Era of New Elegance Starts With LG VELVET

Visually and Tactilely Pleasing, New Design Language and
User-Centric Features Deliver a Fresh Mobile Experience

Front and rear view of LG VELVET in New Black, Aurora Silver, Illusion Sunset, Aurora Green, Aurora White and Aurora Gray

SEOUL, June 15, 2020 — On the heels of its South Korea launch, the new LG VELVET smartphone will begin rolling out in key European markets this month. LG VELVET arrives in Germany, Italy, Spain, Hungary and Poland first, followed by various countries in North America, Asia, Middle East, Africa and Latin America in the weeks ahead.

LG VELVET’s new design, characterized by flowing lines, curved corners and symmetrical front and rear edges are all implementations of the new 3D Arc Design language. Smooth, polished surfaces, shimmering colors and elegant touches such as the “Raindrop” camera that evokes imagery of falling rain set LG VELVET apart from its peers. This new, nature-inspired design language makes LG VELVET visually striking and comfortable to hold.

Key to the design is LG VELVET’s thin 7.9 millimeter profile, only made possible with its 6.8-inch P-OLED Cinematic FullVision display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, the first mobile platform from the company to integrate an application processor and 5G modem for superb performance in a smaller package that requires less power. Compatible with the enhanced LG Dual Screen (sold separately), both the VELVET and Dual Screen displays work with compatible active stylus pens.

“Powered by the Snapdragon 765G, the LG VELVET is equipped to deliver exceptional performance to meet even the most demanding 5G use cases, while also enabling intelligent multi-camera capture, high-speed gaming and all-day battery life,” said Alex Katouzian, senior vice president and general manager of the Mobile Business Unit, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “We’re excited to continue working with LG to help deliver 5G to more consumers with this truly global device.”

LG VELVET offers a fully immersive mobile viewing and gaming experience thanks to an easy-to-hold 6.8-inch P-OLED Cinematic FullVision display with a 20.5:9 aspect ratio. To limit accidental touches on the bright, slightly curved display, LG developed the Grip Suppression algorithm that identifies deliberate versus unintentional screen touches. To match the sumptuous visuals, VELVET delivers realistic and detailed audio through its stereo speakers enhanced by LG 3D Sound Engine. And with the headphone jack nearly extinct on today’s smartphones, it is reassuring for audiophiles to know that LG VELVET has their backs.

LG VELVET offers a suite of advanced imaging solutions called LG Creator’s Kit that takes maximum advantage of the phone’s 48MP main camera, other high-quality lenses and unique camera software. Timelapse Control lets users adjust exactly how fast they want their videos to look, while ASMR Recording employs the two high-sensitivity microphones to capture the faintest of sounds in all their magnificent detail. Voice Bokeh minimizes background noise in videos to keep the focus on the subject while 3D AR Sticker and 3D Photo Effect make taking portraits of friends and family a whole new experience.

To meet the diverse tastes of consumers, LG VELVET comes in a range of expressive, nature-inspired colors – Illusion Sunset, Aurora Green, Aurora White and Aurora Gray – with more colors such as Aurora Silver, New Black and others coming soon. Illusion Sunset is particularly unique in that it is the first phone from LG to utilize a customized optical pattern repeated in intervals of less than one micron, or one-hundredth the width of a human hair. This pattern is covered in a special film created with nano-stacked lamination technology to reflect and refract light for a shimmering effect.

“We think today’s smartphone customers want and deserve more than cookie-cutter designs and tried-and-true features,” said Johan Chung, executive vice president of overseas sales and marketing at the LG Mobile Communications Company. “In LG VELVET, we’ve created a differentiated smartphone with a design that can’t be confused for anything else and features with unique propositions that provide considerable value. We’re confident in the message LG VELVET communicates and believe that there are customers out there who agree it’s time for a change in the way smartphones are developed and marketed.”

LG’S IMMENSE LED DIGITAL SIGNAGE PROJECT IS TURNING HEADS IN BUSY GANGNAM

LG’s customized high-definition LED digital signage display in Seoul’s busy Gangnam district

Whether at home, in a shopping mall or out on the street, big screens always attract a lot of attention. A prime example of this comes from LG Electronics’ Business Solutions Company, which recently installed its new extra-large, high-definition LED digital signage on one of Seoul’s most bustling streets in Gangnam.

A high view looking straight down Gangnam district’s iconic Teheran-ro street

Running through the center of the iconic district, Teheran-ro (“ro” meaning “street” in Korean) is often referred to as the local version of Times Square due to the abundance of state-of-the-art screens displaying advertisements of every brand imaginable. Designated as a free outdoor advertisement zone by the government, the street acts as something of a public arena where major entertainment houses, clothing brands and corporations vie for the attention of the estimated 100,000 pedestrians who traverse its sidewalks every day of the week.

LG’s eye-catching LED digital signage solution is hard to miss. Two strikingly vibrant 10,000 nit displays – 21.8 meters tall by 12 meters wide – are embedded in a structure that measures an imposing 26 meters in height. The custom-built dual-sided display featuring pixels only 8.3mm apart is located in front of the one of the most well-known landmarks on Teheran-ro, the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas Hotel.

LG’s customized sign under construction

LG’s customized sign is a freestanding double-sided billboard, a rarity even in a city as fast to adopt new technology as Seoul. LG oversaw the entire project from start to finish, including the design and construction of the entire structure. And consistent with LG’s many other display products such as TVs, monitors and laptops, LG’s Gangnam LED digital signage features  extremely small bezels so that passersbys see only the stunning images displayed on the screen.

A high view of LG’s commercial signage on display in the heart of Gangnam

With the company’s outstanding display technology in the heart of famous Gangnam, LG’s immense commercial signage project is definitely hard to miss and hard to take one’s eyes off of.

COOK FAST, EAT WELL

The banner of the Micro Sobrevivencia YouTube channel

Like many trends that were once popular, cooking at home is making a big resurgence worldwide, but with today’s busy lifestyles, spending hours preparing meals is beyond the reach of many. Although LG offers advanced microwave ovens that make it quick and easy to prepare delicious and healthy dishes, the fact is that many consumers think a microwave is only to heat food, not to cook with.

Filipe Nascimento, the star and founder of Micro Sobrevivência, smiles for the camera in his kitchen

To educate and demonstrate that microwaves can do far more than just reheat or defrost food, LG Brazil teamed up with Micro Sobrevivência, a YouTube channel dedicated entirely to microwave cooking, LG Brazil produced a series of videos called “Eat well, eat at home,” created to teach people how to cook tasty, high-quality food in their own kitchens using just a microwave.

Filipe Nascimento poses with the LG EasyClean microwave oven

In each episode, chef Filipe Nascimento, the star and founder of Micro Sobrevivência, uses the LG EasyClean microwave oven as he takes viewers through a different recipe – each one made, incidentally, with ingredients kept perfectly fresh in his LG top-freezer refrigerator.

A close-up of the shrimp Paella being prepared

For this year’s Easter celebrations, Nascimento shared two mouth-watering recipes. First, a main course consisting of the simple yet scrumptious pairing of fish and fresh vegetables, and for dessert, a chocolate Easter egg featuring paçoca, a popular peanut candy from Brazil. Then, for Mother’s Day, the chef cooked up his own personal take on Paella – a rice-based dish originating from Spain’s Valencia province – in only 20 minutes.

Enabling viewers to recreate a fine-dining experience at home, LG Brazil and chef Nascimento selected a restaurant-quality dish combining fettuccine and shrimp. After a little prep and just 15 minutes in the LG EasyClean microwave – the ultra-fast cooking time made possible by the Quartz Grill – the food was cooked to perfection and ready to be enjoyed.

To mark National Coffee Day in Brazil (May 24), Filipe Nascimento revealed how to effortlessly fashion a dessert that is best enjoyed with a good cup (or two) of coffee, arguably Brazil’s national drink. Requiring only a little mixing, five minutes in LG’s microwave (compared to 90 minutes in a conventional oven) and then a few hours to chill in the fridge, the delectable cappuccino pudding is a yummy treat when eaten by itself, but tastes even better when complemented by a fresh brew made with freshly-ground beans.

A hamburger recipe listing every ingredient needed for the cook-along video

For the last video in the series, LG Brazil and Micro Sobrevivência celebrated World Burger Day with some easy, microwave-friendly burger recipes that are fun for parents and kids to make together.

Filipe Nascimento smiles and gives a thumbs up with the burger he just made

With the help of Filipe Nascimento, LG Brazil demonstrated the incredible culinary possibilities that can be quickly cooked up right in one’s home, no matter how busy one’s schedule. All that’s needed is 15-20 minutes to spare, the right ingredients and an efficient, reliable kitchen companion like the LG EasyClean microwave oven. And with less time preparing, there’s more time for savoring the food, the company and a life made easier.

Bom apetite!

HOME APPLIANCE MANAGEMENT IN A TIME OF SOCIAL DISTANCING

Poster for the LG Self-Service Guide

Most people would agree that going to the dentist ranks as one of their least favorite experiences. Having to deal with customer service wouldn’t be too far behind. Customer service centers are always: 1) too far away, 2) keep inconvenient hours or 3) are always busy. Or all three. And for large household appliances that won’t fit in the trunk of a car, it’s a whole different level of frustration.

A woman taking a call at her computer while wearing a headset

Hearing the angst of millions, many companies have migrated their customer service operations to online channels in an effort to provide around-the-clock support without the need to keep a physical service center open 24 hours. Via chatbots or instructional videos on companies’ social media channels or websites, customers can get most of the answers they need without ever waiting in line or being put on hold.

LG is no exception and over the years it has developed and deployed a large library of online content across multiple platforms for its customers to access and understand. LG’s US customer support channel on YouTube alone is host to over 300 videos that cover diverse topics such as cleaning a dehumidifier to the proper way to load a dishwasher.

The front page of LG USA Customer Support’s YouTube channel

Do it yourself videos have been popular around the world for some time now, offering easy-to-follow tutorials and step-by-step guides on almost every topic imaginable. To help users get the most out of their LG products, LG offers a wealth of DIY content on its YouTube channels, with instructions covering various topics from how to change the hinge position of a dryer door to registering an LG Magic Remote.

A screenshot of the walkthrough that shows how to register and de-register the LG Magic Remote Control

And because there are many customers who prefer an instructional video to flipping through a thick product manual, LG doesn’t limit its online content to just repairs and maintenance. For example, to help users quickly learn the basic features of its over-the-range microwave oven, LG covers in this two-minute video what would normally take an entire chapter in the owner’s manual.

A screenshot of the walkthrough that shows off the LG microwave oven and its features that help with the cooking

LG also offers a number of chat services in over 40 countries in 30 languages. Whether the interface of choice is Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp or another popular messenger app, customers can connect easily with a trained service professional to identify and resolve an issue or receive answers to questions about a specific product feature or function.

In Colombia, where onsite installation service is currently unavailable due to social distancing, LG is providing remote assistance through its LG Telepresence service. Over a video call, technicians working from home can talk customers through the installation of a new LG washer or refrigerator. The service has proven to be very popular and highly effective, with many customers commenting at the ease of the DIY installation.

The new functionality of LG’s Customer Service app

In Brazil, LG has added new functionality to its customer service app for smartphones, enabling customers to see a list of all the service centers near their location, browse online products manuals or connect with a call center agent to book a service visit.

LG’s newly launched AI-based customer service, Proactive Customer Care

And just last year, LG launched Proactive Customer Care, an AI-based customer service solution that helps to prevent many issues from occurring in the first place. Currently available in key markets of North America and Europe, the service alerts users if the appliance is functioning unusually, offering suggestions for maintaining optimal performance and extending the product’s operational lifespan. Proactive Customer Care communicates with users via the LG ThinQ™ app, which connects seamlessly with the company’s compatible appliances.

By leveraging today’s most popular tools and technologies, LG is making it easier than ever for its customers to get the answers they need, when they need them. And during a pandemic, getting things done without having to leave the comfort and safety of one’s home is a very good thing.

SUPPORTING LOCAL HEROES ON THE FRONT LINE

A family of four watch TV together with the LG logo overlapping

While the current global health crisis has brought much of the world’s trade and commerce to a standstill, it has also had a very serious impact on some of society’s more vulnerable groups, leaving them faced with a daily struggle to get by. Hospitals are under immense strain as they seek to tend to the needy under the most challenging of circumstances. When the pandemic struck, local LG teams in Spain, India and Thailand sprang into action to support local NGOs and frontline workers to get the appropriate assistance to where it was needed most.

In Spain, doctors and nurses working hard at Madrid’s hospitals to help those that have fallen ill recognized a problem: most elderly patients affected by the virus had no means of connecting with their families. Just 48 hours after the healthcare workers put out a call for help, LG Spain responded, delivering 500 disinfected, fully-charged and call-ready LG smartphones to the city’s hospitals, enabling many thankful patients to talk with their children, grandchildren and friends for the first time in weeks.

LG Spain also outfitted an emergency mobile hospital – established by the Ministry of Health to help cope with the high number of cases in Madrid – with several LG OLED TVs so those isolated there could keep up with the news and updates from government health officials.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation, an Indian NGO, providing food for those in need

In India, due to the national lockdown, a large number of migrant laborers and daily-wage workers have been forced to survive without their regular employment to sustain them. Teaming up with Akshaya Patra Foundation, a prominent Indian NGO, LG India has been helping to get them the nutritious meals they are currently unable to afford. To date, LG has served over one million meals throughout the country.

LG has also donated 32,050 kilograms of dry rations to a community kitchen located near the company’s Greater Noida manufacturing plant, helping to feed many local families who are attempting to cope with the loss of their livelihoods.

In Spain, India, Thailand, and in many other countries around the world, LG is doing what it can to give back to the community it serves. Whether it’s feeding the hungry, connecting children to parents or supporting the medical workers who put themselves in harm’s way every day, LG is proud to do its small part for the global community to illustrate what it has always done – put people first.

A Home That Takes Care of Your Life and Nature

The poster of the UN’s World Environment Day

In 1974, even before climate change was a thing, the United Nations designated June 5 World Environment Day. With “biodiversity” as its 2020 theme, the UN is stressing the importance of acting now as more and more plants and animals make the growing endangered species list. Average consumers can help the UN in its mission to boost worldwide awareness and inspire powerful action to protect our one and only planet by reducing household waste and energy usage.

Less Food Waste Through Better Food Preservation

A pile of wasted food

An overwhelming 70 percent of food waste generated worldwide each year comes directly from our homes. This includes old food, leftovers and partially eaten food. Two-thirds of food waste is food that has been allowed to go bad, a huge problem as landfill food waste generates methane gas, one of the catalysts of climate change.

The overall shot of LG NatureFRESH™ technology with LinearCooling™ in a modern kitchen

By far the easiest and best method for slowing food spoilage is through effective refrigeration. To keep ingredients fresher longer, a refrigerator must be able to maintain a constant internal temperature and circulate perfectly chilled air evenly. LG NatureFRESH™ technology with LinearCooling™ keeps temperature fluctuation to within ±0.5°C degrees1 while DoorCooling+™ enables even cooling of items in the door compartments. By minimizing cold air from spilling out, LG’s advanced kitchen appliances provide unparalleled storage space for your next nutritious meal.

A concept image showing the technology working inside one of LG’s refrigerators

A refrigerator’s job isn’t an easy one. Not only must it keep food fresh, it has to do so while running 24/7 and using as little electricity as possible. Luckily there are LG refrigerators with Inverter Linear Compressor that use 32 percent less energy compared to conventional compressors.2 Over the life of the refrigerator, this could mean hundreds of dollars saved in your electricity bill, not to mention the smaller carbon footprint.

Help the Planet, Wear Clothes Longer

The poster of LG’s AI DD™ washing machine with artificial intelligence

The easiest way to limit the amount of clothes thrown out is to wear them longer, which requires that they’re in good enough shape to remain in your wardrobe. LG’s AI DD™ washing machine with artificial intelligence can help extend the life of your clothes by identifying the softness of the fabrics in the laundry load and using big data to set the correct wash cycle to reduce fabric damage by up to 18 percent.3 Less damage means garments last longer, which is good news for our planet.

Cool and Fresh Air with Greener Technology

With the arrival of summer in the northern hemisphere and most of the world’s population spending more time at home, the use of residential air conditioners will likely increase over the next several months. In fact, air conditioning is expected to represent 12.7 percent of electricity demand by the middle of the century, up from 9 percent last year.5

A concept image showing air burst from an LG DUALCOOL air conditioner with Dual Inverter Compressor™

LG believes energy efficiency of its air conditioners is the most important feature. LG DUALCOOL air conditioners with Dual Inverter Compressor™ delivers powerful cooling performance while requiring less energy. This innovative technology saves up to 70 percent less electricity while providing up to 40 percent faster cooling than other non-inverter residential air conditioners.6

LG AUSTRALIA HELPS SUPERCAR RACER COMPETE IN A VIRTUAL WORLD

A complete view from the back of someone using the immersive racing simulator

As the impact of the coronavirus continues to be felt around the world, both people and organizations alike are having to adapt and transform traditional ways of operating to exist in a virtual world. Even sporting events have gone virtual, with athletes playing in empty stadiums to an online audience. Until now, athletes have not been able to practice social distancing while playing due to the fact that sports by their very nature, are a form of physical activity where players compete with one another.

But this year’s BP Supercars All Stars Eseries is about to change the definition of competitive sports during a pandemic.

Rick Kelly, a supercar racer, experiencing his beloved sport online with his homemade racing simulator

The season is currently in a 10-week online simulation, with Supercar drivers competing in the races from their respective homes. Asking an athlete to relearn his sport online is no easy feat, especially for supercar drivers who may have little to no experience with racing simulation. Supercar racing is the premier motorsport category in Australasia and one of Australia’s biggest and most exhilarating sports.

Rick Kelly, team principal, co-owner and driver for the Kelly Racing organization especially felt the challenges adjusting to this new way of racing off-track. But with the support of LG Electronics Australia, the proud official partner of Kelly Racing Supercars team for the 2020 season, Rick had an enthusiastic supporter to help create an enhanced simulation experience at home.

Rick Kelly and his son in the act of building their at-home racing simulator

LG provided Kelly Racing with leading home entertainment technology, including three 55-inch C9 LG OLED televisions specially calibrated for racing simulations. Using the OLED televisions, Rick was able to build a simulator that allowed him to create a familiar driving experience to being in a supercar, inclusive of front and side views of the track. And what’s more, LG OLED technology allows fast-paced track action to be seen in outstanding detail, with a 100Hz refresh rate and incredibly low input lag.

Rick Kelly poses and in front of his new racing simulator as his son uses it behind him

LG sat down with Rick, the 2006 V8 Supercar champion and dual Bathurst winner and now 2020 LG Electronics Australia ambassador, to ask how he is adapting to this new way of racing and his experience as a virtual supercar driver.

LG: Did you ever think you would be racing in a virtual Supercars season?

RK: Definitely not! Virtual racing is not something I have really had much interest in and haven’t dedicated any time to it up until the last three months – so I’ve had to learn on my feet!

LG: What has been the hardest part of adjusting to the at-home simulation style of racing?

RK: Learning how to use a simulator. It might not seem that complex initially, but it is definitely harder than it looks, especially trying to figure out how to use the simulation software and then choosing the right hardware to complement it. There are so many different elements to get the hang of before you even start racing, and overall the experience of virtual racing is unlike anything I’ve done before.

A man races online with the immersive virtual supercar simulator

LG: How does the use of the three LG OLED TV screens add value to the simulation experience?

RK: When I first started, I was using one small screen whilst the LG OLED TVs screens were en route to my house. At this stage, the simulation was very basic, as you would expect from a standard one-screen set-up. Once we added the three LG OLED screens, it completely changed the simulation experience. Firstly, it increased my competitiveness because the reaction time was instant and with almost no lag-time. Secondly, the best part was that I felt completely immersed in the simulation, making virtual racing feel as real as it could ever be.

Racing driver Rick Kelly being interviewed in front of his green Ford Mustang GT

LG: Do you think virtual racing will be something you will continue taking part in?

RK: The Eseries has been a challenge for me, as I am not used to being so far out of my comfort zone when I am racing, and because of that I haven’t been as competitive as usual. There are a lot of eyes on the iRacing series, including the fans and the team partners, which can be extremely daunting, especially with my lack of experience in simulation racing. However, having the chance to learn this skill has been a bit of fun and to continue racing other cars through this period has become enjoyable, so I might try my hand at it for fun going forward.

LG: Has this experience changed your perception of esports? What is your favourite part about becoming a virtual supercar driver, do you feel that this experience will help you improve your skills once you are back on the track?

RK: iRacing is certainly more complex than I had expected it to be, and I’m grateful to have had the experience to learn and improve my skills in this area. My favourite part of the Eseries has been building the simulators and sharing that experience with the fan base, who are really enjoying this new style of competing. Driving the simulator is very different from driving a race car, however the simulation would definitely be useful for practicing different techniques before trying them on the track, as well as learning how to navigate new tracks if we are faced with that in the future.

Andre Heimgartner of the Kelly Racing Team explains how LG OLED TV model 55CX helps him become a better racer during virtual racing contests

LG has since set up the LG OLED simulation experience for Kelly Racing teammate, Andre Heimgartner.

“I never thought I would be racing in a virtual supercars season, it has definitely been a big change for us and we have had a lot to learn,” Heimgartner said. “The LG OLED screens have made the experience easier, as the low input lag, vivid colors and high frame rate technology have really helped me be precise and consistent when racing.”

LG Electronics Australia’s commitment to innovation and leading TV technology has meant that the team can take their skills and use them in the most realistic at-home simulation setting.

PERFECT FOR BOTH LEAN-BACK VIEWING AND GAMING, LG’S 48-INCH OLED TV ROLLS OUT IN KEY MARKETS

Finest 4K Picture Quality Available in More Screen Sizes for Easier Adoption

SEOUL, May 27, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG) brings the unparalleled picture quality of LG OLED TV to an all-new screen size – 48-inches – with a focus on customers who want a mid-size TV that best fits their living space, are looking for a second TV without compromising picture quality or need a quality display for serious gaming. With the 4K Ultra HD OLED 48CX, LG is addressing the growing demand for the ultimate viewing experience in more screen sizes by expanding its OLED lineup to the mid-size TV market, complementing its already diverse lineup of 55, 65, 77 and 88-inch models.

The unbeatable picture quality of LG OLED display technology, boasting perfect blacks and infinite contrast thanks to self-illuminating pixels, is at the heart of the new 48-inch OLED TV. The set reproduces even more vivid and sharper 4K picture quality due to significantly higher pixel density of 8 million pixels on a more compact screen, density comparable with that of a 96-inch 8K TV. Delivering 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution on a 48-inch OLED screen offers next-level viewing experience to the mid-size TV category for the first time.

LG OLED 48CX builds on the legacy established by LG’s OLED TVs over the past decade and is a great choice for serious gamers as it pairs superior picture quality with outstanding gaming features. The first TVs in the industry to be NVIDIA G-SYNC® Compatible means that graphics are rendered perfectly, increasing players’ sense of immersion by adapting the TV’s refresh rate to the frame rate of the connected hardware. LG’s self-emissive OLED technology employs the precision of individual pixel control to produce exceptional picture quality, low input lag and ultra-fast response time, for an immersive gaming experience without flicker or stuttering common to most displays.

What’s more, LG’s 48-inch CX OLED TV supports a variety of popular HDR formats such as dynamic HDR10 and Dolby Vision at up to 120 frames per second for 4K UHD content, taking advantage of advanced HDMI specifications such as auto low latency mode (ALLM), enhanced audio return channel (eARC) and variable refresh rate (VRR). LG’s 2020 OLED TVs support HDMI VRR, making them compatible with a wide variety of gaming devices such as graphics cards and consoles.

On top of delivering jaw-dropping graphics thanks to unparalleled variable refresh rate and ultra-fast response time, LG 48-inch CX OLED TV and all other 2020 LG OLED TVs feature HDR Gaming Interest Group’s (HGiG) HDR gaming profile. This means that gamers can enjoy high quality graphics when playing HDR games via consoles on their LG TVs.

To heighten gamers’ sense of immersion, the LG OLED 48CX also incorporates support for Dolby Atmos and LG’s deep learning-based AI Acoustic Tuning, which understands the acoustic environment and adjusts the sound for greater accuracy. The TV is also BT Surround ready, enabling two LG Bluetooth speakers to be connected simultaneously, up-mixing 2.0 channel sound to virtual 4.0 surround sound for more immersion in favorite games.

“LG is again pushing the innovation envelope by bringing the ultimate picture to a TV screen size that is much more approachable,” said Park Hyoung-sei, president of the LG Home Entertainment Company. “Now even more consumers will be able to experience the superior performance of LG OLED TVs, considered to be the most advanced gaming TV on the market today.”

Sales of the anticipated LG OLED 48CX kicks off in key European and Asian markets in June, with North America and other target countries to follow.

An adorable baby stares at a laptop monitor as the LG PuriCare Mini Air Purifier works in the foreground.

With more people working from home these days, maintaining a clean – and safer – home can be a big chore. The new normal of having every family member home 24/7 makes it all the more important to keep the home environment clean.  Here are some ways LG home appliances can help you keep your sanity by doing much of the heavy lifting so you have more free time to enjoy each other’s company or assist the kids with their schoolwork.

More people at home means there’s more opportunity for dust and dirt to collect on floors. The LG CordZeroThinQ R9 robotic vacuum makes easy work of this chore without you having to break a sweat. Equipped with deep learning technology and two sensors (including a 3D View sensor that can see 160 degrees at once), the robot cleaner accurately categorizes obstacles and rooms by type, cleaning and navigating its way around the house without your assistance.

Using a smartphone, the LG ThinQ™ app allows you to select which rooms to clean from any location then sit back while LG CordZeroThinQ R9 goes about its business of creating a healthier and fresher home. A 5-Step Filtration System filters out on average 99.99 percent of particulates 0.5-4.2㎛ in size1, helping to reduce the presence of dust mites, cat dander, pollen and fungi.2

It goes without saying that fresh, healthy air makes everyone feel better. Regular vacuuming and dusting helps but that often isn’t enough. LG PuriCare™ 360 Air Purifier with its unique 360-degree design distributes filtered air up throughout the home to help everyone in the family breathe easier. When required, the PuriCare’s Clean Booster can be deployed to push air out up to 7.5 meters as it rotates left and right to direct the air to every part of the house.

LG to Further Diversify TV Production for a More Efficient, Global Footprint

Two Lines from Gumi, Korea to be Relocated to
New Asia Hub Indonesia, Increasing Capacity by 50 Percent

LG’s facility in Indonesia with some laborers working in the assembly line.

SEOUL, May 20, 2020 — At a time when many other manufacturers are cutting back, LG Electronics (LG) is expanding its TV business with an eye on further diversifying its production footprint and stepping up capacity. The key component of this strategy will be LG’s Cibitung facility in Indonesia which will become the company’s new regional hub, taking over two of the six production lines currently running at in Gumi, South Korea. The move is expected to boost the efficiency of LG’s TV manufacturing across the globe, with Gumi maintaining its status as the control tower and taking on more work for LG’s other growing businesses.

The move is part of a larger picture to realign LG’s production strategy to be more closely aligned with shifting demand. Increasing capacity at the Indonesian site will allow LG to better supply consumers in Asia and Australia. The greater European market will continue to be supplied by the Mlawa plant in Poland while Reynosa and Mexicali in Mexico will be the primary source of TVs for LG in North America.

Established in 1995, the Cibitung facility will be upgraded with advanced automation across all production processes including assembly, quality inspection and product packaging to produce TVs, monitors and digital signage products. With the expansion and upgrade, LG Cibitung will increase its annual capacity by up to 50 percent.

LG Gumi’s role as the control center for LG’s TV and related display businesses worldwide will become even more important as it focuses on the manufacture of high-tech displays such as LG’s ultra-premium TVs and medical monitors. Gumi will be the center of research and the testing ground for more efficient manufacturing processes.

Your New Favorite Hangout is Right Here at Home

A family ‘cheers’ as they eat around the dinner table under dim lightingPhoto Credit: https://bit.ly/2XQ49w9

Heading to a local watering hole with coworkers or good friends after work may have been common practice in normal times, but these are not normal times.

But with every cloud there is a silver lining. Current circumstances provide the perfect opportunity to hone your cocktail-making skills and enjoy a relaxing drink at home with family or roommates. In addition to mastering the art of mixology, why not up your cooking game with some delicious, easy-to-prepare food pairings as well? The prices are a lot friendlier too.

Here are three important steps that can help you turn your home into your favorite hangout, with assistance from LG’s first-class home appliances.

An array of LG appliances, including LG InstaView™ with Craft Ice™, fitted into a beautiful modern kitchen

Step 1: Get creative with your drinks

The right elements mixed in the right proportions are key to any good cocktail or whiskey. A professional bartender knows that presentation is also a part of the puzzle, and for that, they have “fancy ice” to catch the eye and spur conversation. LG InstaView™ with Craft Ice™ refrigerator brings the fancy home, taking your cocktail-hour creations next-level with large, crystal-clear spheres of ice.

A woman takes an ice ball from the LG refrigerator’s Craft Ice Maker to chill her drink

Measuring two inches in diameter and melting more slowly than the unexciting ice cubes produced by most fridges, Craft Ice is not only gaze-worthy, it preserves the delicious flavors and optimal temperature of your artfully made drinks for longer. A classic mix, vodka tonic is instantly elevated with a few balls of Craft Ice and, of course, a slice of lemon or lime. Likewise, LG’s round ice is ideal for a White Russian, allowing you to sip at a leisurely pace without worrying about the creamy texture of the Kahlua and milk going watery. The combinations and fun are practically endless. So, get mixing and don’t forget the Craft Ice!

A tray of cookies is being taken from the LG Oven, with baking made easy via its LG ProBake Convection®

Step 2: Make memorable meals to match your favorite drinks

A great drink is always made better when served with a dish that complements its unique taste and aroma. While you may not have a trained chef in the house, the LG ProBake Convection® oven can help you to produce restaurant-quality meals in your own kitchen. Whether its roast chicken or buffalo wings, the oven quickly and thoroughly cooks everything to perfection, using LG’s True Convection technology to deliver dishes that are crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside.

And with the convenience of LG ThinQ™, get suggestions on a range of suitable meal pairings for your beverage of choice. Not only does LG’s AI platform provide a wealth of recipes to choose from, ThinQ can even preheat the oven to the right temperature and allow you to check on meal progress via smartphone. And when you’re done, LG’s EasyClean® technology employs steam to get the oven clean in a mere 10 minutes, giving you and your loved ones more time to relax and enjoy one another’s company.

Step 3: Relax and don’t worry about the dishes

After dinner and drinks at home comes the inevitable cleanup, a thankless job if there ever was one. With the LG QuadWash™ Steam Dishwasher, cleanup is a breeze. Equipped with the company’s proprietary TrueSteam™ technology, the dishwasher removes stains and food debris with ease, delivering a thorough yet gently cleansing that ensures spotless dishes and gleaming glassware every time. It also boasts nine different cycles, the highly-adjustable EasyRack™ Plus system – which can easily accommodate all kinds of dishes, even long-stem wine glasses – and can be controlled and monitored with the intuitive LG ThinQ app.

With the right tools for the job, there’s no reason you can’t make home your new favorite hangout. With classy cocktails, delectable dishes, and pain-free cleanup, the good times can be safely enjoyed without setting foot outside your front door.

LG NANOCELL TV, YOUR NEW EXERCISE PARTNER

The poster of LG NanoCell and SWEATers’ Indoor Cycle Challenge

Keeping fit has always been challenging but even more so during these days of social distancing. With gyms and parks closed world over, it’s tougher now more than ever to muster the motivation to stick to a cardio or high-intensity interval training (HIIT) regimen, let alone go out for a quick spin on the bike.

To encourage people to stay active during these unprecedented times, LG Turkey came up with an idea that was not only fun but also gave individuals the motivation to participate. After all, who wouldn’t want to win a brand-new 55-inch LG NanoCell TV? Held over two weeks, the LG NanoCell Indoor Cycle Challenge was an interactive event that provided participants with the opportunity to get some exercise and have fun competing against others for bragging rights and of course, that new TV.

A woman participates in the LG Indoor Cycle Challenge by riding her bike in front of her living room LG NanoCell TV

In addition to helping Turkish people from all over the country connect and get fit, the event also gave LG an opportunity to communicate the many ways that LG NanoCell TVs could play an important role in customers’ indoor lives. Boasting features such as Smart Screen Share, Apple AirPlay 2, AI-powered voice control, the Magic Remote and the intuitive webOS interface, the NanoCell lineup makes it easy to mirror exercise apps from mobile devices to big screen and access the extensive range of workout videos available online.

LG NanoCell in Partnership with SWEATers, Turkey’s popular sporting community

For the LG NanoCell Indoor Cycle Challenge, LG partnered with SWEATers, a local online platform popular with Turkey’s sporting community. The only equipment required to participate was a regular bicycle and a smart trainer (available at most sporting goods stores) to turn the bike into a stationary one that could connect to various training apps. Within two weeks, competitors were required to complete a total of 10 45-minute long training sessions while averaging a speed of 29 kilometers per hour. Smartphone apps such as Zwift, Rouvy and TacX enabled riders to “virtually” traverse some of the world’s most scenic routes. When wirelessly connected to a big-screen TV like LG NanoCell TV, these virtual rides are made all the more immersive, and working out indoors all the more enjoyable.

The 400-plus entrants shared images, videos, and stories of their efforts on Instagram using the hashtag #lifeisgoodwhenyousweat. The wealth of content generated by the event ultimately led to significant buzz across multiple platforms and, importantly, served as a call to action for consumers across Turkey to stay active at home.

Three male participants of the LG Nanocell / SWEATers Indoor Cycle Challenge hold nothing back as they ride for first place at home

The winner of the LG NanoCell Indoor Cycle Challenge and owner of a brand-new TV, Kubilay Dokumcu, found the event very motivating, noting, “I wanted to stay active at home and LG’s challenge gave me a great reason to get off the couch and get pedaling. I loved the competition aspect of it, but I think I love my 55-inch LG NanoCell TV even more!”

With LG NanoCell TV, consumers have a reliable exercise partner at hand to help them stay motivated and active at home. Whether it’s yoga, aerobics, fast-paced dumbbell routines or pilates-inspired movements, a TV and the living room can be a great substitute for a live instructor and the gym or studio. And when the workout is over, the convenient control options and incredible content available on LG NanoCell make it easy to sit back and find something great to watch.

LG ANNOUNCES FIRST-QUARTER 2020 FINANCIAL RESULTS

Highest First-Quarter Operating Income Margin in Company History

A picture of LG Twin Towers in the daytime

SEOUL, Apr. 29, 2020 — LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced first-quarter 2020 consolidated revenue of KRW 14.73 trillion (USD 12.45 billion) and operating profit of KRW 1.09 trillion (USD 921.47 million). Although revenue declined modestly compared with the same period last year, operating income improved 21.1 percent from the 2019 quarter making this only the second time in history when quarterly operating profit exceeded KRW 1 trillion. The 7.4 percent operating margin was the highest in LG’s history for a first quarter.

The LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company reported first-quarter revenues of KRW 5.42 trillion (USD 4.58 billion) and operating profit of KRW 753.5 billion (USD 636.8 million). Revenues were virtually unchanged from the first quarter last year, the effect of softer global demand during the pandemic offset by higher sales in Korea of steam appliances such as washers, dryers, dishwashers and the LG Styler clothing care system, reflecting consumer interest in health and hygiene. Operating profit (3.6 percent higher than the same period last year) and operating margin were the highest in LG’s history, benefitting from cost-reduction efforts and increased interest in premium products.

The LG Home Entertainment Company posted first-quarter revenues of KRW 2.97 trillion (USD 2.51 billion), a decrease of 4.8 percent from the same period last year as a result of component supply constraints and slowing global demand due to lower consumer confidence. Taking into account the reclassification of information technology products from the Home Entertainment Company to the Business Solutions Company this year, operating income of KRW 325.8 billion (USD 275.32 million) increased 31.7 percent from the same period last year as a result of operating efficiencies and expansion of premium products such as OLED TVs and NanoCell TVs. With market demand affected negatively by the pandemic, the company is adjusting the proportion of premium products, expanding online sales, optimizing resource input and streamlining asset management to improve profitability going forward.

The LG Mobile Communications Company reported first-quarter sales of KRW 998.6 billion (USD 843.9 million), narrowing its operating loss to KRW 237.8 billion (USD 200.96 million) from the previous quarter. Sales decreased nearly 34 percent from last year’s first quarter, primarily due to supply disruptions from Chinese partners. Costs were further reigned in through production and marketing efficiencies, ongoing efforts to help buffer the effect of the pandemic. The new LG Velvet 5G smartphone launch in Korea during the second quarter will mark a new direction with a different design philosophy, competitive yet value-conscious components and enhanced online sales initiatives.

The LG Vehicle Component Solutions Company recorded first-quarter revenues of KRW 1.32 trillion (USD 1.11 billion), a 2.1 percent decline from the same period last year with an operating loss of KRW 96.8 billion (USD 81.8 million) as a result of the business disruption of North American and European automakers. To minimize ongoing pandemic risk the company will accelerate its supply chain optimization efforts taking into consideration a reduction in demand from automakers and continue to improve its business structure with further cost savings in the second quarter.

The LG Business Solutions Company generated first-quarter sales of KRW 1.71 trillion (USD 1.44 billion), an increase of 3.5 percent year-on-year and 18.8 percent higher than the previous quarter thanks to increased sales of solar modules and IT products such as LG gram notebooks. Operating profit of KRW 212.2 billion (USD 179.3 million) marked 26.3 percent higher than the same period the year earlier and 159 percent higher than the previous quarter due to increased solar module sales, stable profitability from information displays and innovations in productivity. To help minimize further pandemic disruptions, the company is expanding online sales efforts for IT product to capture a greater share of the telecommuting and distance-learning markets.
