INTRODUCING G4 STYLUS AND G4c, NEWEST MEMBERS OF LG’S G4 SERIES
More Options Including Many of the Great Features Found on LG G4 /
SEOUL, May 19, 2015 — LG Electronics (LG) officially announces two new members of the G4 family, the G4 Stylus and G4c. Both smartphones will begin shipping to retailers around the world in the next several weeks and throughout the month of May. Both exceptionally priced devices share many of the same high-end user experience features found in the LG G4.
The G4 Stylus is a 5.7-inch handset, slightly larger than the 5.5-inch display found in the G4. As its name implies, The G4 Stylus includes LG’s versatile Rubberdium™ Stylus, allowing for easy note taking and drawing on the generously-sized screen. Its smaller sibling, the 5.0-inch LG G4c, offers many of the G4’s premium features and styling but in a more compact form factor.
Both G4 Series phones feature 13MP or 8MP rear cameras and 5MP front-facing camera for high quality photos and portraits. Other popular LG exclusives such as Gesture Shot, Glance View and Knock Code™ make both devices more convenient, secure and fun to use. The G4 Stylus inherits the super-fast Laser Autofocus feature found in previous G Series smartphones for sharply focused shots even in dim surroundings. HD quality IPS displays with In-Cell Touch technology deliver a visual experience that is far more immersive and responsive than on most other smartphones in this class.
“The G4 Stylus and G4c are perfect examples of what we mean by a premium smartphone experience without a premium price,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We are committed to offering consumers in fast-growing markets LG devices that not only deliver performance, but also look good while doing so. Both the G4 Stylus and G4c will surpass customers’ expectations of what an LG phone should be.”
The G4 Stylus (available as G Stylo in North America and Korea) will be offered in both LTE and 3G configurations in Metallic Silver or Floral White color options. The G4c is an LTE model only and will come in Metallic Gray, Ceramic White and Shiny Gold.
The LG G4 Stylus and G4c are scheduled to launch in key strategic markets in the weeks to come. Prices and participating carriers will be announced locally at the time of availability.

LG ELECTRONICS REPORTS SOLID 1Q NET PROFIT AS SMARTPHONE SHIPMENTS INCREASE
Continues Solid Earnings in Mobile Division with Competitive Smartphones
SEOUL, Apr. 29, 2015 — LG Electronics (LG) today announced unaudited first-quarter net profit of KRW 38.4 billion (USD 34.91 million) and operating profit of KRW 305.2 billion (USD 277.45 million), up significantly from the previous quarter. Consolidated revenues of 13.99 trillion (USD 12.72billion) were virtually unchanged from the same period a year ago as soaring smartphone sales were offset by modest revenue declines in TVs. LG’s mobile division recorded its highest first-quarter revenues since introducing its first Android device in 2010. The Home Appliance & Air Solutions Company also saw profitability rise compared to the same period last year.
The LG Home Entertainment Company reported first-quarter revenues of KRW 4.44 trillion (USD 4.03billion), a 5 percent decline from a year ago. Operating margin was lower than the same period last year as unfavorable currency exchange and seasonality resulted in declining revenues from LCD TVs in North America, Europe, CIS and Latin America compared to the previous quarter. A stronger focus on 4K Ultra HD and OLED TV marketing and increasing demand in Asia and North America for all TV products are expected to improve the outlook for the LG Home Entertainment Company in the second quarter.
The LG Mobile Communications Company recorded a strong first quarter 2015, shipping 15.4 million smartphones, an increase of 26 percent compared with the same period last year. Sales of KRW 3.6 trillion (USD 3.27 billion) were up 5 percent from the first quarter last year, while operation profit margins improved both quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year. Sales in North America increased by an impressive 66 percent from the same period of 2014, while sales in Korea grew 57 percent from the previous quarter with the introduction of the G Flex2 premium smartphone featuring a unique Plastic-OLED display. The launch of the LG G4 in the second quarter is expected to strengthen the company’s presence in the premium smartphone segment and further improve profitability.
The LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company posted a 9 percent increase in operating profit to KRW 229.3 billion (USD 208.45 million) compared to the same period the year before and a profit margin of 5.6 percent in the first quarter largely as a result of improved product mix and cost structure. Revenues declined 2 percent year-over-year to KRW 4.06 trillion (USD 3.69 billion) due to greater competition in North America and unfavorable foreign currency exchange movement in developing markets. Going forward, LG expects sales for air conditioners and refrigerators to increase during the peak season with the introduction of market-leading products.
The LG Vehicle Components Company, which was created in July 2013, announced its business performance for the first time this quarter. The company recorded revenues of KRW 382.6 billion (USD 347.82 million) in the first quarter mainly from its car infotainment business which includes telematics and audio-video navigation systems. Despite a modest operating loss of KRW 2.4 billion (USD 2.18 million), LG will continue its investment in R&D, confident that the market for car infotainment, electric car components and automotive electronic components will grow with the popularity of electric and smart cars.
2015 1Q Exchange Rates Explained
LG Electronics’ unaudited quarterly earnings results are based on IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) for the three-month period ending March 31, 2015. Amounts in Korean won (KRW) are translated into U.S. dollars (USD) at the average rate of the three-month period of the corresponding quarter — KRW 1,100 per USD (2015 1Q).
Earnings Conference and Conference Call

LG G4: THE MOST AMBITIOUS SMARTPHONE YET
LG Invites Consumers to See and Feel How Great a Smartphone Can Be
SEOUL, April 29, 2015 — LG Electronics (LG) unveils its eagerly anticipated LG G4 smartphone today, at launch events in New York, London, Paris, Singapore, Istanbul and Seoul. Approximately 1,000 guests around the world gathered to view the new LG G4, the successor to the G3, which exceeded all expectations in terms of sales and industry awards. Among the first users of the LG G4 will be 4,000 lucky customers who will receive the new smartphone as part of the company’s largest-ever consumer experience campaign.
With the G4, LG focused on delivering comfortable elegance, a great visual experience and a human-centric user experience. The LG G4 camera features a rare-in-smartphones F1.8 aperture lens which allows 80 percent more light to hit the image sensor than in the LG G3. The innovative camera module is paired with the new IPS Quantum Display that is better in every way than the innovative Quad HD display introduced to the world in the LG G3. The LG G4 embodies human sensibility that is clearly visible in its Slim Arc exterior design and graphical user interface.
“We are living up to our promise of Innovation for a Better Life with a fashionable, premium smartphone that is more focused on delivering a balanced user experience that can compete with the best of the best,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We wanted to give consumers a truly human-centric device that combined the analog sensibilities with technologies that delivered real world performance. From the design to the camera to the display to the UX, this is the most ambitious phone we’ve ever created.”
Comfortable & Elegant Design
LG paid special attention to the materials utilized in its newest flagship. The LG G4 is available in handcrafted, genuine full grain leather in six beautiful colors. The vegetable tanning process employed is an age old tradition that requires skilled craftsmen to produce and dye the leather. The colors of the leather on the G4 are rich with warm tones that look authentic and change over time. Most importantly, vegetable tanned leather is environmentally friendly and can be recycled easily, since no harsh chemicals are used. Other material options for the G4 rear cover include pure Ceramic White with 3D patterns, artisan-forged Metallic Gray as well lustrous, Shiny Gold.
The fashionable elegance of the LG G4 is a refreshing change from the uniformly flat, full metal designs that have been become standard across the industry. The LG G4’s design is defined by the Slim Arc, which runs along its entire body, highlighted by a display with a subtle curvature. More than just a design accent, Slim Arc offers 20 percent better durability than a flat smartphone in face-down drops and gives the smartphone a more comfortable and secure feel in the hand.
The exterior design is also reflected in the smartphone’s user interface, which includes simple, naturally intuitive graphics. In the LG G4, the icon colors are more vibrant with icons that have rounded corners, consistent with the Slim Arc design. What’s more, the Smart Notice widget automatically changes its background and text color based on the home screen image selected by the user.
Great Visual Experience
LG designed the 16MP camera in the LG G4 to capture beautiful images, even under less than ideal lighting conditions. The camera module features a wide F1.8 aperture lens that allows 80 percent more light to reach the sensor. LG improved low-light performance even further with OIS 2.0, which doubles the performance of the improved OIS+ by expanding the range of image stabilization from one degree to two degrees on the X- and Y-axis and adding a third axis for the first time.
New for G4, Manual Mode allows experienced photographers the ability to exercise more artistic expression by letting them directly control the focus, shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation and white balance for every shot. Advanced photographers can also save their photos in RAW format, in addition to JPEG, for more precise editing with no loss of details.
The advanced camera in the LG G4 is complemented by Color Spectrum Sensor (CSS), the first feature of its kind to find its way into a smartphone. CSS improves color accuracy by precisely reading the RGB values of the ambient light in a scene, as well as the infrared light reflected from objects. CSS uses this information to adjust the camera’s white balance and flash color to create images that are as close to what one would see with the naked eye. With Color Spectrum Sensor, no longer will reds appear as bright orange or whites as dull yellow.
For selfies good enough to frame, LG included an industry-leading 8MP front-facing camera for sharp, detailed portraits and group shots. Gesture Interval Shot improves on the original Gesture Shot feature by taking four shots spaced two seconds apart, increasing the chance of getting that perfect shot under the most difficult conditions. Triggering the shutter is as simple as opening and closing one’s hand twice in front of the camera.
Taking a quantum leap in display technology, the LG G4 is the first smartphone to use LG Display’s new 5.5-inch IPS Quantum Display, which offers 20 percent greater color reproduction, 25 percent improvement in brightness and 50 percent greater contrast. It is the first Quad HD display to employ Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT) technology, which combines the LCD and touch sensor into a single layer to provide better color reproduction and touch sensitivity. This new display is calibrated for DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives) standards for color expression, championed by top Hollywood studios.
Power and Performance
With G4, the higher quality display doesn’t come at the expense of battery life. The LG G4 is equipped with a high-capacity 3,000mAh removable battery, a rare feature in today’s high-end smartphones. Combined with the benefits offered by the snappy yet energy-thrifty Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 808 processor with X10 LTE, the LG G4 has no trouble getting through a full day of normal use. In fact, the LG G4 is estimated to last 20 percent longer than the G3, from the same capacity battery.
To mark the first public unveiling of its Snapdragon™ 808 processor, Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, executive chairman of Qualcomm International joined Mr. Cho on stage in New York City with Qualcomm vice chairman Jim Doh attending in Seoul.
“LG and Qualcomm Technologies collaborated from the initial stage of the Snapdragon 808 introduction to expertly tune the technologies and make several of the LG G4’s unique features possible,” said Jacobs. “The resulting G4 smartphone is an ideal example of how the best optimized technologies come together to meet consumers’ needs.”
Human-Centric UX
The LG G4 is the first phone to utilize the new human-centric UX 4.0 that promises to be simpler and more intuitive to better understand and respond to the needs of each user. The improved UX eliminates unnecessary steps while providing more configuration options for advanced users.
■ Quick Shot allows customers to take pictures without opening the camera app by double tapping the phone’s Rear Key while the display is off. LG G4 also has an incredibly fast camera startup time of just six-tenths of a second.
■ The new Gallery makes it extremely fast to scroll through thousands of pictures and view them on a timeline. The Memories feature automatically organizes photos and videos into event albums based on the time and place they were taken, without having to upload to the cloud.
■ Event Pocket allows users to create one, unified calendar by dragging and dropping appointments and activities from multiple calendars and social media sites. After the initial setup, there’s no need to log into multiple calendars.
■ The improved Smart Notice provides more personalized notifications for weather, travel and more by analyzing habits, such as how a user commutes to work. This allows Smart Notice to issue personalized messages such as, “Make sure to take an umbrella on your way to the subway.”
■ Quick Help allows users to search for instant answers to any questions about operating the LG G4, right in the Smart Notice widget. Quick Help can guide users through the LG G4’s settings and even schedule a call with customer service.
LG has sought out partnerships to enhance the overall user experience of the G4. Google Office comes pre-installed on the LG G4 for easy collaboration on-the-go and G4 owners will receive an additional 100GB of Google Drive storage free for two years. With MirrorLink and LG G4, owners of Volkswagen vehicles will be able to view a car-friendly version of the G4 interface on the in-dash display for full integration with contacts, navigation and music on the smartphone.
The LG G4 will start its global roll-out on April 29 in Korea and will eventually be available on approximately 180 carriers worldwide. Prices and carrier availability will be announced locally in each market.

PREMIUM LG WATCH URBANE FIRST NEW ANDROID WEAR DEVICE TO FEATURE LATEST OS
Elegantly Designed Smartwatch Rolls Out Worldwide
With Latest Technology and Performance
SEOUL, Apr. 23, 2015 — LG Electronics (LG) will begin the global rollout of its premium LG Watch Urbane this week in South Korea to be followed by key markets in North America, Europe and Asia in the weeks to come. Customers in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States will be able to purchase the LG Watch Urbane on Google Store starting this month.
At MWC 2015, the LG Watch Urbane received numerous awards and accolades from consumers, media and industry thought leaders for its modern design, full-circle Plastic OLED (P-OLED) display and overall usefulness. The LG Watch Urbane carries over the 1.3-inch P-OLED display from the LG G Watch R but features a less prominent and lower profile bezel. Its dimensions are smaller overall and thinner, without reducing the size of the display or the battery.
Responding to consumers’ desire for style as well as function, the LG Watch Urbane has a full metal body with a stitched genuine leather strap. The stainless steel body is available in a luxurious polished rose gold and silver, accentuated further with a narrow bezel that gives the device the sleek lines of a classic timepiece. Unlike many other competing smartwatches, the band can be exchanged with any replacement 22mm leather, silicone or metal strap for the ultimate in convenience and personalization.
LG Watch Urbane is the first new smartwatch powered by the latest version of Android Wear which works seamlessly with smartphones running Android 4.3 and above. Some of the features available for the first time on any Android Wear device include Wi-Fi connectivity, always-on apps to keep the display from going dark when running, navigating or even grocery shopping and an improved UX that makes launching favorite apps and getting in touch with friends easier than ever before with everything now front-and-center.
The latest OS allows users to send emojis by drawing them directly on the LG Watch Urbane. Draw a smiley face, a clock showing a certain time or any other pictures and Android Wear will match your drawing to the closest Unicode emoji for sending to another Android Wear watch, smartphone, or computer. Other improvements include the ability to change the font size and see notifications even when looking at another function on the display, such as directions. What’s more, the screen on the LG Watch Urbane can now be set to lock automatically when it is removed from the wrist.
Included in LG Watch Urbane are two new and useful features not available on other Android Wear devices: LG Call and LG Pulse. LG Call allows the wearer to access recent calls and the favorite contacts list on the connected smartphone to dial out directly from the watch. When connected to a Bluetooth headset, there is no need to remove the phone from one’s pocket to place a call. And LG Pulse takes health monitoring to a whole new level by measuring the wearer’s heart rate every second during exercise with no maximum time limit. At the end of the activity, LG Pulse will report the average heart rate over the entire duration of the activity and display a heart rate graph on LG Health (coming soon).
“The LG Watch Urbane is the third Android Wear device introduced by LG in the past year which demonstrates our commitment to this platform,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “More importantly, LG Watch Urbane is a perfect example that Android Wear watches can be functional and beautiful and a useful accessory that complements any wardrobe. No one would mistake LG Watch Urbane for a computer on your wrist.”
Price and additional purchase details will be announced locally at the time of availability.

LG MUSIC FLOW OFFERS MORE LISTENING OPTIONS WITH GOOGLE CAST
LG-Google Collaboration Makes Accessing Music Even More Convenient
SEOUL, Apr. 14, 2015 — LG Electronics (LG) will introduce its first audio products to offer Google Cast in its lineup of smart Hi-Fi speakers and soundbars. LG’s Music Flow is a smart Hi-Fi audio system that takes the experience of reconnecting with favorite music to a whole new level. Google Cast will allow anyone to send their favorite music from their AndroidTM phone or tablet, iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows laptop or Chromebook to their Google Cast-enabled LG Music Flow audio speakers and soundbars.1
The Music Flow lineup from LG includes the company’s first battery-powered Portable Wi-Fi Speaker (Model H4 Portable), Wi-Fi Speakers (Model H7/H5/H3) and Wi-Fi Soundbars (Model HS9/HS7/HS6). Each model can be controlled using LG’s intuitive Music Flow app for various Android, iOS or Chromebook mobile devices.
With Google Cast, proud LG Music Flow owners will not only be able to stream music from their mobile devices but also listen to tunes from their favorite online music service, including Google PlayTM Music, Pandora, Songza, TuneIn, iHeartRadio and Rdio, among others. Listeners can enjoy higher audio quality than what they would hear with a Bluetooth speaker because the music is sent from the cloud, not a mobile device.
“We are pleased to announce that LG Music Flow will be among the first audio speakers to feature Google Cast” said Byung-hoon Min, senior vice president and head of the CAV division at the LG Home Entertainment Company. “Google Cast is a perfect companion for LG’s Music Flow audio system. We are excited to work with Google in making music a more enjoyable experience for consumers worldwide”.
LG has integrated additional streaming partners including the popular services Deezer and Spotify to complement customers’ personal music collections. Spotify users can take advantage of Spotify Connect, which will act as a remote, allowing them to control their LG Music Flow speakers through the app.
LG Music Flow system speakers and soundbars can be connected to mobile devices as well as to one another over LG’s Advanced Wireless Network for easy audio customization while delivering superior sound performance. All LG Music Flow devices offer additional convenient features such as Home Cinema Mode and Auto Music Play and can connect to streaming services via Bluetooth. Home Cinema Mode lets users enjoy a true home cinema listening experience when watching great TV content and Auto Music Play syncs with users’ devices via Wi-Fi using LG’s Range-of-Flow technology.
Google Cast will be available in LG Music Flow models including HS9, HS7, HS6, H7, H5, H3 starting in April and in H4 Portable by the end of May. Current owners of LG Music Flow speakers and soundbars will be able to upgrade their products over-the-air with Google Cast once the service is introduced in local markets.

LG UNVEILS MORE HUMAN-CENTRIC LG UX 4.0
Simpler, More Intuitive and Smarter Mobile Interface Understands Users Better
SEOUL, Apr. 7, 2015 — LG Electronics (LG) today announced that its newest mobile user interface, LG UX 4.0, will be featured on the upcoming LG G4 to be unveiled at the end of the month. The upgraded user experience promises to be simpler and more intuitive and will better understand and respond to the needs of each user.
Since Quick Memo and QSlide were first introduced on the Optimus G in 2012, LG has introduced major UX enhancements every year with each G Series flagship smartphone:
Version | Main Features | User Benefit |
UX 1.0 | Quick Memo, QSlide | Efficient management |
UX 2.0 | KnockON, KnockCodeTM | Greater convenience |
UX 3.0 | Gesture Shot, Touch & Shoot | Easier and simpler usage |
UX 4.0 | Camera Manual Mode, Smart Notice | Personalized user experience |
Up until now, UX enhancements have generally focused on delivering greater convenience to all users. With the new LG UX 4.0, the focus shifts toward providing more optimized and intuitive convenience to each individual at every user level for optimal enjoyment of their LG device.
Simpler and More Intuitive to Use
First of all, LG has created a smoother user experience by simplifying the design of the user interface and making features simpler to use by eliminating many redundant configuration steps. For example, Quick Shot is a new feature that allows users to take pictures quickly by double-tapping the phone’s Rear Key even while the display is off. And the improved Smart Bulletin automatically aggregates vital information from multiple apps on the same page for maximum convenience.
A Wider Range of Specialized Choices
UX 4.0 also gives users a wider range of options based on their own preferences and interests. The new camera offers three user modes — Simple, Basic and Manual — to meet the needs of all types of photographers, from amateurs to expert shutterbugs. Simple Mode does all the hard work automatically and still delivers great photos. Manual Mode features a suite of modules and options for full creative control that would impress even the most experienced photographer.
The improved calendar also offers more choices by giving users the ability to select and organize individual events posted insocial media accounts by simply dragging and dropping appointments. The new calendar allows you to get more done with less typing by simply touching and gesturing.
Smarter UX That Understands You
The improved Smart Notice on LG UX 4.0 promises to provide more personalized notifications for weather, travel and more by analyzing a user’s daily routine and travel schedule and combining this information with the user’s lifestyle habits. Auser who enjoys a game of hoops may receive a notification that says, “The weather will be mostly sunny today. It’s the perfect weather to get out and play basketball.”
Another example of greater customization in LG UX 4.0 can be seen in the Gallery, which can create event-specific albums based on the location and time each photo was taken. This intelligent customization goes even further with the Ringtone ID, which automatically composes a unique ringtone for every caller in the user’s favorite contact list.
“LG UX 4.0 offers simpler, faster and more intuitive ways to use the G4 with both new and improved features that intelligently accommodate each individual user,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We will continue to better understand our customers so we can continue delivering innovations for a better life through our human-centric approach.”

“LG values our partnership with ENERGY STAR, and it’s exciting to see the positive impact LG is making with American consumers,” said William Cho, President and CEO of LG Electronics USA. “We’re helping consumers experience Innovation for a Better Life by creating products that deliver energy savings without sacrificing performance or style. We are committed, now more than ever, to continuing our work to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment.”
Applauding LG for its accomplishments, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy said, “Through their sustained participation with ENERGY STAR, LG is helping Americans save money, save energy, and do their part to reduce our nation’s greenhouse gas emissions that fuel climate change. I applaud LG for earning EPA’s highest ENERGY STAR honor, the 2015 Partner of the Year-Sustained Excellence Award, demonstrating a strong commitment to energy efficiency and to preserving a healthy planet for future generations.”
Commitment to ENERGY STAR Product Leadership
Recognized by the EPA as ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for the past four years, LG is committed to developing the most innovative and energy-efficient products that provide consumers with superior performance while achieving significant energy savings and lessening the impact on the planet, Cho said.
In 2014, the company offered nearly 300 ENERGY STAR certified models in a range of product categories including clothes washers, dishwashers, refrigerators, TVs, computer monitors, room air conditioners and LED lighting. LG increased its total sales of ENERGY STAR certified products by nearly 18 percent from 2013.
LG expanded its efforts in 2014 to further promote the ENERGY STAR brand. American consumers purchased more than 1 million LG products that were awarded the “ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 2014” distinction, which helps consumers easily identify the most efficient products among those that have earned the ENERGY STAR label.
LG also celebrated a key industry milestone in 2014, introducing the ultra-efficient LG EcoHybrid™ Heat Pump Dryer, the first recipient of the coveted 2014 ENERGY STAR Emerging Technology Award. The LG EcoHybrid dryer uses 50 percent less energy compared to conventional electric dryers. LG also was the first to announce ENERGY STAR certified gas dryers in 2014, even before the new U.S. Department of Energy efficiency standards for dryers took effect in 2015.
Stepped-Up Community Outreach and Education Efforts
Expanding its efforts to change consumer behaviors in 2014, LG generated millions of consumer impressions with its stepped-up public education and community outreach campaigns about the impact of climate change.
Chief among them was LG’s industry-leading support of EPA’s first-ever community service-themed ENERGY STAR Change the World Tour, a nationwide tour bringing public and private organizations together to make a difference in people’s lives through community service focused on energy efficiency. As a major technology provider for the tour, LG supported energy-saving upgrades at multiple tour stops, including installation of an ENERGY STAR Most Efficient LG 65-inch class HDTV and ENERGY STAR certified commercial clothes washers for homeless veterans at the U.S. Vets facility in Phoenix.
Throughout 2014 LG integrated key messaging about fighting climate change in creative ways. This included celebrating Earth Month on the LG billboard in the heart of New York City’s Times Square where LG displayed a public service announcement (PSA) encouraging children and families to “fight climate change with TEAM ENERGY STAR.” The PSA, which aired throughout April 2014, generated an estimated 18 million impressions.
Among other 2014 initiatives, LG collected more than 1,400 “Change the World-Start with ENERGY STAR” Pledges and reached more than 20,000 fans with ENERGY STAR messaging at the NCAA® Final Four® in Atlanta, leveraging LG’s role as Official NCAA Corporate Partner.
EPA Recognizes Excellence and Leadership
The 2015 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year-Sustained Excellence Awards are bestowed upon organizations to recognize their contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through superior energy efficiency achievements.
According to the EPA, these winners have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by setting and achieving aggressive goals, and employing innovative energy efficiency approaches. These awards recognize ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, including energy-efficient products, services, new homes, and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public sectors.
Since its inception in 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped prevent a total of more than two billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In 2014 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners provided more than $12 billion in societal benefits due to reducing damages from climate change.

LG and IVI Conduct Cholera Vaccination Campaign in Ethiopia
40,000 Ethiopians Vaccinated Against Deadly
AWD in Alignment with World Health Day
SEOUL, Apr. 7, 2015— LG Electronics (LG), in collaboration with the International Vaccine Institute (IVI), the Oromia Regional Health Bureau and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), successfully conducted a community-based cholera vaccination campaign to protect residents against Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) in the Shashemenae town of West Arsi Zone in Ethiopia’s Oromia Region. The campaign is consistent with the goals of this year’s World Health Day on food safety.
World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on 7 April under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO). According to the WHO, an estimated 582 million cases of foodborne enteric disease and 351,000 associated deaths are recorded every year around the world due to food-related illnesses. AWD disease is often spread by unsanitary water and food contaminated with the feces from an infected person. The cholera vaccine helps protect individuals from the effects of the Vibrio cholera bacterium which are found in food and water supplies.
The joint vaccination campaign, which ran from February to March, introduced a new oral cholera vaccine through the public health system for the first time in Ethiopia. The liquid formula was administered in two doses over a two-week period and protects against cholera for up to five years. The vaccinations were carried out at 40 vaccination booths spread out over eight sub-districts of Shashemenae with 40,000 people receiving immunizations. The vaccine was developed by IVI through a product development partnership with companies in Korea, India, Sweden, Vietnam and the United States and licensed in India as Shanchol (manufactured by Shantha Biotechnics, part of the Sanofi Group) and approved by the WHO in 2011. The campaign also collected data on the acceptability, feasibility and cost of vaccination to better respond to future AWD outbreaks.
“Cholera is a neglected disease yet it sickens millions and kills thousands of people around the world and can be potentially fatal in young children,” said Dr. Jerome H. Kim, IVI’s Director General. “Thanks to LG’s generous financial aid and support from our research and public health partners in Ethiopia, we have reached a watershed moment in public health by introducing a safe, effective and affordable vaccine in Ethiopia that can be used as a powerful tool to control cholera, in conjunction with other interventions such as sanitation and hygiene.”
LG has been supporting IVI’s vaccination project in Ethiopia since 2010 as part of its public health efforts to stem the spread of AWD. With LG funding, IVI and local partners in Ethiopia have conducted numerous activities to prepare for the pilot mass vaccination, including a cholera vaccine safety study to assess its suitability for Ethiopians, conducted in collaboration with the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI).
“In an age where vaccines are being attacked by a vocal minority of ill-informed individuals as being harmful, we think it’s more important than ever to show what good vaccination programs can do,” said Choong-hak Lee, executive vice president and head of LG’s Business Support Office. “Our long-term collaboration with IVI has improved the lives of thousands of families in Ethiopia which is why we will continue to support the IVI in their efforts across the region.”

Responsive In-Cell Touch Displays and LG’s User Experience
SEOUL, Mar. 30, 2015 — LG Electronics (LG) kicks off the global rollout of its new mid-range smartphone lineup starting in South America to be followed closely by Europe, Asia, Middle East Africa and North America. This premium but affordable series comprised of Magna, Spirit, Leon and Joy was first unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in early March where it was noted for bringing sophisticated design, optimized performance and effortless user experience to a broader range of consumers.
By combining the most essential hardware with LG’s premium design elements and user experience, LG has created the perfect balance of style and usability. The Magna and Spirit are designed to fit more comfortably in the palm of one’s hand with its subtle 3000mm radius curved display. In-cell touch display technology on the Magna, Spirit and Leon brings the on-screen images closer to the fingers for improved sensitivity and more direct touch response. LG’S NEW VIETNAM PRODUCTION PLANT OPENS FOR BUSINESS
USD 1.5 Billion Haiphong Facility to Play Key Role
in LG’s Global Manufacturing Strategy
SEOUL, Mar. 27, 2015 — LG Electronics (LG) today officially announced the opening of its newest production facility in Vietnam with the completion of the main building at its Haiphong Campus. At 800,000m2, the building in LG’s Haiphong Campus will house the production lines to manufacture TVs, mobile phones, washing machines, air conditioners and car infotainment systems for the domestic and overseas markets.
The ceremony was attended by more than 400 guests including government officials and LG employees. Vietnam President Trương Tấn Sang was in attendance along with Dae-joo Jun, the Korean Ambassador to Vietnam. LG Corp. chairman Bon-moo Koo and LG Electronics vice chairman and CEO Bon-joon Koo were also present to mark the occasion.
The Haiphong Campus will be home to many more facilities that will be constructed as part of a USD 1.5 billion investment earmarked by LG and key suppliers over 15 years. Currently operating two plants in Vietnam, LG will consolidate production in the Haiphong Campus which will continue to expand well into the next decade. LG selected as the main site for investment due to its status as a port city in northern Vietnam, making transport to other markets faster and more efficient. Additionally, Vietnam offered an educated and high quality labor force and cooperative government that was eager to work with LG.
“It’s quite appropriate to be marking this occasion on the 20th anniversary of our entry into Vietnam,” said LG Electronics CEO Bon-joon Koo. “We will make every effort to make this cooperative venture a success so that our new Haiphong Campus will play an important role in LG’s global manufacturing strategy.”
