LG FIRST TO LAUNCH NEXT GOOGLE TV UPDATE

Newest Google TV Platform to Amplify Consumer Convenience
with Intelligent Voice and Search Features

2012 LG Smart TV with Google TV™ (G2 Series).

SEOUL, Nov. 15, 2012 -– LG Electronics (LG) is the first manufacturer to offer its consumers the newest version of Google TV. The 2012 LG Smart TV with Google TV™ (G2 Series) models now combine intelligent voice and greater search functionality with LG G2 Series’ L9 dual-core chipset and user-friendly interface to make content discovery faster and easier.

“LG’s G Series TVs bring the content-wealth of the Internet to life on a TV that is packed with the latest technologies, including superb picture quality, lightning-fast processor speeds and our acclaimed Magic Remote, all on one screen, without the hassle of extra cable or TV boxes,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company.

With Google TV’s new features, consumers gain the added benefit of intelligent voice technology and more search functionality to easily find what they want to watch, listen or play. Voice Search is available through a convenient button and microphone on LG’s Magic Remote.

Google TV PrimeTime (previously the TV & Movies app) offers LG G2 Series users a choice of more than 100,000 movies and TV shows. PrimeTime searches through an extensive content library to find almost any show or movie with the option of viewing it on live broadcast TV, through an on demand application or a website. A quick guide has been added to allow consumers to scroll through favorite TV channels and movies while watching content on the larger screen.
Google TV now also includes a feature that automatically pairs consumers’ smartphones to LG G2 TVs via Wi-Fi®. This allows consumers to instantly play a YouTube video from their Android smartphones or tablets on their LG G2 TVs. The performance of YouTube is further enhanced by LG’s dual-core processor, its L9 chipset, based on the ARM architecture with a quad-core graphics processing unit (GPU). This chipset offers ultra-fast processing speeds, allowing consumers to quickly access and watch YouTube videos on LG G2 Series TVs with little upload and lag time.

The L9 chipset also provides the power needed for LG’s four-mode Magic Remote with QWERTY keyboard. Leveraging the power of LG’s Magic Remote voice recognition, a more intelligent search engine has been added in this Google TV update so that broadcast TV or Internet content can be found with only one vocal command.

“Voice Search and the intelligent search engine were developed to make finding the content consumers want simple,” said Kwon. “Voice Search will take you directly to the channel, show, website, YouTube video or application of your choosing with a simple voice command.” Even if consumers do not know the exact title of a program, they can search by actor or theme.

Mario Queiroz, VP Product Management, Google TV, said, “With this update, Google TV will make search and discovery of great entertainment even faster and easier. Combining features like Voice Search and improved browsing with the speed of LG’s G2 Series brings people an even more exciting home experience in the living room.”

The LG G2 Series features LG’s CINEMA 3D technology to deliver 3D with virtually no cross-talk and battery-free, shutter-free and lightweight glasses. In addition, G2 Series consumers gain access to the OnLive® application, which turns G2 TVs into a powerful on demand gaming platform by making hundreds of premium video games available instantly without a console. Games can be demoed free and purchased, or rented a la carte. Players also can subscribe to the OnLive PlayPack for unlimited play of more than 200 games, with more titles added monthly. To view OnLive’s game catalogue go to onlive.com/games/featuredgames.

The G2 series LG Smart TVs with Google TV are available in 47- and 55-inch class sizes and will be available to existing G2 TV customers in the United States beginning November 15 through an automatic software update to the TV.

“LG Electronics is committed to instituting green initiatives to help save energy and reduce its carbon footprint,” said Sung-ha Cho, head of LG Electronics Europe. “The company is actively pursuing an industry-leading commitment to the environment, as evidenced by our goal to reduce emissions in Europe to 15 percent below 2010 levels by the end of this decade.”

Cho explained that LG will strive to effectively manage greenhouse gas emissions and continue to drive value for customers. LG Electronics will cut emissions in Europe using tried-and-true methods such as:

A front view of the LG Ultra HD CINEMA 3D Smart TV (model 84LM9600)

NEW YORK, Nov. 12, 2012 –- Heralded for its heritage as an innovation and design leader, LG Electronics earned 10 prestigious 2013 International CES® Innovations Awards, including the “Best of Innovations” honor in the Video Display category for its new 84-inch class Ultra-High-Definition TV with four times the resolution of today’s LED HDTVs*.

LG home entertainment products, mobile phones and home appliances were recognized with awards in six highly-competitive categories: Video Displays, Portable Media Players and Accessories, Integrated Home Systems and Multi-Room Audio/Video, Home Theater Speakers, Home Appliances and Wireless Handsets.
“Technology innovation and design are the foundation of our company, and we are honored that CEA has awarded LG the ‘Best of Innovations’ award for the fifth year in a row, recognizing our ongoing commitment to bringing the best user experience to market each year,” said Wayne Park, president and CEO, LG Electronics USA. “This year’s host of honored products, from energy-efficient home appliances to quad-core smartphones and stylish smart electronics, represent a diverse portfolio of products that are designed to improve consumers’ lives.”

Honored as the industry’s best video display, the LG Ultra-High-Definition 84-inch class (84.04 inch diagonal) LED TV has a native screen resolution of 3840 x 2160 to match its impressive size. The LG Ultra HD CINEMA 3D Smart TV (model 84LM9600) quadruples the level of detail from full 1080p HD resolution to a massive 8 million pixels. Even before so-called “4K” content is available, LG’s powerful up-conversion engine, the proprietary “LG Resolution Upscaler Plus,” delivers higher detail from current HD/SD external sources.

In the Wireless Handset category, LG Electronics was honored for the slim and stylish LG Optimus G for AT&T, the acclaimed superphone that has been carefully designed from the ground-up to deliver incredible processing power and stunning visuals on a True HD IPS Plus display. This smartphone is equipped with the latest technology and features, including Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon™ S4 Pro quad-core processor, 4G LTE, and QSlide, LG’s newest multi-tasking feature, allowing consumer to double their productivity — or fun — by simultaneously seeing two functions at once via transparent layers. Optimus G is a high-quality multitasking device that is ideal for playing graphic-intensive games and watching HD movies.

In addition to the host of home electronics and mobile products honored for CES Innovation Awards, LG was recognized in the Home Appliance category for its high-efficiency appliances. These awarded appliances include Smart ThinQ™ technology, which takes advantage of the appliances’ Internet connectivity to help consumers save time and money.

The CES Innovations Awards are selected annually by a panel of prominent industry designers, engineers and journalists who judge product entries on criteria including user value, aesthetics, innovative design, quality and contributions to quality of life. Sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association and endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America, the CES Innovations Awards highlight product advancements in technology design and engineering.

Since 2004, LG has been honored with more than 130 CES Innovations Awards.

LG INTRODUCES WORLD’S FIRST 21:9 ULTRAWIDE MONITOR

With 21:9 Aspect Ratio and 4-Screen Split Feature, LG’s UltraWide Monitor
Delivers Exceptional Multitasking Features and Multimedia Functionality

SEOUL, Nov. 8, 2012 -– LG Electronics (LG) today announced the launch of its EA93 UltraWide Monitor, the world’s first to boast a 21:9 aspect ratio. The 29-inch screen offers ample screen real estate, a 4-Screen Split feature and 100 percent sRGB color space expression to provide better multitasking and multimedia capabilities. Designed for maximizing productivity, the monitor employs an IPS display to produce lifelike colors, making it an impressive addition to the home, office or studio.

“LG is always working to expand the definition of what technology is and how it can contribute to productivity and convenience. Whether it’s for work, watching movies, playing games or anything else in between, the UltraWide Monitor enhances the multitasking and multimedia experience,” said J.J. Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of the IT Business Unit at the LG Home Entertainment Company. “The cinematic proportions, diverse color range and all-around functionality of the UltraWide Monitor clearly demonstrate an ongoing commitment to innovation.”

Multitasking Functionality for Home and Office
The UltraWide Monitor is an excellent addition to any work environment. The monitor’s expansive 29-inch screen provides plenty of room for multiple documents and windows to be viewed at one time. The expansive display also allows more spreadsheet columns to be viewed at once or a two-page document to be read side-by-side.

The UltraWide Monitor is also an outstanding device for graphics professionals. The monitor enables artists to see more and do more with their time. Transforming the monitor into the ultimate multitasking tool, the 4-Screen Split feature can divide the screen into two to four segments, each of which can be uniquely customized.
Graphic designers generally utilize a dual-monitor configuration, allowing them to compare and contrast the material they are editing. However, dual monitors can cause color inconsistencies between screens. The UltraWide monitor, on the other hand, can connect the monitor to two external devices via Dual Link-up, providing consistent color across the entire screen, eliminating the bezels that typically divide the view in dual-monitor set-ups. Additionally, the monitor offers 100 percent of the sRGB color space and is hardware-color-calibration ready, making it perfectly adept at expressing consistent true-to-life colors that graphics professionals require.

Perfect for Movies and Multimedia Viewing
The UltraWide Monitor’s 21:9 aspect ratio is very close to the dimensions of movie theater screens. Its cinematic dimensions allow the monitor to display films the way they were intended. The monitor also takes advantage of IPS display technology so viewers can enjoy lifelike picture quality movies at almost any angle. The combination of four different features -– 21:9 aspect ratio, amazing image quality, brilliant color expression and LG’s CINEMA SCREEN Design –- makes the UltraWide Monitor ideal for movie buffs and video games. Gamers can also play games and videos from their smartphones on the monitor via the included MHL connection. The addition of two 7W stereo speakers adds to the immersive entertainment experience.

LG’s UltraWide Monitor will be introduced in Korea early this month and rolled-out globally in the weeks following.

LG UNVEILS ADVANCED TOUCH 10 MONITOR OPTIMIZED FOR WINDOWS 8

Innovative 10-Point IPS Monitor Expands the Horizon of Touchscreen Technology

A hand touches the display of LG’ Touch 10 monitor model ET83.

SEOUL, Oct. 31, 2012 – LG Electronics (LG) introduced its Touch 10 monitor (model: ET83), optimized for use with Windows 8, which was launched by Microsoft last week. Whereas conventional touchscreens enable two-finger dragging, scrolling and pinching, LG’s 23-inch Touch 10 monitor allows all ten fingers to be used simultaneously. The Touch 10 monitor is an excellent choice for those looking to enjoy an enhanced touch computing experience without having to upgrade their entire PC.

“This is a compelling new product that re-imagines the touch experience and shows that LG is an industry leader in developing the next generation of touch monitor products,” said J.J. Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of the IT Business Unit at the LG Home Entertainment Company. “Smartphones and tablets have already proven that consumers are ready to fully embrace touch features. Our 10-point touchscreen takes it one step further by exponentially expanding the range of interactive possibilities. We believe this technology will excite and inspire software developers and users alike.”

For tablet and smartphone owners, the Touch 10 monitor will feel like a huge improvement in the intuitive user experience they’re familiar with. Most touchscreens utilize a two-finger recognition system which allows for basic manipulation of onscreen elements. LG’s Touch 10 monitor affords users the ability to use all their fingers at the same time, meaning they can perform a number of new actions, such as dragging and rotating multiple items simultaneously. The highly responsive touchscreen also enables the user to take advantage of Windows 8 features, including the on-screen keyboard. The Touch 10 monitor also supports a capacitive stylus (purchased separately) should the user prefer a pen-like interface.

It’s great to see LG bringing touch to computing in innovative new ways,” said John Case, Vice President WW OEM Marketing, Microsoft Corporation. “Pairing LG’s Touch 10 monitor with a desktop or non-touch laptop will help create amazing Windows 8 touch experiences for customers.”

The impressive 23-inch monitor is great for musical applications featuring virtual pianos, synthesizers and string instruments. A bigger display is also makes watching movies, playing games and children’s educational programs much more enjoyable. A range of touch-friendly apps is available from the Windows Store. Moreover, from a consumer standpoint, the monitor’s setup is refreshingly hassle-free; full touch functionality is available as soon as the monitor is connected, and no extra software is required.

To ensure optimal picture quality, the monitor utilizes an advanced In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel. IPS displays have inherent advantages over conventional Twisted Nematic (TN) displays in terms of both color and clarity. The range of colors displayed is both vibrant and naturalistic, with good contrast and overall consistency. IPS technology also provides a more comfortable viewing experience for the user, reducing eye strain and thereby allowing extended periods of use.

The Touch 10 monitor will be available in Korea next month followed by markets in Europe and elsewhere.

LG ANNOUNCES THIRD-QUARTER 2012 FINANCIAL RESULTS

A picture of LG Twin Towers in the daytime

Company Reports Third Consecutive Quarter of Solid Net Income

SEOUL, Oct. 24, 2012 –- LG Electronics (LG) today reported a solid third-quarter performance with the third consecutive quarter of positive net income and all four companies recording strong operating profits. Better-than-expected performance in the mobile and home appliance businesses helped offset a slight decline in overall year-over-year sales for the third quarter.

Third-quarter net profit of KRW 157 billion (USD 138.57 million) with operating profit recording KRW 221 billion (USD 195.06 million) showed significant improvements from the loss in the same period last year. Third-quarter revenues fell 4 percent year-over-year to KRW 12.38 trillion (USD 10.93 billion) due to the continuing decline of feature phone sales and overall weak demand.

LG Home Entertainment Company third-quarter 2012 sales of KRW 5.49 trillion (USD 4.84 billion) were led by an increase in LCD TV sales, offsetting sluggish global demand. Percentage sales attributed to 3D TVs and LED TVs increased quarter-on-quarter with unit sales growing in most regions. IT products led by IPS monitors and monitor TVs also increased from the previous quarter. Operating profit of KRW 89 billion (USD 78.55 million) was unchanged from third quarter 2011. In the fourth quarter, the company plans to increase sales of LCD TVs by expanding marketing of CINEMA 3D Smart TVs and enhancing its premium brand positioning with the new Ultra HD TV.

LG Mobile Communications Company improved significantly in the 2012 third quarter, recording operating profit of KRW 22 billion (USD 19.42 million) due in large part to healthy sales of LTE smartphones in Korea, Japan and the United States. In addition, Optimus L-Series continued to expand into 3G markets, contributing to the sales increase. Revenues increased by 5 percent quarter-to-quarter to KRW 2.45 trillion (USD 2.16 billion) as shipments exceeded 14 million units, an increase of 9 percent from the previous quarter. The company expects to further increase its shipments and revenue in the fourth quarter with the global launch of the Optimus G superphone and sales of Optimus Vu: 2 in Korea.

LG Home Appliance Company reported improved sales and operating profit from the same quarter last year. Revenue increased 6.4 percent year-over-year to KRW 2.87 trillion (USD 2.53 billion) and operating profit of KRW 129 billion (USD 113.86 million) reflected strong sales in the United States as well as emerging markets. With global appliance demand stagnant, the fourth quarter will be challenging but additional marketing promotions and new model launches should help offset the situation.

LG Air Conditioning and Energy Solution Company posted a 3 percent year-over-year sales decline to KRW 974 billion (USD 859.66 million) while profitability increased slightly from the same period the previous year. The company expects worldwide demand to remain sluggish but the trend toward more energy efficient products should help drive demand in its commercial air conditioning systems business.

LG’S HOM-BOT SQUARE ROBOTIC VACUUM CLEANER MAKES ITS INTERNATIONAL DEBUT

Next-Generation Advanced Vacuum with “Corner Master” Cleans Up the Competition
A lady controlling an LG HOM-BOT with its remote control at the LG HOM-BOT SQUARE launch event in France

SEOUL, Oct. 24, 2012 — LG Electronics’ HOM-BOT SQUARE robotic vacuum cleaner made its global debut in Place Beaubourg, Paris, where it demonstrated to an international audience what the next generation of robotic cleaning technology would bring.
“Helping consumers lead more convenient lives with smart technology is what LG is all about,” said Moonbum
Shin, Executive Vice President and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “HOM-BOT SQUARE is contributing toward this goal in a large way on the strength of its innovation and competitiveness in this growing market.”
With sharp right-angles being found in practically every building in the world, LG engineers based the new HOM-BOT on a square, different from the circular design of most robot cleaners. The cleaner’s unique square design, hi-tech sensors and newly improved brushes (1.5cm longer than those in the previous model) are collectively called Corner Master and enable HOM-BOT SQUARE to more effectively reach areas that other cleaners simply ignore.
Corner-detecting sensors supply the cleaner with spatial information, telling it when the edge of the room has been reached, when to turn and when to stop. Sensitive Dual Eye 2.0™ camera sensors scan the floor, sampling multiple images per second and then analyze the information to generate an accurate map of the space -– even with the lights off. Onboard ultrasonic and infrared sensors allow the HOM-BOT SQUARE to detect and easily avoid obstacles in its path.
LG’s HOM-BOT SQUARE also features Turbo Mode, which allows the user to manually set cleaning functions to the specific requirements of their flooring. And Smart Turbo Mode enables the cleaner to detect the type of flooring and change its own settings automatically.
Visitors to LG’s HOM-BOT SQUARE launch event in France were given the opportunity to play a live version of LG’s dust-killing internet game. Participants used a remote to navigate the vacuum cleaner around a course and vacuum up simulated dust characters. Those who “caught” the most characters in the allocated time took home a new HOM-BOT SQUARE cleaner.
Launching first in France, HOM-BOT SQUARE will be available in other European markets in the fourth quarter followed by its global launch in 2013.
Key Specifications for LG’s new HOM-BOT SQUARE:
• Corner Master
• Dual Eye 2.0™
• Easy-out Dust Bin
• Low noise level: 60 dBA
• HEPA 11 Filter

BARCELONA, Oct. 17, 2012 -– LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled its new T-Series zero client in Barcelona at Citrix Synergy™, a global conference focusing on cloud computing, virtualization and networking. LG Cloud T-Series is the company’s next-generation zero client available as either a monitor (CAT42K) or a standalone box (CBT42) to connect to an existing screen. Running independently, both versions employ the Citrix HDX technology and a next-generation Texas Instruments (TI) system on a chip (SoC) offering high performance with greater security through zero client.

“With the LG Cloud T-Series, we’re expanding our reach into the zero client market while widening its range of VDI offerings,” said J.J. Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of the IT Business Unit of LG Home Entertainment Company. “Citrix HDX Ready verified LG Cloud T-Series will be of great value to any sized enterprise as it reduces the workload of IT management and overall cost while providing full HDX capabilities for outstanding performance.”

LG Cloud T-Series: Monitor Type
The monitor type T-Series (CAT42K) extends LG’s rapidly expanding range of zero client computing devices. Citrix HDX technology ensures a high-definition user experience of virtual desktops over any network while the marriage of TI’s DM8148 1GHz SoC with Citrix HDX technology enables the T-series to serve as a high-performance zero client, boosting high picture quality. Additionally, Cisco’s UPoE together reduces the maintenance workload for IT managers and overall operational costs through fewer hardware purchases and reduced power consumption.

Aside from the fundamental design, the T-Series monitor type includes a Full HD IPS display. Compared to conventional Twisted Nematic (TN) panels, IPS boosts color consistency for more lifelike colors, and offers an impressively wide viewing angle (178 degrees). When combined with Citrix HDX technology embedded in the ultrafast TI SoC, the IPS monitor yields advanced graphics performance and image quality that is comfortable to the eyes, reducing stress and increasing focus.

The external design of the monitor consists of a matte black finish on the frame and a slim height, swivel and tilt adjustment for great ergonomics while at work. The T-Series monitor type will be available in two sizes, 23-inches (16:9 aspect ratio) and 19-inches (16:10 aspect ratio).

“LG continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to HDX SoC-based solutions with the introduction of the T-Series line of products”, noted Chris Fleck, VP of Mobility and Alliances at Citrix. “LG’s innovative T-Series product offerings will drive enterprise adoption of desktop virtualization and allow organizations of any size to experience the rich capabilities of HDX Ready SoC with our market leading XenDesktop solution.”

LG Cloud T-Series: Box Type
Independent from any monitor, the box type T-Series (CBT42) includes Citrix HDX technology and the next generation TI SoC that will offer similar high-end graphics performance for any connected monitor. Additionally, the T-Series box type can stand vertically with a cradle or it can attach to the backside of a monitor for increased space efficiency. This is an affordable alternative to the T-series monitor type; advantageous for many enterprises and even SMEs that have already invested in monitors.

The LG Cloud T-Series offers six USB ports and a DVI port for a clone display. The six USB 2.0 ports enable accessories such as keyboards, mice, printers, scanners, card readers and cameras to attach to the T-Series zero client for enhanced functionality.

The T-Series monitor type will be available starting next month in Europe and the United States and the T-Series box type will follow in early 2013.

Based on LG’s Pro:Centric® Platform, New Smart Hotel TVs
Offer Suite of Smart Connections, Cost Savings

SEOUL, Oct. 11, 2012 –- LG Electronics (LG) today announced the latest models in its Pro:Centric® Smart Hotel TV series designed for the hospitality industry. Pro:Centric is LG’s solution for hoteliers that allows them to easily customize the in-room experience, providing a convenient way to interface with interactive program guides and internet data feeds and connects customers to hotel services in and outside the guest rooms.
LG’s newest LT770H and LT760H series of Pro:Centric Smart Hotel TVs provide a customizable user interface (UI) for a tailor-made in-room experience, preloaded Smart TV applications, a suite of connectivity options that give guests convenient access to personal content, IP over Coax convenience, and an integrated set-top box to help reduce operating costs.
“The latest TVs in LG’s hospitality lineup offer a comprehensive set of features for both hotel guests and hotel operators,” said Ki-il Kwon, Vice President and Head of TV Overseas Marketing at LG Home Entertainment Company. “As the world’s leading hotel TV innovator, LG has a distinct advantage in terms of being able to help hotel owners reduce total cost of ownership while ensuring a wide range of customization options.”
Customizable UIs and Multiple Connectivity Options
The LG Smart Hotel TV series employ the Pro:Centric applications platform, delivering support for HTML5 via an WebKit interface, Java and Flash, so system integrators, program providers and property owners can develop and provide a unique interface to guests. Hotels can customize the UI to include branded information as well as practical features such as remote check-out and room service.
In addition to the customizable UI, guests will have a suite of connectivity options available at their fingertips with the LG Pro:Centric Smart Hotel TVs. Typical connections through USB ports and built-in Wi-Fi are available in addition to smarter connectivity through SmartShare -– a portal to transmit content via technologies such as Intel Wireless Display (WiDi), which allows content to be streamed from compatible devices.
Pre-loaded Apps and History Auto-Delete
The LT760H series initially (and ultimately also the LT770H series) will include preloaded apps and a handy function to help ensure the privacy of each guest. The apps themselves were specifically chosen to enable users to benefit from easy access to commonly used social networking sites (SNS) and information resources. At the same time, History Auto-Delete ensures that guests vacating a room have their search history removed via a reboot to protect their privacy.
Outstanding Savings for Hotel Operators
While offering superb entertainment functions, both of LG’s Pro:Centric Smart Hotel TV series provide outstanding savings by reducing installation and management costs. The IP-over-coax functionality, included in the 760H models eliminates the need for investment in additional infrastructure to support Ethernet, while the built-in set-top box eliminates additional hardware expenses, reducing initial setup costs and long-term maintenance fees. Finally, operational costs are minimized as members of hotel staff are able to control the entire infrastructure via a central remote management system.
Hospitality Solutions
“LG has long established itself as a leader in the TV industry,” said Kwon. The company also has leveraged its technological know-how to build a healthy relationship with the hospitality industry, making LG the number one brand in the U.S. lodging and hospitality market. “Looking to the future, LG promises hotel guests an even more connected and engaging in-room experience with a wealth of content and connectivity options based on customizable platforms,” Kwon added.
The LT760H will be introduced this week in Germany and the U.K. followed by additional markets in Europe, CIS, Asia, Middle East and Africa. The LG770H, in 32-, 37-, 42- and 47-inch class sizes, will be available initially in the United States starting in the fourth quarter.
