LG UNVEILS NEW PRODUCTS AND NEW GOALS AT MWC

LG to Strengthen Global Branding with Unique Consumer-Centric Features

and Two-Tier Focus on Premium and Entry-Level Smartphones

Models hold the LG G Pro 2, G2 mini and L Series III

BARCELONA, Feb. 23, 2014 — With two new G Series smartphones, the third generation L SeriesIII and impressive new UX features, LG Electronics (LG) announced prior to the start of Mobile World Congress (MWC) the company’s intention to expand its user base in 2014 with compelling products designed to meet the user requirements of a global audience. Coming off a successful 2013 where the company introduced much talked-about devices such as the G2, Nexus 5 and G Flex, LG is confident that its product strategy for 2014 will continue to show strong returns.

“It has become increasingly important for LG to not only deliver the best mobile experiences possible to our customers, but also to ensure that those experiences are consistent across all our devices,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “As far as smartphones have come in recent years, we should not lose sight of the fact that less than a quarter of the world’s consumers are smartphone users. That’s why our product lineup in 2014 will include devices with a unique user experience that appeal to a wider spectrum of consumers.”

In addition to its newest devices, LG’s emphasis on introducing premium UX features, such as Knock CodeTM, will continue to be a priority as a way to more clearly differentiate LG smartphones from the competition. First announced in the G Pro 2, Knock Code, allows users to power on and unlock their smartphones with simple “knocks” on the screen. This year, Knock Code will be a core offering on a wide range of LG global smartphones as part of the company’s strategy to offer a consistent and unique user experience.

Knock CodeTM : Security and Convenience in One

With recent research data showing that users unlock their smartphones more than 100 times a day, LG clearly saw this as an opportunity where it could add value. Knock Code, which evolved from the KnockON feature first introduced in LG G2, enables users to both power on and unlock their LG smartphone in one easy step by tapping a personalized pattern on the phone’s screen. Knock Code offers greater security as the pattern is entered on a blank screen using anywhere from two to eight taps, allowing for more than 80,000 possible combinations. What’s more, Knock Code can be entered on any part of the display, making one-handed entry effortless and convenient. A number of previously released LG smartphones will also receive Knock Code firmware updates as well.

LG G Pro 2: Sequel Offers Richer, Fuller Experience

The G Pro 2 is a successor to the G Pro, last year’s winner of the Best Smartphone of MWC 2013 award. The G Pro 2 is more than just a worthy successor to the original G Pro. With a bold 5.9-inch Full HD IPS display, the latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS and a host of best-in-class technologies, G Pro 2 boasts an immersive viewing experience and is the first LG smartphone to offer an enhanced 13MP camera with Optical Image Stabilizer Plus (OIS+) technology. Photography buffs will appreciate the G Pro 2’s advanced picture and video editing functions.

LG G2 mini: Powerful and Compact

As LG’s first “compact” smartphone, the G2 mini delivers much of the same user experience of the original LG G2 with premium UX features such as Knock Code and Guest Mode. The G2 mini is designed to appeal to a new generation of smartphone owners with its 4.7-inch IPS display, 2,440mAh battery life and a Quad-Core processor that doesn’t sacrifice speed for size. LG’s newest G Series device offers the perfect balance of modern design and practical UX in a compact package without compromising performance.

LG LIII Series: Where 3G Meets Style

LG’s L SeriesI and L SeriesII have enjoyed tremendous success worldwide. The new L SeriesIII is expected to continue the momentum of LG’s L Series, particularly in fast growing emerging markets. The L40, L70 and L90 smartphones reinforce the family’s stylish design heritage, boasting delicate finishing, metallic colors and narrow bezels. The L SeriesIII also comes with the latest Android KitKat OS and premium UX features to deliver the best experience the 3G segment has to offer. The new L SeriesIII is a key component of LG’s strategy to expand its share of new smartphone users in markets that will determine tomorrow’s mobile leaders.

Kicking off in Middle East and Africa (MEA) on February 12, the travelling roadshow will also take in dates across Europe in March and Asia in April.

LG InnoFest, an annual event now in its second year, represents a crucial platform for reinforcing LG’s position in the global consumer electronics and appliance industries, as well as responding to local market needs under LG’s brand identity theme, “It’s All Possible.” At this year’s inaugural InnoFest event, hundreds of channel partners gathered in Istanbul, Turkey — a city situated at the crossroads of eastern and western cultures — to see firsthand LG’s 2014 lineup of TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners and smartphones.

Flagship products which took the spotlight at InnoFest were LG’s77-inch ULTRA HD CURVED OLED TV, 105-inch CURVED ULTRA HD TV, G Flex curved smartphone and appliances for 2014 including refrigerators, washing machines as well as advanced cooking and cleaning products. LG’S NEWEST G SERIES DEVICE LG G PRO 2 UNVEILED IN KOREAN MARKET

Successor to “Best Smartphone of MWC 2013” to Make Global Debut at MWC 2014

A front view of LG G Pro 2 in white color.

SEOUL, Feb. 13, 2014 — Today LG Electronics (LG) introduced the LG G Pro 2, its follow-up to the award-winning G Pro, to the Korean public. Much like last year’s G Pro, which was recognized as the Best Smartphone of MWC 2013, the G Pro 2 comes equipped with a state-of-the-art display and new UX features to take user convenience to the next level.

With a stunning 5.9-inch Full HD IPS display and extra slim bezel of 3.3mm, the G Pro 2 offers an industry-leading screen-to-frame ratio of 77.2 percent. A thicker, high-power 1W Hi-Fi sound that’s 30 percent louder than in the G Pro delivers clearer sound with more powerful bass. And to simplify the powering on and unlocking process, LG engineers developed a completely unique feature called Knock Code™ which makes unlocking and using the G Pro 2 easier and more convenient than ever before.

“Knock Code is an example of LG bringing simpler, more convenient solutions to consumers’ mobile lives,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Whereas in the early years of smartphones it was a contest to see how many features could be stuffed into the phones, our researchers took a long, hard look at how consumers were really using their devices in their daily lives and included just the most useful UX features. We think customers will agree.”

An evolution of the popular KnockON feature that was first unveiled last year in the LG G2, Knock Code allows owners to power on and unlock their G Pro 2 smartphones in one easy step by tapping their screens using one of 86,367 “knock” combinations. Thanks to LG’s intelligent algorithm and advanced hardware, the knock pattern can be entered on any area of the screen — whether the display is turned on or off — using anywhere from two to eight taps.

The G Pro 2 is the first LG smartphone to benefit from an enhanced 13MP camera with OIS+ (Optical Image Stabilizer Plus) and advanced functions ideal for creating sharing content. LG’s proprietary OIS+ technology adds software anti-shake functionality to the acclaimed hardware-based feature already built into the slim camera module for the best photos and videos possible when in motion or in low light situations. What’s more, the sensors and lens of the rear and front camera on the G Pro 2 have increased in both size and sensitivity, for images that rival many standalone point-and-shoot cameras. Some of the other advanced image capturing features built into the G Pro 2 are:

120FPS HD Video Recording and Slow-Motion Editing: Records in 120fps HD and allows editing of video in three different speeds — one-half slow motion, one-fourth slow motion and original

● 4K ULTRA HD Recording: Records video footage in ultra-high definition mode for playback on 4K TV sets

● Magic Focus: After the shot is taken, the user has the option to select the preferred depth of focus before saving. Users could also press the ‘All in Focus’ icon to set focus on all spots of the picture.

● Natural Flash: Offers a much more balanced color temperature and exposure compared to the normal flash, which results in a most natural image just as it is in real life.

● Flash for Selfie: Reduces the size of the preview screen and adds a bright white background for more “soft” lighting in self-portrait mode

● Burst Shot: Takes up to 20 continuous shots and automatically edits them to create a video of the captured images

Gallery Collage: Allows users to select photos from their gallery to create a collage for easy uploading to favorite social network sites

In addition to the latest components, the G Pro 2 also boasts a collection of upgraded features that complements today’s mobile lifestyle where much of the information we need is in the palm of our hands or in our back pockets. Some of these new UX features include:

● Content Lock: Provides users more security with the ability to lock files, photos, videos and memos with a unique password

● Mini View: Enables users to comfortably use the G Pro 2 with one hand by shrinking the display to a size ranging from 3.4 inches to 4.7 inches, depending on the user’s preference

● Dual Browser: Divides the expansive screen into two separate browser windows for more convenient surfing

Availability of G Pro 2 in markets outside of Korea has not yet been determined but attendees to the 2014 Mobile World Congress can experience the G Pro 2 and its features firsthand at LG’s Booth in Hall 3 of Fira Gran Via.

Operating Income Increases for all Business Units Year-on-Year

A picture of LG Twin Towers in the daytime

SEOUL, Jan. 27, 2014 — LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced consolidated revenues of KRW 58.14 trillion (USD 53.10 billion) and net profit of KRW 222.70 billion (USD 203.65 million) for full-year 2013, marking an improvement over 2012 results. Operating profits increased modestly in 2013 to KRW 1.28 trillion (USD 1.17 billion) from KRW 1.22 trillion (USD 1.08 billion) in full-year 2012.

Fourth-quarter 2013 consolidated revenues were KRW 14.92 trillion (USD 14.03 billion) with an operating profit of KRW 238.1 billion (USD 223.89 million). Unaudited consolidated financial results for the fourth quarter ending Dec. 31, 2013 showed a net loss of KRW 63.5 billion (USD 60.21 million) primarily due to higher non-operating expense as a result of FX movements.

The LG Home Entertainment Company reported an 18 percent revenue increase quarter-on-quarter to KRW 5.93 trillion (USD 5.58 billion) and full-year operating profit of KRW 404.80 billion (USD 369.86 million). Despite higher demand for LCD TVs in North America, Asia and CIS countries, full-year revenue declined by 5 percent from the previous year. Operating profit margins increased each quarter in 2013 due to a stronger product mix that included more high-end models such as OLED TVs and Ultra HDTVs, which are expected to see strengthening demand in 2014.

The LG Mobile Communications Company reported a 29 percent increase in annual revenues to KRW 12.97 trillion (USD 11.85 billion) year-on-year and an 18 percent increase in fourth-quarter revenues to 3.59 trillion (USD 3.38 billion) quarter-on-quarter with help from stronger LTE smartphone sales such as G2 and Nexus 5. Smartphone shipments of 13.2 million units represented an increase of 54 percent from the previous year. The positive impact of improved product mix was offset by higher marketing investments to strengthen LG’s brand equity and intensified price competition.

The LG Home Appliance Company posted sales of KRW 2.84 trillion (USD 2.67 billion) in the fourth quarter, down 4 percent from the same period the previous year but full-year revenues increased by 5 percent from 2012. Stronger sales in North America and China were offset by slower growth in developing markets such as India, Central and South America. Profitability in the fourth quarter of 2013 improved year-on-year to KRW 83.40 billion (USD 78.08 million) as a result of improved cost structure and stronger sales of products with high profitability. In 2014, demand for LG appliances is expected to increase in developed markets such as North America and Europe as economic conditions continue to improve.

The LG Air Conditioning & Energy Solutions Company reported sales of KRW 719.70 billion (USD 677.33 million) in the fourth quarter of 2013, an increase of 8 percent from the same period in 2012, primarily due to the growth of commercial air-conditioner system sales in overseas markets. For full-year 2013, the company reported revenues of KRW 4.64 trillion (USD 4.24 billion), 8 percent higher year-on-year, and operating profit of KRW 279.50 billion (USD 255.71 million). Demand for commercial air conditioners with high-energy efficiency and inverter-type residential units are expected to help drive further profitability improvements for LG in 2014.

2014 Business Direction

For 2014, LG Electronics is targeting a revenue goal of KRW 62.30 trillion with plans to spend KRW 3 trillion in capital expenditures.

2013 4Q Exchange Rates Explained

All information regarding management performance and financial results of LG Electronics during the fourth quarter of 2013 has been prepared on a consolidated basis in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Starting from January 1, 2013, LG Electronics has accounted LG Innotek as a consolidated subsidiary pursuant to the enactment of Korea-International Financial Reporting Standards (K-IFRS) 1001, “Consolidated Financial Statements.” The comparative consolidated financial data are restated accordingly. Amounts in Korean won (KRW) are converted into U.S. dollars (USD) at the average rate of the three month period in each corresponding quarter: KRW 1,063 per USD (2013 4Q) and KRW 1,091 per USD (2012 4Q). LG ELECTRONICS HOME ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY AIMS TO LEAD OLED AND ULTRA HD TV SEGMENTS

LG Changes the Dynamics of TV Market with
OLED TV, ULTRA HD TV and webOS Smart TV Products

LG HE Company president and CEO, Hyun-hwoi Ha, announcing that LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company is changing the dynamics of the TV market.

LAS VEGASJan. 8, 2014 — The newly installed president of LG Electronics’ (LG) Home Entertainment Company plans to change the dynamics of the current TV market, capitalizing on LG’s early leadership in OLED TV technology and manufacturing. At the same time, HE Company president and CEO H.H. (Hyun-hwoi) Ha plans to expand the company’s ULTRA HD TV and Smart TV offerings with a wider range of products that push the boundaries of innovation.

“It has been widely predicted that 2014 will be the year that the OLED TV market will finally take off. With a solid foundation of R&D and the establishment of advanced manufacturing facilities in strategic countries around the globe, we are confident that LG can and will drive the market for OLED TVs going forward,” said Mr. Ha. “This year will also see the launch of outstanding new ULTRA HD TVs and Smart TVs from LG, highlighted by our new webOS platform which will demonstrate how truly smart a smart TV can be.”

OLED TV

With the introduction of its Flexible OLED TV, LG has now achieved a major grand slam, having introduced its share of world firsts in the OLED TV space— flat, curved and now flexible. Using the accompanying remote, the curvature of the Flexible OLED TV display can be alteredto suit the viewing situation and environment, such as number of viewers and viewing distance. Since the curvature is adjustable, audiences can enjoy the best TV viewing experience possible.

Complementing the company’s existing 55-inch CURVED OLED TV are two new products measuring 65 inches and 77 inches, measured diagonally with Ultra HD high resolution. The expanded range of superbly crafted OLED TVs emphasizes LG’s leadership in the next generation TV market.

What’s more, LG has established a global OLED TV manufacturing network with facilities located in key regions around the world. Production is already underway at LG’s newly constructed plants in Brazil, China, Poland and Thailand with the facility in Mexico to begin supplying OLED TVs to the North American market this year.

ULTRA HD TV

LG is looking to drive the Ultra HD TV market with a full lineup of models ranging in size from a 49 inches to a groundbreaking 105 inches. The company’s comprehensive selection of premium ULTRA HD units offers unmatched picture quality, differentiated features and stunning designs. LG is also introducing more affordable TV products, enabling a wider audience to enjoy the incredible immersive qualities of 4K entertainment.

On the content side, LG has formed strategic alliances with domestic and international broadcast TV and cable companies to co-develop 4K content. Globally, LG is focused on supplying Ultra HD content by cooperating with a number of established content providers such as Netflix and YouTube.

webOS, Differentiated User Experience

Launching this year, LG’s webOS platform will introduce consumers to the smoothest, most convenient smart TV user experience yet. Making TV simple again, the exciting new platform represents the development and design expertise of LG’s innovative Smart TV division.

webOS-based LG Smart TVs deliver a greater degree of freedom than previous TVs. For example, users can easily search and enjoy YouTube content or conduct an internet search while watching broadcast TV —all with just one or two clicks of the Magic Remote. In addition, the initial setup process is fun and easy to follow, without the normally cumbersome and complicated task of activating the TV.

The global rollout of webOS enabled LG Smart TVs will commence in the first half of 2014 starting in Korea and then expands to other regions.

LG MAKES SMART TV SIMPLE WITH NEW WEBOS SMART TV PLATFORM

New Platform Represents Completely New Paradigm in
Smart TVs Now and in the Future

LG Smart TV showing its optimized Smart TV platform webOS.

LAS VEGASJan. 6, 2014 — LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled its newest Smart TV platform at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. webOS, which was purchased from Hewlett-Packard in March last year, has been reinvented and reintroduced as LG’s new Smart TV platform. The new operating system offers an intuitive user interface for an experience that is both seamless and refreshingly uncomplicated, based on years of experience collected by the webOS team. Furthermore, the new platform makes it extremely easy for developers to create applications and enhances the compatibility of LG’s Smart TVs with other devices.

“We are extremely excited to be able to introduce webOS optimized for LG Smart TV here at CES 2014” said In-kyu Lee, Senior Vice President and head of the TV division at the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “The beauty of webOS is that it provides so much freedom, and is so simple to use. We feel confident that consumers will find navigating, exploring and switching between different forms of content on webOS a truly enjoyable, not frustrating, experience.”

Simple to Connect, Easy to Use

The webOS platform, which will be implemented in more than 70 percent of LG’s Smart TVs in 2014, greatly simplifies the smart TV experience. Its ease-of-use makes content searching and viewing, connecting with other devices, and even the initial setup process incredibly smooth. The first time the user turns on the webOS-enabled LG Smart TV, an animated character named BeanBird appears onscreen to help get connected and walk the use through the setup process. All the viewer has to do is shake the Magic Remote or press the OK button to receive further advice from the winged virtual facilitator. webOS can instantly recognize when and what kind of external device has been plugged into the TV and brings up a pop-up menu listing all relevant options for the user to choose from.

Instant Access and Easy Content Switching

The new Launcher, a left-to-right scrollable menu that runs along the lower portion of the screen is one of the most distinctive features of webOS. The Launcher makes it possible to switch between broadcast TV, smart TV content and media stored on external devices without having to return to the Home screen. It allows the viewer to simultaneously watch a show, play a game or browse the internet while searching or downloading other content. What’s more, Live Menu, which can be opened while viewing the TV, keeps the search, recommendation and channel options within easy reach.

Content Discovery Made Simple

The webOS development team in LG’s Silicon Valley Lab created the unique Today menu as a one-stop content recommendation service, suggesting popular TV shows, programs that have been missed as well as full-feature movies. Running horizontally along the center of the screen, the Today bar can also be scrolled up or down via the Magic Remote wheel to reveal more exciting viewing options.

LG’s webOS also offers access to the LG Store’s comprehensive collection of apps. The LG Store lets users browse the most-viewed and most-downloaded items available from across the Smart TV platform, including broadcast TV programs and the latest games. The logically organized categories, which include 3D content, games and movies, employ thumbnail images for fast and convenient selection of content.

Visitors to LG’s CES booth (2014 (Las Vegas Convention Center, Central Hall #8204) from January 7 to January 10 can experience webOS on LG’s latest OLED TVs, 4K ULTRA HD TVs and on other models from the company’s new year Home Entertainment lineup.
