SEOUL, Sep. 17, 2013 — LG Electronics (LG’s) will kick off its 2013 LG Home Chef Championship (LG-HCC) this week to find the world’s best amateur chefs. Interested parties from participating countries[1] are encouraged to submit their creative recipes to www.lgcooking.com for a chance to win an LG Lightwave Convection Oven and the opportunity to compete in the LG-HCC final cook-off in Cape Town, South Africa on December 4.

 

Held every year since 2008, LG’s Home Chef Championship has brought together contestants from diverse cities such as Istanbul, Santiago, Bangkok, Dubai and Seoul to turn their dreams into reality. Unlike most culinary competitions which are geared towards professional chefs, the annual LG-HCC is open to only amateur food enthusiasts. As a new component to this year’s competition, LG will donate USD 5 to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) for every recipe submitted and USD 1 for every recipe shared via Facebook.

 

“For the past five years, the LG Home Chef Championship has given amateur chefs a chance to shine on a global stage and experience the outstanding features and performance of LG’s cooking appliances,” said Seong-jin Jo, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “We hope this year’s social media component to benefit WFP will get even more aspiring chefs to participate and in turn, contribute financially to a cause that we believe in very strongly here at LG.”

 

Winners of the best recipes from each participating country will receive LG Lightwave Convection Ovens and tickets to Cape Town to take part in the cook-off finals. The winner of the Cape Town finals will receive USD 10,000 worth of gift vouchers and the title of  “Grand Master Home Chef” while runners-up will receive USD 5,000 in gift vouchers and “Master Home Chef” certificates.

 

Winners will be evaluated on the following five categories:

  • – Menu Presentation — aesthetics and taste;
  • – Menu Recipe — how well a dish reflects local culinary traditions and use of widely available ingredients;
  • – Healthy Cooking — creativity, nutritional balance and minimal food waste;
  • – Work Plan — accuracy and detail of cooking instructions;
  • – Compatibility with Lightwave Convection Oven — ease with which the recipe can be adapted to LG’s Lightwave Convection Oven.

 

WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. Last year, WFP reached more than 97 million people in 80 countries with food assistance. LG Electronics has been a partner in WFP’s global work to eradicate hunger since 2009.

AMSTERDAM, Sep. 13, 2013 — LG Electronics (LG), one of South Korea’s largest set-top box providers, will display its comprehensive lineup of set-top boxes (STB) at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC), Europe’s largest annual broadcast industry trade show. LG will exhibit a total of 12 set-top box offerings, including its ULTRA HD STB and Smart Box based on the Android platform, at the five-day event.

This impressive new STB has a built-in 60p High Efficiency Video Compression (HEVC) decoder that reduces bandwidth requirements by more than 50 percent. LG introduced the world’s first Android TV set-top boxin October last year and is currently the only manufacturer to have passed Google’s strict Compatibility Test Suite (CTS) evaluation process. LG’s Android-powered STB provides users with all the benefits of the Android TV platform such as Google Services, Google Play, Google Search and the Chrome web browser. BERLIN, Sep. 9, 2013 At IFA 2013 in Berlin, the chief executive of LG’s Home Entertainment Company revealed that the company will expand the global rollout of its OLED TVs to several markets throughout Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and the CIS region before the end of the year. Moreover, the company’s 55- and 65-inch ULTRA HD TVs — the first ever models to be equipped with HEVC decoders — will be launched in 50 countries this year and LG will expand its strategic cooperative efforts with broadcasters and other partners to accelerate the growth of ULTRA HD content.

Market Dominance via Expanded OLED TV Rollout

LG marked another milestone by unveiling world’s largest ULTRA HD OLED TV at IFA. Spanning a total of 77 inches diagonally, the massive curved screen fills the viewer’s field of vision more completely than a flat-screen TV. The ULTRA HD CURVED OLED TV combines LG’s exceptional WRGB OLED and ULTRA HD technologies, enabling it to produce infinite contrast ratio and resolution four times greater than regular FULL HD. LG will introduce its advanced ULTRA HD OLED TV technology to consumers in 2014.

 

Consumers can already experience LG’s innovative OLED TVs in South Korea, the United States and Europe. The washing machines boast LG’s proprietary 6 Motion Direct Drive and TrueSteam™ technologies, ensuring powerful and hygienic washing performance. LG’s 12kg big capacity washing machines are 40 percent more energy efficient than other LG A+++ washing machines. Moreover, LG’s new washer-dryers equipped with innovative Eco-Hybrid technology offer a new Air-drying system in addition to normal drying modes. Each finely tuned setting has been optimized to achieve energy efficiency with water or time saving.

LG’s advanced 6 Motion Direct Drive motor uses a combination of six different motions to deliver customized washes for various types of clothes with fewer wrinkles and less damage. In addition, thanks to the Inverter Direct Drive motor, LG washers perform quietly and reliably. LG backs the durability and reliability of its Inverter Direct Drive motor with a 10-year warranty while VDE[1], Germany’s scientific and technical association, evaluated and certified that the Inverter Direct Drive had a lifespan of 22 years.

 

LG’s front–load washing machine also incorporates the unique TrueSteam™ technology, which includes the Steam Refresh function. Instead of water, steam is used to remove wrinkles and odors from clothes in just 20 minutes, leaving deep clean results. A Smart Refrigerator to Revolutionize Food Management

Built around the company’s signature Inverter Linear Compressor, LG’s smart refrigerator is equipped with a full range of smart technologies. First among them is Smart Manager, which transforms the refrigerator into a complete food management system. Customers can use the LCD panel or their smartphones to check what’s inside without opening the door. With the Smart Manager’s Freshness Tracker, users can input various foods and check their expiration dates. Additionally, the Smart Manager recommends dishes to cook based on which ingredients are available in the refrigerator.

The Smart Access feature lets users check the status of their LG appliances via a smartphone, wherever they may be. So rather than keeping track of a cumbersome shopping list, LG smart refrigerator owners can simply call up a list of what’s in their kitchen fridge directly from the supermarket on their iOS or Android phones through the LG Smart Refrigerator app.

Smart Shopping[1] is another new feature of Smart Manager that enables online grocery shopping directly from the refrigerator’s LCD panel. Items can be automatically purchased when current supplies are running low or they can be selected and ordered manually. Smart Shopping eliminates the need to ever visit a supermarket again, saving time, gas and increasing convenience.

LG’s unique Health Manager1 feature recommends individual recipes, as well as daily and weekly meal plans, based on the owner’s personal profile. The user’s age, gender, weight and height as well as information such as allergies are entered into the database to create an appropriate, personalized meal plan.

LG’s Smart Diagnosis™ has undergone an impressive upgrade, allowing LG’s smart products to better self-assess problems and inform the user. Through a Wi-Fi connection, NFC tagging and audible diagnosis alerts, the owner is quickly made aware of any minor issues such as when the ice maker is turned off, which helps limit costly, inconvenient service calls and in-home visits by customer service.

Using Wi-Fi, NFC tagging and audible diagnosis, LG’s Smart Diagnosis™ alerts the user of technical issues, while the Smart Adapt feature makes it possible to download washing cycle courses— such as Baby Wear or Air-Refresh — via smartphone or directly from the washing machine’s LCD panel. Users can then monitor the status of the smart washing machine and select options via a smartphone or an LG smart TV.

Smart Access keeps owners in touch with their washing machine regardless of their location. Homeowners no longer need to worry when leaving the house with the washer running as Smart Access makes it possible to monitor its status wirelessly. Functions and settings can be remotely adjusted and pop-up messages appear on the user’s smartphone or LG smart TV when a wash or dry cycle has been completed. The Washing Coach Function guides consumers on how much detergent is necessary for optimal results and notifies the user when it’s time to clean the drum. Ideal for beginners, the One Touch Washing function simplifies the task of doing laundry, allowing users to select what type of clothes are being washed via a smartphone app. Using NFC, LG’s washing machine then automatically sets the washing options and appropriate course.

 

A Smarter Oven for Smarter Cooking
LG’s Smart Oven comes equipped with Smart Access, Smart Adapt and Smart Diagnosis™, which opens up a whole new range of smarter cooking possibilities. With a Wi-Fi connection, home chefs can monitor the status of their ovens, search for recipes and set cooking modes. Even without Wi-Fi, NFC gives users the ability to program the oven for a particular recipe as well as diagnose a problem using their mobile devices. Moreover, while the normal cooking process involves having to manually set the cooking mode, temperature and time, this process can simply be achieved with a smartphone through the One Touch Cooking setting. And because many European homes have closed kitchens making it difficult to know when dishes are done, owners can be notified when their food is done while watching their favorite shows on an LG smart TV.

LG’s washing machine was recognized for meeting strict water evaluation methods set by the DNV for the entire lifecycle of the product, including manufacturing, distribution, usage and disposal.

SEOUL, Sep. 2, 2013 — LG Electronics (LG) will unveil its newest OLED product, GALLERY OLED TV (Model 55EA8800) at IFA 2013 in Berlin, Germany. A stylish addition to the company’s next generation TV lineup, the new model features an elegantly understated frame that incorporates the powerful yet unobtrusive Canvas Speaker. The unique design and impressive audio capabilities of the GALLERY OLED TV complement LG’s industry leading OLED TV lineup. As the first wall-mountable 55-inch OLED TV ever produced, the GALLERY OLED TV is an eye-catching statement of LG’s excellence in television technology and design.

Stylish Picture Frame with Canvas Speakers

Like a priceless painting, the 55EA8800’s stunning 55-inch screen is bordered by an aesthetically pleasing frame. More than just an attractive design detail, the frame conceals a 2.2 channel sound system that features LG’s new Canvas Speakers. Cleverly disguised within a faux art mat, the forward-facing Canvas Speakers enhance the viewing experience with rich, full-bodied audio. In keeping with the artistic theme, Gallery Mode enables the user to view high-resolution digital images of paintings by legendary artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin. Gallery Mode also makes it possible to watch a slide show of one’s favorite personal or family photos.

Ultimate Picture Quality

Earlier this year, LG captured the attention of consumers, the media and the home entertainment industry by being the first company to commercially launch both the 55-inch OLED TV and the 55-inch CURVED OLED TV. The company’s groundbreaking OLED TVs employ proprietary WRGB technology, which incorporates an additional white sub-pixel, guaranteeing the sharpest, most lifelike images. LG’s incredibly slim and lightweight OLED TVs offer an impressively wide viewing angle, ensuring perfect picture quality regardless of the viewer’s position.

GALLERY OLED TV will be launched this month in Germany with other markets to follow.
