LG TO UNVEIL ITS LATEST DIGITAL SIGNAGE TECHNOLOGY AT ISE 2011

Largest AV and Systems Show in Europe to Host Integrated Solutions from LG

Amsterdam, Jan. 31, 2011 –- LG Electronics (LG) is to showcase its latest business solutions -– including digital signage, hotel TV solution, and video conference system – at the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2011 show in Amsterdam from February 1 through 3.
LG will be demonstrating all its business solutions through simulations of real-life settings in a “resort” concept of booth with various services on offer. Moving through the booth, a narrative will unfold, leading visitors from a hotel lobby to a guest room, a business conference room, a retail shop, a subway station, a pharmacy, an airport and a theater.
“We’re looking forward to showing how effective our digital signage products and business solutions are when it comes to delivering real, tangible benefits for businesses and their customers,” said Jin-yong Kim, Senior Vice President of LG Commercial Display & Security Division,. “By using these recreations of everyday scenes, our customers will know exactly how these solutions can work for them in their daily lives.”
Entering to Digital Signage Gallery
From the main entrance of LG’s booth through to its Hotel Lobby Zone, visitors can experience a range of LG’s digital displays, which will be a key part of the company’s ISE showcase. Both the information at the reception desk and the art gallery in the Hotel Lobby Zone will be showing on LG’s digital displays.
At the entrance and hotel lobby sections of LG’s booth, two of the company’s cutting-edge touch displays (models M4716T and M4214T) that are highly effective in any interior, will also be on show. With an industry-leading response time of 13.5ms, the M4716T can provide quick, easily controlled information that includes 3D imaging, making it ideal for outlets such as car dealerships.
At the digital art gallery in the hotel lobby, visitors can enjoy media art installations on LG displays such as the 72-inch LED, 65-inch LCD and narrow bezel models. The narrow bezel models boast 700cd brightness and Full-HD picture quality, providing the perfect platform for showing off these works of art.
From Shopping to Transportation
Visitors can also experience various displays at the QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) and Retail Shop Zone in LG’s booth.
LG’s Shine-Out Display, used in the shop window of the Retail Shop Zone, is ideal both  for indoor and outdoor settings. By minimizing reflection from bright lights – such as sunlight – the Shine-Out Display is the perfect signage for shops and malls everywhere. Visitors will also be able to see the unique content management tool for LG’s displays in the Retail Shop Zone. With LG SuperSign, LG’s digital signage solution, sign operators can control and manage a vast amount of information from a single source.
LG EzSign TV, an easy-to-operate signage solution that works without any additional media players, will be on show at the bar in the Hotel Lobby Zone. LG EzSign TV is a cost-effective signage solution that can be run on LG’s Pro:Centric platform-based TV using a simple application. It’s easy to install and operate via a USB playback solution, and offers a free template that customers can use to edit content on their PC for viewing on their TVs.
Additionally, LG’s M3801S stretched monitor, on display at the Transportation Facility Zone, delivers an extremely effective solution for airports, subway stations, bus stop or any other businesses that need wide displays but don’t have much space. The stretched monitors are ideal as platforms for advertising, or for providing passengers with useful information such as timetables.
Perfect Hotel TV and Video Conference Systems in the Hotel Zone
In the booth’s Hotel Room Zone, LG will also be showcasing its advanced, integrated Hotel TV solutions customized to different types of hotel. LG’s Pro:Centric-based Hotel TV Solutions deliver state-of-the-art interactive functions at unbeatable costs.
In addition, LG will be unveiling two types of Video Conference System (VCS) in the Conference Room Zone, where visitors will have the opportunity for hands-on demos. The all-in-one desk type VCS features vivid screens and easy interfaces, while the room-type VCS boasts outstanding connectivity.
LG’s 65-inch LCD IWB and 60-inch PDP IWB, the ideal displays for business presentations and conferences, will also be on display in the conference room.
Experience Super Narrow Bezel in the Theater Zone
LG will unveil the perfect video wall solution, the 47WV30, 47-inch LED super narrow bezel monitor display, in the Theater Zone. With a central focus on delivering benefits to users, the 47WV30 provides industry-leading picture quality. A 6.9mm seam size, the slimmest on any 40- to 49-inch display, means the 47WV30 can connect to other displays for a clearer, more expansive picture. In addition, a special “shine-out film” means the 47WV30 will be able to display crystal clear images outdoors, even in brightness as high as 4,000 lux.

LG ANNOUNCES 2010 FINANCIAL RESULTS

Quarterly Results Reflect Record-High Flat Panel TV Sales,
Consistent Home Appliance Growth

A picture of LG Twin Towers in the daytime
SEOUL, Jan. 26, 2011 — LG Electronics (LG) today announced full year 2010 revenues of KRW 55.8 trillion (USD 48.2 billion) with net profit of KRW 1.3 trillion (USD 1.1 billion). Operating profit for full year 2010 was KRW 176.4 billion (USD 152.5 million).
Unaudited results based on IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) for the three-month period ending December 31, 2010 reflected strong revenues in home entertainment and home appliances, driven by an increase in flat panel TV and handset shipments, which partially offset soft performance for mobile phones during the quarter.
LG posted consolidated fourth-quarter 2010 revenues of KRW 14.7 trillion (USD 13.0 billion) a 9.4 percent increase from the third quarter of 2010. LG recorded a KRW 256.4 billion (USD 226.3 million) net loss in the fourth quarter of 2010. Overall operating profit fell but losses at the company’s mobile division also declined and a reduction in inventory resulted in improved cash flow.
LG Home Entertainment Company sales increased 15.8 percent in KRW quarter-overquarter with record-high quarterly flat panel TV sales due to strong seasonality and product leadership in developed markets. The company shipped 8.7 million flat panel TVs, reflecting a 33.0 percent increase from the same period the previous year. However, due to ASP decline as a result of intensified competition in the TV industry, earnings declined compared to the third quarter and posted an operating loss in this quarter. Annual sales reached KRW 22.1 trillion (USD 19.1 billion), jumping 12.5 percent from the previous year despite economic stagnation in developed markets.
LG Mobile Communications Company revenues increased 10.9 percent quarter-overquarter due to strong sales of smartphones such as Optimus One. A total of 30.6 million handsets were shipped in the quarter, reflecting an 8.0 percent increase over the previous quarter. In 2011, the company will focus on profitability by launching more premium smartphones and differentiated tablet PC products while regaining its cost competitiveness in feature phones
LG Home Appliance Company showed consistent strong performance with 13.7 percent growth year-over-year on sales of KRW 2.8 trillion (USD 2.5 billion) and an operating profit of KRW 78.0 billion (USD 68.8 million). Sales increased in the overseas markets due to strong holiday season sales in the North American market and continuous growth in the emerging markets. Total sales for the full year rose 11.9 percent over 2009 to KRW 10.7 trillion (USD 9.2 billion), generating solid operating margin. The company expects to maintain its market leadership in refrigerators and washing machines while expanding its linear compressor and water treatment businesses.
LG Air Conditioning Company sales increased 50.5 percent year-over-year to KRW 0.9 trillion (USD 0.8 billion) with significant growth in Middle East, Africa, Central and South America and stronger overseas commercial AC sales. Full year sales reached KRW 4.8 trillion (USD 4.2 billion), 12.2 percent higher than a year earlier. In 2010, the company will continue to place considerable resources toward its nascent solar cell and LED lighting businesses while strengthening its competitiveness for strategic air conditioning products.
LG Business Solutions Company sales increased 1.9 percent quarter-over-quarter to KRW 1.2 trillion (USD 1.1 billion) despite a decline in market demand and a lower average selling price (ASP). Annual sales posted KRW 4.8 trillion (USD 4.2 billion), rising 4.3 percent from the previous year.
2011 1Q Business Direction and Prospects
With strong leadership under the new senior management, the company will focus on strategic investment in product development and quality assurance for the long term. To prepare for future growth, the company will continue to invest in high potential businesses such as solar energy, commercial air conditioning and water treatment.
2010 4Q Exchange Rates Explained
Amounts in Korean Won (KRW) are translated into US Dollars (USD) at the average rate of the three month period in each corresponding quarter: KRW 1,133 per USD (2010 4Q) and KRW 1,169 per USD (2009 4Q). Average rate of the twelve-month period in 2010 was KRW 1,157 per USD and KRW 1,278 per USD in 2009. LG expects the exchange rate in 2011 to be KRW 1,100 per USD.

Lee said that LG will continue to build on its leading position in built-in appliances in the United States and in European countries, targeting annual sales of KRW 1 trillion by 2015.

From a regional perspective, LG will further strengthen its premium image in advanced regions such as in the U.S. and European countries by working closely with clients and partner companies to deliver accurate sales forecasts and streamline supply logistics. For emerging markets including Brazil and Africa, LG plans to build market share by tailoring products to meet local consumer needs.

At this CES 2011, LG introduced its complete range of smart solutions based on its groundbreaking new THINQ™ technology. Comprised of five key features -– Smart Grid, Smart Diagnosis™, Smart Access, Smart Adapt and Food Management -– LG THINQ Technology offers a complete smart solution that lets consumers manage their homes in a more centralized and convenient way. LG ELECTRONICS’ FLAGSHIP INFINIA PZ950 3D HDTV HEADLINES EXPANDED 2011 PLASMA LINE

New Plasma Displays Combine Top-of-the-Line Features,
Amazing Picture Quality and Stylish Design

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 –- LG Electronics announced its expanded family of plasma HDTVs for 2011 today at the International Consumer Electronics Show (Booth #8205), a stunning lineup of seven new plasma series headlined by the Full HD 1080p INFINIA PZ950.

A front view of LG plasma 3D HDTV INFINIA model PZ950

The INFINIA PZ950 –- with its added online content options through LG SmartTV with Magic Motion Remote for easy navigation, THX Certified 3D display* and picture-enhancing technologies– represents the pinnacle among the more than a dozen new 2011 plasma models from LG Electronics.

“LG is dedicated to re-inventing the boundaries of Plasma HDTVs, and the 2011 line represents another step forward in the industry,” said Jay Vandenbree, senior vice president, LG Electronics USA. “Including features that provide additional content, like LG SmartTV and 3D capability, add to the great picture quality and stylish designs that consumers have come to expect from an LG plasma HDTV.”

Connect, Surf, Enjoy
Two of LG’s new plasma lines, PZ950 and PZ750 series (each available in both 50- and 60-inch class sizes*), come with the new LG SmartTV function. Building on the online content platform the company first introduced in 2008, LG SmartTV provides consumers access to virtually limitless content, thousands of movies, customizable apps, videos and Web browsing, all through an organized, simple-to-use interface*. Making navigation easier is LG’s “magic motion” remote control.  This gesture-based remote provides a simple and intuitive way to control the TV as well as LG SmartTV apps. In addition, a free app for iPhone and Android-based smart phones will provide an additional way to control the set, including a full QWERTY keyboard.

The PZ550 series (available in 50- and 60-inch class sizes*) includes online media options from content partners including Netflix, CinemaNow, VUDU, Picasa and many more with LG NetCast 1.0. Providing easy options for connecting to the Internet, in addition to the wired Ethernet jack, all internet-capable sets can integrate into a wireless home network by using a USB wireless broadband adaptor (Included with PZ950, sold separately for other models).

All LG’s internet-capable plasmas have incorporated the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) technology. DLNA allows consumers to access content stored on other DLNA-certified devices within the home, such as computers, making content options almost limitless.

Eye-Popping Picture, Eye-Catching Design
Four of LG’s new plasma series (PZ950, PZ750, PZ550 and PW350 series) incorporate 3D capability, working with the use of active shutter glasses and an RF emitter built into the television. They also incorporate 2D to 3D conversion, which is user-adjustable so consumers can watch almost anything with a 3D effect. The PZ950 and PZ750 have achieved THX 2D and 3D Display Certification – the industry standard for having the correct gamma, luminance, and color temperature. To earn THX 3D display certification, these models passed more than 400 laboratory tests evaluating left and right eye images for color accuracy, cross-talk, viewing angles and video processing performance. In addition to THX 3D Display Certification, this series had to pass THX certification for their superior picture quality in 2D, which must be achieved before passing THX 3D Display Certification. THX Certification ensures that consumers bring home an uncompromised HD experience with picture quality the way the director intended.

All of the new plasma series include LG’s 600Hz Sub-field Driving to ensure that all the action is delivered smoothly with virtually no motion blur. The flagship PZ950 also includes the TruBlack filter for enhanced black levels even in brightly lit conditions. Further, it features LG’s striking INFINIA Design, with a depth of less than 2 inches and a bezel measuring just 1.18 inches wide. Real glass is paired with a hair-line aluminum highlight to create a luxurious, virtually borderless appearance, while a transparent lower panel completes the slim even-bezel look. The overall effect is to draw greater attention to the screen, making for a truly immersive viewing experience in both 2D and 3D. Other 2011 models (PZ550, PW350, PV450, and PT350) include LG’s TruSlim Frame, which cut the bezel to less than 1-inch thin.

Energy Savings
Understanding consumers’ desire for products that reduce their household energy costs, most of LG’s plasma HDTVs have a variety of energy-saving features, such as Intelligent Sensor, to automatically calibrate and optimize brightness, contrast, white balance and color, based on the ambient light in the room, saving on energy output under most circumstances. Additionally, ISFccc calibration options allow consumers to work with a professional to set “day” and “night” levels for optimal viewing and brightness levels. All of LG’s 2011 plasma series also qualify for ENERGY STAR® certification.

In total, LG unveiled 12 new plasma HDTV models for consumers, featuring advanced content options, excellent picture quality, wireless technology and diverse screen sizes. Full details on the series are below:

LG ELECTRONICS SETS NEW STANDARD IN HDTV DESIGN WITH ‘NANO FULL LED’ HDTV SERIES

Expanded Product Line Marries Ultra-Slim Design with
3D Technology to Deliver Ultimate Theater Experience

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 –- LG Electronics today unveiled the next generation of flat-panel televisions featuring NANO Lighting Technology developed to redefine “clarity” in FULL LED TVs at the International Consumer Electronics Show (Booth #8205).

A right-side view of the LG NANO FULL LED HDTV model LW9500.

A left-side view of the LG NANO FULL LED HDTV model LW9500

Two new NANO FULL LED series (LW9500 and LW7700) push the boundaries of viewing pleasure with their NANO Lighting Technology, producing a clear, bright and smooth picture. Extremely thin film printed with a proprietary light dispersion pattern and  combined with a full array of LEDs disperses light more evenly across the screen, creating pictures that are brighter and more uniform than conventional edge-lit LED sets. What’s more, an Anti-Reflection Panel on the screen minimizes reflection from external light sources, including sunlight, to provide a crystal clear picture.

The LW9500 and LW7700 boast improved localized dimming in both 2D and 3D with their Micro Pixel Control. By manipulating individual LED blocks, Micro Pixel Control adds even greater range and life to colors, from the deepest, darkest blacks to the most natural colors. The LW9500 is further enhanced by LG’s TruMotion 480Hz, while the LW7700 features LG’s TruMotion 240Hz, both of which deliver super-fast processing rates for moving images making them virtually blur-free. The overall effect is a picture so smooth, sharp and realistic it’s as if the action is playing out right in viewers’ living rooms.

As LG’s picture technology continues to evolve, so does its innovative INFINIA Design. With its incredibly narrow bezel, the NANO series can complement any interior. Combining superior picture quality with an alluring design, these models deliver perfect visual harmony.

Both the LW9500 and LW7700 deliver LG’s best 3D images yet. By ensuring a more uniform distribution of light from the LED backlight panels, the NANO series illuminates the screen more effectively, for 3D pictures of superior clarity and brightness. The 55- and 60-inch class models pack in 288 local dimming blocks, while the 47-inch class model has 240 local dimming blocks.

LG’s NANO FULL LED series is expected to join an elite group of LED LCD HDTVs that have achieved THX 2D and 3D Display Certification – the industry standard for having the correct gamma, luminance, and color temperature. NANO FULL LED and FULL LED Slim 3D works with the use of active shutter glasses and an emitter built directly into the television.

The INFINIA NANO FULL LED series boasts a connectivity package with a variety of entertainment options, including the brand new LG SmartTV. LG SmartTV is a revolutionary and easy way to access limitless content, thousands of movies, customizable apps, videos and the best of the Web all organized in a simple to use interface. And when consumers can just point and choose selections with LG’s unique motion-controlled Magic Motion Remote control, it’s even simpler.

LG has also incorporated the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) technology across all of its SmartTV-enabled HDTVs. DLNA allows consumers to access content stored on other DLNA-certified devices within the home, such as computers, making content options almost limitless.

Using NANO Lighting Technology, LG has taken its FULL LED picture and made it even more exhilarating. Whether in 2D or 3D, NANO FULL LED TV raises the bar for television viewing with pictures that are as engrossing as they are strikingly realistic. With the exceptional picture of LG’s LW9500 and LW7700, viewers can now see FULL LED in a whole new light.

The LW9500 is available is 60- and 55-inch class sizes and the LW7700 is available in 55- and 47-inch class sizes*.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 -– Continuing its leadership in digital media with vast online content options, LG Electronics today introduced its 2011 lineup of Network Blu-ray Disc Players and Home Theater Systems at the International Consumer Electronics Show (Booth #8205).

Leading the lineup being unveiled this week is LG’s BD690 3D-capable Network Blu-ray Disc player with LG SmartTV and an integrated 250-gigabyte (GB) hard drive, allowing for easy storage and instant playback of music, photos, personal videos and online movies from VUDU™*.

Demonstrating its focus on providing consumers with convenient access to nearly endless content options, six of LG’s 2011 Network Blu-ray Players and home theater systems are 3D capable and incorporate LG SmartTV.  LG SmartTV provides consumers with a simple-to-use interface that allows access to thousands of movies, customizable apps and videos.  For convenient navigation consumers can download a free app for iPhone and Android-based smart phones to control the unit, including a full QWERTY keyboard.

“LG is committed to offering consumers easier access to more content-on-demand, which is reflected in our 2011 line of Blu-ray products with new content partners, advanced technology and unique design,” said Jay Vandenbree, senior vice president, LG Electronics USA. “As the pioneer in providing content-on-demand options for consumers, LG builds on this reputation by offering full product lines designed to help consumers transform their home entertainment experience into something better.”

Consumers also will enjoy that most 2011 Network Blu-ray Players and home theater systems have available Wi-Fi connectivity (built-in or available with purchase of Wi-Fi adapter) that allows consumers flexibility when installing a home entertainment system by connecting directly to any existing 802.11n wireless home network. They also include Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) functionality, which expands entertainment options by enabling easier access to family videos and pictures stored on other DLNA-enabled systems, such as computers, making content options almost limitless.

Also included on many products in the lineup is the MusicID® feature powered by Gracenote®, which allows consumers to play a song from a movie or TV show by simply pressing a button on their remote control.  Gracenote then returns rich information on the song, such as artist and genre, along with album cover art.

Designed to complement the look of today’s HDTVs, LG’s Network Blu-ray Players and home theater systems feature slim, compact designs that allow consumers to easily blend their entire entertainment system into any existing room environment.

Network Blu-ray Disc Players
Leading LG’s 2011 portfolio of Network Blu-ray Disc Players is model BD690 – one of the only 3D-capable Blu-ray Disc player to feature an integrated hard drive, so consumers can consolidate their digital media files in a single device for exceptional high-resolution enjoyment.  Its built-in 250GB hard drive allows consumers to create a Media Library that delivers easy storage and instant playback of music, photos, personal videos and movies purchased from the VUDU service.  Also, digital media that may have been scattered throughout the home on PCs or digital cameras can now be simply imported via the USB or Ethernet port to create a single organized library of personal memories.

To take full advantage of the Blu-ray format, LG’s Network Blu-ray Players also provide convenient access to BD Live, which offers a wide variety of content, such as movie scene extras, new previews and the ability to read synopses and rate movies. Also included are Bonus View features that provide picture-in-picture access to Blu-ray Disc special features, allowing consumers to toggle between their favorite movie scenes and bonus features on the disc. For those with a library full of both standard and Blu-ray titles, LG’s players utilize 1080p up scaling of standard DVDs for a near high definition viewing experience – no matter what format is being played.

VERIZON WIRELESS AND LG MOBILE PHONES COME TOGETHER TO ANNOUNCE 4G LTE BUSINESS SOLUTIONS

New LG 4G LTE Module on Display at 2011 CES

LAS VEGAS, BASKING RIDGE, N.J., and SAN DIEGO -– Verizon Wireless and LG Mobile Phones announced today the LG WM300 LTE module and LG L2000 modem chip will be available on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network.  Providing high-speed, wireless connectivity, LG WM300 and LG L2000 deliver revolutionary LTE technology to consumers looking to stay connected while on the go.

The LG module and chipset are compatible with Verizon’s 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network, and are applicable to machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions, such as fixed wireless applications including gateway devices and telematics.  The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network, launched in December 2010, is the fastest, most advanced 4G network in the United States, providing speeds up to 10 times faster than Verizon Wireless’ 3G networks.  Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network currently reaches one-third of all Americans, with plans to expand the network to the company’s entire 3G coverage area over the next three years.

The LG WM300 LTE module is the result of a three-year collaboration between LG Mobile Phones and Verizon Wireless’ LTE Innovation Center.  Established in 2008, the LTE Innovation Center provides an environment for diverse companies to work together to develop innovative products that leverage 4G LTE technology.

LG’s WM300 LTE module will be highlighted from Jan. 6-9 in Verizon Wireless’ booth (#35216 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center) and LG Electronics’ booth (#8205 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center).  For more information about the LTE Innovation Center and Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network, visit www.verizonwireless.com/lte.
