LG TAKES 3D TVS TO NEW HEIGHTS WITH NANO FULL BACKLIT LED, SMARTER FUNCTIONS

Next Generation CINEMA 3D TVs from LG get Smarter with
Instant Connectivity, Superior Picture Quality
SEOUL, Aug. 2, 2011 -– Today in Seoul, Korea, LG Electronics (LG) took the wraps off its newest development in home entertainment, the LW980S. The LW980S is a topof-the-class TV that combines LG’s advanced CINEMA 3D technology, Smart TV functions and NANO FULL LED all in one sleek package.
“The LW980S is the crown jewel of TVs as it includes the most advanced technologies and features we’ve developed at LG over the years,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “We’ve set a new benchmark in connectivity, picture quality and sheer viewing enjoyment.”
Addressing one of the big sticking points of conventional 3D TVs, the LW980S comes with comfortable, lightweight glasses that don’t need to be recharged and are easily replaceable. The LW980S tackles the thorny issue of not enough content with a proprietary 2D to 3D conversion technology that guarantees a ready supply of shows and movies in high quality 3D.
CINEMA 3D, the world’s first 3D display technology to receive “Flicker-Free” certification from TÜV and Intertek, two of Europe’s most reputable testing agencies, means that viewers no longer have to worry about the dizziness or disorientation they might experience watching other 3D TVs. Also, Wide Viewing Angle ensures they can watch the TV from practically any position in front of the TV, whether sitting, leaning back or lying down. Together with the affordable glasses, this makes the LW980S perfect for watching in larger groups.
And with 3D Video-on-Demand – available through LG Apps – viewers will never be short of exciting, top-quality content to watch at home. Using the Magic Motion Remote Control, LW980S users get access to all the Premium Content they could want with just a couple of clicks on the mouse-like control. Moreover, Smart Share makes it a cinch to share content between the user’s TV, mobile phone and other digital devices.
The LW980S’s viewing experience is further enhanced by LG’s unique NANO FULL LED lighting technology. Via an extremely thin film printed with minuscule dots, NANO FULL LED disperses light more evenly across the screen, to create brighter, clearer and smoother pictures. TruMotion 400Hz ensures those pictures stay silky smooth, no matter how fast the action.
LG’s LW980S will be shown to international audiences for the first time at Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA Berlin), the global trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances taking place from September 2-7 in Germany.

LG ANNOUNCES SECOND-QUARTER 2011 FINANCIAL RESULTS

Net Profit Turns to Black with High-End Products,
Aggressive Cost Cutting, and Improved Investment Income from Affiliates
A picture of LG Twin Towers in the daytime
SEOUL, July 27, 2011 — LG Electronics (LG) today announced unaudited consolidated financial results based on IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) for the three-month period ending June 30, 2011. The turnaround in net profit reflected steady improvements in its businesses and successful cost-reduction efforts, in line with analysts’ estimates.
Sales and Profit
LG posted consolidated second quarter 2011 revenues of KRW 14.4 trillion (USD 13.3 billion) a 9.3 percent increase from the previous quarter. After two consecutive quarters of losses, LG turned the corner with a net profit of KRW 108 billion (USD 99.6 million). LG reported an operating profit of KRW 158 billion (USD 145.8 million) this quarter, a 21 percent increase from the previous quarter and a 25 percent increase from the previous year, thanks to higher profitability for the TV business and reduced losses in handsets.
LG Home Entertainment Company posted a quarter-over-quarter sales increase of 2.7 percent to KRW 5.4 trillion (USD 5.0 billion) thanks to higher revenues from LED LCD TVs, its new CINEMA 3D TVs and general business growth in developing markets. The HE Company posted a KRW 90 billion (USD 83.0 million) operating profit in the second quarter, a 10 percent increase over the previous quarter as a result of better product mix and cost controls. The company expects to see sales continue to rise with the anticipated strong consumer acceptance of its film patterned retarder (FPR) CINEMA 3D TVs as well as smart TVs.
LG Mobile Communications Company reported an 11.6 percent increase in sales in the second quarter compared to the previous quarter, to KRW 3.25 trillion (USD 3.0 billion). While recording a loss of KRW 54 billion (USD 49.8 million), operating income showed strong improvement, reducing losses from the previous quarter by almost half. The company continues to strengthen its global competitiveness by launching a mix of competitive smartphones and its continued investment in R&D.
LG Home Appliance Company posted record-high quarterly sales of KRW 2.9 trillion (USD 2.7 billion) from April to June 2011, a 6.9 percent increase from the previous quarter and a 6.0 percent increase year-over-year, primarily due to strong sales in emerging markets. Although revenue grew and product offerings improved, operating profit of KRW 51 billion (USD 47.1 million) reflected an increase in raw material costs, appreciation of the Korean won and greater market competition. The Home Appliance Company intends to maintain its market leadership by introducing more energy-efficient and “smarter” products in the second half while continuing to control costs.
LG Air Conditioning and Energy Solution Company grew its second quarter revenues by 29.2 percent quarter-over-quarter and 15.3 percent year-over-year to KRW 1.9 trillion (USD 1.7 billion) by focusing on product quality and launching new products with superior features. The company posted a KRW 44 billion (USD 40.6 million) operating profit, a 13 percent increase quarter-over-quarter. Operating profit margin was 2.3 percent in light of higher raw material costs and unfavorable foreign exchange rates. Although the market is entering its slow season, the company still expects demand to increase in key strategic regions.
2011 3Q Business Direction and Prospects
LG Electronics expects to see modest growth year-over-year in the third quarter of 2011 with new product launches in major categories and creative marketing activities across its various 3D products. For the long-term, the company will continue to strengthen profitability through aggressive cost innovation and strategic investments in existing as well as new business areas.
2011 2Q Exchange Rates Explained
LG Electronics unaudited earnings results are based on IFRS. Amounts in Korean won (KRW) are converted into US Dollars (USD) at the average rate of the three month period in each corresponding quarter: KRW 1,084 per USD (2011 2Q) and KRW 1,163 per USD (2010 2Q).
Earnings Conference and Conference Call
LG Electronics will hold a Korean-language earnings news conference on July 27, 2011 at 16:00 Korea Standard Time at the Woori Investment & Securities Building (4F, Woori Art Hall, 23-4 Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, Korea). LG TAKES LEADING ROLE IN ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAMS

Programs Aim to Enhance Product Recycling, Hazardous Substance Management,
Energy Conservation, and Environmental Stewardship
SEOUL, July 21, 2011 -– LG Electronics (LG) is furthering its commitment to “Green Management” by empowering its business units and subsidiaries to take greater responsibility for the entire lifecycle of LG’s products, from production to disposal.
LG has joined the Basel Action Network (BAN), a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Seattle, Wash. that monitors the trade of toxic products and fights environmental degradation. LG and BAN plan to work together to expand the scope of “e-Steward Enterprise,” a program designed to encourage the responsible disposal of electronic goods, which has previously been limited to North America and the UK. As part of the agreement, LG and BAN hope to jointly develop and participate in the “Global e-Stewards Enterprise” program, enabling companies to responsibly recycle electronic e-waste worldwide.
BAN is the best-known NGO in North America dealing with the verification of waste disposal companies, developing programs for toxin management and the surveillance of hazardous articles. The aim of  the agreement between LG and BAN is to further protect the environment by sharing LG’s knowledge with respect to cutting-edge electronics development processes and BAN’s unique stewardship capabilities.
Earlier this year, LG was named exclusive consumer electronics partner of the “Keep America Beautiful” (KAB) environmental organization in the United States. LG is a top national sponsor of KAB’s Great American Cleanup and America Recycles Day. Approximately 1.5 million tons of used electronics have already been collected this year with the help of a million participants.
According to LG’s Environment Report released this week, almost 200,000 tons of used electronics products had been collected globally, an increase of 19 percent over the previous year. LG is cooperating with the city of Ulsan, a major industrial and manufacturing center in Korea, to collect used electronics parts free of charge. Over the first half of 2011, LG collected 279 tons, including 2,240 refrigerators, 115 washing machines and 3,545 mobile phones, as well as various other products in Ulsan.
What’s more, LG is the first company in Korea to have signed a collection agreement with a local government. In this case, Ulsan takes responsibility for collecting the used electronics for free and LG takes on the task of processing them using eco-friendly methods. This agreement is a small but important piece of LG’s overall plan to increase the quantity of used electronics goods year by year, while improving the company’s resource recycling capabilities and management of hazardous substances.
LG is also leading the way in bringing the most high efficiency products to market. The company was recently recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy for having eight LG televisions and five LG washing machines — more than any other manufacturer — qualify for the “ENERGY STAR® Most Efficient” label. The ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation recognizes the most efficient products among those that qualify for the ENERGY STAR.
“In the 21st Century, multinational companies like LG must step up and take a greater role in working to protect the environment. This commitment is not just about recycling; it is about making changes to the entire production process, right from the factory floor all the way to the final disposal of the product,” said Jong-min, Shin, Vice President of LG’s Eco Strategy Team. “LG understands this commitment and what it means to our customers, and the company is working hard to become a global leader in this regard.”

LG LEADING THE WAY IN GLASSES-FREE 3D

LG D2000 Monitor with Eye-tracking Technology Delivers
Naked Eye 3D With Ultimate Comfort and Convenience
A model poses with LG’s glasses-free 3D monitors (model D2000).
# UPDATE: Model number is D2000 in all markets other than Korea. Korea model number is DX2000.
SEOUL, July, 13, 2011 –- LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled the world’s first glassesfree monitor utilizing eye-tracking technology to maintain an optimal 3D image from a range of viewing angles. The 20-inch D2000 monitor was developed as a fully functional entertainment display capable of reproducing games, movies and images in all their realistic glory.
“With a full lineup of 3D TVs, laptops, projectors and smartphones, LG Electronics is by far and away the industry leader in all things 3D.” said Si-hwan Park, Vice President of the Monitor Division at LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “LG’s position has always been that 3D will and must eventually function without glasses. The D2000 is a look at what the future has in store.”
The D2000’s 3D effect comes courtesy of glasses-free parallax barrier 3D technology, and the application of the world’s first eye-tracking feature to the monitor. The combination of parallax barrier and eye-tracking in a single unit promises to open up new horizons for glasses-free 3D products.
Existing glasses-free 3D technologies generally require viewers to stay within a tightly restricted angle and distance to perceive the 3D images. However, the D2000 has done much to resolve this issue, allowing viewer much freer movement and more comfortable viewing. Eye tracking in the D2000 works via a special camera sensor attached to the monitor which detects changes in the user’s eye position in real-time. With this information, the monitor calculates the angle and position of the viewer and adjusts the displayed image for the optimal 3D effect.
In addition to playing back existing 3D content, the D2000 has a highly refined 2D to 3D conversion feature which adds a new dimension to existing movies and game playing.
The D2000, available in Korea this month, will be introduced in other markets around the world in the latter part of 2011.

LG CINEMA 3D TV RECEIVES FULL HD CERTIFICATION

LG CINEMA 3D Continues to Gain Market Share as More and More
Consumers Realize Benefits of Polarized Glasses Over Shutter Glasses
A VDE representative and Havis Kwon, president and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company, hold up the VDE certificate.
SEOUL, July 10, 2011 — LG Electronics (LG) announced that its CINEMA 3D TV (47LW570S-ZD) has been certified FULL HD in 3D-Mode by VDE, one of the largest technical and scientific international associations in Europe.
“This latest certification proves beyond all doubt that LG’s CINEMA 3D TVs, which already provide the most comfortable 3D viewing experience, deliver 3D in FULL HD,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “We’re pleased to say we can now put this debate to rest.”
The dispute over LG’s TV had centered on whether the company’s CINEMA 3D TVs truly qualified as FULL HD, defined as a horizontal image containing 1,080 lines of definition. LG’s Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology, used on the CINEMA 3D TVs, creates the perception of 3D depth by delivering two 540 line images, one for each eye, that are then combined via the glasses to create a unified 1080p image. The ruling from the VDE delivers the clearest affirmation to date of the validity of LG’s FPR technology.
CINEMA 3D TV has already received a string of endorsements from other institutions and agencies. The China Electronic Chamber of Commerce ruled that both the vertical and horizontal resolution of LG CINEMA 3D TVs meet the 1080p TV standard, a position that allows LG to use the FULL HD logo in China. TÜV and Intertek, two top European quality assurance and safety certification agencies, awarded LG’s CINEMA 3D TVs “Flicker-Free” certification, providing official backing for LG’s sharp 3D images.
Furthermore, a top US consumer magazine recently named an LG CINEMA 3D TV the best 3D TV in the US market. The review noted clear advantages for the TV’s viewing angle, 3D glasses and bright images.

LG AND IVI JOIN HANDS TO DELIVER HOPE TO CHILDREN IN ETHIOPIA THROUGH VACCINATION

Vaccination Program Aims to Cut Vicious Circle of Poverty and Disease in Ethiopia

Anthony Flynn, deputy director-general of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI), Abraham Assefa, head of Armaer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI), Na Won-woo, president of LG Electronics Kenya, and Ahmed Emano Mustafa, director of the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia take a picture together to implement a mass vaccination program for children in Ethiopia

SEOUL, Jul. 8 .2011 –- LG Electronics (LG) has joined with the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) and the Armauer Hansen Research Institute and the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia to implement a mass vaccination program for children in Ethiopia. LG and the IVI jointly launched the program on July 5 in Ethiopia’s capital city of Addis Ababa.

Aiming to help break the cycle of poverty and disease that affects many children in Ethiopia, LG is coordinating a fundraising campaign inside the company via social media. LG has also pledged to donate 1,000 Korean Won for every comment left on LG’s social media sites, including its blog, Facebook and Twitter pages.

“This program is part of a larger campaign that strives to deliver on our message of ‘Hope for Life is Good,’” said Won-woo Na, President of LG’s Kenya subsidiary. “We want to instill hope and aspiration that by beating preventable diseases, we can end the cycle of poverty and disease and give children in Ethiopia the opportunities they so rightly deserve.”

Since last year, LG has been focusing all of its efforts in Ethiopia by working with the IVI, a Korea-based international organization devoted to developing new vaccines for developing countries. The IVI has been providing technical support to the Ethiopian government in order to strengthen the healthcare system and to better address the wide-ranging logistical and infrastructure requirements needed to successfully implement a large-scale vaccination program in Ethiopia. The program’s aim is to dramatically reduce the number of children in Africa – as many as 120,000 a year according to the WHO – who die every year due to acute watery diarrhea (AWD), mainly from drinking contaminated water. Immunizing children against AWD is among the most effective ways to prevent needless deaths and suffering. LG expects to immunize 20,000 Ethio-pian children from 2012 to 2013.

The games received wide acclaim in their original versions and were specifically chosen for the realism and immersive game play they would provide when digitally re-mastered into S-3D.

“The most recent data shows iOS and Android devices are capturing a growing part of the portable gaming market by revenue,” said Michel Guillemot, President of Gameloft. “With the next generation of smartphones offering 3D capabilities, the bar has been raised to a new height. On the Optimus 3D, we’re able to offer our most popular titles to an entirely new audience at very competitive price points.”

“The convergence of communication, the internet and entertainment all on one device was what made smartphones so popular so quickly,” added LG’s Dr. Park. “3D on smartphones is what color was to television – it introduces an entirely new level of viewing enjoyment. Playing a Gameloft 3D title on an LG Optimus 3D is simply taking that enjoyment and multiplying it by a factor of ten. It’s an experience that’s guaranteed to put a smile on anyone’s face.”

The LG Optimus 3D, the world’s first smartphone with full 3D and Tri-Dual (dual-core, dual-channel, dual-memory) architecture, was designed for maximum performance and efficiency, ideal for the high processing power required for gaming and viewing videos. The LG Optimus 3D is currently being introduced in over 60 markets around the world. LG TAKES ENTERTAINMENT TO A NEW DIMENSION WITH THE SHARPEST, MOST ADVANCED PERSONAL 3D HDTV YET

DM50D Includes All the Advantages of LG’s Industry-Changing 3D TVs in your Room

A model wearing 3D glasses breaking out of the LG 3D monitor’s (DM50D) display.

Seoul, Jun. 28, 2011 — LG Electronics (LG) today introduces its next generation DM50D monitor, which includes all the advantages found on LG’s game-changing CINEMA 3D TVs in a form factor that fits easily on a desktop. The flicker-free, bright images and lightweight 3D glasses that customers have come to associate with CINEMA 3D can all be found on the DM50D, including Full HDTV. The DM50D is the perfect platform for 3D gaming and movie watching.
“Our consumer research showed that while interest in 3D monitors was high, there were certain misgivings about the cumbersome glasses, reported health concerns and lack of 3D content,” said Si-hwan Park, vice president of the monitor division at LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “Through CINEMA 3D technology, the DM50D addresses all of these concerns, leaving users free to be completely immersed in the best quality 3D content and gaming on any monitor on the market today.”
Like CINEMA 3D TVs, the DM50D monitor is also “Flicker Free” certified by European quality assurance agencies TÜV and Intertek. As well as producing wonderfully smooth 3D images, the lack of flicker and low crosstalk means an end to the dizziness and headaches users could sometimes experience on conventional 3D screens.
The DM50D boasts the ultimate in 3D brightness, more than double that of conventional 3D monitors. What’s more, the glasses – also available as a clip-on for corrective glasses wearers – are extremely light, have no batteries and never need to be recharged. This makes them very comfortable to wear even for long work sessions or movie marathons. The DM50D 3D glasses are very affordably priced and are compatible with all of CINEMA 3D products. The DM50D also comes with a built-in 2D to 3D conversion feature so viewers can always watch top-quality 3D content on the fly. The conversion function works whether or not the monitor is connected to a PC and kicks in automatically on games to deliver the ultimate in 3D entertainment.
What’s more, the DM50D boasts Full HDTV picture quality with a built-in DTV tuner that supports MPEG4, DVBC, DVBT and other digital TV broadcasting signals. Real surround sound delivers some of the fullest and vivid sound on any monitor and HDMI makes it a cinch to connect the DM50D to 3D games consoles, set-top boxes and more. And USB Quick View HD Play allows for the direct viewing of videos and photos through a USB flash drive even when the PC is off, freeing users from long boot-up times.
LG’s DM50D monitor will be available in Europe beginning in July, to be followed by additional markets worldwide.

LG RECEIVES ECO-FRIENDLY LABELING IN EUROPE

As the First 3D TV in Europe to Earn the Carbon Reduction Label,
LG is Poised to Become Even More Relevant in the Minds of Consumers
Front view of the LG CINEMA 3D TV.

Seoul, Jun. 26, 2011 — LG Electronics’ (LG) 47LW5500-ZE and 47LW550T-ZE CINEMA 3D TVs have become the first TVs in Europe to receive the Carbon Reduction Label, a low carbon footprint labelling scheme managed by the Carbon Trust, a nonprofit company set up in 2001 with the support of the UK Government.

“This certification marks an important step forward for us in terms of improving our environmental brand image in Europe,” said Il-geun Kwon, head of LG’s LCD TV R&D Lab. “Europe is the world’s largest TV market so it is important that LG be able to communicate to its European consumers our commitment to developing world-class products using the most responsible materials and manufacturing processes.”

The Carbon Reduction Label reflects LG’s pledge to reduce greenhouse gases. It also demonstrates the progress and commitment the Korean company made to reduce the amount of carbon associated with the entire lifespan of its products, from production to distribution to use. Equally important, the award reflects the changing priorities of LG’s customers — both in Europe and elsewhere — to put greater emphasis on environmentally-responsible manufacturing.

With climate change and the environment playing a more important role in consumers’purchasing decisions, eco-friendly products have a clear competitive advantage. LG is focusing heavily on reducing the power consumption of its TVs and is also evaluating its supply and distribution chains and the way the company buys components. LG will continue to encourage contractors to utilize “low-coal” goods and more energy efficient manufacturing processes.

Through innovations such as Edge LED and the Local Dimming System, the 47LW5500-ZE and 47LW550T-ZE use more than 30 percent less energy compared to conventional models in the same class. And with Smart Energy Saving, LG’s own energy reduction technology, the LCD TVs further reduce power consumption by up to 70 percent. This translates into a reduction of 795kg of carbon dioxide emissions over the average lifespan of a TV in Europe (7.2 years). This is the equivalent of 250 liters of diesel fuel.

Thanks to their slim designs, LG’s certified CINEMA 3D TVs also use 37 percent less packing volume than other similar models. This reduction further helps reduce LG’s carbon footprint, particularly in terms of physical distribution costs per unit.

LG’S STYLISH HOM-BOT RECOGNIZED FOR INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY AND GREAT DESIGN

Smart Vacuum Cleaning Robot Named Finalist in IERA and Winner of Red Dot

SEOUL, Jun. 23 2011 -– LG Electronics’ (LG) HOM-BOT Smart Vacuum Cleaning Robot was recognized as a finalist at the 7th Annual Invention and Entrepreneurship Award in Robotics and Automation (IERA). Between the IERA recognition and a red dot design award, the HOM-BOT is the only robotic cleaner in the world to be honored by both prestigious organizations.
A co-sponsored activity between the International Federation of Robotics and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, the purpose of the IERA award is to highlight and honor the achievements of inventors with value creating ideas and entrepreneurs who propel those ideas into world-class products. The IERA underlines the determination of both the International Federation of Robotics and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society to promote stronger collaboration between robotics science and the robotics industry.
“We’re honored by this recognition because the HOM-BOT is all about using technology to make housework less inconvenient,” said Young-ha Lee, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “The right balance of technology and functionality is what makes LG products unique and HOM-BOT is a shining example.”
The HOM-BOT boasts an impressive array of cutting-edge features. The Dual Eye Camera Sensor is the first such device to be utilized in a vacuum cleaner and uses one lens on the top fascia and one on the bottom to provide more comprehensive visual data. The upper camera is also tasked with simultaneously mapping and remembering floor plans, while the lower camera is equipped with an Optical Flow Sensor that captures a myriad of surface images per second, providing distance information and plotting paths for the HOM-BOT to follow.
Ultrasonic and infrared sensors identify obstacles and work to prevent the redundant bump-and-retreat action. Failsafe systems are built in, so in the event that the HOMBOT does run into an obstacle, the accelerometer and gyro sensor allow the cleaner to react accordingly. The result of this compilation of sensors and programming is a vacuum that avoids the pitfalls rival systems often suffer from. Moreover, the HOM-BOT is pleasingly quiet, with noise levels reduced to just 60dB.
In addition to its technological achievement, HOM-BOT was named a winner of a red dot design award, one of the most prestigious in the industry. Since 1955, the Essen Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen has annually selected outstanding design quality and paid official tribute to the award-winning products in an exhibition. The 2011 competition received 4,433 products from 1,700 companies, entered from 60 different countries. The official award ceremony will be held in Essen, Germany on July 4.

LG LAUNCHES WORLD’S FASTEST A4 COLOR DESKTOP PRINTER POWERED BY MEMJET

Prints High-Quality Color Documents at Astounding Speeds

Two models introducing the LG A4 color desktop printer LG Machjet.

SEOUL, June 21, 2011 — LG Electronics (LG) and Memjet, a global provider of high-speed color printing technologies, today jointly introduced Memjet’s breakthrough office printing technology into the Korean market. The Machjet LPP6010N, the world’s fastest A4 color desktop printer, will be available this month through authorized LG resellers and channel partners.
Until now, printing technology has been limited to laser and traditional inkjet systems. The Machjet represents an entirely new category of printing technology that makes possible high-quality color printing at never-before seen speeds and quality. Memjet’s ground-breaking, high-density page-wide printheads and components enable printers to operate twice as fast but at only half the cost to run versus traditional color
office printers, on average.
“LG prides itself on launching truly innovative products and is pleased to bring the world’s fastest A4 color desktop printers powered by Memjet’s game-changing printing technology to the Korean market,” said Sihwan Park, vice president of LG Electronics’ monitors and printers business unit. “The Machjet delivers completely new levels of color performance and affordability and uses significantly less energy versus laser printers.”
The Machjet leapfrogs over current printers with high-quality color outputs in 1600×800 dpi resolution at 60 pages per minute. Memjet’s proprietary Page Straight Array (PSA) Technology packs more than 70,000 ink nozzles on a single printhead — 17 times the nozzle density of traditional printheads — allowing the Machjet to deliver more than 700 million drops of ink per second on a page.
Len Lauer, president and CEO of Memjet, said: “Combining Memjet’s core technology benefits with LG’s brand, corporate capabilities and vast distribution network, LG is creating exciting new value for Korean customers looking to be more efficient and cost effective in their office printing.”
Printers that are “powered by Memjet” are also energy efficient and less expensive to operate. While competitive color laser printers use on average approximately 600W of electricity during normal operations, the Machjet consumes just 32W. Costs are further reduced via the Machjet’s Hyper Small Drop Technology. The Machjet takes advantage of smaller droplets to minimize the amount of ink required to render clean, crisp text and images at high speed. This technology results in faster-drying ink and reduces the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) by up to 70 percent when compared to competitive color laser printers.
Such innovation has given Memjet a significant intellectual property position in the industry with more than 3,000 approved global patents and another 2,000 pending.
