LG’S NEW CLOUD MONITORS COMBINE UPoE AND IPS TO CREATE A TOTAL BUSINESS SOLUTION

P Series Improves Business Efficiency, Reduces Costs,
Takes Up Less Space and Is Easier on the Eyes

SEOUL, May. 3, 2012 –- LG Electronics (LG) unveiled its advanced P Series of cloud monitors, allowing companies to do away with desktops and laptops altogether. The new VMware-based Zero Client monitors can be networked to create a virtual computing system and come packaged with Cisco’s Universal Power over Ethernet (UPoE) technology, enabling centralized resources, greater system security and reduced costs.
“These monitors are a highly appealing option for the next generation workspace archi-tecture,” said J. J. Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of IT Business Unit of LG Home Entertainment Company. “The P Series combines two technologies — cloud monitor networking and IPS panels — for a combination that offers exciting new possibilities in terms of efficiency in the workplace and gives LG a significant role in virtual computing.”
The P Series is a server-based model and offers a range of unique benefits. First and foremost, because the software is managed from a centralized network, there’s greater security from hacking, viruses and spyware by allowing the data flow to be more easily monitored and blocked if necessary.
LG’s Zero Client Cloud Computing technology also consolidates servers and thus requires less hardware. In fact, each station requires only a LAN cable, a keyboard and a mouse. There is no CPU, no memory and no storage. Employees don’t need to install operating systems or software, saving both time and money. Booting speeds are faster than traditional desktops, and the entire system is in line with eco-friendly green computing standards.
The P Series uses the VMware platform, which oversees server integration. VMware is an automated virtual infrastructure that helps companies further reduce costs by managing the network and ensuring system efficiency. Because the platform is automated, the delivery of IT services to each work station is faster and compliance to system specifications is guaranteed. The software also schedules secure back-ups and interruption-free system updates.
Cisco’s UPoE technology is particularly appealing for its minimal energy requirements. It delivers power over LAN cabling to networked devices and with the EnergyWise program, UPoE can track power consumption and make adjustments in real-time for greater efficiency. UPoE technology also eliminates cables and connectors, letting employees make better use of their office space.
By using IPS rather than TN (twisted nematic) panels, the 23-inch monitor boasts lifelike color reproduction and picture quality regardless of viewing angle. The N2311AZ also reduces eye fatigue, making it the ideal monitor for visual-based occupations like graphic design.

LG INTRODUCES THE FIRST REAL STREAMING MULTIMEDIA CLOUD FOR ALL THREE SCREENS

Unique Cloud Service Offers Content Consumption and
Seamless Connectivity via TVs, Mobile Devices and PCs

A model introduces the LG Cloud service which is compatible with TVs, mobile devices and PCs while lying down on the floor

SEOUL, APR. 30, 2012 — LG Electronics (LG) announced the beta opening of LG Cloud service on May 1 with the aim of providing seamless connectivity and streaming access to all digital content across various electronic devices. Although cloud is today’s hottest IT buzzwords, LG Cloud is the first that allows users to manage and consume all types of content on “three screens” which includes Android smartphones, PCs and smart TVs (including but not limited to CINEMA 3D models) without a separate set-top box.
To use the service, users need to download the LG Cloud app from Google Play or LG SmartWorld app store from their Android smartphones, LG SmartWorld store from their LG Smart TVs or the LG Cloud website (www.lgecloud.com) from their PCs or laptops. LG’s Cloud service automatically synchronizes smartphone content with the cloud server and the user’s PC and TV. Photos and videos taken with the smartphone can be viewed and streamed to the PC or TV almost instantaneously. Videos edited on a PC can be uploaded to LG Cloud for viewing seconds later on a smartphone. Unlike other cloud services, there’s very little waiting or lag time since the content is streamed to the TV, PC or smartphone, not downloaded first.
The difference is in LG’s Real-time Streaming Transcoding technology. The conversion happens on the server in realtime, not on the device. There is no need to worry about installing codecs or converters, everything happens seamlessly and in the background with no involvement from the user. No other cloud service can make this same claim.
The service also works perfectly with 3D content. Vacation videos taken with an LG 3D smartphone can be uploaded via 3G or Wi-Fi to the LG Cloud service. Back home in the comforts of the living room, the family can watch the vacation footage as it streams from LG Cloud to their LG CINEMA 3D Smart TV in superb three dimensions.
To better develop cloud services that prioritize convergence, LG created a new division called Smart Business Center to focus specifically on content and services. Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company, is also responsible for the new Smart Business Center.
“Most companies today only see the cloud as a storage device or in the case of YouTube or Flickr, only for one type of content,” said LG’s Mr. Kwon. “LG makes the devices that millions of people watch content on so we can set a new yardstick for ease of use by setting up our own cloud service. Tomorrow’s consumers don’t want to go to one cloud for music, another cloud for video, another location for photos and yet another cloud for their office files. In the end, our solution is about making life more convenient.”
LG Cloud will be offered as both a free and paid service. Free storage space and pricing will differ market to market and will be announced separately as the service becomes available in that country.

LG MAKES DYNAMIC VIEWING EXPERIENCE MAINSTREAM WITH NEW IPS MONITORS

IPS4 Monitor Delivers Stunning Picture Quality, Lifelike Color Expression,
Original Color Consistency, Enhanced Viewing Comfort

LG’s new IPS monitor, IPS4, displaying colorful yarns.

SEOUL, Apr. 27, 2012 –- LG Electronics (LG) today announced the availability of a new line of monitors, the IPS4 series. These monitors feature In-Plane Switching (IPS) rather than conventional Twisted Nematic (TN) panels, allowing for superb color reproduction, exceptional picture quality and unmatched color shift-free wide viewing.
Thanks to an impressively wide viewing-angle (178 degrees), the new IPS monitors enable viewers to enjoy superb picture quality without any color shift whether sitting, standing or lying down. Smooth Color Change also eliminates blur generated from rapid motion in action scenes, sports or video games so that viewers feel less eye fatigue even during longer viewing sessions. When all of these technologies are combined, the result is a richer, more comfortable viewing experience.
By boosting color consistency and minimizing color changes, the IPS4 series is able to reproduce original colors, virtually eliminating the gap between what is shot and what is shown. As such, the IPS4 monitors are ideal for anyone engaged in photography or video editing.
“Despite strong sales and dominating the professional market, IPS monitors were less popular with the majority of consumers due to the cost of high-quality IPS panels,” said J.J. Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of IT Business Unit of LG Home Entertainment Company. “With the launch of the affordable IPS4 series, LG is taking a huge step in making IPS monitors ubiquitous in every room.”
A number of easy-to-use functions add to the appeal of the IPS4 series. For instance, the Dual Smart Solution feature uses a simple one-click set-up to run dual monitors, and even creates a dual taskbar and auto-optimized dual web split screen. The Dual Screen feature optimizes the window size to automatically divide the screen to view multiple web pages, making it easier than ever before to multitask online.
Efficiency has also been improved. The monitors are equipped with a cable management design that does away with the messy snarl of wires. The IPS4 series is much more energy-efficient compared to conventional LED monitors without sacrificing picture quality.
LG’s IPS4 series will first become available in Asia in May followed by Europe and North America in the coming weeks.

WORLD CLASS IPS DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY FROM LG USED BY TOP PRO-GAMERS

LG Provides Elite Professional Gaming Team with Stunning IPS-Driven Picture

Quality and Introduces State-of-the-Art Technology to the Gaming Community

J.J. Lee, executive vice president and head of the IT Business Unit of LG Home Entertainment, with members of the Incredible Miracle Team of the Global StarCraft II League.

SEOUL, Apr. 26, 2012 –- LG Electronics (LG) announced a sponsorship deal with the top-ranked Incredible Miracle (IM) Team of the Global Starcraft II League (GSL).

The IM Team boasts some of the world’s best GSL gamers, including Jong-hyun Jung (Starcraft II ID: IMMvp) and Jae-duk Im (Starcraft II ID: IMNes Tea). Jung held one of the best records of any GSL gamer last year, picking up big wins at events such as the BlizzCon Invitational, Sony Ericsson GSL (January), MLG Anaheim and the Pepsi GSL, among others. GSL matches are regularly watched by more than two hundred thousand people and on average, more than 1.7 million viewers per day tune in to watch big tournaments from nearly every country around the world.

As one of LG’s on-going support initiatives for the gaming community, LG will offer pro-gamers IPS monitors to use in training, providing a more comfortable viewing experience. Reducing eye fatigue is a key factor for gamers who play Role-Playing Games (RPGs) for extended periods of time. The initiative will also offer a range of interactive events to give game fans the opportunity to meet and play special matches with IM Team members at well-known gaming conventions.

“When training, pro-gamers are looking at their monitor for many hours every day,” said Jong-hyun Jung, IM Team’s all-star member. “IPS monitors have color rendering that is extremely good, and the image processing capabilities are perfect for RPGs. LG’s IPS has also eliminated the blur generated from rapid motion in video games. This puts less strain on my eyes, even when I put in a lot of hours.”

LG has already garnered a strong reputation for demonstrating impressive advances in displays and monitors. It has earned praise for its 3D technology and the benefits of IPS monitors were also recognized at a number of game conventions and festivals such as last year’s LG CINEMA 3D Global Game Festival, held in over 20 countries.

“We’re very excited about having the opportunity to work with IM Team. It’s a great chance for us to interact with members of the gaming community,” said J.J. Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of IT Business Unit of LG Home Entertainment Company. “IPS monitors are simply perfect for gaming as they don’t have the color and viewing angle limitations that some with Twisted Nematic (TN) monitors.”

LG plans to invest heavily in the monitor market in 2012 by offering a comprehensive lineup of IPS monitors, providing consumers with the most immersive home entertainment experience possible. LG’s IPS4 series will be available in May in select markets with 3D IPS monitors and Personal TVs being announced soon after.

LG ANNOUNCES FIRST-QUARTER 2012 FINANCIAL RESULTS

In the Black, Company Reports Significant Improvement by
Focusing on Higher Margins and Efficient Operation

A picture of LG Twin Towers in the daytime

SEOUL, Apr. 25, 2012 — LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced that after two consecutive quarters of net losses, the company has turned the corner with a net profit of KRW 243 billion (USD 214.9 million), a direct result of the company’s efforts to innovate in all key business units and focus on high performing products.

Unaudited consolidated financial results, based on IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) for the quarter ending March 31, 2012, showed consolidated revenues of KRW 12.2 trillion (USD 10.8 billion) with an operating profit of KRW 448 billion (USD 396.1 million). This compares favorably to the consolidated operating profit of KRW 280 billion for all of 2011.

LG Home Entertainment Company posted significantly improved operating profit in the quarter, compared with the same period a year ago. Sales, while strong at KRW 5.3 trillion (USD 4.7 billion), declined by 6.8 percent compared with the first-quarter of 2011, largely due to the a sluggish European economy. Due in large part to the popularity of new products such as CINEMA SCREEN 3D Smart TV in the Korean market and improvements in supply chain management, operating profit nearly doubled to 217 billion (USD 191.9 million) from the same period the previous year. LG will leverage upcoming big ticket sporting events and the global roll-out of LG’s redesigned 2012 TV models to stimulate higher demand for its Home Entertainment products.

LG Mobile Communications Company saw operating profit more than triple quarter-over-quarter from KRW 12 billion to KRW 39 billion (USD 34.5 million) as a result of a better product mix and an increase in the proportion of smartphone sales. Overall revenues declined 14 percent year-over-year from KRW 2.9 trillion to KRW 2.5 trillion (USD 2.2 billion) as a result of declining feature phone sales but smartphone revenue increased due to the popularity of Optimus LTE and Optimus Vu: in the home market. The company expects to strengthen its smartphone lineup even more in the second quarter with the introduction of its L-Style series and quad-core smartphones.

LG Home Appliance Company’s first-quarter 2012 operating profit increased 48 percent from the same period last year to KRW 152 billion (USD 134.4 million) thanks to higher average sales price, better product mix and cost efficiency. A 2.7 percent decrease in revenues year-over-year, to KRW 2.5 trillion (USD 2.2 billion), primarily reflected a slowdown in China and developed markets. Despite continued sluggishness in major markets and a rise in the cost of raw materials, the company will continue to efficiently allocate resources and develop differentiated products such as the Blast Chiller refrigerator.

LG Air Conditioning and Energy Solution Company saw operating profit more than double from the same period last year to KRW 81 billion (USD 71.6 million) thanks to new high-end products and cost structure improvements. First-quarter revenues were essentially flat, declining 1.2 percent year-over-year to KRW 1.2 trillion (USD 1.1 billion). LG is optimistic that government policies to promote the usage of energy-efficient products in homes and businesses will create new growth opportunities for the company, along with highly efficient commercial air conditioners.

2012 1Q Exchange Rates Explained
