2022 LG UltraFine OLED Pro Monitors for Creatives Set New Standard for Picture Quality

Boasting Accurate Color Reproduction and Outstanding HDR Performance,
Newest Displays Are Ideal for Editing High-Resolution Images and Videos

LG UltraFine Display OLED Pro monitor – front view

SEOUL, Dec. 17, 2021 — LG Electronics (LG) is once again setting higher expectations for professional-grade display solutions with the announcement of its 2022 LG UltraFineTM OLED Pro monitors (models 32BP95E, 27BP95E). Delivering the advantages of OLED’s self-lit pixels to the desktop, the monitors provide the accurate color reproduction and superb HDR and SDR performance that professional visual effects artists, video editors and other creative industry roles demand.

LG’s newest 32- and 27-inch OLED Pro models boast 4K UHD resolution (3,840 x 2,160) screens with 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 99 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, making them suitable for even the most detailed digital projects. Both new displays offer independent pixel control for impressive color fidelity and contrast and because OLED displays do not require backlighting, these UltraFine monitors are free of the distracting halo effect, or blooming, common on many LCD displays.

To ensure that these models display vibrant colors as intended under the conditions optimal for productivity, both OLED Pro monitors come with detachable self-calibration sensors and monitor hoods. When used with the free-to-download LG Calibration Studio software, the calibration sensor measures the light emitted from the display at times predetermined by the user and automatically makes the necessary adjustments to maintain a high degree of color accuracy and consistency. For even more color and image accuracy, the hood can be attached to prevent distracting reflections and glare from external light sources.

Both UltraFine OLED Pro devices offer slim, elegant form factors and are light weight for easy relocation to different rooms and desks. The included stand attaches securely to the rear of the display with a simple One-click mechanism and offers adjustability for height, pivot and tilt without sacrificing stability or style.

“Designed with creative professionals in mind, our new UltraFine OLED Pro monitors deliver sheer visual precision with stunning self-lit picture quality and reliable calibration,” said Seo Young-jae, senior vice president and head of the IT business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “The incredible accuracy, wide color gamut and ability to faithfully reproduce both HDR and SDR content make these premium display solutions ideal for professional users working in the film and digital media industries.”

The new LG UltraFine OLED Pro monitors will be available in key markets worldwide starting next month.

New Premium Soundbar From LG Delivers Next Level Audio for Today’s At-Home Lifestyle

LG Elevates Listening Experience to New Heights While Reducing
Environmental Impact Throughout Entire Product Lifecycle

The LG Soundbar S95QR model with two rear speakers and a subwoofer.

SEOUL, Dec. 17, 2021 — At CES 2022, LG Electronics (LG) will introduce a new lineup of audio products with diverse models offering premium performance, unique and stylish designs and exciting, new sound experiences all the while ensuring accurate, immersive sound for home cinema, music and gaming.

LG’s impressive audio lineup is spearheaded by the premium LG Soundbar (model S95QR), which boasts an output of 810W and 9.1.5 channels of pure surround sound immersion as a holistic high-end audio solution. With five up-firing channels including the world’s first center up-firing speaker – three on the soundbar and two in the separate rear speakers – to improve clarity and enlarge the soundstage for the ultimate in realism. The perfect choice for movie lovers looking to elevate their home cinema experience, the LG Soundbar’s center up-firing speaker delivers clearer dialogue and makes Dolby Atmos and DTS:X content even more immersive. And with IMAX Enhanced, users can enjoy stunning three-dimensional audio when watching compatible content.

LG S95QR features several key enhancements, most notably a boost in performance of the new speaker drivers, speaker chambers and subwoofer. The larger woofers deliver a more premium audio quality with deep, resonant bass emulating the immersive sound system of a cinema. For 2022, LG upgraded the wireless rear speakers of its premium soundbar setup from four channels to six, with four front/side drivers to accompany the two up-firing drivers. An improvement over other speakers in this space, the rear speakers of LG Soundbar are designed to distribute sound evenly across a wide 135-degree space, giving customers more speaker placement and angle flexibility, especially beneficial for smaller rooms.

The soundbar features a more sensitive receiver that allows for more distance between the soundbar and accompanying subwoofer and rear speakers without sacrificing sound quality. With a more stable wireless connection, the LG S95QR eliminates drops or lags in audio output for distraction-free viewing and listening. Thanks to the inclusion of Meridian Audio’s Horizon technology in Music Mode, the soundbar can up-mix two channel audio to 7.1-channels for more realistic acoustic surround sound.

A superb solution for gamers and music lovers, LG Soundbar features variable refresh rate (VRR) and auto low latency mode (ALLM), making this product a must-have for console gamers who demand that the onscreen action and the audio be in perfect sync.1 With support for high-quality music streaming services, LG’s soundbar makes listening to one’s personal playlists and favorite artists all the more pleasurable.

What’s more, LG S95QR offers an intuitive user experience when working with to Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and other AI assistants. Via smart devices, owners can effortlessly control streaming music, adjust volume and change sound modes and control streaming music, using only their voice. And now with the LG WOWCAST Wi-Fi audio dongle, listeners can enjoy lossless muti-channel audio without the hassle of running an unsightly cable to the TV. 2

When connected to a compatible LG TV, LG Soundbar takes advantage of the TV’s advanced AI Sound Pro feature to make all content sound clearer and more lifelike. Cross-compatibility allows LG TV owners to use one remote to control both the TV and the soundbar. And with enhanced AI Room Calibration, model S95QR can tailor its sound output to any given space, analyzing the dimensions of the room to deliver more accurate low-frequency audio that is calibrated for maximum accuracy.

And again for 2022, the LG Soundbar lineup is designed with the environment in mind, with a lower carbon footprint throughout the entire product lifecycle. In addition to shipping in 100 percent paper packaging and using recycled plastic resin for its outer case, the new soundbar models utilize a new composite fiber material that is lighter in weight to cut carbon emissions during shipping and transporting. And due to their relatively modest power consumption, LG Soundbar products save energy during usage as well.

Starting January 4 (PST), visitors to LG’s virtual CES booth can experience the latest audio innovations for today’s lifestyles. The interactive digital exhibit will feature LG’s full 2022 Soundbar lineup, XBOOM 360, UltraGear Gaming Speaker and the TONE Free lineup of true wireless earbuds including the CES 2022 Innovation Award-winning FP9 featuring UVnano case, Plug & Wireless, 3D Sound Stage and the one-of-a-kind Whispering Mode. LG’s Indoor Gardening Appliance Presents Modern Concept for Greener, Healthier Homelife

Featuring Advanced Technologies Perfected Over Many Years of Home Appliance
Experience, Smart Garden Lets Consumers Grow Their Own Greens All Year-Round

A front view of LG tiiun Nature Beige indoor gardening appliance next to a sofa in a living room.

SEOUL, Dec. 16, 2021 — LG Electronics’ (LG) updated concept of green living will be unveiled at CES 2022 with its modern freestanding indoor gardening appliance, LG tiiun.1 Tiiun, which means “to sprout” in Korean, is an apt name for LG’s newest appliance that enables even the most novice of gardeners to cultivate vegetables, herbs and even flowers in the comfort of their own homes, all year long.2 Stylish and remarkably simple to use, LG’s latest lifestyle innovation offers all the benefits of a full-featured garden without the worries of pests or unfavorable climate.

Designed as a completely self-contained unit, LG tiiun features two shelves that can each hold up to six all-in-one seed packages along with three different kinds of seed kits. With each seed package containing 10 holes for seed germination, users can grow a variety of greens simultaneously for home-grown goodness in only four to eight weeks, faster with less mess thanks to the magic of technology and LG’s advanced know-how.

A CES 2022 Innovation Award winner, LG tiiun was recognized for its innovative technology and design and for the differentiated consumer benefit it delivers. This modern smart gardening system leverages LG’s technological expertise across multiple home appliance categories to deliver reliable results and an effortless, largely automated, plant cultivation process, employing various technologies from decades of expertise honed from developing advanced refrigerators, water purifiers and ventilation systems.

Utilizing LG’s renowned Inverter Compressor, the Flexible Weather Control System precisely adjusts tiiun’s internal temperature to create the optimal conditions for organic growth. As well as automatically regulating temperature and light to mimic the natural cycle of the day, LG’s smart gardening system delivers water eight times every 24 hours while its Auto Ebb & Watering System circulates the ideal amount of moisture to help transform the seeds into healthy greens and vibrant flowers.

The internal structure of LG tiiun is designed to increase photosynthesis efficiency, amplifying the effect of the internal LED light source to speed up the growing process. The transparent door lets users watch their plants grow while still providing an airtight seal to maintain a consistent internal temperature and keep pesky insects out. With LG’s mobile ThinQ™ app, users can monitor the entire germination process from afar, check or change settings and receive notifications when the water tank needs refilling.

A convenient solution for greener, healthier living at home, LG tiiun also provides value through its simple yet elegant design. Harmonizing beautifully with any style of interior décor, tiiun is showcased in two sophisticated and soothing colors: Nature Beige and Nature Green.

“LG tiiun is a practical and convenient solution for busy consumers who want to enjoy a greener, healthier lifestyle at home,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “A stylish addition to one’s home or apartment, our smart gardening system makes growing herbs, leafy greens and flowers fun and simple, even for those of us with zero gardening experience.”

LG tiiun and LG tiiun mini will be on virtual display in LG’s digital exhibition booth during CES 2022 starting January 5. See LG tiiun and other innovative home appliances in LG Home.

Mixing Old and New Methods to Bring Life Back to Forests

Volunteer workers planting trees as part of LG Spain’s Smart Green Movement.

Launched back in 2017, LG Spain’s Smart Green Movement aimed to plant 47 million trees across the nation – one tree for every Spaniard. When it began, the goal sounded overly ambitious but, as of this year, over 8 million trees have already been planted. Gaining momentum, this social movement gained even more global interest at the P4G Seoul Summit held in May.

Volunteer workers planting trees as part of LG Spain’s Smart Green Movement.

At this summit, Spain’s prime minister highlighted LG’s Smart Green Movement as a perfect example of how cooperation can protect the environment with the public. Just a few days earlier, the Spanish vice president visited LG Spain’s Passive House built to introduce the country’s most influential people to the Smart Green Movement. Until now, over 300 CEOs, ministers and regional presidents have walked through this connected house in Madrid, leading to several agreements to reforest many of Spain’s deserted areas.

A drone flying around to gather information about the surrounding area that will help minimize the environmental impact and aid germination of the land.

With 20 companies and several public administrations on board, deserted areas in Guadalajara, Palencia, Extremadura, Aragón and Valladolid are being revitalized with the help of a green startup company, CO2 Revolution. To maximize results and minimize environmental impact, CO2 Revolution utilizes technologies and a mix of drones, i-seeds and big data to effectively spread seeds with a better chance of germination across expansive areas.

Children carrying a large bucket of seed balls they made with the help of LG employees.

To encourage more people to participate in the movement, LG Spain brought back the age-old planting technique, ‘Nendo Dango’, which utilizes autochthonous seed balls made of clay and compost, so that children and senior citizens could make them during training sessions and plant them themselves. To date, more than 3,000 children from four towns in Madrid and Castile are creating seed balls during hour-long school lessons and then throwing them into terrains donated by city councils.

Children throwing homemade seed balls into donated lands to plant trees in the area.

The eager enthusiasm of the younger generation, who can learn and do more to have a positive impact, will be the soil for the Smart Green Movement to grow. LG Electronics plans to organize national festivities every October for coordinated reforestation with every local town hall involved. With the younger generation now leading the way, we’re well on our way to achieving our “one person, one tree” goal in Spain.

Blurring the Line Between Real and Digital With OLED TV and Art

LG’s OLED-inspired art campaign is wrapping up in London this week with its final show of the year taking place at the renowned Saatchi Gallery before moving on to other regions in 2022. The show, Media Art; Reinterpreted Time, features digitally remastered works from the biggest names in contemporary art given new life by the Royal College of Art. Also on display are a curated selection of diverse works from up-and-coming artists such as Je Baak, Luke Stephenson and Ruofan Chen.

Using LG’s self-lit OLED as a digital canvas, the artists deliver a range of unique perspectives on the concept of time through 20 LG OLED TV models including G1 Series OLED evo, Z1 Series 8K and LG SIGNATURE OLED R rollable TV incorporated throughout the exhibition. The OLED canvases’ immaculate picture quality blur the line between the real and digital worlds, perfectly preserving the artists’ creative intentions.

From left, 'THE S/H/A/R/K' by Damien Hirst and 'The Moment & Morpho Luna' by Je Baak displayed on LG OLED TVs at Saatchi Gallery

Part of a new generation pushing the boundaries of fine art, the talented young artists represented at the exhibit are visual innovators whose work encourages audiences to consider new perspectives and reevaluate what they know. Je Baak’s acclaimed video installation series, The Moment & Morpho Luna, comprises data-based works of art he calls “metabio art” that looks at the biological causal relationship between the metaverse space and actual space. Three LG OLED TVs – models 65R1, 65G1 and 88Z1 – serve as the medium through which Je Baak communicates the core concepts of his work. It’s because of OLED’s ability to deliver vibrant colors, infinite contrast and flexibility that Je Baak is able to create a depth of feeling and emotion that is palpable to the beholder.

In An Incomplete Dictionary of Show Birds, noted British photographer Luke Stephenson portrays various species of birds, each capturing a specific moment in time while hinting at the tension that exists between nature and construct in his art. With exceptionally bright, sharp images, the four 77-inch LG G1 Series OLED evo TVs are able to accurately portray the dramatic colors and details that are the hallmarks of Stephenson’s work.

London-based artist Ruofan Chen presents a set of visually-striking pieces that speak to the emotional connection humans have formed with the natural world throughout time. Central to one of her exhibited pieces, the rollable OLED TV stands stoically between precisely-arranged tree branches, juxtaposing technology with life, inviting viewers to interpret the connection between the inorganic and the organic.

Thanks to the involvement of Saatchi Gallery, the exhibition also features representative pieces from some of modern art’s most celebrated practitioners such as Damien Hurst, Yayoi Kusama, Banksy and Ufan Lee. Exposing new detail and nuance to allow viewers to look on the familiar with new eyes, selected works of the artists were digitally remastered by a team of specialists at London’s Royal College of Art, one of the foremost postgraduate art and design universities in the world.

Beyond accurately reproducing the colors and textures of the originals, LG’s OLED TVs reveal new meaning in the remastered works, bringing the themes of time, life, death, infinity and resistance to the fore. It is the unique ability of OLED’s self-lit pixels to recreate the real, while simultaneously revealing elements previously unseen, that has media artists worldwide excited about LG’s next-gen displays.

LG will follow up on Media Art; Reinterpreted Time with a unique visual and spatial experience featuring a number of LG OLED TVs at the Saatchi Gallery. Through a series of successful exhibitions held over the year, the SELF-LIT OLED Art project has succeeded in bringing attention to digital canvases as an important aspect of cutting-edge modern art.

The Warmth and Comfort of Family, Friends and Sustainable Heat Pump

It’s human nature to want to belong and to feel loved. After all, humans are social animals. Whether it’s visiting grandma’s farm every summer or the extended family gathering on dad’s birthday for the past twenty years, these events reinforce the sense of belonging and warmth that connect one generation to the next through the sharing of values and experiences.

LG’s recently launched #CareForWhereYouLive campaign is all about creating warmth and a feeling of belonging through advanced LG technologies. With LG Therma V air-to-water heat pump (AWHP), for example, anyone can create a warm and comfortable environment for family gatherings no matter how cold and windy it is outside.

Four images from LG’s YouTube video - a grandmother coming to greet her grandchild, a man blowing out birthday cake candles, a family having dinner together and a man painting his home.

The lead video in the heartwarming campaign begins with a elderly woman waiting patiently at her doorstep for her grandson, who is coming to stay with her. In a series of touching vignettes, we see how she cares for him as he grows from boy to teenager to man, and how she created the foundation for him to one day create a warm, loving home of his own. And when the time comes when grandmother can’t wait on her doorstep anymore, she will know that her grandson and his family will be in good hands with LG Therma V.

More sustainable than conventional heat pumps, AWHP systems use advanced technology and simple physics to move outdoor air indoors and vice versa, all while using less electricity and for greater energy efficiency. LG’s AWHP solution offers reliable space heating and hot water supply all year-round, without the use of any fossil fuels. Better for the home and the planet, LG’s sustainable system minimizes electricity consumption by an incredible 75 percent by using air drawn from outside the home as a heat source.1

At up to four times more energy efficient than a traditional boiler, LG Therma V is a cost-effective heating and hot water solution for any home. Recognizing the financial and environmental benefits of AWHP systems, many European governments are now offering tax reductions and other incentives to encourage more residents to make the switch to these low-impact solutions.2

#CareForWhereYouLive is the latest in an ongoing series of LG initiatives presenting simple ways that everyone can help do their part to ensure a better tomorrow. It follows LG’s successful #CareForWhatYouWear campaign encouraging people to adopt a more sustainable approach to their wardrobe.

The result may differ depending on the actual operation and usage environments. Therma V uses 75% of natural energy absorbed from outside air and the rest of 25% comes from electricity, significantly reducing CO2 emission compared to oil or gas boilers.

Helping Young Learners With the Gift of Technology

Despite technology playing a big part in our everyday lives, there are millions of families around the world that are unable to afford the basic tool to access such technology. In the UK alone, a 2020 report estimates that up to 1.8 million children do not have access to a computer at home. The pandemic moved us all to a more flexible and digital way of life, making technology an essential part of the education process, which means that many children across the country are at a serious disadvantage.

The LG team in the UK has long been passionate about giving youth the chance to reach their full potential. So, in collaboration with ReachOut, a leading UK charity that supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with weekly one-to-one mentoring, helping develop character, raise aspirations, and improve academic attainment, the LG UK team decided to take action. Starting with four schools across London, LG announced the Laptop Library program to support young people with free access to state-of-the-art technology and improve their digital education experience.

As part of the program, LG UK donated LG gram laptops to each school and equipped them with a portable and secure store and charge solutions which students can use to book out laptops for use at school or home specifically to support one-to-one mentoring sessions.

“It is incredibly tough for some students to keep up without access to proper technology,” said Kim Han-ju, IT Product Director at LG Electronics UK. “With our Laptop Library program, we hope to have a positive impact on the lives of these young people, each of whom deserves a future as bright as anyone else’s.”

Around 2,600 children are set to benefit from the initiative across the four schools, with plans to expand the initiative nationwide and donate LG Laptop Libraries to more schools in 2022 and beyond. To kick off the program, England football legend and father, Emile Heskey, visited one of the schools to unveil the Laptop Library and give a motivational talk to the students on the importance of education in setting up the foundations for a bright future.

“School education is so important in setting yourself up for the future, and I feel we sometimes take things like laptops for granted when there are some children that simply don’t have access,” said Emile, praising the program. “I’m really pleased to help launch this brilliant program alongside LG and ReachOut.”

LG Continues to Strengthen Patent Leadership in Mobile Technologies

Licenses Proprietary LTE Communications Technology to Wiko Parent Tinno Mobile

SEOUL, Dec. 2, 2021 — LG Electronics (LG) has signed an agreement to license all of its LTE standard essential patents (SEP) to Tinno Mobile, the Chinese parent company of European smartphone brand Wiko. The license covers all Wiko-branded phones sold by Tinno Mobile worldwide.

The recently completed arrangement is a strategic victory for LG, which filed three separate suits against Wiko in 2018 for infringing on its LTE SEPs. All cases were ruled in LG’s favor the following year, as were the two subsequent appeals filed by Wiko. The two companies were set to meet again in court this month, with LG seeking a sales ban on Wiko products in Germany, but came to an agreement three days before the new trial was set to begin.

LG has made protecting its intellectual property a key component of its business strategy in the era of mobility. As part of this broad strategy LG also filed legal action against TCL in 2019 for violating its intellectual property. Ruled in favor of LG earlier this year, the court granted a ban in Germany on the sale of TCL products containing LG technologies in addition to recall and destruction of TCL devices that had already been sold.

“Our agreement with Tinno Mobile is a positive outcome for all parties involved and will ultimately lead to better user experiences for consumers worldwide,” said Cho Hwi-jae, vice president and head of LG’s Intellectual Property Center. “Protecting our intellectual property is important to the many employees at LG who have invested countless hours and considerable efforts to developing the technology that improve our customers’ lives. LG is committed to licensing its standard essential patents on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms for the benefit of consumers everywhere.”

LG is already at work securing leadership in the next generation of mobile network technology, 6G, which is expected to be commercialized later this decade. In partnership with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea’s foremost research university, LG established the LG-KAIST 6G Research Center in 2019 and is working closely with Keysight Technologies to further enhance its 6G core capabilities. Earlier this year LG achieved a groundbreaking milestone in 6G development at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) in Berlin with the successful transmission of wireless 6G terahertz (THz) data over a distance of more than 100 meters outdoors.
