Logo of LG Electronics

SEOUL, June 29, 201— LG Electronics (LG) became the newest member of the Open Automotive Alliance (OAA), joining global automakers and technology companies including Google, General Motors, Hyundai, Honda, and NVIDIA. From 2012, the alliance has been dedicated to introducing greater connectivity into cars through the innovative application of the Android platform.

LG showcased its new range of audio, visual and navigation (AVN) system solutions for connected cars at Google I/O 2014, the annual developer conference held in San Francisco. LG’s advanced AVN system, which is expected to be available by 2015, enables drivers to simply connect their Android device via a single cable to vehicles featuring Google’s in-car interface platform to easily and conveniently access their smartphones’ features and functions. For example, drivers can view and control their favorite smartphone navigation apps or search their mobile phone’s contacts to make calls and send text messages through the in-car display.

With the global connected car market expected to reach almost 60 million units and nearly USD 100 billion by 20181, LG’s industry-leading mobile devices and in-car infotainment capabilities will play a key role in the future of Android Auto. LG is also a global leader in 4G LTE, the main connectivity solution for connected vehicles today and in the foreseeable future.

“As a top technology company with a strong mobile business, LG has a great deal to contribute to the connected car space,” said Jong-rak Lim, vice president and head of In-vehicle Infotainment Development at LG Electronics’ Vehicle Components Company. “LG will strive to strengthen its cooperation with OAA partners to bring connected vehicles to consumers sooner rather than later.”

LG EYES MAINSTREAM ADOPTION OF WEARABLES WITH FIRST DEVICE POWERED BY ANDROID WEAR

“Glance-able” Interface of LG G Watch to Appeal to

both Consumers and Developers

The screen of LG G Watch in Black Titan color shows the flight departure details saying “SFO-FJK”. And the screen of LG G watch in White Gold color shows the weather.

SEOUL, June 26, 2014 — With an eye on transforming wearable devices into more than just a conversation piece, LG Electronics (LG) today introduced the highly anticipated LG G Watch (http://goo.gl/Ie8TB0), one of the first devices powered by Android Wear™, Google’s new operating system which extends the Android platform to wearables. As a wrist wearable device featuring a button-less design, the G Watch will appeal to a mass audience with its simple minimalist design, quick and “glance-able” access to useful information and seamless connectivity with other Android devices, keeping users connected wherever, whenever.

“As one of the first to market with Android Wear, LG wanted to develop a product that functions as an essential companion device but most importantly, was simple to use,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We wanted a device that would be simple to learn and so intuitive that users wouldn’t even have to think about how to use its features. That’s what the LG G Watch is all about.”

“Watches powered by Android Wear aim to show you the right information and suggestions you need, right when you need them,” said Sundar Pichai, SVP, Android, Chrome & Apps. “It’s been great to work with LG on the launch of the G Watch — especially given its simple, easy-to-use design.”

At the core of the LG G Watch is a powerful and energy-efficient Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 400 processor clocking in at 1.2GHz. Paired with a low power consuming AOD (always-on display) 1.65-inch IPS display with true-to-life color reproduction, the LG G Watch enhances the functionality of Android smartphones by providing quick access to useful information. The AOD (always-on display) makes it easy to tell the time with a quick glance. Connected via Bluetooth, the LG G Watch displays messages, shows who’s calling, controls music play-back and more without the smartphone ever having to be removed from a pocket or bag.

Integral to the LG G Watch and Android Wear is a simple new user experience designed around cards, which provides useful information when it’s needed, and voice recognition which allows one to ask questions and get things done easily. With voice recognition, LG was free to design the LG G Watch without any buttons or keys. Users can send text messages and search for useful information just by saying, “Ok Google”. LG and Google worked closely together from the outset to design a truly integrated experience.

The LG G Watch combines form and function in a subtle, minimalist design with an intuitive touch-based user interface. And with an Ingress Protection rating of IP67, the LG G Watch is designed to be protected from dust and water resistant for up to 30 minutes to a depth of one meter. The LG G Watch will be available in two colors — Black Titan and White Gold — and is constructed of PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coated stainless steel with a rugged silicone wristband in matching color. The LG G Watch can be personalized with any standard 22mm strap available in the market.

The LG G Watch will be available for pre-order on the Google Play Store starting June 25 in 12 countries including key markets such as the United States, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, South Korea and Japan. The LG G Watch will also be available soon after at retailers in 27 markets such as Australia, Brazil, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore and Russia. Additional details will be announced locally at the time of availability.

LG ROLLS OUT WEBOS SDK FOR LG SMART+ TVS

Eagerly Awaited Software Development Kit and
Web Site to Expand Support for webOS TV App Development

webOS for Developers displayed on LG’s Smart TV.

SEOUL, June 25, 2014 — LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled its Software Development Kit (SDK) to help developers create new LG Smart+ TV apps with greater ease and efficiency. A new accompanying website (http://developer.lge.com/webOSTV) will provide developers with access to all the information they need to create high quality webOS TV apps.

LG’s SDK simplifies the process for developers to write apps compatible with the company’s Smart+ TVs. With LG Smart+ TV Emulator, developers will be able to set up a virtual webOS TV experience on a PC. The SDK has a developer-friendly user interface and works with standard web technologies, including HTML5, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript.

The new website contains tech-related documents, development tips, sample apps, design guide, FAQs and developer forum. The Application Programming Interface (API) guide will help developers get started almost immediately without a long orientation process and clear step-by-step explanations are provided for beginners to webOS.

“One key reason behind selecting webOS as our next smart TV operating system was because of its history and origins as a developer-friendly platform,” said Dr. Scott Ahn, LG’s Chief Technology Officer. “We feel it’s very important for platform owners such as LG to assist developers in creating apps that are highly maximized for our products. In an industry where there is no single dominant standard, expanding the webOS TV ecosystem is a top priority for LG.”

from LG

SEOUL, June 24, 2014 — Following its strong debut in South Korea, LG Electronics (LG) will begin its global rollout of its highly praised G3 smartphone on June 27. LG G3 will first reach Asian customers in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines followed by the rest of Asia, Europe and the Middle East among other regions in July.

The LG G3 has received early praise from industry experts for innovations in its display, camera, design and user experience (UX) features. Developed with the motto “Simple is the New Smart” in mind, the G3 was empowered with the best of what current technology has to offer, providing consumers with a simpler and easier user experience.

Highlights include:

■ First global implementation of 5.5-inch Quad HD display (538ppi) with four times the resolution of HD and almost two times higher resolution than a Full HD display for sharper, crisper, clearer images and more realistic color reproduction.

■ 13MP OIS+ (Optical Image Stabilizer Plus) camera with faster Laser Auto Focus in a smartphone to capture quality images and videos with minimal blur, even in near complete darkness.

■ Premium-feel rear cover featuring a brushed, hairline metallic skin that is lightweight and fingerprint-proof.

■ Floating Arc form factor that incorporates LG’s innovative Rear Key and feels incredibly comfortable in the palm of one hand.

■ Simple and intuitive UX features including Smart Keyboard which reduces input errors by up to 75 percent by tracking and analyzing users’ typing habits; Smart Notice, a personal assistant application that provides real-time information and notifications even before being asked; Smart Security, a suite of security features including LG’s proprietary Knock CodeTM , Content Lock and Kill Switch.

■ Premium accessories such as the QuickCircle™ Case (sold separately) that provide users easy access to six frequently used functions without having to open the cover, as well as a collection of Slim Guard Cases and premium Slim Hard Cases to protect the G3 in the style its original designers had intended.

The G3 will be localized in some markets with unique features for additional user convenience. LG G3 smartphones sold in markets such as Europe and Asia will feature wireless charging, so can be charged using any Qi wireless charger as well as LG’s own portable wireless charger (sold separately). With LG’s new stand-type wireless charger, users can monitor and charge their phone at the same time by simply placing their device on the charging stand. See LG’s new compact and foldable wireless charger in action on YouTube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKl131EKRuQ.

“Early indications give us reason to be optimistic that G3 will be as successful globally as it has been in Korea,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “It’s quite an honor to be considered the new industry benchmark for premium smartphones but in the end, what really matters is how consumers feel about our latest flagship device because it was their feedback that helped us create G3.”

Additional details of availability, including price, will be announced locally at launch time.

LG BEGINS ROLLOUT OF NEW G PAD SERIES WITH MORE COLORS, G3 FEATURES

New Lineup Combines the Best of G Pad 8.3 and G3 for Global Audience

A back and front view of LG’s new G Pad devices.

SEOUL, June 12201— Following the unveiling of three new G Pad tablets in May, LG Electronics (LG) today announced the launch of the new tablets, starting with the G Pad 7.0 rolling out in Europe this week, followed by the G Pad 8.0 and G Pad 10.1 over the next several weeks.

The three new G Pad devices offer just the right balance of performance, personality and price to fill the gap between entry and premium tablets. All three tablets will offer a 1.2 GHz Quad-Core processor, 1GB RAM and a True IPS HD display (1280 x 800), housed in a stylish and ergonomic body in five different colors — Black, White, Red, Luminous Orange and Luminous Blue. With their rounded edges, the tablets are designed to be held comfortably with one hand.

LG’s smallest tablet, G Pad 7.0, gives users a truly portable entertainment hub that delivers both mobility and power. LG’s mid-sized tablet, G Pad 8.0, offers an immersive multimedia experience and smooth multitasking capabilities. And the G Pad 10.1 boasts an expansive display powered by an 8,000mAh battery that gives users an immersive experience for hours and hours of entertainment wherever, whenever.

“LG understands that people have different needs and we wanted to provide consumers with a range of options in size, looks, and attractive price points that included the best of LG’s core technologies,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “With our latest tablets, LG is giving consumers options to find a device that best fits their lifestyle and needs.”

LG continues to make connectivity among LG devices more convenient with the introduction of QPair 2.0 which provides seamless convergence between Android-powered tablets and smartphones via a simple Bluetooth connection. Users can receive notifications of calls and messages on a smartphone and respond directly from the G Pad. To encourage the creation of apps that make optimal use of this integration, the QPair 2.0 Software Development Kit (SDK) is now available for download from LG Developer website (http://developer.lge.com). With the SDK, developers can create apps that let users stream online media and change settings on the G Pad remotely from any Android smartphone.

LG’s effort to simplify the user experience across its entire mobile device portfolio continues with the new G Pad lineup. The graphical user interface (GUI) of all three tablets was designed to be clean, clutter-free and easy to navigate. LG adopted a minimalistic GUI design with flat graphics and a circular motif inspired by the LG logo, consistent with the look and feel of the recently unveiled LG G3 smartphone.

The new LG tablets will also include the acclaimed KnockCodeTM security feature so customers can power on and unlock their G Pad in one step with a pattern of taps. The G Pad will recognize up to four sets of knock patterns so family members can share the same tablet while still being able to keep their data and photos private.

Smart Keyboard and Dual Window will be also included in the tablet trio. As a key adaptive technology featured on LG’s latest G3 flagship smartphone, Smart Keyboard reduces input errors by up to 75 percent by tracking and analyzing typing habits and intuitively “knowing” what word the user intended to type. Dual Window can split the screen and run two applications at the same time, making multitasking easier than ever.

LG’S ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP BRINGING POSITIVE CHANGE AROUND THE WORLD

Company Celebrates World Environment Day
with Range of Eco-friendly Campaigns

LG’s outdoor LED display screens the video made by United Nations Environment Programme to commemorate World Environment Day.

SEOUL, June 4, 2014 — LG Electronics (LG) is hosting a slate of activities timed to coincide with this year’s World Environment Day on June 5 under its strong commitment to environmental stewardship.

LG shares the goal of encouraging more people to live sustainably with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the sponsor of World Environment Day. From May 1 until June 5, LG has been screening a 30-second promotional video for UNEP’s 2014 campaign Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level on its LED billboards in Times Square in New York City and Piccadilly Circus in London. The video plays an important role in LG’s global social campaign, LG Hope Screen. By communicating an important message directly to more than 1.5 million people daily in two of the world’s most global sites, LG aims to introduce the great work performed by non-governmental organizations to a large, international audience.

As a responsible corporate citizen to celebrate World Environment Day, LG will engage in several environmentally-focused activities as part of Global Volunteer Day. In Korea, LG’s labor union is hosting a training session about eco-friendly electronics for approximately 100 children. On June 1, LG personnel in the United States brought their message of sustainability to the community by participating in a 5 kilometer race during which they shared energy saving tips and challenged participants to take action at homes. LG employees in Malaysia and Austria are supporting World Environment Day with simple everyday actions to save energy, such as reducing the amount of printed materials, turning off unused lights and putting idle computers in standby mode.

LG’s innovative technologies also have been developed with a focus on improved energy efficiency to lessen their impact on the environment. For its continued leadership in promoting green products, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States has recognized LG’s efforts with a 2014 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award. And from 2009 to 2012, LG was named a member of the Carbon Management Global Leaders Club by the Carbon Disclosure Project Korea.

LG SMART+ TV PASSES ONE MILLION IN SALES SINCE INTRODUCTION

Boasting webOS Platform and Range of Smart Features,
LG’s 2014 Smart+ TV Lineup Enjoys Critical and Commercial Success

A man and woman sit on their sofa while selecting apps run by webOS with a remote on the LG Smart+ TV.

SEOUL, June 2, 2014 — LG Electronics (LG) announced that more than one million units of its webOS-enabled Smart+ TVs have been sold since the launch of the lineup in March. Featuring an intuitive user experience unmatched by any smart TV platform on the market today, LG expects sales to reach 10 million units by the first half of 2015.

“Reaching the one million mark in just three months is a significant achievement in the TV industry,” said In-kyu Lee, senior vice president and head of the TV division at the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “Rather than continuing to add more and more functions into our smart TVs that few people will ever use, we’ve decided to focus on simplicity with our 2014 Smart+ TVs with webOS. Consumers seem to share our view that this is the right direction for the evolution of smart TVs going forward.”

LG is quickly rolling out its Smart+ TV models globally and expects to be in over 150 markets by the end of the month. The company will also expand the presence of LG Smart+ TV Experience Zones in a number of major consumer electronics retail locations to give more consumers the opportunity to experience the convenience and unmatched simplicity offered by LG’s Smart+ TVs. The new TVs have captured the consumer’s imagination with LG’s focus on simplifying the user experience with Simple Switching, Simple Discovery and Simple Connection.

LG Smart+ TVs have earned the official stamp of approval from international product testing and certification organizations Underwriters Laboratories and Intertek. Both of these influential bodies — as well as most industry media titles — have positively noted LG’s ultra-convenient user interface as being a significant evolution in the development of smart TVs.

WITH NEW G3, LG AIMS TO REDEFINE CONCEPT OF SMART AND SIMPLE

New G3 Builds on Legacy of the Acclaimed G Series with
“Simple is the New Smart”

A front view and a back view of LG G3.

LONDON, May 27, 2014 — LG Electronics (LG) today introduced to the world its eagerly anticipated G3 smartphone, the successor to the company’s well-received LG G2. With launch events taking place in six cities worldwide — London, New York, San Francisco, Seoul, Singapore and Istanbul — LG G3 aims to redefine the definition of a global smartphone for global customers.

Developed under the Simple is the New Smart concept, LG G3 is a culmination of consumer research based on LG’s product development philosophy, Learning from You. The LG G3 was empowered with the best of what current technology has to offer, providing consumers with a user experience more ambitious than anything offered before by LG.

“The smartest innovation in a fast evolving smartphone market is creating harmony between advanced technology and a simplified user experience,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “LG G3 is the result of our effort to actualize that idea into a tangible product. And we are extremely pleased with the result.”

Highlights of the new G3 include:

■ 5.5-inch Quad HDdisplay with 538ppi with four times there solution of HD and almost two times higher resolution than a Full HD display

■ 13MP OIS+ (Optical Image Stabilizer Plus) camera with a revolutionary Laser Auto Focus that can shoot stunningly sharp images in a fraction of the time required by conventional phone cameras

■ Polished metallic skin on the rear cover that is lightweight, fingerprint-proof and most of all, beautiful

■ Floating Arc form factor that feels incredibly comfortable in one hand and incorporates the innovative design heritage of the Rear Key

■ Redesigned graphic user interface(GUI) consistent with the Simple is the New Smart concept of the G3

True-to-Life Viewing Experience

LG’s reputation in the display arena is second to none and the development of the G3’s breathtaking Quad HD display was the result of years of innovation in display technology. With a pixel density of 538ppi, the G3’s Quad HD display sets new viewing standard producing images that are sharper and clearer than traditional smartphone displays. At 5.5-inches, LG G3 boasts a screen ratio of 76.4 percent with thin bezels all around so the phone feels as comfortable in the hand as a smaller traditional smartphone.

The high resolution display on the G3 also required LG engineers to pair it with battery technology that was just as innovative. LG equipped the G3 with a 3,000mAh removable battery and advanced optimization technologies to further maximize battery efficiency. By replacing the metal in the battery cathode with graphite, LG engineers were able to extend the lifespan of the G3’s battery. The result is a battery that can keep up with the Quad HD display’s ultra-high performance without losing steam in the middle of the day.

Simply Captivating

The G3’s advanced 13MP OIS+ camera is designed to quickly and easily capture life’s special moments as they occur, not necessarily when you want them to occur. This is made possible with G3’s innovative Laser Auto Focus, the first of its kind in the smartphone industry. This technology enables the G3 to capture the best moment — even in low light — by measuring the distance between the subject and the camera using a laser beam. So no more fuzzy pictures of your son scoring his first football goal and or missed shots because your camera couldn’t decide quickly enough which toddler in the playground to focus on. Combined with the proven and popular OIS+ technology first seen in the G Pro 2, the G3 is sure to impress even the most discerning shutterbugs.

LG also simplified the process of actually capturing those special moments. Rather than having to focus on the subject in preview mode and then pressing the shutter button, with the G3, tapping the subject to focus will simultaneously also trigger the shutter. What’s more, the G3’s 2.1MP front camera incorporates several new enhancements such as a larger image sensor and larger aperture for more light throughput and better-looking selfies. A unique twist has been added to the standard timed selfie mode by incorporating gesture controls — when ready to shoot, simply clench your hand into a fist and the G3 will recognize the gesture and begin the automatic three-second countdown. It couldn’t get any simpler than that.

For video, the G3 offers superior sound quality with instinctive microphones that measure the environment to identify the optimal audio level for the clearest recording. And with the built-in 1W speaker with Boost AMP, users can enjoy videos and music accompanied by richer sounds and clearer tones.

Balanced andSimplified Design Language

The Floating Arc design of the G3 with its ergonomic arch and slim side profile provides an extremely comfortable grip for everyday one-handed use. The Rear Key continues to anchor LG’s innovative design language, with a newly designed power key and volume buttons as well as more premium quality materials and finish. LG also refined sophisticated technical features and advancements located on the rear by arranging them in a clean and singular layout consistent with the G3’s well-balanced design language. The stylish metallic skin with matte finish which keeps the G3 looking clean and fingerprint-free will be offered in five vibrant colors: Metallic Black, Silk White, Shine Gold, Moon Violet and Burgundy Red.

To complement the new external design, LG adopted a minimalistic user interface design with flat graphics. The circular motif of the graphic assets in the new UI was derived from the shape and concept of LG’s logo, reflecting its unique visual style and identity.

Simplified UX to Reflect Simple Pleasures

In addition to the advanced core technologies, LG took its Learning from You approach to a higher level with new UX features to offer G3 users a unique experience unlike any previous LG smartphone. Highlights include:

■ Smart Keyboard: Adaptive technology learns as you type for faster input with less mistakes. Smart Keyboard reduces input errors by up to 75 percent by tracking and analyzing typing habits and intuitively “knowing” what word the user intended to type. The height of the keyboard can also be adjusted to better fit the user’s hands and position of the thumbs. Individual keys can also be customized with frequently used symbols for even faster input.

■ Smart Notice: Like a personal assistant, Smart Notice provides suggestions and recommendations based on user behavior, phone usage patterns and location to offer user information when it’s needed the most. Smart Notice can remind you of a call you declined earlier and ask if you would like to call that person back. If you have a large number of unused files or apps on the G3 taking up valuable space, Smart Notice will ask if you would like to delete or uninstall them. But what sets Smart Notice apart from other personal assistants is its natural language capabilities. For example, instead of just displaying today’s temperature and weather forecast, Smart Notice will make a recommendation such as, “You may want to take an umbrella today since it will rain this evening.”

■ Smart Security: Understanding the importance of maintaining and securing confidential data when smartphones are shared, misplaced, lost or stolen, the LG G3 offers a number of enhanced security features such as:

Knock CodeTM enables users to unlock their device with a pattern of taps. Merging security and convenience, users can create a personalized code that can be entered anywhere on the screen. With the G3, users have the option of being able to use KnockON to wake the screen to check the time as well as enter the home screen directly via Knock CodeTM.

Content Lock keeps personal files safe and hidden from view when sharing the G3 with friends. When the G3 is connected to a PC, Content Lock prevents file previews so the data is still safe. The locked files can reside either on the G3’s internal memory or on the microSD card.

Kill Switch gives G3 owners the ability to disable their phones remotely in the event of theft. The Kill Switch also allows content on the G3 to be wiped so personal information won’t be compromised. Kill Switch also includes antivirus scanning and remote wipe and lock, among other essential features.

LG will also be offering a collection of new premium accessories to accompany the LG G3:

■ QuickCircleTM Case: Available in five colors, QuickCircleTM Case allows easy access to frequently used functions such as calling, text messaging, music and camera all from the QuickCircle window without opening the cover. In addition to the QuickCircleTM Case, LG will offer a lineup of Slim Guard Cases and premium Slim Hard Cases to protect the G3 in handsome style.

■ LG Tone InfinimTM (HBS-900): Developed in collaboration with Harman/Kardon, the Bluetooth stereo headset delivers premium audio quality sound in a stylish design. Built with retractable wire management technology and jog buttons for effortless search, Tone Infinim also features Name AlertTM to verbally notify you who is calling before you answer.

■ Wireless Charger: Compact and foldable, LG’s Wireless Charger is optimized for easy portability. Compatible with Qi’s wireless power charging technology, the Wireless Charger from LG makes staying powered up as convenient as possible.

Starting on May 28 in South Korea, LG G3 will begin rolling out worldwide on over 170 carriers. Additional details will be announced locally at the time of availability.

The folder-style case lets users enjoy various features of their G3 without ever having to open the cover. The case is designed to protect the side edges of the G3 and provide the best “grip-ability” while maintaining the G3’s original sleek lines. Tone InfinimTM is equipped with a jog button to fast forward and rewind effortlessly, as well as a sound and vibration alert function to inform of incoming messages, current time and battery status. All this while offering the longest standby time —550 hours —among behind-the-neck type Bluetooth headsets.

While Tone InfinimTM is compatible with all smart devices with Bluetooth, it is particularly optimized for LG’s upcoming G3 smartphone. Name AlertTM, which announces the name or phone number of the calling party, is one feature that is only available to G3 owners. Another feature exclusive to G3 users is Answer Me+, where raising the G3 to one’s ear will automatically disconnect Tone InfinimTM to allow for direct use of the smartphone.

“LG’s newest premium headset co-developed with Harman/Kardon will be the perfect companion device to complement our new flagship smartphone LG G3, offering superior sound for a superior phone,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “With Tone InfinimTM, LG is continuing the trend established by the original Tone for offering premium Bluetooth headsets that are both comfortable and stylish.”

“We are excited to collaborate with LG on their newest Bluetooth headset,” said Michael Mauser, executive vice president and president of Harman’s Lifestyle Division. “Harman/Kardon has a 60-year legacy of creating premium audio and ground-breaking sound technologies. When a product carries the Harman/Kardon name, it is confirmation that the device will offer class-leading audio quality and outstanding design.”

LG ENTERS FITNESS WEARABLE MARKET WITH LIFEBAND TOUCH AND HEART RATE EARPHONES

LG Wearable Devices Deliver Superior Performance and Comfort
with Looks to Match

LG’s Lifeband Touch and Heart Rate Earphones.

SEOUL, May 13, 2014 — With an eye on showing consumers that accuracy and comfort should not have to be sacrificed for good looks, LG Electronics (LG) will introduce its first fitness wearable devices to consumers starting this month. LG Lifeband Touch and Heart Rate Earphones offer practical features and the most accurate data collection and analys is currently available, making it easier for wearers to take control of their health. Both devices can be wirelessly connected to most of today’s popular smartphones to create a full-featured wearable ecosystem.

LG Lifeband Touch features a bright, full-touch OLED display that provides easy, real-time access to a full range of fitness data so wearers can track their progress and adjust their workout plans accordingly. Lightweight and simple to use, a unique motion-sensing algorithm automatically turns on the display when wearers rotate their wrists. LG Lifeband Touch features two sensors — a triple-axis accelerometer and an altimeter — that work together to provide the most accurate data in real time. What’s more, LG Lifeband Touch enables users to check incoming calls and messages and control their music playlists on their smartphones, keeping wearers connected while delivering an uninterrupted workout experience.

LG Lifeband Touch is compatible with both Android and iOS operating systems and is designed to work with the LG Fitness app as well as popular fitness apps such as MyFitnessPal, Runkeeper and MapMyFitness. The long-lasting -90mAh battery is good for five days of use between charges. And unlike other wearable fitness devices that are designed to be “one size fits all,” LG Lifeband Touch is available in three different sizes for the most comfortable fit possible.

LG’s Heart Rate Earphones are designed to provide accurate heart rate data by measuring blood flow signals in the ear via PerformTek® sensor technology while also delivering excellent sound. Because of the unique physiology of the ear, wearers can get more accurate health and fitness metrics with LG’s Heart Rate Earphones than with other devices, especially when engaged in physical activity. LG Heart Rate Earphones can be used alone or with LG Lifeband Touch. A separate clip-on medallion contains Bluetooth connectivity which sends data to the Lifeband Touch or a compatible smartphone. When using the LG Fitness App, users can also receive audible status updates informing them of their heart rate and VO2 max(maximal oxygen consumption) levels in real time.

Following its launch in the United States on May 18, LG Lifeband Touch will be rolled out in key markets in Asia and Europe in the days and weeks ahead. Additional details of LG’s new wearable devices will be announced locally when they become available.

SEOUL, May 12, 201— LG Electronics (LG) is adding three new tablets to its G Pad series to offer more options for tablet users. The new G Pad devices — G Pad 7.0, G Pad 8.0 and G Pad 10.1 — will be unveiled at the MedPI 2014, one of the biggest IT/Tech trade show in Europe, taking place in Monaco from May 13-16. LG’s extended tablet portfolio, which also includes the well-received G Pad 8.3, will significantly expand LG’s footprint in the tablet market.

“Customers tell us that they want a wider range of devices that offer sizable screens without compromising portability,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Unlike smartphones, tablets are not one size fits all. So we designed the G Pad series for a diverse target audience, some who prioritize portability while others want the best multimedia experience possible. G Pad delivers on all counts.”

Highlights of LG’s new G Pad series tablets are:

● G Pad 7.0: Designed to be held in one hand, LG’s smallest tablet is an on-the-go entertainment hub that delivers both portability and power.

● G Pad 8.0: With its 8-inch display, LG’s mid-sized tablet offers an immersive multimedia experience and smooth multitasking.

● G Pad 10.1: With the largest display and battery, LG’s 10.1-inch tablet provides endless hours of entertainment and fun.

The latest G Pad tablets will also include LG’s proprietary UX features such as QPair 2.0 and Knock CodeTM. With an updated version of QPair, which was first introduced on G Pad 8.3, users can effortlessly connect to their Android-powered smartphones via Bluetooth to receive notifications of calls and messages and now be able to respond directly from the G Pad. What’s more, Knock Code™ enables users to power on and unlock their LG smartphones in one easy step by entering a personalized “knock” pattern on the smartphone’s display. Knock Code™ offers convenience and greater security as the knock pattern can be entered anywhere on the screen in any size — with the display on or off — using a personalized sequence of two to eight taps for more than 80,000 possible combinations.

LG ROLLS OUT PREMIUM SMART APPLIANCES THAT “CHAT”

Innovative HomeChat™ Service Enables Consumers to Communicate with
LG Premium Smart Appliances Conveniently, Personally

LG’s smart appliances including its Multi-Door refrigerator, top-load washing machine and light wave oven, with a model holding a smartphone with the LG HomeChat™ application open.

SEOUL, May 7, 201— LG Electronics (LG) announced the launch of its premium smart appliances with revolutionary HomeChat™ messaging service in South Korea. HomeChat™ employs Natural Language Processing (NLP) and LINE, the popular mobile messenger app with over 300 million users, to let homeowners communicate, control, monitor and share content with LG’s latest smart appliances. Introducing a whole new level of convenience, the company’s premium smart appliance lineup includes a camera-equipped refrigerator, a washing machine that allows users to start and download washing cycles remotely via HomeChat™ and a Lightwave oven that supports NFC and Wi-Fi for convenient control from any location.

LG HomeChat™ incorporates the popular LINE application to allow users to receive recommendations and control settings when away from home. With an intuitive interface, HomeChat™ makes communicating with LG’s smart refrigerator, washing machine or oven much like chatting with a close friend. For extra convenience, the Quick Button feature enables fast and easy access to each appliance’s commonly used functions. HomeChat™ also gives users the choice of three different modes: Vacation, Away and Return-home. LG’s new service even brings an element of fun to appliances, offering a selection of over 40 unique LINE stickers to add an enjoyable, personal component to conversations.

“Today’s intelligent home appliances offer a variety of useful functions but many consumers still find setting them up a complicated process.” said Seong-jin Jo, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “Not only does LG HomeChat help simplify and enhance our products, they also deliver a unique user experience, adding even more value to our customers’ lives.”

LG Smart Refrigerator

LG’s advanced smart refrigerator incorporates several breakthrough innovations, such as the Smart View feature. Using the industry’s first built-in internal refrigerator camera positioned at the top of the main compartment, users can monitor exactly what’s inside their refrigerator on their smartphones or tablets. The wide angle camera can show content not only in the upper shelves, but also food items on the bottom-most shelf. The built-in camera detects the opening and closing of the refrigerator, capturing images of the food items stored inside when last opened. Using HomeChat™, users can immediately see exactly what they need to buy when they’re at the grocery store or supermarket.

And LG’s Smart Manager feature transforms the refrigerator into a complete food management system. Using the built-in LCD panel or LG Smart Refrigerator smartphone app, users can check the content of their refrigerator without opening the door. The Smart Manager’s Freshness Tracker makes it possible to input a wide range of foods and beverages to keep track of expiration dates. Smart Manager can also recommend meal options based on the ingredients stored in the refrigerator.

LG’s unique Health Manager can make recipe recommendations as well as daily and weekly meal plans based on the user’s personal profile. Age, sex, weight and height information are used to determine body mass index (BMI), which is then used to create an appropriate, personalized meal plan.
LG Smart Washing Machine

With HomeChat™, consumers can remotely control and monitor their LG smart washing machine from outside the home. By texting start washing cycle when they head for home, LG’s smart washing machine will ensure that the laundry is completed by the time they get home. And by texting what are you doing? users can receive real time updates on the washer’s progress. LG’s smart washing machine is equipped with an intuitive smart touch display that makes it easy to select or download appropriate wash cycles via a Wi-Fi connection.

LG SmartLightwaveOven

With HomeChat™ and Recipe Search, homeowners can converse with their smart LG oven to recommend recipes for specific dishes. Select Return-home using HomeChat™ and the smart oven will ask, what dish would you like to make today? and open the Recipe Search window. When ready to cook, the oven will set the oven’s temperature and cooking time for the particular dish. Users can receive alerts on their smartphones when new recipes are available, encouraging family members to try new and interesting dishes.

After its successful launch in Korea, LG plans to introduce the HomeChat™-compatible smart refrigerator, washing machine and oven in other markets including the United States.

A picture of LG Twin Towers in the daytime

SEOUL, Apr. 29, 201— LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced a 319 percent increase in first-quarter net profit compared with the same period last year. First-quarter 2014 net profit rose to KRW 92.60 billion (USD 86.62 million) while operating profit of KRW 504billion (USD 471.47million) marked a significant improvement from the previous quarter due to improved profitability from the LG Home Entertainment Company. Unaudited first quarter consolidated revenues of KRW 14.27 trillion (USD 13.35 billion) increased 1.2 percent compared to the same quarter in 2013.

The LG Home Entertainment Company reported first-quarter revenues of KRW 4.95 trillion (USD 4.63 billion), a 3 percent increase from the first quarter a year ago.Operating profit of KRW 240.30 billion (USD 224.79 million) exceeded expectations due to stronger sales of larger-sized TVs and better cost structure resulting from declining material prices. Revenues are expected to increase in the second quarter with new model launches. LG will continue to diversity its premium Ultra HD TV and OLED TV lineup with more sizes and price levels to offset greater competition.

The LG Mobile Communications Company shipped 12.3 million smartphones in the first quarter — comprising 75 percent of all phones shipped — an increase of 19 percent from the same period the previous year. LG’s shipment of 5 million LTE smartphones was the most ever in a single quarter, an increase of 79 percent year-over-year, accounting for 41 percent of all smartphone shipments in the quarter compared to 27 percent for all of 2013. Revenues of KRW 3.41 trillion (USD 3.19 billion) increased 6 percent year-on-year and operating profit margins rose quarter-on-quarter due to the launch of G Pro 2 in the domestic market and more efficient marketing spending. Higher revenues are expected in the second quarter with the release of the flagship LG G3 smartphone and wider roll-out of the mass-tier L series III.

The LG Home Appliance Company posted strong sales in the Korean market but first-quarter revenue of KRW 2.72 trillion (USD 2.54 billion) was lower year-over-year due to greater competition in North America and unfavorable foreign currency exchange movement in developing markets. Improved cost structure resulted in first-quarter operating profit of KRW 109.20 billion (USD 102.15 million) and a profit margin of 4 percent. Going forward, LG expects revenues for home appliances to increase with the launch of market leading washing machine and refrigerator products.

The LG Air Conditioning & Energy Solution Company reported strong sales of commercial air conditioners in overseas markets with revenues of KRW 1.22 trillion (USD 1.14 billion) in the first quarter and operating profit of KRW 89.8 billion (USD 84 million), an increase of nearly 10 percent from the same period last year. LG expects both revenue and profitability to improve with a greater portion of sales from commercial air conditioners and increasing demand for new products such as dehumidifiers and air purifiers in Korea.
