LG ELECTRONICS DEMONSTRATES FIRST ‘GLASSES-FREE’ 3D ATSC MOBILE DTV

Company Also Shows Prototype Mobile DTV Smartphone
That Eliminates Coupon Clipping

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 -– The first mobile digital TV that displays three-dimensional (3D) images broadcast via the ATSC Mobile Digital Television Standard is being demonstrated by LG Electronics at the 2010 International CES® here this week. The prototype 7-inch receiver is designed with auto-stereoscopic capability that eliminates the need for special viewing glasses to see stunning 3D TV images.

In addition, to show how local TV broadcasters can now offer more than just linear TV channels, LG Electronics is showing its first Android-enabled smartphone prototype equipped with Mobile Digital TV (MDTV) reception, which offers conditional access functionality for future subscription broadcasts and the capability of receiving “non-real time” data such as electronic coupons.

The demonstrations are made possible through a cooperative effort with Harris Corporation, which has developed the necessary MDTV transmission equipment, and local DTV broadcasters KLAS-TV, 8 News NOW in Las Vegas, and Vegas PBS Channel 10.  Roundbox, a leading mobile software provider, is providing non-real time data services that power the Smartphone coupon application, as well as the Electronic Services Guide (ESG) for both innovative applications for ATSC MDTV.

“The ATSC Mobile DTV standard offers broadcasters remarkable flexibility to address the changing demands of consumers and advertisers,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, president and chief technology officer, LG Electronics, Inc. “As broadcasters continue their national rollout of Mobile DTV, LG is proud to lead the transition with the latest innovations in mobile DTV services like 3D and non-real-time applications.”

Glasses-Free 3D Mobile DTV
In the Las Vegas demonstration, PBS Channel 10 (RF channel 11) is the first U.S. broadcast station to transmit 3D images via the ATSC Mobile DTV Standard. Receiving the signal is LG’s prototype receiver built around the LG2161 demodulator chip and LG-exclusive 3D formatting circuitry that combines the side-by-side left and right images for seamless viewing without the need for 3D eyewear commonly used for 3D TVs.

The seven-inch barrier-type LCD display shows lifelike 3D images that appear to jump right off the screen.  With its built-in antenna, the device also receives conventional 2D 416×240 resolution MDTV broadcasts and scales images up to 800×480 resolution. It also functions as an attractive digital photo frame when not being used as a Mobile DTV receiver.

“Broadcasting 3D mobile DTV shows television stations how flexible the ATSC Mobile DTV standard is and, perhaps more importantly, shows retailers and consumers a cool new application for mobile DTV,” said Jay Adrick, vice president of broadcast technology, Harris Corporation, which co-developed the ATSC MDTV standard with LG Electronics and Zenith.

Electronic Coupons from your Smartphone
Non-real time services such as electronic couponing and video-on-demand are made possible by the versatile ATSC Mobile Digital TV standard now being deployed by broadcasters throughout the U.S.  KLAS-TV 8 (RF channel 7) is transmitting digital coupons for electronics stores and restaurants during CES.

“Software advances are helping to drive exciting new applications like non-real-time mobile DTV broadcasts,” said Peter Mataga, chief technology officer at Roundbox. “LG’s latest smartphone mobile DTV prototype is the first to show how electronic coupons can be delivered by local broadcasters. It’s especially significant that Roundbox and LG have achieved interoperability in a way that conforms to the new ATSC Non-Real-Time Content Delivery Candidate Standard.”

The smartphone prototype is LG’s first full-touch CDMA device with built-in Mobile DTV circuitry.  Running the Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system and LG’s second-generation MDTV chip, the fully-featured Smartphone includes a 3.2” HVGA screen, 3 megapixel camera, GPS and Wi-Fi capability, and other features such as an accelerometer, digital compass, and ability to play back a variety of audio and video codecs.

Chips Available for Portable Device Manufacturers
Co-developer of the technology at the heart of the ATSC Mobile DTV Standard, LG Electronics is producing the critical component for Mobile DTV reception –- the LG2161R single chip design that includes both the tuner and demodulator in a tiny seven-by-seven millimeter square package.  This key component of mobile DTV receivers already can be found in a variety of new products being introduced by various manufacturers this year for mobile DTV, from laptop USB accessory receivers to prototype netbooks with integrated mobile DTV tuners.

Standardized by the Advanced Television Systems Committee and formally adopted as the ATSC Mobile DTV Standard, the new technology allows broadcasters to use a portion of the existing 19.4 Megabit-per-second DTV channel capacity to transmit data with extremely robust characteristics suitable for mobile, pedestrian and handheld applications.  The mobile DTV signal is also compatible with 8-VSB DTV, which was also developed by Zenith, LG’s U.S. research and development lab.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 –– From Smart TVs to Smart Appliances to Smart Phones, LG Electronics today unveiled its smart technologies and devices, innovations designed to en-hance consumers’ lives, at its global press conference at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show.

“For LG, 2011 is going to be all about smart products, including smart TVs, smart phones, and smart appliances,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and Chief Technology Officer of LG Electronics, during his keynote speech. “It’s no longer enough just to offer static services – consumers today want to connect and enjoy a constantly updated range of content and applications. We understand this, and that’s why 2011’s going to be a big year for LG.”

One of LG’s biggest smart product introductions at this year’s CES is LG Smart TV, which offers premium TV technology and Internet connectivity while being extremely easy to use*. Demonstrating the “Point, Click, Control, Simply Smarter” capabilities of LG’s Smart TVs, LG’s Home Dashboard and Magic Motion Remote Control make using the Smart TV and accessing its wealth of content intuitive and simple.

With the addition of Media Link to LG’s existing USB and DLNA functions, Smart Share gives LG Smart TV users the freedom to access content from their PC by transferring it di-rectly onto their TV. In addition to enabling viewers to easily watch all their stored content on the big screen, Media Link also provides simultaneous information on what they are watching, including synopses, actor profiles and viewer ratings.

Also unveiled at the press conference was LG’s Smart TV Upgrader (ST600) which offers consumers a full range of Smart TV functions on regular TVs via an HDMI link*.

LG also introduced the LW6500, a new LG CINEMA 3D™ TV that takes 3D images to new heights of brightness and clarity by using 3D technology similar to movie theaters**. With LG’s proprietary Film-type Patterned Retarder (FPR) panel, the TV delivers a first class, virtually blur-free and flicker-free 3D picture and a wide viewing angle. The LW6500 also comes with more comfortable and affordable 3D glasses which have no electrical parts, meaning they never need to be recharged.

Beyond TVs, LG is also highlighting 3D Blu-ray home theater systems, 3D Blu-ray Disc™ players, 3D monitors, 3D laptops, and 3D projectors that provide a superior 3D entertain-ment experience for virtually every occasion and every setting.

On the mobile front, Dr. Ahn introduced LG’s latest smartphones including LG Optimus 2X, a smartphone with a dual core processor and full HD screen and LG Optimus Black. Featuring an amazingly bright 700nit  the Optimus Black weighs just 109g, and is only 9.2mm-thick.

LG also showcased its Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology, a glasses-free 3D display for mobiles devices, and a smartphone that supports the United States’ version of mobile DTV (LG MS960).

Continuing with the smart theme, Dr. Ahn introduced LG’s complete range of smart appli-ances using its groundbreaking new THINQ™ technology. LG’s THINQ™ allows users to adapt their home appliances to their personal preference and control and monitor them via their smartphones or tablet PCs. LG’s washing machine can automatically select the most cost-effective time to do the laundry and can also send detailed diagnoses of technical prob-lems direct to a service center*, doing away with the need for service calls or in-home visits.

THINQ™ enables LG’s smart ovens to download a wide range of up-to-date recipes while the smart refrigerator makes it easy to keep track of what’s in the fridge, where it is and when it expires. What’s more, LG’s HOM-BOT robotic vacuum cleaner can not only tidy up the house, it can even keep watch over it while the owners are away.

Already heavily involved in major smart grid projects around the world, LG is making this demand-response technology a major focus of its energy solutions strategy for 2011 and be-yond. Some of LG’s smart grid initiatives include the Southern California Edison (SCE) Pi-lot Project, the first residential energy storage system verification project in the United States; the Smart Watts Pilot Project in Germany, the first real-time energy pricing project in the EU; and the Jeju Pilot Project in Korea.

LG’S INVERTER DIRECT DRIVE™ TECHNOLOGY RAISES BAR FOR WASHING MACHINES

6Motion™ Technology and ColdWash™ Underpinned by
Innovative Inverter Direct Drive™ Technology

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 –- LG Electronics (LG) will today unveil its new, top-of-the-line washing machines at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES®). The latest models are equipped with LG’s innovative Inverter Direct Drive™ motor, which delivers cleaner washing, and makes the washing machines more energy-efficient, durable, and quieter with less vibration.

Whereas most front-load washers only have one motion -– tumbling – LG’s innovative 6Motion™ Technology allows the drum to tailor each load from a combination of six unique motions: rolling, stepping, swinging, scrubbing, filtration and tumbling.

Depending on the cycle the consumer chooses, these motions range from gentle, for delicates, to a more powerful cleaning for soiled items, making it simple to take better care of clothing. This breakthrough technology is made possible by the precision mechanics created by LG’s Inverter Direct Drive™ motor, which operates without belts or pulleys, delivering power directly from the motor to the drum. LG TrueSteam™ Technology also deeply penetrates fabrics to remove dirt and reduce wrinkles.

In addition, 6Motion™ Technology works in conjunction with ColdWash™, which penetrates deep into fabrics using only cold water, to provide consumers with the same washing performance as washing in warm water while providing substantial energy savings.

Like all LG laundry systems, the new models are Energy-Star rated and use considerably less water than conventional top-load machines.

By eliminating belts and pulleys, LG’s Direct Drive motor cuts back on moving parts to make its washing machines durable and quieter with lower vibration, an effect further aided by the machines’ TrueBalance™ anti-vibration system. As a measure of confidence in their reliability, LG offers a 10-year warranty for its direct drive motors.

In addition, LG top-load washing machines provide WaveForce™ Technology, which offers a powerful yet gentle wash to make laundry exceptionally clean. And LG’s SmartRinse™ Jet Spray System saves water without compromising rinsing performance, while its SlamProof™ Lid offers convenience and lower noise levels.

LG’S KOMPRESSOR VACUUM CLEANER PROVIDES OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE WITH LESS HASSLE

LG’s Upright Vacuum Cleaner Offers Thorough Cleaning with Impeccable Results

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 -– LG Electronics (LG) will today demonstrate its upright vacuum cleaner -– which delivers an easier and smarter cleaning experience -– at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES®).

This high-performance vacuum cleaner is underpinned by LG’s proprietary KOMPRESSOR® technology, the world’s first motorized dust-compression system. The KOMPRESSOR® packs dust into wedges, and together with the larger bin size enables the vacuum to hold up to three times more dust than non-compressor models, meaning users will be able to empty the dust bin far less frequently. As a result, the upright vacuum cleaner helps reduce overall dust levels and makes it far easier to empty the dust bin.

Additionally, the vacuum cleaner’s DualForce+™ suction captures more dirt across a wider area, while the Click ‘N Go Wand™ enables easy and quick access for those hard-to-reach areas. A 40-foot cord means less plugging and unplugging, so users can get the job done more quickly, and multipurpose tools deliver the means to provide all-round, deep cleaning.

In addition to its upright vacuum cleaner, LG is showcasing its HOM-BOT robotic vacuum cleaner. LG’s new HOM-BOT vacuum offers a unique combination of dual camera (upper and lower), ultrasonic and infrared sensors, making cleaning an effortless job, while also reducing collisions. It boasts a slim height of just over 3.5 inches. With noise levels of 60 decibels (IEC), users will be able to hear the TV clearly or read books while they clean. Auto docking and recharging functions add to the overall convenience.

LG ELECTRONICS DEBUTS NEW FOUR-DOOR FRENCH-DOOR REFRIGERATOR WITH UNPARALLELED ORGANIZATION AND MOST REFRIGERATOR SPACE AVAILABLE

Four-Door Enhancements Offer Ultimate in Convenience,
Efficiency and Usable Shelf Space

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 –– Global appliance innovator LG Electronics (LG) today announced the availability of its newest four-door French-door refrigerator, large capacity model featuring groundbreaking interior features that offer a new level of organization and convenience for consumers, including the most refrigerator shelf space available.

A long-time leader in French-door refrigeration, LG continues to innovate and provide added convenience for consumers. LG’s Slim SpacePlus™ Ice System makes way for additional door bin space – allowing for the most usable shelf space available in the industry, while the new “Converta™ Drawer” offers the unique ability to convert the top freezer drawer into a refrigerator drawer when extra refrigerator space is needed. Together with energy-saving innovations like linear compressor technology, LG is delivering “Something Better” to the most important kitchen appliance.

“When you consider that a refrigerator is the kitchen appliance consumers will use more than any other, LG wanted to make sure this new model performs as great as it looks,” said Peter Reiner, senior vice president, marketing, LG Electronics USA. “Our new four-door refrigerator more than delivers on both, offering new levels of innovation and convenience that help enhance consumers’ every day lives.”

There’s Room For That…Most Refrigerator Shelf Space Available
LG’s new four-door refrigerator offers exceptional organization in both the freezer and the refrigerator. With a large capacity of nearly 28 cubic feet -– among the largest in the industry, this LG model offers the most refrigerator shelf space available, even more than refrigerators with a larger claimed capacity. The refrigerator compartment can accommodate up to 47 gallons of milk and provides ample space for the entire family’s favorite foods, as well as keeps them conveniently organized and within reach.

Innovations such as the Slim SpacePlus Ice System allow for more shelf space providing greater organization and access for consumers. This innovation moves the icemaker from the top shelf of the refrigerator to the door, which is compact enough to also include door bin shelves, allowing for maximum refrigerator shelf space.

Additional convenience features of this four-door model include two bottom-freezer drawers. With these two separate freezer drawers, consumers have easy, organized access to the things they need often—and an ample lower compartment for larger items or longer-term storage.

The refrigerator’s upgraded Four Compartment Crisper System is designed to help keep fresh foods organized and ensure every fruit, vegetable and soda has its place.  With three top drawers -– two of which are humidity-controlled -– and a fourth Glide N’ Serve drawer below, there is greater organization and easier access for the whole family. Consumers will enjoy the extra tall ice and water dispensing center, with the water dispenser measuring 12.6 inches. A slide-out pitcher rest makes filling uniquely shaped and assorted sized pitchers and glasses easy, including coffee pots and sports bottles.

LG’s Four-Door French-Door Refrigerator Evolution…Converta Drawer
With this latest model, LG has transformed the concept of the four-door refrigerator with a unique Converta Freezer Drawer, which allows the top freezer drawer to be used as extra refrigerator space if needed.  This delivers new flexibility options previously unavailable to consumers, and is especially helpful for entertaining at home when extra space is often desired.  Additionally, this drawer can operate at numerous temperatures, including at a “soft freeze” setting to safely thaw meat and poultry.  With the Converta drawer set to refrigerator mode, this model can accommodate up to 53 gallons of milk, nearly 13 percent more than the already-spacious refrigerator section alone.  This is a fresh-food storage space freestanding French-door refrigerator on the market.

Close-up view of the new LG Four-Door French-Door refrigerator’s Converta™ Drawer

In addition to the enhanced convenience of Converta Drawer, this refrigerator includes an auto open/close freezer drawer option. This innovation enables users to automatically open and close the bottom-freezer drawers with the touch of a button, making it easier to access food items or unload groceries. The drawers also have an assisted open/close function; a slight push or pull on the drawer will prompt it to open/close by itself. A Safety Interruption feature stops automatic closing if a child’s hand or any obstacles are in the way.

Stainless Steel Never Looked So Green…Linear Compressor Technology
To achieve maximum efficiency, LG redesigned the refrigerator’s compressor, the element that uses the most energy. Typically, the refrigerator’s compressor is either running at full capacity or off completely; however, LG’s Linear Compressor can vary output depending on need, saving eight to 17 percent in energy usage compared to previous models with conventional compressors.  This technology leads to fewer temperature swings, which means consumers use less energy and spend less money.  LG’s Energy Star rated refrigerator is 20 percent more efficient than the minimum federal standard.  The compressor is backed with a 10-year warranty, so consumers can be confident their home.

LG’s new French-door refrigerator (Model: LMX28994) is available at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $3,299.

LG UNVEILS TOTAL HOME APPLIANCE SOLUTION EMPOWERING CONSUMERS TO SMARTLY MANAGE THEIR HOMES

Offering Easy-to-Use Centralized Management with Smartphones and Tablets

SEOUL, Jan. 3, 2011 –– For the first time anywhere, LG Electronics (LG) will today unveil its full range of smart appliances, enabled by LG THINQ™ Technology, at the 2011 Inter-national CES®. Comprising five key features – Smart Grid, Smart Diagnosis™, Smart Ac-cess, Smart Adapt and Food Management -– LG THINQ™ Technology offers a complete smart solution that lets consumers manage their homes in a more centralized and convenient way.

“For LG, ‘smart’ means offering the ultimate benefits of empowerment and convenience to our consumers. With our innovative THINQ™ Technology, consumers will be more empowered when doing household tasks thanks to more efficient and controllable appliance options,” said Young-ha Lee, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “This isn’t a gradual evolution – LG THINQ™ Technology essentially transforms how consumers take care of their home, and makes it easier and smarter.”

An infographic explaining LG smart appliances, including the company’s washing machine & dryer, HOM-BOT, refrigerator and oven with ThinQ™ technology

Less Energy, Lower Electricity Bills, Eco-Friendlier Life
A centerpiece of LG THINQ™ Technology, the Smart Grid, deploys a smart meter to en-sure that appliances use the minimum amount of energy at the least expensive rates as possible. When switched on, the Smart Grid gives consumers the choice of using “Recommend Time,” which does the washing at the nearest, most cost-effective time or immediately if there are no off-peak electricity options available anytime soon. Alternatively, users can opt for “Lowest Rate,” which finds the time when electricity rates are at their lowest. Consumers can also select the washing time themselves, and if they have to do the washing at a peak time, the washing machine will recommend the most energy-efficient cycle.

Using the Smart Grid, LG’s ovens offer three cost options – low, middle and high -– that take into account both the duration of the cooking cycle and varying costs of electricity. Similarly, LG’s refrigerators can use a unique algorithm to adjust various functions, such as defrost time control -– to offer further savings on energy bills at peak times. What’s more, LG refrigerators even count and display the frequency at which homeowners open the refrigerator door, giving them the information they need to save even more energy.

The LCD display on LG’s smart appliances shows daily, weekly or monthly reports detailing the appliance’s overall levels of energy consumption and associated costs. Daily totals for electricity usage and subsequent charges will be accessible on smartphones and tablet PCs. With these new functions, consumers can save on time and energy bills while also opting for a lifestyle.

LG Smart Diagnosis™ Makes Things Simple and Provides Optimum Performance
LG’s high-tech appliances are highly reliable, yet service issues arise from time to time. Previously, the only course of action was to contact customer service and await the arrival of a service technician to access and repair the unit. Now, LG’s Smart Diagnosis™ feature helps customer service representatives quickly and efficiently troubleshoot mechanical issues over the phone, limiting costly, inconvenient service calls and in-home visits.

For minor problems –- refrigerator door left open, ice-maker switched off, washing machine off-balance – the appliance alerts the owner either on its display panel or for future models, via a Wi-Fi connection, on the consumer’s smartphone or tablet PC.

When consumers call the LG customer service center, a technician will instruct them to press a sequence of buttons on the laundry unit. This triggers a series of tones that let the technician identify the issue and how to correct the problem. Consumers can also diagnose their washing machines at home via a downloadable mobile application on their smartphone.

LG Smart Diagnosis™ eliminates a step in the troubleshooting process, because issues can at times be identified without the need for a service technician to visit the home for diagnosis, saving time and money. In those instances where a service visit is required, the field technician can come prepared with the correct parts, enabling the repair to be resolved in one visit. The combination of this new feature and LG’s product warranties – including the unprecedented 10-year warranty on the Direct Drive motor -– illustrates that the company’s customer service is as reliable as it home appliances.

LG Smart Access Monitors, Controls and Secures Your Home Appliances
LG Smart Access makes it possible for homeowners to monitor and control home appliances remotely from outside of the home. Using a smartphone or tablet PC, users can manage their washing cycle from the office, or set their refrigerator temperature while they’re at the gym. Alert messages will be sent to the user’s smartphone or tablet PC for items such as the end of a washing cycle or a potential product issue.

More impressively, consumers will soon be able to order their HOM-BOT robotic vacuum cleaner to tidy up their home while they’re out, or use the vacuum’s viewing function to keep watch when they are away from home. Via a smartphone or tablet PC, consumers even have the option to have HOM-BOT feed their pet while they’re away. LG plans to offer even more convenient options through Smart Access in the near future.

Smart Adapt for Upgrading and Adapting to Personal Preference

LG DEBUTS NEW HOME APPLIANCES WITH LATEST SMART FEATURES, CORE TECHNOLOGIES AT CES 2011

New Smart Suite of Appliances to Transform Way Consumers Manage Their Lives

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 –- LG Electronics will today unveil a full range of home appliances equipped with the company’s proprietary smart technology, LG THINQ™, alongside its industry-leading core technologies. Marking the first time LG has brought a full lineup of home appliances to the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES®), the company will be debuting LG THINQ™ in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9.

At the heart of the lineup this year are LG’s innovative new smart features –- Smart Grid, Smart Diagnosis™, Smart Access, Smart Adapt and Food Management -– which allow homeowners to manage refrigerators, washing machines, ovens and robotic vacuum cleaners via a smart network. In combination with LG’s signature technologies, the new innovations will deliver big savings in energy, time and expense, helping enrich consumers’ lives.

“We’re excited to add home appliances to our largest ever lineup of total LG innovations ever to be shown at CES,” said Young-ha Lee, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “By drawing on LG’s latest IT and mobile technology, our smart appliances promise to be real game changers, offering a big leap forward in convenience and efficiency.”

LG THINQ™ –- Smarter Solutions for a More Empowered and Convenient Life
Using “Recommend Time” and “Lowest Rate” options, LG’s Smart Grid can program washing machines to do the washing at the most cost-effective times. LG’s ovens also tap into the Smart Grid to offer varying cost options that take into account the duration and electrical cost of the cooking. Similarly, LG’s refrigerators can adjust their functions to save on energy bills at peak times, or ramp up cooling power when energy rates are low.

LG Smart Diagnosis™ notices when anything goes wrong on a home appliance. For minor problems, such as a refrigerator door left open, the appliance alerts the owner on its display panel or, in future models, via a Wi-Fi connection, on the consumer’s smart-phone or tablet PC. Thanks to this Smart Diagnosis™ system, service technicians will know exactly what to fix and when, helping to quickly troubleshoot issues and save time and money.

Thanks to the monitoring and control functions of LG Smart Access, consumers can oversee their household chores regardless of their location. Through smart-phones or tablet PCs, they can see how much longer their food has to cook, or check the temperature and contents of the refrigerator. Consumers will even have the option of instructing their LG robotic vacuum cleaner to clean up or keep watch over the house while they’re out.

LG Smart Adapt lets consumers download the latest options for their appliances, including pre-programmed recipes or washing cycles that best fit their lifestyle. In addition, with its drag and drop icons and voice recognition function, LG Food Management makes it easy to keep track of where everything is in the refrigerator and when it all expires.

Also being unveiled at CES is LG’s Smart TV Upgrader (ST600), which offers consumers a full range of Smart TV functions on regular TVs via an HDMI link.

LG’S LW6500 TURNS LIVING ROOM INTO 3D MOVIE THEATER

Cinema 3D Technology Combines Wide-Angle Viewing,
Lightweight, Affordable Glasses

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 — LG Electronics today introduced the LW6500, a CINEMA 3D TV that takes 3D images to new heights with crisp images for a better 3D effect and clearer wide-angle viewing. The lightweight, affordable polarized 3D glasses make it easy for viewers to enjoy 3D content in the company of family and friends.

The LW6500 features 3D Light Boost, a thin film covering the screen that ensures 3D images are shown at full brightness. 3D Light Boost creates bright, crisp 3D images for a superior 3D viewing experience by counteracting any dimness that can occur with 3D content.

The LW6500’s CINEMA 3D TV uses a similar 3D technology employed in cinemas. The Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) optimizes the separation of images for the left and right eye, which are then filtered through the glasses to give viewers a better 3D effect with minimal cross-talk.

The LW6500 is bundled with four pairs of lightweight, highly affordable 3D glasses. Similar to the 3D glasses used in theaters, the Cinema 3D glasses do not have a battery and never need charging.  Since the glasses do not need to sync with an emitter, viewers can watch from nearly any angle in the room, even lying down in front of the TV. The low cost of the glasses also makes it easier to buy as many pairs as needed for friends and family.

The LW6500 features LED Plus technology with local dimming for an excellent 2D picture.  It also includes LG’s SmartTV technology with Magic Remote, which provides access to and the LG App Store and a wide range of premium content via HuluPlusTM, YouTubeTM and many others. The LW6500 also converts content from 2D to high quality 3D using LG’s proprietary conversion algorithm, and supports any kind of 3D source including DLNA, USB 2.0, RF broadcasting and HDMI 1.4.
