfort and convenience. What’s more, this system’s Silent Mode lowers operational noise at night or whenever a quieter environment is desired.

Unveiled at IFA in Berlin earlier this month, the LG G3 Stylus made an impression on attendees of Europe’s largest consumer electronics trade show with its large display, stylus pen and LG’s proprietary camera UX features all in a smartly-priced package. The G3 Stylus will debut this week in Brazil followed shortly by introductions in Latin America, Central Asia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
