Quarterly Results Reflect Record-High Flat Panel TV Shipments,
Strong Appliances Revenues and Profitable Mobile Business

A picture of LG Twin Towers in the daytime

SEOUL, Feb. 1, 2012 -– LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced fourth quarter 2011 consolidated revenues of KRW 13.81 trillion (USD 12.05 billion) with an operating profit of KRW 23 billion (USD 20 million). Quarter-on-quarter revenue growth reflected strong performance in home entertainment and home appliances with improved operating profit in the mobile and TV businesses.

Unaudited consolidated financial results, based on IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) for the period ending Dec. 31, 2011, showed a net loss of KRW 112 billion (USD 97.73 million) in the quarter, primarily due to a loss on investments in affiliated companies and net financial expense.

Full-year 2011 consolidated revenues reached KRW 54.26 trillion (USD 48.97 billion). Despite a 2011 net loss of KRW 433 billion (USD 391 million), operating profits improved significantly to KRW 280 billion (USD 253 million) from KRW 176 billion (USD 153 million) for full-year 2010.

The LG Home Entertainment Company shipped a record high 8.8 million flat panel TVs from October to December, increasing revenues 17.6 percent from the previous quarter to KRW 6.31 trillion (USD 5.5 billion). While quarterly sales declined modestly from the 2010 period, a strong 2011 holiday season and more premium product mix led by CINEMA 3D TV resulted in an operating profit of KRW 150 billion (USD 130.9 million) in the fourth quarter of 2011. Full-year 2011 home entertainment sales were KRW 22.38 trillion (USD 20.2 billion) with operating profit of KRW 423 billion (USD 382 million). For 2012, LG will continue strengthening its position in 3D and Smart TVs with a broadened line of TVs with Cinema Screen design and quality content.

The LG Mobile Communications Company improved its position in the fourth quarter with operating profits of KRW 12 billion (USD 10 million) and sales of KRW 2.78 trillion (USD 2.42 billion) on the strength of premium smartphones such as Optimus LTE (Long Term Evolution). For full-year 2011, the company posted sales of KRW
11.69 trillion (USD 10.55 billion), a decline of 9.9 percent from 2010. For 2012, the company will continue to strengthen its position by focusing on strategic markets with expanded smartphone lineup led by LTE smartphones.

The LG Home Appliance Company posted record-high quarterly sales of KRW 2.99 trillion (USD 2.6 billion) in the fourth quarter of 2011 with strong growth in Korea, the U.S. and developing countries with more energy-efficient products. Modestly lower operating profit of KRW 65 billion (USD 57 million) in the fourth quarter reflected increased raw material costs and unfavorable foreign exchange rates. Total 2011 home appliance sales were KRW 11.11 trillion (USD 10.03 billion) with operating profit of KRW 295 billion (USD 266 million). New energy efficient appliances being introduced around the world this year are expected to contribute to 2012 revenue growth.

The LG Air Conditioning & Energy Solutions Company reported sales of KRW 680 billion (USD 593 million) in the fourth quarter, essentially flat with the 2010 fourth quarter. An operating loss of KRW 38 billion (USD 33 million) was attributed to negative macroeconomic issues and product mix weakness in developing markets. For full-year 2011, the company recorded air conditioning and energy solutions revenues of KRW 4.56 trillion (USD 4.11 billion) and operating profit of KRW 58 billion (USD 52 million). The company is increasing its focus on high-efficiency air conditioning systems to help drive sales in 2012.

2012 Business Direction
For 2012, LG Electronics is targeting a revenue goal of KRW 57.6 trillion (USD 53.8 billion) with plans to spend KRW 1.6 trillion (USD 1.5 billion) in capital expenditures and to invest KRW 2.6 trillion (USD 2.4 billion) in research and development.

2011 4Q Exchange Rates Explained
LG Electronics unaudited earnings results are based on IFRS. Amounts in Korean won (KRW) are converted into U.S. dollars (USD) at the average rate of the three month period in each corresponding quarter: KRW 1,146 per USD (2011 4Q) and KRW 1,133 per USD (2010 4Q). LG’S GLASSES-FREE CINEMA 3D MONITOR CERTIFIED BY UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES

LG’s D2500 Becomes World’s First Glasses-Free 3D Product to be Certified by
Underwriters Laboratories for its Product Safety

LG and UL representatives are presenting the UL certification letter for LG’s Glasses-free CINEMA 3D monitor.

SEOUL, Jan. 15, 2012 -– LG Electronics’ (LG) glasses-free CINEMA 3D monitor, the D2500, became the world’s first glasses-free 3D monitor to be certified by UL, (Underwriters Laboratories) for product safety, strengthening LG’s leadership in the glasses-free 3D product segment. The certification was officially presented to LG at last week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
“Our glasses-free CINEMA 3D monitors will continue to lead LG in the glasses-free 3D market,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Home Entertainment Company. “We will strengthen our glasses-free 3D product lineup to further distance ourselves from the competition.”
D2500 also received the Certificate of Validation on five different types of tests conducted by UL, including those for 2D Color Characteristic, 3D Color Characteristic, 3D Contrast, 3D Crosstalk and 3D Vertical Viewing Angle. UL is internationally renowned for its product quality and safety certifications of electronics products.
The D2500 uses the Parallax Barrier technology, which creates an illusion of depth based on a series of light-blocking barriers attached to the front of the LCD panel, which ensure the left and right eyes see different images. In order to ensure optimal 3D image quality, the D2500 also uses a head-tracking technology that tracks the user’s head and eye positions in real time through the imbedded web cam, thereby adjusting 3D images in accordance with the user’s viewing angle and distance from the CINEMA 3D monitor.
In addition to the UL certification, the D2500 has also been certified by TUV Rheinland as a glasses-free 3D product. TUV lauded the D2500 as exhibiting excellent contrast ratio and color production.

LG will also lead the Smart TV industry by continuously enhancing its own Smart TV platform, NetCast. Meanwhile, in order to establish a strong foundation to position LG as the global No. 1 TV manufacturer, LG will continue to upgrade multiple types of TVs, including LCD TVs, as well as next generation display products, such as OLED TVs and UD TVs.”
Global No. 1 in 3D TVs
In order to rank No. 1 in the global 3D TV market, LG will expand its large-screen CINEMA 3D Smart TV lineup, release more lightweight 3D glasses and enhance the availability of 3D content.
In total, approximately 70 percent of new LG TVs will be 3D-capable. The quantity of 3D TV models, whether entry-level or premium will be expanded, and the Smart TV function will be included in each TV set as a basic feature.
Furthermore, LG will pursue synergistic efforts with LG affiliates, namely LG Display, LG Chemical and LG Innotek, to continue vigorous technological developments in 3D.
Stronger Leadership in Smart TV
In order to strengthen its Smart TV business, LG will place central emphasis on increasing the competitiveness of its proprietary platform, expanding content and services and innovating the user experience.
Scheduled to be released this year, the new version of NetCast will allow easy use of LG’s Smart TV ecosystem which continues to grow in both scale and sophistication. In order to improve its ease of use, the Integrated Search function has been added to enable a quick and easy one-step search process for known content and apps. Meanwhile, the new Magic Remote maximizes user convenience with the four control modes of Voice Recognition, Wheel, Magic Gesture and Pointing.
LG will continue to form strategic partnerships with 3D content providers, in order to establish the CINEMA 3D Smart TVs as the Smart TVs with the largest 3D content selection.
Enhanced Competitiveness of LCD TVs
LG’s LCD TV product lineup will be noticeably fortified. Through wider application of LG’s CINEMA SCREEN Design, a greater share of LG’s LCD TVs will be equipped with ultra-slim bezels to allow for optimized 3D viewing experiences that are more immersive and comparable to a movie-going experience. Such immersive displays will grow in size, as a greater number of LCD TVs will measure at 60 inches or greater. Meanwhile, LG will also become the industry’s first to launch an 84-inch UD TV whose resolution is four times greater than existing Full HD TVs.
Leadership in OLED TVs
In 2012, LG plans to capture and solidify an early lead in the next generation display market by becoming the industry’s first to launch an OLED TV. Following the 55-inch OLED TV’s inaugural launch in Korea, the next generation TV will be launched in other markets across the world.
Already dubbed “the future of TV,” LG’s OLED TV exhibits unparalleled picture quality and design. Meanwhile, LG’s OLED panel requires low manufacturing costs, as it is a WRGB-type display panel which is most suitable for large-screen TVs. Additionally, LG’s display panels can be manufactured with high productivity, due to their low defect rates.
LG decided to feature a 55-inch display panel for its first OLED TV, due to increasing demand for large-screen TVs and LG’s goal of leading the next generation display market. OLED TVs in the 40-inch range are also scheduled to be launched later on. Their launch dates will be determined in accordance with market developments.
Innovative Supply Chain Management
One of LG’s core objectives is to bring about greater innovation in its supply chain management. LG will accelerate its integrated management of demand forecasts, supply plans, purchasing and manufacturing. LG will also work towards reducing the lead time when working with business partners.
Furthermore, the existing completion type overseas manufacturing facilities will be strengthened, reducing tariffs, increasing logistical efficiency and internalizing core processes. In so doing, LG expects to enhance the competitiveness of its global manufacturing capability.

LG AIMING FOR HOME APPLIANCE LEADERSHIP WITH DOUBLE DIGIT SALES GROWTH IN 2012

LG to Focus More Aggressively on Premium and
Smart Appliances and Greater Localization in Markets

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 12, 2012 –- LG Electronics (LG) revealed its home appliance business strategies for 2012 in a discussion with members of the media at the tail end of this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Moon-bum Shin, Executive Vice President and CEO of LG Home Appliance Company, announced that LG’s primary goal this year is to strengthen its business foundations so that it can achieve the top position in the home appliance category by 2014. In order to achieve the objective, LG plans to enhance its competitive advantage in the refrigerator and washing machine segments and make strong investments in smart appliances. Despite the global economic downturn, LG aims to achieve double digit sales growth rate this year.
“To accelerate our performance and growth amidst the global economic challenges, we will pursue value-oriented qualitative growth with a greater focus on products and businesses with higher profitability potential,” said Mr. Shin. “The competition is more intense but with a proactive investment strategy and progressive development of technologies with solid growth potential, we believe we can elevate the standards of the appliance market.”
On top of that, LG is pushing the boundaries of smart appliances with new and improved Smart ThinQ™ technology, offering enhanced convenience and smarter savings. The upgraded Smart Manager introduced at this year’s CES help consumers maintain their daily nutritional balance and greatly enhance convenience in the kitchen. LG’s unique Health Manager feature offers specific, nutritious meal plans and recipes of up to a week based on a family’s profile and medical conditions. Smart Shopping offers online grocery shopping directly from the refrigerator’s LCD panel, or by smartphone.
LG’s Smart Appliances, combined with the upgraded Smart ThinQ™ technology, will continue to position the company as the leader in consumer-oriented, convenient appliances. Followed by the successful introduction of four smart appliances in 2011, LG plans to gradually extend its lineup of smart appliances in the near future.
In addition, LG will continue to provide upgraded premium lines of the company’s representative energy-efficient yet large-capacity refrigerators equipped with LG’s Linear Compressor and washing machines equipped with the Inverter Direct Drive™ motor, raising the bar for the value-added products market. In 2012, LG aims to be the top selling washing machine brand in the globe for the fifth consecutive year, as it has done since 2008. Refrigerator production is expected to ten million units for the third consecutive year. Their overall productivity is expected to increase with continuous innovation.
And finally, having taken over the reins of LG’s Home Appliance business unit just one month ago, Mr. Shin feels strongly that LG’s success in history has been its ability to meet the diverse needs of consumers in different regional markets. In developed markets, LG will adhere to the energy standards of the North American, European and other developed markets by introducing washing machines equipped with the Inverter Direct Drive™ motor that consume less energy compared to conventional LG models. In emerging markets such as Central America, South America, Southeast Asia and CIS, LG will offer more specialized products that appeal to the specific demands of local consumers, such as refrigerators that operate in homes with uneven electricity supplies.
