LG Brings to Market the Future of Television with
Best of Technology and Breathtaking Viewing Experience

Three LG 4K OLED TVs, model 65EC9700 and model 77EG9700, on display.

SEOUL, Aug. 25, 201— LG Electronics (LG) today announced the start of sales of the world’s first OLED TV with 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution. Available in 77- and 65-inch screen sizes (models 77EG9700 and 65EC9700), LG 4K OLED TVs boast the very best display technology currently available — a curved panel composed of organic light-emitting diodes in Ultra HD quality. LG 4K OLED TV, highlights the superiority of OLED over conventional display technology, providing a viewing experience that is nothing short of amazing. Simply put, it is the future of television.

LG 4K OLED TV employs an advanced panel developed by LG Display which features LG’s proprietary Four-Color Pixel WRGB technology. With 33 million sub-pixels working to produce the most lifelike colors and infinite contrast ratio, viewers will feel like they’re watching the real thing. With richer, brighter and more natural hues, the self-lighting pixels also guarantee deeper blacks and its fast response rate helps the TV render motion flawlessly without flickering or blurring.

“LG 4K OLED TV is the pinnacle of technological achievement and a new paradigm that will change the dynamics of the next generation TV market,” said Hyun-hwoi Ha, president and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “As the next evolutionary step in display technology, OLED will play a major role in reshaping our industry. I feel confident when I say that 4K OLED is a bona fide game changer.”

Supported by a flowing, leaf-shaped stand, the slender, curved screen of LG 4K OLED TV is both cinematic and stylish. For installation flexibility, the 65EC9700 and 77EG9700 can also be wall mounted. And LG’s multi-channel ULTRA SURROUND sound system supplies an audio performance that lives up to the TV’s superior picture quality. Designed in cooperation with renowned audio expert Harman Kardon, ULTRA SURROUND creates a rich, detailed environment that heightens the viewer’s sense of immersion.

LG’s 4K OLED TV, which was a Best of Innovations award winner at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), is built around the easy-to-use webOS platform and offers a range of convenient features and functions developed around the core concepts of Simple Connection, Simple Switching and Simple Discovery. webOS was recently recognized by the prestigious European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) for its exceptionally intuitive user interface.

“OLED TVs are expected to overtake LCD in sales within a few years and no company is better prepared for this than LG,” added Mr. Ha. “OLED’s benefits are obvious. There’s no deterioration in picture quality and issues such as image blurring, distortion and color leakage in curved LED units are simply non-existent on curved OLED TVs. 4K OLED TV represents superb value for the consumer in terms of color reproduction, contrast ratio, detail and viewing angles.”

LG will begin taking pre-orders for its 65- and 77-inch 4K OLED TVs starting in Korea this week, with availability in key markets in North America and Europe to follow soon after. Visitors to IFA can see LG’s 4K OLED TVs for themselves by visiting Hall 11.2 of Messe Berlin from September 5-10.

SEOUL, Aug. 22, 201— LG Electronics (LG), in partnership with the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) and the Women’s Baseball Association of Korea (WBAK), will be the title sponsor of the LG Cup International Women’s Baseball Tournament 2014. The inaugural LG Cup 2014 will take place August 22-25 at LG Champions Park in Icheon, South Korea and will feature eight teams from seven countries around the world. Through this tournament, LG, the IBAF and WBAK hope to grow the popularity of women’s baseball and encourage women from all backgrounds to participate in one of the world’s most popular sports.

Women’s baseball has a long and storied history in the annals of sports, with the formation of the first professional female team in 1867 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, two years before the first men’s professional baseball club. Historically, there have been only two international baseball competitions for female players — the Phoenix Cup IBAF Hong Kong International Women’s Baseball Tournament and the Women’s Baseball World Cup, which is held every two years. The LG Cup 2014 provides another much-needed opportunity for women to participate on the world stage at the highest level of competition.

The LG Cup 2014 will host a team from the United States, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, India and two teams from South Korea. The champion will be determined over the course of sixteen games, including group stage and playoff match-ups. Bon-joon Koo, vice chairman and CEO of LG Electronics, and Kwang-hwan Lee, vice chairman of WBAK, will participate in the opening ceremony and commemorate the start of the LG Cup 2014 along with 150 players from around the world.

The LG Cup 2014 exemplifies the company’s desire to expand opportunities for women to succeed and to excel on the global stage. LG has a long history of supporting women’s health and wellness around the world and has even made such sports activities a key component of its Corporate Social Responsibility efforts. In the same spirit, LG is helping to cover the Indian team’s expenses, enabling the 22-member team to make the journey to South Korea to compete as proud representatives of their country.

“LG greatly admires the passion and ability of these women athletes who have continued to pursue a sport even when there was limited support from their own communities,” said LG CEO Koo. “We think it’s important that women continue to have opportunities to participate and succeed in fields that are traditionally off-limits to them. LG is proud to take a leadership role in celebrating women’s achievements, whether that’s in the sports arena, family, or business.”

EXPERIENCE “FLOWING SOUND” WITH SMART HI-FI AUDIO WIRELESS MULTI-ROOM SOLUTION FROM LG

Enjoy High Definition Music Playback Anywhere, Anytime

LG Music Flow Speaker models, H3, H5 and H7, with Soundbar model HS6 and Network Bridge model R1.

SEOUL, Aug. 20, 2014 — LG Electronics (LG) today announced the all-new LG Music Flow for music lovers worldwide. LG Music Flow Speakers (models H3, H5, H7), Soundbar (model HS6), Network Bridge (model R1) and the companion Music Flow Player application for smartphones form a convenient and smart Hi-Fi audio ecosystem for the home. Through the Music Flow Player app, users can centrally manage their entire digital music library, even if music is stored across multiple devices, and control all Music Flow units in the home. The app can also recommend songs and playlists, provide easy access to internet radio stations and function as a smartphone music player when the user is on the go.

LG Music Flow incorporates LG HomeChatTM, a unique service that brings a personal touch to human-device interaction. With HomeChat, users can use the popular smartphone messaging app Line to communicate with LG Music Flow in natural English. What’s more, users can enjoy the speed and simplicity of one-touch music enjoyment thanks to the NFC tag function, the first in a wireless Hi-Fi audio system for the home.

“LG Music Flow takes the fast-growing concept of wireless multi-room audio systems to a new level with its smart convenience and superior sound quality,” said Byung-hoon Min, senior vice president of the LG Home Entertainment Company audio-video division. “Our advanced system can create a personal soundtrack that not only follows the listener from room to room, but also when the user enters the home. LG engineers have set a whole new standard by introducing features and functions to the wireless audio system category that have never been available before on competing units.”

Auto Music Play1 is one of the many compelling features of the new LG Music Flow. With Auto Music Play, users can listen to music outdoors on a smartphone and automatically switch to Music Flow when arriving home. And with HomeChat integration, users can remotely ask LG Music Flow on the way home for song and playlist recommendations suitable for dinner guests arriving later that evening.

Another unique feature, LG Music Flow Player app, gives users full access and complete control of their digital music collections. Through the convenient search feature, music aficionados can find and play tracks stored on any internet-enabled device connected to LG Music Flow through the home Wi-Fi network. The app’s Mood Station feature can provide recommendations or automatically create a playlist to create a certain ambience. LG’s system facilitates easy access to internet streaming and radio applications such as Spotify, Deezer, Napster and TuneIn (services differ by market) via the Audio Streaming Service. With LG Music Flow and the Music Flow Player app, millions of songs are literally at the listener’s fingertips.

LG Music Flow employs mesh network technology and dual band Wi-Fi to ensure uninterrupted, crystal-clear HD music playback unlike competing systems that rely on a single access point which causes music interruptions and pauses whenever the signal level drops. Expanding LG Music Flow with additional speakers is an absolute breeze. Employ Multi-room Mode to seamlessly play the same song across all connected speakers during parties or a different song in each room when family members are home. Use L/R Stereo Mode for a more immersive listening experience or Home Cinema Mode for an enhanced movie viewing experience. Use L/R Stereo Mode for a more immersive listening experience or Home Cinema Mode for an enhanced movie viewing experience.

To guarantee optimal sound performance, LG developed and implemented a proprietary Automatic Loudness Compensation Algorithm in the Music Flow. This advanced software technology ensures audio strength and clarity across all frequencies. In addition, each speaker features an advanced nano-fiber pulp and foam paper diaphragm that further improves the quality of the sound. Unique to the HS6 Soundbar model, LG’s Stereo Field Extension (SFX) Algorithm creates a larger sweet spot and amplifies the surround sound effect.

In recent years, there has been an increase in consumer demand for superior sound in home audio devices as high-quality multimedia content becomes more and more available. LG Music Flow is the first system in its category to feature 24 bit/192kHz Hi-Fi playback across multiple inter-connectable devices that reproduces studio-like quality sound, far superior to a CD or digital MP3 music. Now consumers can hear a level of realism that hasn’t been possible before in a wireless multi-room audio system for the home.

LG Music Flow models H7 (70W), H5 (40W) and the Network Bridge model R1 will be available in the UK starting this month and in other markets in Europe following IFA 2014 Berlin in early September. LG Music Flow with model H3 (30W) and Soundbar model HS6 (320W) will be rolled out globally soon after.

Visitors to IFA 2014 can see the complete LG Music Flow collection for themselves at Hall 11.2 in Messe Berlin in early September. Until then, to see highlights of LG Music Flow’s main features, click on this video link — http://youtu.be/DxdNmA0JoSQ.

LG G3 UX TREATMENT TO BECOME STANDARDIZED ACROSS MID- TO ENTRY-LEVEL SMARTPHONES AND TABLETS

Simplified Camera and Updated Smart Keyboard

to Enhance LG’s Mobile Product Lineup

Fronts of various LG Smartphones and even tablets showing LG G3 UX’s features.

SEOUL, Aug. 19, 2014 — From entry-level to premium, LG has been actively working to provide a consistent and uniform user experience (UX) across its entire mobile product lineup. Toward that end, LG Electronics (LG) will begin standardizing its proprietary UX features, first introduced in the new LG G3, across most of the company’s mid- to entry-level smartphones and tablets launched in the second half of this year.

Since its worldwide unveiling in May, the LG G3’s UX features have been positively received by both customers and industry experts with many bestowing high praise for its user-friendly enhancements. The 2014 Red Dot Communication Design Award judges also applauded the LG G3, with a total of three “Best of the Best” awards for its intuitive UX features.

“With the basic principles of the G3’s UX features rooted in making complex technologies simple and convenient, our goal was to provide consumers with a user experience they genuinely need and want,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Standardizing these features across our entry- and mid-tier mobile products is just a natural extension of our desire to make every LG device feel premium and unique.”

A simplified camera displaying only the most frequently used menus is one of the UX features that will be standardized across mid- and entry-level LG smartphones. One of the key camera features is Touch & Shoot, which helps capture special moments quickly and intuitively by letting users tap anywhere on the display to focus and trigger the shutter in one single step, eliminating a time-consuming two-step process. Gesture Shot makes taking selfies simple and fun. Opening and closing one’s hand in front of the lens starts a three-second countdown before triggering the shutter for brilliant, blur-free selfies. Clean View offers a full, clutter-free preview interface by removing all camera menu icons from the screen.

Another UX feature to be standardized is Smart Keyboard, which reduces input error by up to 75 percent by tracking and analyzing typing habits and intuitively “knowing” what words the user intended to type. The keyboard can be re-sized to better fit the user’s hands and thumbs. Suggested words, which appear above the keyboard, can be entered with just an upward flick of the thumb. Individual keys can be customized with frequently used symbols for even faster input. Long-pressing the space bar and sliding the thumb or finger left and right repositions the cursor for faster editing.

With 7,096 entries from 49 countries in the Communication Design category alone, the Red Dot Awards is one of the three most important competitions in the design industry, alongside iF Design Award and IDEA (International Design Excellence Award).

With more than 80,000 possible tap sequences to choose from, Knock Code™ is not only more secure, it’s more convenient.

The LG G3’s GUI provides an intuitive, more enjoyable, user experience. Redesigned from the ground up, the GUI features a clean, stylish appearance that adopts LG’s new flat and simple design language in sophisticated pastel colors with a distinctive circular motif consistent with the company’s iconic logo.

“The Red Dot Design Awards for excellence in user interface carry a great deal of meaning for us because enhancing the user experience is how we create value for the customer,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, LG’s Chief Technology Officer. “LG’s advanced capabilities in user experience come from a willingness to listen, learn and form a deep understanding of how people are using technology on a daily basis. “Many people spend more time in front of computer monitors than they do in front of TV sets and yet the industry’s biggest monitor manufacturers don’t seem to innovate at the same pace as TV manufacturers,” said Hyoung-sei Park, head of the IT Business Division at LG Electronics’ Home Entertainment Company. “At LG, innovation in display technologies isn’t just limited to our market-leading TV products but are actively being implemented in our advanced PC monitors. And that’s why we’re particularly proud to be introducing at IFA the world’s first 21:9 Curved UltraWide monitor with a curved IPS display which delivers a wide 178-degree viewing angle for an immersive viewing experience.”

LG’s next generation advanced PC monitors will be on display at IFA 2014 in Hall 11.2 of Messe Berlin from September 5-10.

SEOUL, Aug. 14, 2014 — In an effort to expand its leadership in LTE from smartphones to tablets, LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled an LTE version of the G Pad 8.0, offering blazing fast outdoor connectivity and portability for on-the-go media consumption. The LG G Pad 8.0 LTE offers the right balance of performance and price competitiveness and comes preloaded with the best of the LG G3 smartphone’s premium user experience (UX), delivering smooth multitasking capabilities and an immersive multimedia experience.

The LG G Pad 8.0 LTE includes a unique sync feature that delivers easy connectivity with other Android devices. With QPair 2.0, users can connect to their smartphones with Bluetooth to conveniently answer phone calls, receive notifications, and send text messages, directly from their LG tablet.

Other noteworthy features in the LG G Pad 8.0 LTE include:

■ Touch & Shoot helps capture special moments quickly and intuitively by letting users tap anywhere on the G Pad display to focus and trigger the shutter in one single step, eliminating a time-consuming two-step process.

■ Gesture Shot makes taking selfies simple and fun. Opening and closing one’s hand in front of the lens starts a three-second countdown before triggering the shutter for brilliant, blur-free selfies.

■ Smart Keyboard makes typing on an 8-inch tablet display just as easy as typing on a smartphone. Smart Keyboard reduces input errors by up to 75 percent by tracking and analyzing typing habits and intuitively “knowing” what words the user intended to type.

■ Knock Code, LG’s proprietary security feature that makes powering on and unlocking one fluid action, gives up to four users their own personal knock pattern so family members can share the LG G Pad without sharing their personal information.

“With the G Pad 8.0 LTE, LG is setting a higher standard for connectivity in emerging 4G markets,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Today’s on-the-go consumers demand speed and convenience wherever they are, at any time. If a 4G LTE infrastructure is in place, we want LG products to be first to take advantage of the fast network.”

The G Pad 8.0 LTE will begin shipping in key European countries starting this week followed by markets in Central and South America, Asia and CIS in the weeks to follow.

LG ANNOUNCES START OF SALES OF 105 INCH 21:9 CURVED ULTRA HD TV

With 5K Resolution and CinemaScope 21:9 Aspect Ratio,

LG’s Latest TV Redefines Immersive Viewing

A side view of LG 105-inch CURVED ULTRA HD TV

SEOUL, July 29, 2014 — First shown to the public at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January, the 105-inch CURVED ULTRA HD TV from LG Electronics (LG) became available for pre-orders this week in South Korea. With a resolution of over 11 million pixels (5120 x 2160) and CinemaScope 21:9 aspect ratio, LG’s model 105UC9 TV delivers a truly immersive viewer experience with ultra-sharp, lifelike images and stunning virtual surround sound.

The LG CURVED ULTRA HD TV’s cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio LCD screen features 11 million pixels, five times more than on a Full HD TV. With such a high pixel density, images are rendered with a sharpness and clarity that has to be seen to be believed. The 105UC9 achieves its superior picture quality through LG’s True 4K Engine Pro and IPS 4K Panel. True 4K Engine Pro eliminates visual errors and can upscale lower-resolution content into near-Ultra HD quality while the IPS 4K Panel provides consistent contrast, true-to-life colors and a wide viewing angle.

“The vision behind LG’s 105-inch 21:9 CURVED ULTRA HD TV was to bring the movie theater into the living room,” said In-kyu Lee, senior vice president and head of the TV Division at LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “Featuring a curved 5K CinemaScope screen and a 7.2 channel speaker system, the 105UC9 is LG’s most spectacular ULTRA HD TV yet. This product pushes the envelope in home entertainment innovation and demonstrates what is possible when you bring today’s most advanced TV technologies together.”

LG’s TV also delivers incredible audio through a built-in 7.2 channel, 150W sound system. Incorporating LG’s ULTRA Surround concept and developed in partnership with premium audio products manufacturer Harman Kardon, the speaker array produces a powerful and rich audio experience. The multi-channel system complements the TV’s 21:9 CinemaScope screen with a sonic performance worthy of an actual movie theater.

With the same aspect ratio as a Hollywood motion picture, the 105UC9 CinemaScope 21:9 screen recreates the movie experience in the home. The curvature of the display has been carefully calibrated to maximize the immersive ambiance. What’s more, when viewing programs in 16:9 format, the unused screen space on the sides can display additional information or programming details to enhance the viewing experience.

The 105UC9 ensures an immensely satisfying user experience via LG Smart+TV, which is centered on the intuitive webOS platform. LG’s webOS makes everything simple and fast, whether it’s switching between content, discovering exciting new shows, apps and services, or connecting to media stored on external devices. And with the help of the friendly, animated BeanBird character, webOS also makes the initial setup and connection process quicker and a lot more enjoyable. And by combining Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) 3D technology with extremely high picture resolution, LG’s 4K 3D+ feature offers unobtrusive and compelling 3D viewing pleasure. And thanks to the 4K 3D Upscaler, content in SD, HD and Full HD is converted into crystal-clear, near-Ultra HD resolution.

The LG 105UC9 will be rolled out in other markets from the fourth quarter. Prices and exact dates of availability will be announced locally.

LG ELECTRONICS’ STRONG QUARTERLY RESULTS REFLECT TURNAROUND OF MOBILE BUSINESS

Success of LG G3 Contributes to Record Smartphone Shipments in Quarter

A picture of LG Twin Towers in the daytime

SEOUL, July 24, 201— LG Electronics Inc. (LG) announced a 165 percent increase in second-quarter net profit compared with the same period last year, reflecting strong earnings from both the TV and mobile operations. LG reported second-quarter 2014 net profit of KRW 412 billion (USD 399.8 million) and operating profit of KRW 606 billion (USD 588.5million), an increase of 26.5 percent year-over-year. Unaudited second quarter consolidated revenues of KRW 15.37 trillion (USD 14.93 billion) increased 7.7 percent from the previous quarter.

The LG Home Entertainment Company saw steady performance with second-quarter revenues of KRW 5.09 trillion (USD 4.94 billion), a 3 percent increase quarter-over-quarter and almost unchanged from the same quarter 2013. Operating profit of KRW 154.5 billion (USD 150 million) was an increase of 64.9 percent from the same quarter last year as a result of better product mix and lower fixed costs. Demand for Ultra HD TVs in key markets will continue to drive LCD TV revenue growth. The B2B market, led by monitors and digital signage, also is expected to contribute to LG’s growth in this segment.

The LG Mobile Communications Company shipped a record-high 14.5 million smartphones in the second quarter, a 20 percent increase year-over-year with LTE products accounting for more than one-third of all LG smartphones sold this year. As a result, sales increased 16 percent from the same period last year to KRW 3.62 trillion (USD 3.51 billion), the highest since the first quarter of 2010. The mobile division’s operating profit of KRW 85.9 billion (USD 83.4 million) in the second quarter put an end to three consecutive quarters of losses. Much of the success was due to the initial popularity of the LG G3 in the Korean market and strong sales of L SeriesIII smartphones. LG plans to continue its global rollout of the G3 and introduce more mass tier products in the second half, including variations of the LG G3, such as the recently announced G3 Beat, and additional L Series models.

The LG Home Appliance Company reported strong sales in the Korean market with sales increasing 9 percent from the same quarter the previous year. Second-quarter revenue of KRW 3.03 trillion (USD 2.94 billion) was 5 percent lower compared with the same period last year due to unfavorable foreign currency exchange movement especially in developing markets. An improvement in cost structure resulted in the LG Home Appliance Company recording operating profit of KRW 97.8 billion (USD 95.0 million) and profit margin of 3.2 percent. LG expects revenues and profitability for home appliances to increase in the second half due to the launch of market-leading washing machine and refrigerator products and the effect of cost reductions.

The LG Air Conditioning & Energy Solution Company recorded steady sales of commercial air conditioners and new products such as dehumidifiers with revenues of KRW 1.64 trillion (USD 1.59 billion) and operating profit of KRW 164.2 billion (USD 159.4 million) in the second quarter. Despite slightly lower revenues than the same period last year, an improved product mix resulted in a profit margin of 10 percent in the second quarter, and second-half results are expected to benefit from increased demand in the Middle East, rollout of additional variable refrigerant flow (VRF) air conditioning products and stronger cost competitiveness in commercial air conditioners.

2014 2Q Exchange Rates Explained

LG Electronics’ unaudited quarterly earnings results are based on IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) for the three-month period ending June 30, 2014. Amounts in Korean won (KRW) are translated into U.S. dollars (USD) at the average rate of the three-month period of the corresponding quarter — KRW 1,030 per USD (2014 2Q).

A front view of the G3 with QuickCircleTM Case in Silk White color showing the start screen of a game through the open window.

SEOUL, July 23, 2014 — Proving that QuickCircleTM can be as much about fun as function, LG Electronics (LG) today introduced the world’s first mobile game developed exclusively for its windowed LG G3 case. Now in addition to being able to check the time, place calls and take photos without opening the cover, LG G3 owners with the QuickCircleTM Case can now have a bit of fun on-the-go with a free game, Puppy Pop.

Puppy Pop is a match-three puzzle game developed by LG specifically for the G3 with QuickCircleTM Case to be played through the open window on the cover. Players accumulate points by drawing lines through three or more identical puppies, removing as many from the board before time runs out. Scores can then be shared on the player’s favorite social network site.

A fun and unique way to experience the QuickCircleTM Case, Puppy Pop also represents LG’s continuing effort to develop mobile content that enhances the functionality of its products. Puppy Pop is an example of the versatility and flexibility of the LG QCircle software development kit (SDK) available at developer.lge.com for developers to create new applications and functions for the QuickCircleTM Case.

Puppy Pop will be free to download from Google Play Store (play.google.com) starting on July 23.
