Company’s Eye-Catching Solutions Showcase Next-Level Imagery as Well as
Added Convenience That Makes People’s Day-to-day Business Run Smoothly

LG MAGNIT and a woman sitting next to the display

SEOUL, May 10, 2022 — LG Electronics (LG) is showcasing its ground-breaking information display technology at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2022, Barcelona, as anticipation grows after its two-year hiatus. At this year’s ISE, LG is promoting its Move Daily Life Forward theme which builds on the company’s Innovation for a Better Life slogan. Ranging from Transparent OLED Signage, Micro LED to full lineups of LED signage products, LG will be showcasing its latest business offerings which combine digital signage solutions with useful application tools to elevate post-pandemic communications and move us a step closer to life without limits.

With people spending more time at home, activities typically undertaken outside are now taking place in the comfort of home. Consumers are now going online to work (WFH), take classes, attend doctor appointments and carry out hobbies at home. In line with this trend, LG is showcasing LG MAGNIT and LG One:Quick Flex which leverage the company’s commercial display expertise to create next-gen home displays.

LG MAGNIT, which has already infiltrated several commercial areas since its 2020 debut, is now setting its sights on redefining the premium home cinema by providing a next-level viewing experience, aesthetically-pleasing design and gigantic 136-inch 4K UHD (3,840 x 2,160) screen. The jaw-dropping picture quality created by its several million self-emissive LED pixels lets people enjoy their favorite movies, TV shows, sports events and artwork in privacy at home. And to make watching content easier and more enjoyable, several popular streaming apps are accessible via LG’s webOS 6.0 smart TV platform. Additionally, when paired with Bang & Olufsen’s flagship Beolab 90 home speaker, LG MAGNIT delivers an even more immersive home cinema experience.

The One:Quick Flex is another innovative solution transforming home entertainment. The all-in-one display combines a built-in microphone, camera and speakers with a 43-inch 4K UHD (3,840 x 2,160) screen and optional movable stand. With its simple touch-based setup and user-friendly Windows OS, it is not only suitable for WFH, but for distance learning, video conferencing, remote training and entertainment as well. In addition, the larger 55-inch One:Quick Works, which combines built-in touch capabilities with intuitive video conferencing tools, is popular in educational and corporate environments, since its easy UX and added convenience let multiple users instantly connect and dive right into work or lesson plans.

On the other end of the spectrum, high-end executive offices are placing Transparent OLED on glass walls to create bright and futuristic imaging and useful meeting tools. Transparent OLED is also being utilized in the transportation sector as advertising or information displays on station windows. It has even made its way into museums, greeting visitors at the door and overlaying objects with context for a more extraordinary experience. Transparent OLED Touch has also gained popularity as interactive displays.

The Technology and Engineering Award-winning 65-inch UltraFine™ Display OLED Pro was built with studio professionals in mind. It supports pro-grade interfaces, such as SDI and SFP, and can render the source’s original, high-quality resolution without scaling down. What’s more, for colorists spending countless hours behind a screen, the UltraFine Display OLED Pro meets Eyesafe Standards and helps protect their eyes from blue light. LG UltraFine OLED Pro can be used in post-production companies as well as OTT companies when screening.

LG is also exhibiting several innovations centered around mission critical environments. Fine-pitch LED’s high definition and bezel-less design displays every fine detail clearly, while the bezel-less 54-inch LED Bloc allows customers to use it like a 55-inch LCD video wall display with easy installation – it even fits the brackets of existing LCD video wall models.* These features have made them useful in corporate control rooms, auditoriums and virtual classrooms.

In retail, LG’s Content Management Solution, SuperSign QSR, delivers customers a dynamic menu board while behind the scenes it streamlines the kitchen display system and integrates with the PoS system. Another featured product for outdoor customer interactions is the 21.5-inch high brightness touch display. Whether it’s at a drive-thru kiosk, gas pump or EV charger, this durable signage is useful as it stands up to harsh weather conditions and dust with a brightness that makes information easy to read.

Amidst all the cross-sector synergy, LG is also presenting cloud solutions specifically designed for specific industries or use cases. For example, Pro:Centric Cloud has been engineered to transform hospitality management by taking Pro:Centric, LG’s flexible and intuitive content management system for hospitality, and expanding it across multiple properties via cloud-based architecture. Now, hotels can offer personalized services, maintain consistent imaging and collect behavioral data across multiple branches, all centralized in one place.

“At this year’s ISE, we are excited to demonstrate the life-enhancing solutions that have been developed to change people’s lives for the better. Our sharp and seamless imagery stands out, especially in a crowded setting like this, and what’s more our vertical solutions are creating new possibilities,” said Paik Ki-mun, senior vice president and head of the Information Display business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “We’re finding new ways to make it easier to make a positive impact, no matter the field.”

These revolutionary business solutions will be on display in Hall 3 of Fira Barcelona’s Gran Via from May 10-13. For those unable to attend, LG has a dedicated ISE page at www.lg-informationdisplay.com/ise2022 which includes videos of the zones and content to be added live during the event.

Leading the Future of Mobility

The future of mobility is just around the corner, with vehicle electrification underway and fully autonomous vehicles getting closer by the day. For some, it may come as a surprise to learn that LG Electronics develops and manufactures many of the core components and technologies now reshaping the automotive experience. In a relatively short space of time, the company has become a major player in the vehicle component business and is doing all that it can to accelerate the arrival of mobility’s exciting future.

In addition to the LG Vehicle component Solutions (VS) Company, which is the official name of LG’s dedicated vehicle parts business, a number of companies from across the LG Group are actively engaged in driving auto innovation forward. LG Innotek and LG Display work collaboratively to produce telematics and driver assistance systems, as well as IVI systems, while LG Energy Solution and LG Innotek have joined forces to deliver battery packs, battery cells and charging communication controllers. Advanced vehicle headlamps and rear lights are provided through ZKW Group, acquired by LG in 2018, and driving units – including motors, inverters and in-vehicle chargers – are being developed by LG Magna e-Powertrain and LG Innotek.

Two robot arms are crafting an image of an automobile

Primarily known as a leading consumer electronics maker, LG recognized early on that its broad range of core competencies – including innovative home appliances and home entertainment technologies – would enable it to compete in the emerging autonomous driving and electric vehicle markets. Its vast experience and know-how in diverse product and tech fields have given LG a strong advantage in the wider future mobility sector, and allowed it to meet rising demand from global automakers.

John Legend in suit posing in front of LG Wine Cellar

Some things just go together. Like bagels and cream cheese, or a warm summer’s evening and a chilled glass of wine. Another perfect pairing is LG SIGNATURE and award-winning artist, John Legend. The premium brand and its world-famous ambassador recently teamed up for a memorable night complete with a special guest list and the unveiling of a special, limited-edition wine from Legend’s own LVE label.

The invite-only occasion, themed Timeless Moments with Loved Ones, took place on May 3 at Wappo Hill, the sprawling and elegantly-appointed private residence of Jean-Charles Boisset, the celebrated vintner and co-founder of LVE.

Among the evening’s special guests were international style authority, Olivia Palermo, and noted wine critic James Suckling, both of whom also serve as LG SIGNATURE global brand ambassadors. Other VIP attendees included LG SIGNATURE premium customers, retail partners and local and international wine reviewers.

John Legend performing his songs with the piano at the event

To set the scene, Legend and Boisset were joined by an LG SIGNATURE representative to share the story of the exclusive wine – from the original idea for their collaboration to an inviting description of the full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon’s rich, complex flavors. Guests were then treated to a private concert from Legend himself, with the GRAMMY Award-winning artist performing fan-favorites including “All of Me,” and giving a soulful rendition of “You Deserve It All,” the song he penned for LG SIGNATURE in 2021.

Legend then turned the proceedings over to James Suckling, who hosted a special session on wine preservation, offering practical tips and outlining the impressive features and benefits of the LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar. And, to finish things off with a flourish, Boisset’s head chef Rafael Molina served up a gourmet three-course meal, which was artfully paired with LVE’s delectable wines.

The limited-edition Legend X SIGNATURE wine is a 2018-vintage cabernet sauvignon crafted at Napa Valley’s renowned Raymond Vineyards. As one of the finest Cabernet Sauvignons, this wine was carefully selected and produced by Stephanie Putnam, director of winemaking at Raymond Vineyards. A delight to drink, the wine has a full, well-rounded flavor profile that owes much to 2018’s superb growing season. Offering the precise temperature- and humidity-controlled conditions needed for optimal preservation, the LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar is the ideal home solution for keeping wines of all types at their best.

Only 300 bottles of the LVE cabernet sauvignon have been produced, with 50 served at the Wappo Hill event and the remainder set aside for customers purchasing an LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar.

Regarding the exclusive evening of wine, food and music, Legend noted, “It was a pleasure to celebrate our limited-edition wine with music in such an intimate environment for people to truly experience the magic of LG SIGNATURE and LVE.”

LG Electronics Honored by U.S. EPA as 2022 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year

Recognized for ‘Sustained Excellence’ in Environmental Sustainability,
LG Also Wins EPA’s Emerging Technology Award
The logo of the Energy Star Award 2022 given to Partner of the Year in its ‘Sustained Excellence’ category.

SEOUL, May 5, 2022 – LG Electronics (LG) has been named 2022 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year-Sustained Excellence by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This prestigious honor, a distinction LG has received nine times since 2012, recognizes the company’s exemplary commitment to protecting the environment through leadership in ENERGY STAR certified products and promotions.

In addition to the Partner of the Year Award, LG received the ENERGY STAR Emerging Technology Award last month with the EPA honoring 43 LG refrigerator-freezer models, more than any other brand. The award-winning models feature advanced adaptive compressors and use R-600a, a refrigerant with very low global-warming potential (GWP).

Refrigerators that earn this environmental distinction outperform the federal minimum standard by at least 25 percent when the compressor is in adaptive mode compared to when the compressor is in a fixed-speed mode. Recognized products also contain low GWP (below 15) refrigerant and foam. Inverter Linear Compressor™* found in LG’s refrigerator lineups efficiently keep food fresh longer and noise levels lower compared to LG’s conventional models.

Each year, the ENERGY STAR program honors a group of businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy achievements. ENERGY STAR award winners lead their industries in the production, sale and adoption of energy-efficient products, homes, buildings, services and strategies. These efforts are essential to fighting the climate crisis and protecting public health.

Under its Zero Negative Environmental Impact initiative, LG plans to establish more production sites that make a positive impact on the environment. To ensure that the company reaches its stretch goals for carbon neutrality and circular economy, LG announced its intention to reduce the use of petrochemical-based plastics by introducing up to 600,000 tons of recycled plastic into its manufacturing process by 2030 and nearly double the recovery of electronic waste to 8 million tons by then.

LG is demonstrating what it takes to build a more sustainable future, according to EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “They are showing once again that taking action in support of a clean energy economy can be good not only for the environment, but also for business and customers. We know it’s going to take all of us working together to tackle the climate crisis,” he said.

Eco-conscious Home Entertainment: LG’s Latest OLED TVs and Soundbars Showcase Commitment to A Better Life for All

With the health of the environment arguably one of the most pressing concerns in the world today, it is a good time to take stock, reflect and give serious thought to how we can all do our part to create a more sustainable future. In the consumer electronics industry, LG continues to show its commitment to protecting the planet and delivering a better life for all by reducing the environmental impact of its innovations at every stage of the product lifecycle.

The latest home entertainment solutions from LG serve as fine examples of the company’s efforts to provide maximum user convenience at minimal cost to the Earth. Emblematic of this goal, LG OLED TVs deliver stunning viewing experiences while using a smaller number of components and offering greater recyclability than their LCD counterparts. LG’s self-emissive displays don’t require a backlight like LCD TVs, and because they have fewer parts overall, there is less to recycle and dispose of. For example, the 65-inch LG OLED evo C2 model uses just 40 percent of the plastic of its LCD TV equivalent (model 65UQ80).

A doughnut chart explaining the 4-stage cycle of Waste Recovery & Recycling, Green Product Design, Eco-Packaging and Carbon Emission Reduction.

The eco-conscious qualities of LG’s 2022 OLED TVs have been recognized by one of the world’s foremost providers of testing, inspection and certification services, attaining Société Générale de Surveillance SA (SGS) Eco-Product recognition.1 The select 2022 LG OLED evo TVs will display the Carbon Trust’s product carbon footprint label for reducing CO2 throughout the entire product lifecycle.2 Moreover, they also achieved validation to the UL 2809 Environmental Claim Validation Procedure (ECVP) for Recycled Content Standard from global safety science leader, UL, which confirms these products are indeed as environmentally responsible as advertised.3

For its 2022 OLED TVs4, LG has adopted the use of a new composite fiber material that helps reduce product weight. Additionally, the packaging used for the latest LG OLED TVs is made for recyclable materials and features single-color printing to further save on energy and resources.

LG OLED evo TVs packed in recyclable boxes featuring single-color printing to save on energy and resources.

The LG Soundbar lineup also reveals the company’s dedication to environmentally-conscious design. Its sophisticated audio solutions utilize reused and easily recyclable materials, consume only a small amount of power when in use and ship in sustainable packaging. And to top it off, every 2022 LG Soundbar model has received SGS Eco-Product certification in recognition of their environmental impact.

A picture simply explaining how LG's soundbars are made out of recycled plastic bottles

Furthermore, this year’s soundbars are comprised of parts that have been fabricated from recycled plastic resin. The amount of recycled material used in LG’s new soundbars has been confirmed by UL’s ECVP for Recycled Content Standard and many of LG’s 2022 soundbars also feature a polyester jersey fabric that meets the Global Recycled Standard (GRS).5 What’s more, 2022 LG Soundbars are ENERGY STAR® certified thanks to their efficient use of power.

LG uses recycled pulp instead of EPS foam for its soundbar packaging which is far friendlier to the environment

By considering the impact our actions have on the environment, and finding better, more sustainable ways to get things done, we can all help to bring about positive change. As a leader in home entertainment innovation, LG will continue to do its part to protect the planet and pave the way to a brighter tomorrow.

Empowering Thousands in Kenya to Live Better

In its mission to make the world a better place to live for everyone, LG Electronics will forever champion the importance of social contribution and doing more as a company to help those that can’t help themselves.

LG East Africa has been actively carrying out diverse social initiatives to help improve education, environment and health standards in the region over the last few years and has already made a lasting impact on thousands of locals. This year, LG East Africa partnered again with Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Kenya for its second CSR project to support more than 25,000 Kenyans in Laikipia County.

Early this January, LG in partnership with HFH Kenya launched several social initiatives valued at around USD 90,000 (KES 10.3 million) to benefit more than 3,000 primary and secondary school students and the 22,000 residents receiving supplies from the Olmoran and Maundu Meri Dispensaries every year. At least two dispensaries and seven schools within Mbombo and Rumuruti will see positive changes from these initiatives.

Many children and teachers at these schools have limited access to clean, safe water and must make regular trips to far-away dams. To make matters worse, school infrastructure is severely lacking with classrooms, which are mostly made from mud and old iron roof sheets, lacking doors, windows and proper sanitation.

To make life better for the children, LG aims to directly resolve the challenges facing these vibrant communities. The company is building new classrooms and toilet facilities and furnishing them with proper school desks, tables and equipment, with construction expected to be completed by June. Over 20 LG products including refrigerators, washers, water purifiers, air conditioners, TVs and microwaves have been donated so far.

This initiative is a continuation of LG Electronics’ continued partnership with HFH, first partnering with the Korean branch in 2020 to launch the LG Come Home Challenge, inviting fans to create short videos on how much they love their home. In return, LG made generous donations and gifted appliances to newly built homes in Kenya, Vietnam and India.

LG Announces First-Quarter 2022 Financial Results

Highest Quarterly Revenue in Company’s History Reflect
Strong Demand for Premium LG Home Appliances and Auto Parts

A picture of LG Twin Towers in the daytime

SEOUL, April 28, 2022 — LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced first-quarter 2022 consolidated sales of KRW 21.11 trillion (USD 17.53 billion) – the highest quarterly revenue in company history. Operating profit of KRW 1.88 trillion (USD 1.56 billion) was positively impacted by royalty income, partially offset by a one-time workforce restructuring cost.

Compared with the first quarter a year ago, revenues grew by 18.5 percent and profitability soared by 6.4 percent, reflecting very strong demand for LG home appliances as consumers around the world continue their focus on healthier living, energy efficiency and home upgrades. The vehicle component business unit’s sales increased driven by higher demand for auto parts as a result of a proactive and preemptive response to shortages of automotive semiconductors.

The LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company generated first-quarter sales of KRW 7.97 trillion (USD 6.62 billion), with operating profit of KRW 447.60 billion (USD 371.68 million). Sales increased 18.8 percent from the same quarter last year, recording the business unit’s highest quarterly revenue. Stable growth was driven largely by strong performance in premium appliances and new categories such as hygiene products applied with steam technology. The appliance business expects to see continued growth by expanding overseas sales in new appliance categories.

The LG Home Entertainment Company recorded sales of KRW 4.06 trillion (USD 3.38 billion) with an operating profit of KRW 188.40 billion (USD 156.44 million). Sales increased 1.4 percent from the same period a year ago driven by continued demand for premium products including OLED and large-screen TVs in Europe and North America. The business unit expects continued growth by expanding sales of premium TVs including LG OLED TVs, QNED TVs and large-screen TVs.

The LG Vehicle component Solutions Company achieved first-quarter sales of KRW 1.88 trillion (USD 1.56 billion). The sales increase of 8.5 percent from the same period last year reflected a preemptive response to shortages of automotive semiconductors. The business unit’s first-quarter operating loss is narrowing to KRW 6.30 billion (USD 5.23 million), and the company has implemented better cost management to further improve profitability.

The LG Business Solutions Company saw improved first-quarter revenues of KRW 2.02 trillion (USD 1.67 billion), an increase of 23.7 percent from a year ago largely on the back of continued demand for products such as monitors and PC products in the beginning of academic season and recovery of the B2B segment, while product competitiveness and operational efficiencies also improved.

[The Future of Manufacturing: Lighthouse Factory] LG Smart Park

Image of LG Smart Park in Changwon, Korea, with the phrase 'Lighting the way ahead, LG Smart Park. Selected as the World Economic Forum's Lighthouse Factory' overlapping.

Much as a lighthouse guides ships into harbor at night, a Lighthouse Factory serves as a beacon for global manufacturing, shining a light on the future of production through the adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies. Earlier this year, LG Electronics (LG) joined the World Economic Forum’s Global Lighthouse Network when its facility in Changwon, South Korea – named LG Smart Park – was selected as a Lighthouse Factory.

In 2017, LG began transforming its Changwon plant, which had long been the center of the company’s global home appliance manufacturing network, into a ‘next-gen’ production hub. By automating core processes with advanced AI and big data, LG’s state-of-the-art facility has achieved greater all-around efficiency and is better able to respond to the diverse and ever-changing needs of today’s consumers.

Let’s take a look at major innovations that helped earn LG Smart Park its Lighthouse Factory designation.

Innovation #1. Optimized Production Logistics with ‘Digital Twin’ Technology

A computer-generated image of a production line next to a promotional image for LG’s Digital Twin Technology refrigerators with the text, 'up to 58 types.'

One of the key factors in the successful digital transformation of LG Smart Park is LG’s unique Digital Twin technology. Recreating the production line in virtual reality, it can simulate various production scenarios and take preemptive action to keep everything in the real factory running as smoothly as possible.

LG’s Digital Twin analyzes production data every 30 seconds, enabling it to accurately identify any issues that are likely to occur within the next 10 minutes. If a problem is discovered, it notifies workers so that they can take appropriate action to avert potential disruptions to the schedule. With this exceptional technology, LG can ensure the dependable, on-time supply of parts and materials for each appliance model being fabricated on the facility’s mixed production lines.

Innovation #2. Automated, Three-dimensional Logistics System

Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) and Overhead Conveyors at LG Smart Factory in Changwon, Korea.

The three-dimensional logistics system employed at LG Smart Park uses factory space more efficiently than the conventional logistics setup used at the Changwon plant.1 The system takes advantage of the space above the factory floor with a vast, overhead conveyor system that works in unison with ground-based, 5G-enabled automated guided vehicles (AGVs) to quickly transport parts and materials to wherever they are needed.

A photo taken during the interview with Kang Myeung-souk, task leader of Kitchen Appliance Production Advancement Task

“Logistics is like the blood vessels in the human body,” said Kang Myeung-souk, task leader of Kitchen Appliance Production Advancement Task. “To make the ‘blood’ flow well, we designed and built an organic communications network for our complex logistic system complete with AGVs leveraging high-speed 5G.”

Innovation #3. Advanced Analytics System based on Edge Computing Technology and Machine Learning

[Earth Day with LG 🌎] Making a Difference with Water-Efficient Home Appliances

Planet Earth submerged in water

Water is one of the most precious natural resources. Without it, life on Earth would simply cease to exist. Although it is true that 71 percent of the world is covered by water, only three percent of that is fresh water1 which is why we must do better to conserve what we have. And, as we celebrate Earth Day today, now is the ideal time to invest in our planet and commit to managing our water more sustainably.

An illustration of LG home appliances placed on Earth

Home is always a good place to start looking for ways to make a difference. Even small changes to one’s daily habits, such as taking shorter showers, can help out – especially if everyone in the house gets on the same page. Another excellent way to cut water usage at home is by investing in water-efficient appliances, such as those from LG.

Clean Clothes and Intelligent Water-Savings

A woman opening up the door of LG Dryer which is the part of LG WashTower

Despite getting clothes clean, some washing machines consume an excessive amount of water. This, however, can be solved by LG washers featuring the Artificial Intelligence Direct Drive™ (AI DD™), which suggest the optimal wash cycle for each load by detecting the weight and fabric softness of clothing.2 They also employ LG’s own TurboWash™ 360 technology, which uses a 3D ‘multi-nozzle’ that sprays water in four different directions simultaneously. The result is clean clothes, shorter cycle lengths and less water usage without any sacrifice to washing performance whatsoever.3

A door of LG's Front-Load Washer surrounded by a water ring

Additionally, LG’s latest washers come with ezDispense™, a clever feature that automatically dispenses the optimal amount of detergent needed for the load being washed. It boosts washing efficiency by reducing the number of rinses needed per-cycle. ENERGY STAR-labelled products that help consumers save money while helping the planet, the company’s latest washers use 25 percent less energy and 33 percent less water than conventional models.4

Sparkling Clean Dishes, Lower Water Consumption

An image demonstrating LG's QuadWash Technology with multi-motion spray arms rotating back and forth

As well as providing greater convenience in the kitchen, a dishwasher can also deliver efficient water usage.5 Through precise control of water circulation and spray intensity, ENERGY STAR-certified dishwashers cost only USD 35 per-year to run and save on average 3,870 gallons of water over their lifetime.6

Much like the company’s washing machines, the LG dishwasher uses less water without compromising cleaning performance. LG’s QuadWash™ technology has Multi-Motion spray arms that rotate back and forth to separate food and oil from dishware, while TrueSteam™ helps to reduce the occurrence of water spots, leaving dishware sparkling clean.7

The Right Amount of Water for Clean Floors

The LG CordZero A9 Kompressor stick vacuum cleaner with Power Mop cleaning the dirty floor messed with footprints

Designed to make mopping easier and less water intensive than taking to the floor with a mop and bucket, the LG CordZero™A9 Kompressor stick vacuum cleaner with Power Mop™ is ideal for keeping hard-floor surfaces clean. The Power Mop attachment has an efficient, automatic water supply system that ensures the two rapidly-rotating mop pads have just the right amount of water to clean with.

The LG CordZero M9 robotic vacuum cleaner, which also has a mop function, is likewise equipped with the company’s advanced, automatic water supply system. To prevent unnecessary water usage, the water supply system shuts off when the CordZero M9 has finished its mopping.

An illustration of planet Earth

Water gives us life, and in return, we must do all that we can to manage it more sustainably. Through being mindful of our daily habits, and choosing appliances that use less water, each of us can do our part to conserve the Earth’s most precious of resources and help bring about a better future for all.

2 Average water consumption reduced by approximately by 10.6 percent with AI DD™ when tested by Intertek in April 2020 on Cotton cycle with load comprising 3kg of underwear in conventional LG washer model F21VDT and LG AI DD washer model W16SK. Results may differ depending on product models and actual usage environment.
3 Tested by Intertek in April 2020 on Normal cycle with TurboWash 360(TURBOSHOT) activated with load comprising 3kg of laundry. LG TurboWash 360 model W16SK uses approximately 36 percent less water and shortens cycle length by 46 percent compared to the same model with same load size set to Normal cycle without TurboWash 360(TURBOSHOT) selected. The product models and results may differ depending on regions and actual usage environment.

[Earth Day with LG 🌎] Go Green on Earth Day With Smart Home Technology

An illustration of Earth, smartphone with LG ThinQ app and people with the phrase 'Celebrating Earth Day with LG ThinQ'

With Earth Day just around the corner, what better time to get serious about going green? Taking the first steps doesn’t have to be difficult as today’s smart home tech can help kickstart your journey to sustainability by providing an effortless way to shrink household energy and water use. LG’s smart home platform, LG ThinQ, introduces a variety of new, eco-responsible features that deliver maximum convenience while putting you further along the path to greener living. Here’s a look at how the latest smart technologies from LG can help transform the home into a place where ‘Earth Day is every day.’

A user controlling LG PuriCare Air Purifier utilizing LG ThinQ app

Energy Saving Made Simple

Saving energy at home is much simpler with the LG ThinQ app and its smart sustainability features, which allow users to effortlessly optimize the energy efficiency of their appliances. The app even takes usage patterns into consideration – for instance, it can adjust the refrigerator’s power consumption to the lowest level during nighttime hours, when family members or roommates are far less likely to be opening and shutting the fridge door in search of ingredients or snacks. One unexpected perk is that you’ll be able to see exactly how much energy you’re saving with these energy-efficient activities as well. With the ThinQ app by your side, you’ll gain insight into the monthly usage insights of your household gadgets.

Remote control and monitoring features also help to cut unnecessary electricity use. Let’s say, for example, that the front door has been locked and everyone has set off for a much-needed vacation, but one of the appliances has accidentally been left on. With the LG ThinQ app, that’s not a problem. From any location, simply pull out your smartphone, check the status of each appliance,1 then turn off whichever one is still running. With that done, there’s nothing left to do but get down to the serious business of R & R.

A picture of LG InstaView, a box of eggs and a smartphone with LG ThinQ app on

Handy Notification for Preventing Waste

Beyond reducing how much energy is used at home, how else can we be more sustainable in our daily lives? The LG ThinQ app provides some well thought-out answers with features such as the food expiration date alert. Letting users know when fresh food stored in their fridge is getting close to expiring, these useful alerts can help prevent perfectly good food from going to waste – which is simultaneously good for the planet and household grocery spending. All you need do is register the expiration date of each food item when putting them in the refrigerator. And if you still haven’t gotten around to using a particular ingredient by the time its best-by date is imminent, the app will conveniently remind you with a handy smartphone notification.

Moving from the kitchen to the laundry room, the LG ThinQ app offers a clever cycle-recommendation feature that ensures clean clothes without any waste of water or detergent. After LG’s smart washer – with the help of the company’s AI DD™ technology – has determined fabric-type and load-weight, the app suggests the optimal cycle for the job: one that uses only what is needed to deliver the best results for your laundry, and for the environment.

Extending the Lifespan of Home Appliances

Keeping appliances in top working order is always a good idea as it will help to extend their lifespan and save you money. Not only does this worthwhile endeavor lead to fewer big-ticket purchases for the home over the long run, it can also potentially save you money every month by helping to prevent excessive power consumption during regular operation. Another plus to taking good care of your appliances it that it puts less strain on the world’s recycling plants, which play an important role in preserving the Earth’s finite resources. Designed to support users in maintaining their LG home appliances, the ThinQ app’s Smart Diagnosis feature2 makes it possible to conduct quick checkups to ensure that everything is functioning as intended. In addition to preventative care, the app provides reminders when it’s time to replace a product’s filters.

Taking things a step further, LG recently announced the upcoming launch of its Upgradeable Appliances – appliances that let users download new features and functions from the ThinQ app’s Upgrade Center, and enjoy more and more value over time. Offering new and constantly evolving user experiences without the need to ‘upgrade’ to a newer model, LG’s Upgradeable Appliance paradigm has the potential to further extend the lifespan of the company’s electronics products and help ease the global problem of e-waste.

With the latest smart home technologies from providers like LG, life can be more convenient and more sustainable than ever. Happy Earth Day!
