Seoul, Jun. 28, 2011 — LG Electronics (LG) today introduces its next generation DM50D monitor, which includes all the advantages found on LG’s game-changing CINEMA 3D TVs in a form factor that fits easily on a desktop. The flicker-free, bright images and lightweight 3D glasses that customers have come to associate with CINEMA 3D can all be found on the DM50D, including Full HDTV. The DM50D is the perfect platform for 3D gaming and movie watching.
“Our consumer research showed that while interest in 3D monitors was high, there were certain misgivings about the cumbersome glasses, reported health concerns and lack of 3D content,” said Si-hwan Park, vice president of the monitor division at LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “Through CINEMA 3D technology, the DM50D addresses all of these concerns, leaving users free to be completely immersed in the best quality 3D content and gaming on any monitor on the market today.”
Like CINEMA 3D TVs, the DM50D monitor is also “Flicker Free” certified by European quality assurance agencies TÜV and Intertek. As well as producing wonderfully smooth 3D images, the lack of flicker and low crosstalk means an end to the dizziness and headaches users could sometimes experience on conventional 3D screens.
The DM50D boasts the ultimate in 3D brightness, more than double that of conventional 3D monitors. What’s more, the glasses – also available as a clip-on for corrective glasses wearers – are extremely light, have no batteries and never need to be recharged. This makes them very comfortable to wear even for long work sessions or movie marathons. The DM50D 3D glasses are very affordably priced and are compatible with all of CINEMA 3D products. The DM50D also comes with a built-in 2D to 3D conversion feature so viewers can always watch top-quality 3D content on the fly. The conversion function works whether or not the monitor is connected to a PC and kicks in automatically on games to deliver the ultimate in 3D entertainment.
What’s more, the DM50D boasts Full HDTV picture quality with a built-in DTV tuner that supports MPEG4, DVBC, DVBT and other digital TV broadcasting signals. Real surround sound delivers some of the fullest and vivid sound on any monitor and HDMI makes it a cinch to connect the DM50D to 3D games consoles, set-top boxes and more. And USB Quick View HD Play allows for the direct viewing of videos and photos through a USB flash drive even when the PC is off, freeing users from long boot-up times.
LG’s DM50D monitor will be available in Europe beginning in July, to be followed by additional markets worldwide.

LG RECEIVES ECO-FRIENDLY LABELING IN EUROPE

As the First 3D TV in Europe to Earn the Carbon Reduction Label,
LG is Poised to Become Even More Relevant in the Minds of Consumers
Front view of the LG CINEMA 3D TV.

Seoul, Jun. 26, 2011 — LG Electronics’ (LG) 47LW5500-ZE and 47LW550T-ZE CINEMA 3D TVs have become the first TVs in Europe to receive the Carbon Reduction Label, a low carbon footprint labelling scheme managed by the Carbon Trust, a nonprofit company set up in 2001 with the support of the UK Government.

“This certification marks an important step forward for us in terms of improving our environmental brand image in Europe,” said Il-geun Kwon, head of LG’s LCD TV R&D Lab. “Europe is the world’s largest TV market so it is important that LG be able to communicate to its European consumers our commitment to developing world-class products using the most responsible materials and manufacturing processes.”

The Carbon Reduction Label reflects LG’s pledge to reduce greenhouse gases. It also demonstrates the progress and commitment the Korean company made to reduce the amount of carbon associated with the entire lifespan of its products, from production to distribution to use. Equally important, the award reflects the changing priorities of LG’s customers — both in Europe and elsewhere — to put greater emphasis on environmentally-responsible manufacturing.

With climate change and the environment playing a more important role in consumers’purchasing decisions, eco-friendly products have a clear competitive advantage. LG is focusing heavily on reducing the power consumption of its TVs and is also evaluating its supply and distribution chains and the way the company buys components. LG will continue to encourage contractors to utilize “low-coal” goods and more energy efficient manufacturing processes.

Through innovations such as Edge LED and the Local Dimming System, the 47LW5500-ZE and 47LW550T-ZE use more than 30 percent less energy compared to conventional models in the same class. And with Smart Energy Saving, LG’s own energy reduction technology, the LCD TVs further reduce power consumption by up to 70 percent. This translates into a reduction of 795kg of carbon dioxide emissions over the average lifespan of a TV in Europe (7.2 years). This is the equivalent of 250 liters of diesel fuel.

Thanks to their slim designs, LG’s certified CINEMA 3D TVs also use 37 percent less packing volume than other similar models. This reduction further helps reduce LG’s carbon footprint, particularly in terms of physical distribution costs per unit.

LG’S STYLISH HOM-BOT RECOGNIZED FOR INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY AND GREAT DESIGN

Smart Vacuum Cleaning Robot Named Finalist in IERA and Winner of Red Dot

Top view of the LG HOM-BOT smart vacuum cleaning robot in its docking station with its remote-control

SEOUL, Jun. 23 2011 -– LG Electronics’ (LG) HOM-BOT Smart Vacuum Cleaning Robot was recognized as a finalist at the 7th Annual Invention and Entrepreneurship Award in Robotics and Automation (IERA). Between the IERA recognition and a red dot design award, the HOM-BOT is the only robotic cleaner in the world to be honored by both prestigious organizations.
A co-sponsored activity between the International Federation of Robotics and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, the purpose of the IERA award is to highlight and honor the achievements of inventors with value creating ideas and entrepreneurs who propel those ideas into world-class products. The IERA underlines the determination of both the International Federation of Robotics and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society to promote stronger collaboration between robotics science and the robotics industry.
“We’re honored by this recognition because the HOM-BOT is all about using technology to make housework less inconvenient,” said Young-ha Lee, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “The right balance of technology and functionality is what makes LG products unique and HOM-BOT is a shining example.”
The HOM-BOT boasts an impressive array of cutting-edge features. The Dual Eye Camera Sensor is the first such device to be utilized in a vacuum cleaner and uses one lens on the top fascia and one on the bottom to provide more comprehensive visual data. The upper camera is also tasked with simultaneously mapping and remembering floor plans, while the lower camera is equipped with an Optical Flow Sensor that captures a myriad of surface images per second, providing distance information and plotting paths for the HOM-BOT to follow.
Ultrasonic and infrared sensors identify obstacles and work to prevent the redundant bump-and-retreat action. Failsafe systems are built in, so in the event that the HOMBOT does run into an obstacle, the accelerometer and gyro sensor allow the cleaner to react accordingly. The result of this compilation of sensors and programming is a vacuum that avoids the pitfalls rival systems often suffer from. Moreover, the HOM-BOT is pleasingly quiet, with noise levels reduced to just 60dB.
In addition to its technological achievement, HOM-BOT was named a winner of a red dot design award, one of the most prestigious in the industry. Since 1955, the Essen Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen has annually selected outstanding design quality and paid official tribute to the award-winning products in an exhibition. The 2011 competition received 4,433 products from 1,700 companies, entered from 60 different countries. The official award ceremony will be held in Essen, Germany on July 4.

LG LAUNCHES WORLD’S FASTEST A4 COLOR DESKTOP PRINTER POWERED BY MEMJET

Prints High-Quality Color Documents at Astounding Speeds

Two models introducing the LG A4 color desktop printer LG Machjet.

SEOUL, June 21, 2011 — LG Electronics (LG) and Memjet, a global provider of high-speed color printing technologies, today jointly introduced Memjet’s breakthrough office printing technology into the Korean market. The Machjet LPP6010N, the world’s fastest A4 color desktop printer, will be available this month through authorized LG resellers and channel partners.
Until now, printing technology has been limited to laser and traditional inkjet systems. The Machjet represents an entirely new category of printing technology that makes possible high-quality color printing at never-before seen speeds and quality. Memjet’s ground-breaking, high-density page-wide printheads and components enable printers to operate twice as fast but at only half the cost to run versus traditional color
office printers, on average.
“LG prides itself on launching truly innovative products and is pleased to bring the world’s fastest A4 color desktop printers powered by Memjet’s game-changing printing technology to the Korean market,” said Sihwan Park, vice president of LG Electronics’ monitors and printers business unit. “The Machjet delivers completely new levels of color performance and affordability and uses significantly less energy versus laser printers.”
The Machjet leapfrogs over current printers with high-quality color outputs in 1600×800 dpi resolution at 60 pages per minute. Memjet’s proprietary Page Straight Array (PSA) Technology packs more than 70,000 ink nozzles on a single printhead — 17 times the nozzle density of traditional printheads — allowing the Machjet to deliver more than 700 million drops of ink per second on a page.
Len Lauer, president and CEO of Memjet, said: “Combining Memjet’s core technology benefits with LG’s brand, corporate capabilities and vast distribution network, LG is creating exciting new value for Korean customers looking to be more efficient and cost effective in their office printing.”
Printers that are “powered by Memjet” are also energy efficient and less expensive to operate. While competitive color laser printers use on average approximately 600W of electricity during normal operations, the Machjet consumes just 32W. Costs are further reduced via the Machjet’s Hyper Small Drop Technology. The Machjet takes advantage of smaller droplets to minimize the amount of ink required to render clean, crisp text and images at high speed. This technology results in faster-drying ink and reduces the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) by up to 70 percent when compared to competitive color laser printers.
Such innovation has given Memjet a significant intellectual property position in the industry with more than 3,000 approved global patents and another 2,000 pending.

LG AND INTEL INTRODUCE FIRST ALL-IN-ONE PC WITH FPR DISPLAY AND IPS SCREEN TECHNOLOGY

LG V300 Offers Convenient 3D with
the Power of 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors
A model is posing with the LG all-in-one PC model V3001.
SEOUL, May. 31, 2011 –- LG Electronics (LG) will be unveiling its first all-in-one PC which will feature the innovative Film-type Patterned Retarder (FPR) display, found in its popular CINEMA 3D TVs. The LG V300, developed in partnership with Intel, will be unveiled at Computex 2011, Asia’s largest IT exhibition, in Taipei from May 31 to June 4.
The LG V300 will come with an impressive list of features including 2nd Generation Intel Core processors, 3D FPR display, In Plane Switch (IPS) screen technology that creates a stunning 178-degree viewing angle and a triple camera system for superb multitouch capability.
“The combination of the newest Intel Core processor and the FPR display in the LG V300 is going to create a new level of performance and viewing experience in a PC,” said J.J. Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of the LG Electronics PC Business Unit. “With millions of homes now using their PCs as entertainment hubs, marrying the best from the computing world with the best from the display world was the next natural
step in the evolution of the PC.”
“2nd Generation Intel Core processor paves the way for great all-in-one systems like LG Electronics new V300. ” said Mooly Eden, Vice President and General Manager of Intel PC Client Group. “The V300 combines LG Electronics’ display technology with 2nd Generation Intel Core’s great performance and built-in visuals to create an awesome PC experience. ”
Better 3D, No Discomfort
The 23-inch 3D Full HD LED monitor on the LG V300 offers vivid and crisp 3D images with less crosstalk and flicker. And because FPR does not require glasses to sync with an emitter, heavy shutter-type glasses are a thing of the past. Instead, the LG V300 comes with two sets of lightweight polarized glasses for a more comfortable and enjoyable 3D experience. Furthermore, the viewing experience on previous 3D displays was negatively affected by non-perpendicular viewing angles. This problem has largely been eliminated with the LG V300’s IPS technology, which allows for an impressive 178-degree viewing angle. The system operates a Color Shift configuration that accurately renders colors and images for viewers not directly facing the screen.
Minimalism Is In
LG’s engineering team reduced the thickness of the LG V300’s active display to a mere 44.65mm, which is up to 65 percent slimmer than other leading models. This focus on reducing unnecessary bulk was then incorporated into LG’s concept of minimalism. With a wireless keyboard and mouse, the design requires only a single power cable, eliminating clutter and tangled cords. The end effect is a sleek, clean appearance that
fits elegantly into any interior décor.
An Enhanced Multi-touch Experience with a Triple Camera System
With three individual camera sensors to provide a more accurate multi-touch functionality, LG’s new PC brings a higher level of precision to the touchscreen experience. The user interface has also been optimized to be as intuitive as possible, and the interface itself is supported with easy-to-use applications. The final result is a smooth yet sophisticated multi-touch interaction between the LG V300 and the user, free from ghosting and glitches.
The LG V300 also includes full support for Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) to enable sharing of data between devices as well as Intel’s Wireless Display, also known as ‘Wi-Di’ to wirelessly stream content to a TV. LG V300 will launch in Korea in July followed by markets in Europe, Middle East and
Asia.

LG LAUNCHES EU’S FIRST A++ ENERGY RATED SIDE-BY-SIDE FRIDGE WITH BUMPER CAPACITY, SMART FUNCTIONS

New Model Boasts Top Energy Efficiency, Enhanced Freshness
and Industry-Leading Smart Features
Front view of the LG Side-by-Side Refrigerator placed in a modern kitchen
Seoul, May 27, 2011 — LG Electronics (LG) has unveiled its brand new 614-liter side-by-side refrigerator, which boasts the first A++ energy-efficiency rating1 in the European Union (EU) for any fridge equipped with both a dispenser and a Home-Bar. With an enlarged usable inner space, the new fridge packs a raft of smart functions and innovative features — including Hygiene Filter, which keeps food fresher for longer, and the Slim Door Mounted Ice Maker, incorporating a compact design to further maximize the usable area inside the fridge.
LG’s new side-by-side refrigerator comes with a range of smart and innovative LG technologies with much improved energy efficiency. After introducing its A++ rated side-by-side refrigerator with a dispenser last year, LG has this year added a Home-Bar feature while maintaining the A++ rating for energy consumption.
Underpinning the side-by-side fridge’s exceptional energy efficiency is LG’s Linear Compressor Technology. The compressor controls cooling power and reduces internal friction to greatly reduce power consumption, while also making the fridge quieter and more durable. As a result, not only does the fridge offer an A++ energy-efficiency rating, it also comes with a 10-year warranty on the Linear Compressor motor.2
The new refrigerator also offers enhanced freshness thanks to its Hygiene Filter. As the world’s first air purifying system in a refrigerator, LG’s Hygiene Filter eliminates 99.9 percent of dust, bacteria, and odors through four steps of anti-bacterial care and deodorization. The Hygiene Filter works in conjunction with a fan certified by Intertek, one of Europe’s leading product certification and testing agencies.
By developing the Slim Door Mounted Ice Maker, the first of its kind in the industry, LG has confirmed its position as a leading innovator in the refrigerator market. This ultra-compact device conceals the ice-making system inside the refrigerator’s door, freeing up extra door bins and shelf space to maximize both space and energy efficiency.
An exterior touch LED/LCD display makes messages clear and easy to read, while strips of bright LED lighting inside the refrigerator make it easier to see items stored deep inside.
LG’s new side-by-side refrigerator will be available across Europe, beginning with Germany next month.
1 According to EU Energy Label
2 Offer only applies to linear compressors purchased after October 29, 2009, in Korea, or after December 1, 2009, in other countries (noise levels will not normally be considered a valid reason for exchange or refund).

LG WINS EU’S FIRST A+++ AND A++ ENERGY RANKINGS FOR BOTTOM-FREEZER AND SIDE-BY-SIDE FRIDGE

Linear Compressor Keeps Energy Consumption to a Minimum,
Bumper-Sized Capacity and Well-Designed Inner Space Offer Greater Convenience

Seoul, May 27, 2011 — LG Electronics (LG) is continuing its long-standing commitment to improving energy efficiency with its new 385-liter bottom-freezer and 614-liter side-by-side refrigerator, the first freezer and fridge, respectively, to receive an A+++1 and A++2 energy ranking in the EU. With energy savings made possible by LG’s unique Linear Compressor Technology, the appliances also boast some of the largest inner capacities in the industry.

The Linear Compressor works in conjunction with a smart inner structure and thinner insulation to maximize space in the bottom-freezer and side-by-side fridge — indeed, the bottom-freezer has the largest capacity of any freezer in its class. Providing a larger, more organized space for consumers to store their food, the new refrigerator allows more room for groceries, meaning fewer trips to the supermarket.

“Receiving these energy ratings was a major achievement for us, and a big step forward for the home appliance industry on the whole,” said Young-ha Lee, President and CEO of LG Home Appliance Company. “It demonstrates exactly where we are headed with all our refrigerator models for 2011 — constant improvements in energy consumption, along with smart savings in efficiency, space and accessibility.”

A+++ Large Capacity Bottom-Freezer: Smart Savings, Durability and Design Excellence

Thanks to LG’s unique Linear Compressor, the bottom-freezer keeps the interior temperature steady — leaving food as fresh as it was in the grocery store — while using up to 50 percent less energy than previous A+ rated bottom-freezers. This improved energy efficiency translates into savings of as much as 60 euros a year3 compared with A rated refrigerators, and up to 93kg of annual reductions in CO2 emissions. In addition, by incorporating LG’s latest spiral-fin heat exchanger, the bottom-freezer significantly improves heat exchange and keeps the fridge temperature even and cool in a more efficient manner.

Fewer friction points — one instead of the four in conventional compressors — work to significantly reduce noise levels. This enhances the product’s durability, allowing LG to offer a 10-year warranty on the Linear Compressor motor.4 Additionally, the bottom-freezer’s design was honored with an iF Design Award and a Red Dot Design Award this year.

A++ Side-by-Side Refrigerator: Providing Even Greater Energy Savings

In addition to its Linear Compressor, the new side-by-side refrigerator incorporates a range of smart and innovative LG technologies to improve energy efficiency. In 2010, LG received an A++ rating for its dispenser-equipped side-by-side refrigerator, the first time such an appliance had received this rating in the EU. LG’s new side-by-side refrigerator has this year added a Home-Bar feature on top of the dispenser, while maintaining the A++ rating for energy consumption.

The innovative Slim Door Mounted Ice Maker saves space by providing a compact indoor ice maker. This has allowed for a higher volume of usable inner space without increasing the overall size of the refrigerator or decreasing energy efficiency. LG also offers a 10-year warranty on the Linear Compressor motor.

 # # #
1 LG’s new bottom-freezer refrigerators achieved an A+++ rating according to the EU Energy Label, a first in the EU among refrigerators with a capacity of over 350 liters.
2 LG’s new side-by-side refrigerator achieved an A++ rating according to the EU Energy Label, making it the first side-by-side refrigerator in the EU equipped with both a dispenser and a Home-Bar to receive this rating.
3 Based on average electricity usage in German households
4 Offer only applies to linear compressors purchased after October 29, 2009, in Korea, or after December 1, 2009, in other countries (noise levels will not normally be considered a valid reason for exchange or refund).

Moderated by TIME Magazine senior reporter Bryan Walsh, the interactive session explored different visions of the Green Economy in the developed and developing countries, the role of a Green Economy in eradicating poverty and how to calculate the cost of a transition towards a more sustainable global economic model.
The Champions of the Earth event ran parallel to the 19th session of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development at UN headquarters in New York. The Green Economy –- along with international environmental governance reform –- is one of two central pillars of the UN Sustainable Development Conference (Rio+20), to be held in Brazil next year.
To date, UNEP has recognized 46 individuals and organizations for their leadership, vision, inspiration and action for the environment. The diverse list of previous Champions laureates include former US Vice President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore, Chinese actress and environmental advocate Zhou Xun, the Women’s Environment & Development Organization (WEDO) and Dr. Atiq Rahman, an author and sustainable development expert from Bangladesh.

SEOUL, May 11 — LG Electronics (LG) today announced an agreement with Fox Digital Entertainment and Rovio Mobile to pre-load Angry Birds Rio on LG’s Optimus Series smartphones, an unprecedented commitment to make entertainment content available to LG customers when they purchase a phone. Angry Birds Rio -– an extension of Rovio’s wildly popular original Angry Birds game -– was developed in conjunction with Twentieth Century Fox and features the original Angry Birds characters alongside the animated stars of the studio’s recently-released motion picture, RIO. The film -– from the makers of the hit ICE AGE series -– is in theatres now around the world.
“We’re excited to bring one of the most successful mobile games to our customers,” said Yong-seok Jang, Vice President of Business Strategy at LG Electronics’ Mobile Communications Company. “Angry Birds Rio will help showcase the power, smoothness and speed of LG’s Optimus series of Android smartphones to our customers.”
“We’re thrilled to expose the millions of LG customers across the world to the fun and exciting world of Angry Birds Rio,” said Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio. “With more than 20 million downloads to date, Angry Birds Rio’s launch has been our most successful ever, and by pre-loading the game on high-performance LG Android smartphones worldwide, we look forward to even more success in the future.”
“In partnering with a company with the global presence of LG, we’re once again expanding the reach of the successful Angry Birds Rio game, while also continuing to drive awareness of RIO: THE MOVIE, a film that has already proven to be incredibly popular with audiences worldwide,” said Peter Levinsohn, President of New Media and Digital Distribution for Twentieth Century Fox.
In Angry Birds Rio, the original Angry Birds are kidnapped and taken to the magical city of Rio, where they eventually escape their captors and set out to save their friends, Blu and Jewel – two rare macaws and the stars of the popular Fox motion picture, RIO. Like the incredibly-popular original Angry Birds, Angry Birds Rio will feature hours of gameplay, physics-based demolition challenges and loads of replay value – all with unique twists based on the popular film. The game, which launched with 60 dedicated levels and will add new levels regularly via updates, is currently available for download on smart phones and tablets worldwide.
The first phone to embed Angry Birds RIO will be the Canadian version of LG Optimus 2X, the world’s first dual-core Android smartphone. Thanks to its advanced graphics and high-end features such as the content mirroring through HDMI interface, users can get all the advantages of seamless multitasking between applications, instantaneous touch response along with vivid graphics and a console-like gaming experience.
Angry Birds Rio will be available on LG’s Optimus Series smartphones starting in the second quarter of 2011.
