LG ANNOUNCES FOURTH-QUARTER AND FULL-YEAR 2012 FINANCIAL RESULTS

All Business Units Report Improved 2012 Operating Income from Previous Year

A picture of LG Twin Towers in the daytime

SEOUL, Jan. 30, 2013 –– LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced consolidated revenues of KRW 50.96 trillion (USD 45.22 billion) and a net profit of KRW 91 billion (USD 80.75 million) for full-year 2012. Despite a 6 percent revenue decrease from 2011, operating profits increased significantly in 2012 to KRW 1.14 trillion USD 1.01 billion) from KRW 379 billion (USD 342.06 million) in full-year 2011.

Fourth quarter 2012 consolidated revenues were KRW 13.50 trillion (USD 12.37 billion) with an operating profit of KRW 107 billion (USD 98.08 million). Unaudited consolidated financial results for the fourth quarter ending Dec. 31, 2012 showed a net loss of KRW 468 billion (USD 428.96 million) which reflects a fine related to alleged cathode-ray tube pricing issues imposed by the European Commission in December.

The LG Home Entertainment Company reported record sales of flat-panel TVs with 9.3 million units in the fourth quarter resulting in a 17.4 percent revenue increase quarter-on-quarter to KRW 6.44 trillion (USD 5.91 billion) and full-year operating profit of KRW 542 billion (USD 480.92 million). Revenues from 3D and Smart TVs increased with higher unit sales in the United States, Europe and CIS countries. Although the Home Entertainment Company had the strongest quarter of the year in terms of revenue, profitability declined somewhat due to lower average selling prices and increased competition. LG will continue to aggressively market 3D and Smart TVs and plans to expand its share of the premium TV segment in 2013 with Ultra HD TVs and OLED TVs.

The LG Mobile Communications Company reported a 7 percent unit increase quarter-on-quarter in mobile handset shipments to 15.4 million with more than half of the units coming from smartphones. Smartphone shipments grew 23 percent compared to the previous quarter, increasing to 8.6 million devices from the 7 million in the third quarter. Fourth quarter revenues were the highest of the year, growing 15 percent to KRW 2.81 trillion (USD 2.58 billion) quarter-on-quarter. Sales of premium LTE smartphones such as Optimus G and Vu:2 increased in the fourth quarter, as did the L-series and Google Nexus 4. With more European and emerging markets introducing LTE services this year, LG plans to increase smartphone revenues and market share by launching follow-up devices to Optimus G and the L-series as well as the new F-series.

The LG Home Appliance Company posted almost flat revenues year-on-year, with sales of KRW 2.94 trillion (USD 2.7 billion) in the fourth quarter as strong sales in the U.S. and CIS countries were largely offset by sluggish demand in Europe, the Middle East and Latin America. Profitability was affected by unfavorable foreign exchange rates and increased marketing investments, even though average selling prices for home appliance products rose in the fourth quarter. The company plans to improve its revenue and profitability in 2013 with more competitive products, advanced technologies and a stronger focus on profitable regions.

The LG Air Conditioning & Energy Solutions Company reported sales of KRW 683 billion (USD 626 million) in the fourth quarter, essentially unchanged year-on-year. An operating loss of KRW 11 billion (USD 10.08 million) in the quarter showed improvement from the same period last year due to operational efficiencies. For full-year 2012, the company recorded revenues of KRW 4.35 trillion (USD 3.86 billion) and operating profit of KRW 156 billion (USD 138.42 million). The priority in 2013 will be to introduce more energy-efficient and localized products to bolster revenue growth.

2013 Business Direction

For 2012, LG Electronics is targeting a revenue goal of KRW 53.5 trillion with plans to spend KRW 2.5 trillion in capital expenditures.

2012 4Q Exchange Rates Explained

Starting from the fourth quarter of 2012, the Company has modified its disclosure of operating profit or loss in accordance with the newly issued Amendments to Korea-International Financial Reporting Standards (K-IFRS) 1001 “Presentation of Financial Statements.” Due to this change, the Company has also reclassified comparative financial data in accordance with the new disclosure requirement. Amounts in Korean won (KRW) are converted into U.S. dollars (USD) at the average rate of the three month period in each corresponding quarter: KRW 1,091 per USD (2012 4Q) and KRW 1,146 per USD (2011 4Q). A 45 degrees clockwise view of the world's largest Ultra HD signage (model 84WT70) at ISE 2013

SEOUL, Jan. 28, 2013 -– LG Electronics (LG) will unveil an extensive range of digital signage products at the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2013, the world’s largest professional audio visual and integrated systems tradeshow. Taking place from January 29 to 31 in Amsterdam, ISE is the perfect forum for LG to showcase its next generation display products, many of which feature advanced, energy efficient IPS panels. Under the theme of Powerful and Professional, LG’s outstanding business-to-business products, including the world’s first 84-inch Ultra HD Multi-touch Signage, Smart Mirror and new transparent display, are guaranteed to impress the audience.

“Our strong 2013 lineup utilizes the latest IPS display technology to provide superior picture quality for a wide range of commercial applications,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of the LG Home Entertainment Company. “Clearly viewable from practically any angle, LG’s digital signage solutions are capable of holding the consumer’s attention in any setting, indoor or outdoor.”

IMPRESSIVE 3D DISPLAYS

Visitors to LG’s stand at ISE 2013 will be welcomed by the visually impressive 3D Video Wall, which consists of forty-nine 55-inch displays (model 55WV70MD). These innovative products feature one of the world’s slimmest bezel-to-bezel measurements at just 5.3mm, giving the viewer the impression that they are viewing a single enormous display. LG will also demonstrate how its unique 3D displays can be creatively implemented at theme parks or motor shows for the most realistic, fully immersive viewing experience. Ideal for large audiences, the company’s proprietary Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) 3D system employs economical, lightweight and battery-free glasses.

Unlike conventional TVs, outdoor digital signage must be viewable in all types of lighting, in all types of weather conditions. At a bright 2,000 nits, LG’s model WX50MF IPS signage is the perfect solution for eye-catching outdoor advertisements. Whereas competing 1,500 nit displays black out at just 85°C, the WX50MF outdoor display stays bright up to a searing 110°C. Other hallmarks of this exceptional technology include a noticeably wider viewing angle, zero distortion with perfect color consistency and contrast. Additionally, LG’s IPS based digital signage products reduce the total cost of ownership with up to 30 percent improvement in energy efficiency compared to competing products. Local dimming and Smart Energy Saving functions optimally adjust the LED backlight to match the brightness of the content, offering a more comfortable viewing experience while using less energy.

WORLD’S LARGEST ULTRA HD SIGNAGE

LG’s flagship product at this year’s ISE, the 84-inch model 84WS70, is the world’s largest Ultra HD signage with four times the screen resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) of traditional HD displays. Three of these cutting-edge products will be arranged side-by-side, displaying vibrant footage from the spring/summer collections of top fashion designers in near life-size form. A multi-touch version of the 84-inch Ultra HD signage (model 84WT70) will demonstrate its interactive capabilities using Google Maps. Visitors to LG’s booth will be able to take a virtual tour of their favorite destinations via Street View in ultra high definition mode, an experience that has to been seen to be believed. The 84WT70 is also ideal for displaying interactive information in educational settings, museums, art galleries, shopping malls and department stores.

FUTURISTIC TRANSPARENT DISPLAY

LG’smodel 47TS50MF transparent display is perfect for installation invending machines where it can show product images and promotional videos, maximizing precious line-of-sight real estate. When a product is selected, the 47TD50MF plays a fun animation of the virtual version of the product being delivered to the customer.

VERSATILE ULTRAWIDE SIGNAGE

LG will also introduce a number of real-life scenarios in which the 21:9 aspect ratio of its ultrawide signage (model 29WR30) can be used to stunning effect. This new product functions ideally as a media pole to display news and advertising but is also perfectly at home as a virtual banner, providing up-to-the-minute information at bus stops, movie theaters or restaurants.

LG TO LEAD OLED AND ULTRA HD TV MARKETS

LG Plans to Lead Industry with OLED TV,

Broader Ultra HD TV Lineup, Unique Smart TV Features

Havis Kwon, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company speaking at CES 2013.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 9, 2013 –– Speaking at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Havis Kwon, President and CEO of the LG Electronics’ Home Entertainment Company, outlined the company’s vision for the upcoming year and expressed confidence in LG’s ability to lead the next generation TV market.

“2013 is an important year because for LG, it marks the beginning of a new TV era,” said Mr. Kwon. “With game-changing products such as the OLED TV and Ultra HD TV, we are in a strong position strategically to lead the industry. Delivery of our Ultra HD TV well before the competition and the imminent release of our OLED TV in the first quarter of 2013 will give us a head start in a market where speed is a critical component of success.”

Seizing the Advantage with Global Rollout of OLED TV

In order to gain an early foothold in the OLED TV market, Mr. Kwon said LG will launch its 55-inch OLED TV in North America, Central and South America, Europe and Asia in the first quarter of 2013. The company will increase R&D and investment in OLED TV technology and marketing to ensure that consumers see a strong link between OLED and LG. The company will also continue to develop and improve production techniques in cooperation with LG Display in order to strengthen its position in what is expected to be a fast-growing segment in the next two or three years..

Dominating in Ultra HD TVs with Diverse Lineup

LG will solidify its market position with the addition of different Ultra HD TV sizes to complement its 84-inch Ultra HD TV (Model 84LM9600) which was first unveiled at CES one year ago. Earlier this week at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show, LG unveiled new 55 and 65-inch versions slated for launch in some 100 countries.
With its 84-inch Ultra HD TV already being delivered to living rooms in more than 40 countries, LG has begun playing a key role in promoting new Ultra HD content. At CES, LG demonstrated the progress it has made with Korea’s number one broadcaster, KBS, to develop Ultra HD content and expressed its interest in forming partnerships with overseas broadcasters as well.

Smart TV Leadership with Differentiated Content and Services

With more intuitive controls, enhanced user interface (UI) and advanced SmartShare feature which enables one-touch media sharing across multiple devices, LG is firmly committed to raising its Smart TV profile. A redesigned Magic Remote allows users to more easily control their Smart TV with everyday voice commands or simply point to the TV screen and direct an on-screen cursor, almost like using an “air mouse”. LG’s newest Smart TVs also deliver a smoother user experience and superior picture quality thanks to an upgraded CPU and graphics processor.

LG will continue to develop strategic partnerships with broadcasters, content providers and IT companies to offer better quality Smart TV content and differentiated services. What’s more, the company plans to expand its joint efforts to offer more region-specific entertainment and live broadcasts in order to deliver the best possible Smart TV user experience to LG customers worldwide.

LG SHOWS ITS FIRST OLED TV WITH CURVED SCREEN

New OLED TV Underscores LG’s Status as Technology and Design Frontrunner

LG displaying the world’s first curved OLED TVs (model EA980) at CES 2013.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2013 –– LG Electronics (LG) today demonstrated its continued OLED TV market leadership with a revolutionary curved model, the EA9800, shown for the first time here today at the 2013 International CES. Featuring proprietary WRGB technology, the incredibly thin display features a dramatic curved design and a vivid picture quality that is practically indiscernible from colors found in nature.

The unique new EA9800 model features the industry’s very first curved screen ergonomic design with full CINEMA 3D support. With a gentle inward flex, the entire screen surface is equidistant from the viewer’s eyes, removing the problem of screen-edge visual distortion and detail loss. Availability and pricing were not announced.

“LG is the first to launch the 55-inch OLED TV,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “We believe our new OLED TVs offer the ultimate viewing experience, surpassing anything seen before. The new curved model complements our core OLED TV family with a unique design that capitalizes on the thinness of the screen and the aesthetic beauty of OLED TV.”

LG’s OLED TVs produce astoundingly vivid and realistic pictures, thanks to superior WRGB technology. This unique Four-Color Pixel system features a white sub-pixel, which works in conjunction with the conventional RGB setup to create the perfect color output. The built-in Color Refiner delivers even greater tonal enhancement, resulting in images that are more vibrant and natural than anything seen before. The 55-inch OLED TV also offers an infinite contrast ratio, which maintains optimal contrast levels regardless of ambient brightness or viewing angle. To complement the infinite contrast ratio and enable the richest color and deepest black expression, the High Dynamic Range (HDR) algorithm has been incorporated. This technology also ensures contrast ratio consistency and maximum color separation.

As OLEDs generate their own light, there is no need for a separate backlight, enabling LG OLED TVs to boast a significantly reduced weight and depth, and a stylish, minimal appearance. The EA9800’s streamlined, ultra-modern design and curved screen remove any hint of visual distraction to maximize the viewing experience. Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) has been implemented to further reduce unit weight and add additional strength to the beautifully curved screen. The OLED TV’s sleek styling and slim profile complement the stunning images brought about by LG’s WRGB technology, helping to create what is truly the ultimate immersive viewing experience.

LG’s Paper Slim design effectively unifies screen and stand into a seamless aesthetic entity. Meanwhile, CINEMA SCREEN Design elements result in a narrow screen bezel which is practically invisible to the naked eye. A minimal bezel helps to produce a truly immersive 2D and 3D viewing experience. For installation versatility, the new model also ships with an easy-to-mount wall bracket that allows a single person to complete the entire installation. With less than a one-inch gap between wall and TV, LG’s design masterpiece can now be displayed like a true work of art.

Additionally, Smart Touch Control further differentiates LG’s OLED TV designs from competing models. This new feature results in a more attractive appearance and a better control experience. Located below the screen, the sliding touch key provides the user with an intuitive and elegant way to control the OLED TVs basic functions, such as changing channels and volume, and powering on or off.

LG’s OLED TVs combine the company’s industry-leading CINEMA 3D technology with Smart TV capabilities, creating the most immersive and comprehensive home entertainment experience possible.

SEOUL, Jan. 5, 2013 ㅡ LG Electronics (LG) will display its new Ultra HD TV lineup at CES 2013 in Las Vegas. The original 84-inch Ultra HD TV will be complemented by 55- and 65-inch screen models. The new sizes offer the same stellar resolution and immersiveviewing experience as LG’s 84-inch Ultra HD TV, the winner of the “Best of Innovations” in the Video Display category at the 2013 International CES® Innovations Awards. LG was the first company to successfully commercialize Ultra HDTV technology, introducing the immersive set for sale to the public in August of this year.

“LG continues to lead the way in the Ultra HD TV segment,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company, “In response to expected demand for a range of screen sizes, LG is adding a 55- and 65-inch model to its Ultra HD TV lineup. We are extremely proud of this series as a whole and the ‘Best of Innovations’ award bestowed on our 84-inch UHD TV by the CEA.”

All three models in the Ultra HD TV series boast the advanced Triple XD Engine. This exceptional picture processing technology creates astonishingly vivid images, with 8 million pixels per frame; four times the resolution (3840×2160) of Full HD TV panels. Additionally, the Resolution Upscaler Plus takes content of lesser image quality and rendersit in high detail.

LG’s newest Magic Remote allows the user to intuitively navigate the Ultra HD TV’s smart onscreen interface. The company’s Smart TV ecosystem now includes approximately 1,400 apps and access to a growing collection of premium content services, such as 3D Worldand Game World. SmartShare Plus connects users to even more media and entertainment options. This feature set offers a range of connectivity options such as Wi-Fi and Intel’s Wireless Display(WiDi), which enable content to be transferred from portable devices such as laptops, mobile phones, tablets and other devices.

LG has equipped its Ultra HD TV swith CINEMA 3D technology, bringing 3D entertainment into the Ultra HD arena. Astounding screen resolution in combination with 3D effects provides an immersive experience, which is truly beyond imagination. 3D Depth Control allows viewers to fine-tune the perceived distance between objects on the screen, for a customizable 3D experience. 3D Sound Zooming furthers the sense of being ‘in the action’ by analyzing onscreen objects to generate sound in accordance with their virtual location and movement. In addition, the Dual Play feature allows opponents playing multiplayer games to simultaneously see different images on the same screen– effectively making split-screen gaming a thing of the past.

LG’s Ultra HD TV also features a 2.2 Sound System. Consisting of two 10W speakers and two 15W woofers, the sound system produces a lush audio experience that perfectly complements the extraordinary onscreen visuals; creating a true theater-like experience in the home.

At CES 2013, LG will proudly showcase the vibrant neo-pop artwork of Romero Britto on its stunning lineup of Ultra HD TVs in the Ultra HD Gallery Zone. His uplifting paintings are visual expressions of pure happiness and hope for humanity. LG’s next generation picture technology is able to convey the artist’s dynamic vision with complete fidelity. Meanwhile, the Ultra HD Content Zone will show CES visitors just how serious LG is about securing top quality, next generation content. The company has already formed an Ultra HD content agreement with Korea’s top broadcaster, KBS (Korea Broadcasting System), and is actively initiating partnerships with other global content providers and broadcasters.

LG TO SHOWCASE CONNECTED, EASY-TO-CONTROL SMART HOME APPLIANCES AT CES 2013

LG Appliances Feature Convenient One Touch Connection

and Smart Control for Smarter, More Connected Lif

Front view of two LG smart washing machines

SEOUL, Jan. 4, 2013 ㅡ At the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show 2013 in Las Vegas, LG Electronics (LG) will showcase its smart appliance lineup, offering enhanced connectivity and greater user convenience. By simply touching their smartphone to the NFC Tag-on symbol on one of LG’s smart appliances, customers can easily register and control their refrigerator, washing machine, robotic vacuum cleaner or range oven. Smart Control also allows the user to effectively manage their appliances with simple voice commands given via smartphone and remotely monitor LG’s efficient Smart Home system away from home.

“This year at CES, LG will demonstrate their advanced, convenience-enhancing smart home appliances,” said Seong-jin Jo, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “LG’s upgraded smart technology gives users the ability to control their appliances, no matter where they are. They can start a load of washing while driving home from work, tell their robotic cleaner to vacuum the floor to receive unplanned guests or bring up a list of food items in the fridge. And LG’s enhanced device-to-device connectivity offers incredible convenience, as the user can control and monitor household appliances through their TV while still watching their favorite show. It’s a smart home for those who want the smart lifestyle.”

LG differentiates its smart appliances with two separate but highly complementary sets of technologies. LG’s four Core Technologies – the Linear Compressor, Inverter Direct Drive, KOMPRESSOR™ and Lightwave – enable outstanding performance and energy savings, while LG’s innovative smart technologies – Smart Manager, Smart Diagnosis™, Smart Access, Smart Adapt and Smart Grid Ready – create greater user convenience.

A Smart Refrigerator to Revolutionize Food Management

Built around the company’s signature Linear Compressor, LG’s smart refrigerator is equipped with a full range of smart technologies. First among them is Smart Manager, which transforms the refrigerator into a complete food management system. Customers can use the LCD panel or their smartphones to check what’s inside without opening the door. With the Smart Manager’s Freshness Tracker, users can input various foods and check their expiration dates. Additionally, the Smart Manager recommends dishes to cook based on which ingredients are available in the refrigerator. The recommended recipe can then be sent to LG’s smart oven.

The Smart Access feature lets users check the status of their LG appliances via smartphone, regardless of their location. So rather than keeping track of a cumbersome shopping list, LG smart refrigerator owners can simply call up a list of what’s in their kitchen fridge directly from the supermarket on their iOS or Android phones.

Smart Shopping[1] is another new feature of Smart Manager that enables online grocery shopping directly from the refrigerator’s LCD panel. Items can be automatically purchased when current supplies are running low or they can be selected and ordered manually. Smart Shopping eliminates the need to ever visit a supermarket again, saving time and increasing convenience.

LG’s unique Health Manager1 feature recommends individual recipes, as well as daily and weekly meal plans, based on the user’s personal profile. The customer’s age, sex, weight and height information are used to determine a BMI Index and this information is then used to create an appropriate, personalized meal plan.

LG’s Smart Diagnosis™ has undergone an impressive upgrade, allowing LG’s smart products to better self-assess problems and inform the user. Through Wi-Fi connection, NFC tagging and audible diagnosis alerts, the customer is quickly made aware of any minor issues, such as when the ice maker is switched off, which helps to limit costly, inconvenient service calls and in-home visits.

LG’s smart refrigerator is also Smart Grid Ready, meaning it can automatically adjust its temperature and settings, creating a practical smart energy-saving solution. LG’s smart refrigerator also offers Delay Defrost Capability, which can reduce power consumption during specific hours of the day. And in addition to being able to catch one’s favorite TV programs on the refrigerator’s crisp display screen, Smart Share allows users to upload and enjoy photos, music, movies, calendars and even check the weather report from the fridge or another LG smart appliance. Finally, instead of just displaying step-by-step recipes, instructional videos show how to prepare recommended dishes right on the refrigerator door.

A Smart Washing Machine with Wi-Fi/NFC Tag Smart Diagnosis™

LG’s smart washing machine incorporates Smart Diagnosis™, Smart Access, Smart Adapt and Smart Grid Ready features. Using Wi-Fi, NFC tagging and audible diagnosis, LG’s Smart Diagnosis™ alerts the user to technical issues, while the Smart Adapt feature makes it possible to download new washing cycle programs — such as Super Rinse or Baby Sanitize — via smartphone or directly from the washing machine’s LCD panel. Using their smartphone, customers can monitor the status of LG’s smart washing machine and remotely control it with voice commands. Wash cycles can also be adjusted, started or paused directly through the owner’s TV.

Smart Access keeps owners in control of their washer regardless of their location. Customers do not need to worry when leaving the house with the washer running as Smart Access makes it possible to monitor the overall status of the washer and dryer. Functions and settings can be remotely administered and adjusted and pop-up messages appear on the user’s smartphone when a wash or dry cycle has been completed.

Smart HOM-BOT : So Much More Than a Vacuum

With a smartphone and Wi-Fi connection, users can remotely schedule the HOM-BOT to clean their home at any time of the day or night. Advanced features mean the HOM-BOT can be controlled with a smartphone using either on-screen controls or voice. HOM-BOT’s camera eye allows for remote home surveillance via a smartphone and even allows owners to speak to family members at home via the HOM-BOT. Like its smart appliance counterparts, the HOM-BOT can also be operated from an LG Smart TV.

A Smarter Oven for Smarter Cooking

LG’s Smart Oven comes equipped with Smart Access, Smart Adapt and Smart Diagnosis™, which opens up a whole new range of smarter cooking possibilities. With a Wi-Fi connection, home chefs can monitor the status of their ovens, search for recipes, set cooking modes and diagnose problems. Even without Wi-Fi, NFC gives users the ability to program the oven for a particular recipe as well as diagnose a problem using their mobile device. What’s more, LG’s smart oven can be voice controlled via a smartphone or LG Smart TV.

SEOUL, Jan. 3, 2013 –- LG Electronics (LG) announced the launch of its 100-Inch Laser TV (Model: HECTO) featuring both Smart TV and Digital TV capabilities. An impressive home cinema system, the 100-Inch Laser TV includes an immersive screen and an external Ultra Short Throw (UST) projection unit capable of displaying images at extremely short distances. The unique system offers Full HD 1080p resolution and incredible contrast as a result of LG’s advanced laser-based illumination system.

“LG’s 100-Inch Laser TV takes projection technology and makes it perfectly suitable for both the board room and the living room,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “In the coming year LG will continue to introduce the most innovative TV products to provide the best productivity and entertainment experience for our customers.”

Brilliant Home Theater Experience

The high-contrast images displayed on the 100-inch screen offer the closest sensation to a cinematic experience. In the past, considerable distance was needed to project such large images. The required space or “long throw” made projecting large images impractical at home. However, by utilizing UST projection unit. The device allows users to place the lens a mere 22 inches (approximately 56 centimeters) from the screen. LG’s Laser TV offers Full HD resolution at 1080p and 10,000,000 : 1 dynamic contrast ratio, rendering vivid and crisp images that pop out in dark as well as lighter environments.

Smart TV Capabilities
The Laser TV supports LG’s Smart TV platform, which includes all the impressive features from its premium models, including Smart World, LG Cloud, Magic Remote and support for Intel’s WiDi technology. The system also includes a digital TV tuner and consumers can just as easily access SNS platforms such as Facebook and VoD services like Netflix in LG’s Premium Content zone. It can also manage personal content, such as pictures, home videos and music libraries via LG Cloud.

LG’s Smart TV platform provides a customizable dashboard and smart connectivity features that streamline access to content from smartphones, laptops, storage devices and the internet. With built-in WiDi and Wi-Fi, content from any compatible external device can be wirelessly shared with the TV. Navigation of services and external devices via the dashboard is made easy with the Magic Remote which utilizes four modes of control – voice, gesture, pointand wheel.

Home Cinema Design

LG’s Laser TV has two 10W built-in speakers embedded in the projection unit to support virtual surround sound for a more authentic cinema experience at home. The device itself features LG’s understated yet stylish Dynamic Arc Design, creating subtly curved surfaces that reach a mere 5.7 inches in height. The 100-inch screen adopts LG’s CINEMA SCREEN Design philosophy which makes it suitable for any interior décor.

Better Reliability, Lower Environmental Impact

The laser-based illumination system uses specialized lamps embedded in the projection unit, delivering superior picture quality while also eliminating the need for mercury. This system can run for 25,000 hours without replacement, five times longer than mercury-based lamps. Eliminating mercury is one way, among many others, that LG is working to make its operations more environmentally friendly, while providing the highest quality consumer electronics.

Exceptional for Small- and Medium-Businesses

The Laser TV also exceeds expectations when used for business applications. Its versatile features make it a prime candidate for video conferencing and advanced multimedia presentations. Video conferencing on a seamless 100-inch screen has the advantage of making all participants feel more involved and close by.

LG BEGINS ROLLOUT OF EAGERLY ANTICIPATED OLED TV

LG Ushers in New Year as First Company to Launch Sales of OLED TV

Front and side views of the LG 55-inch class (54.6-inch diagonal) WRGB OLED TV Model 55EM9700.

SEOUL, Jan. 2, 2013 ㅡ LG Electronics (LG) announced today that it will begin accepting pre-orders for its eagerly-awaited 55-inch class (54.6-inch diagonal) WRGB OLED TV (Model 55EM9700) in South Korea this month with deliveries scheduled to begin next month.

Other markets where the revolutionary LG OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) TV will be available will be announced over the next several weeks along with their respective prices. The announcement comes just days before the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), where an early version of the TV last year was awarded “Best of Show.”

More than 1,400 LG retail stores in South Korea will begin accepting orders from consumers for KRW 11 million (approximately US $10,000) TVs starting Jan. 3 with delivery to commence the first week of February. As the first and only company to announce availability of the next-generation TV technology, LG is prepared to ramp up quickly to take the lead in the OLED segment that is expected to grow to 7.2 million units by 2016, according to Display Search.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to make this announcement at the start of the new year because we believe that OLED will usher in a whole new era of home entertainment,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “Not since color TV was first introduced 60 years ago has there been a more transformational moment. When high definition TV was first introduced 15 years ago, the public’s reaction was ‘wow!’ but when customers see our razor-thin OLED TV for the first time, they’re left speechless. That’s a clear indicator as any that OLED TV is much more than just an incremental improvement to current television technology.”

Only 4 millimeters (0.16 inches) thin and weighing less than 10 kilograms (22 pounds), LG’s OLED TVs produce astoundingly vivid and realistic pictures thanks to its superior WRGB technology. LG’s unique Four-Color Pixel system features a white sub-pixel, which works in conjunction with the conventional red, blue, green setup to create the perfect color output. LG’s exclusive Color Refiner delivers even greater tonal enhancement, resulting in images that are more vibrant and natural than anything seen before. The 55-inch OLED TV also offers an infinite contrast ratio, which maintains optimal contrast levels regardless of ambient brightness or viewing angle.

Even before its launch, LG’s OLED TV was turning heads all over the world. In addition to being named Best of Show at CES 2012, the influential Industrial Designers Society of America recognized the TV with a coveted IDEA Award. Meanwhile, LG received the European Display Achievement 2012-2013 Award from the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA). And to cap it off, LG’s OLED received Korea’s Good Design President Award in October.
