LG Presents “Life’s Good From Home” Vision for the Future of Home Living

Showcasing Next-Generation Innovations for Home and Beyond at IFA 2020

LG’s president & CTO Dr. I.P. Park introduces LG Electronics’ Life’s Good from Home vision for the future in hologram form at IFA 2020

BERLIN, Sep. 3, 2020 — At IFA 2020, LG Electronics (LG) presented a new consumer experience unlike any previous IFA show. LG CTO Dr. I.P. Park took to the stage in hologram form to talk about Life’s Good from Home, the company’s vision for the future. LG’s future vision maximizes three core home values of care, convenience and entertainment.

“These unprecedented times have made us more uncertain about the future,” remarked Dr. Park. “LG believes this presents a unique opportunity to make real change in the world by realizing a new potential for the home. As a leading lifestyle innovator, we’ve doubled-down on our commitment to develop new and improved products and services that provide a good life for consumers the world over.”

LG’s AI platform, LG ThinQ, continues to evolve and innovate to create new services, solutions and business models to lead change. “LG ThinQ is the beating heart of our life-enriching innovative experiences,” Dr. Park said when demonstrating how the updated LG ThinQ app delivers a user-centric experience that extends from customer support to purchasing supplies. Using the app, the AI-based Proactive Customer Care (PCC) can analyze and report back the operational status of appliances and even provide maintenance or repair advice.

LG has spearheaded innovation that transcends the home, investing in wide-ranging technologies as it pursues improving everyday life. LG’s CLOi line of robots can provide a safe, socially distant way to deliver services in restaurants and hospitals and since July 2020 LG CLOi ServeBots have been deployed in commercial locations throughout Korea. As a pioneer in robotics, LG has set its sights on expanding the robot ecosystem through its CLOi platform, focusing on automated driving, situation analysis, and movement control by reducing the time it takes to develop cutting edge products, a driving force for the industry’s growth. Dr. Park highlighted how CLOi 2.0 could serve as an efficient substitute for human interaction, compatible with the open source Robot Operating System (ROS) 2.

LG is also developing technology for remote healthcare management as part of its digital transformation efforts. “Through AI, we can easily and more precisely monitor the health of consumers 24/7,” said Dr. Park. “Recently in Korea we successfully administered a pilot project with Seoul National University in using AI to improve the monitoring and care of patients with chronic conditions.”

Dr. Kim Kyung-ho, executive vice president of the LG’s Business Solutions Europe, followed Dr. Park on stage to introduce LG ThinQ Home. An actual living space and complete home solution in the South Korean city of Pangyo known as Korea’s Silicon Valley, ThinQ Home is a real demonstration of LG’s Life’s Good from Home vision as the ideal future residence designed to deliver a safer, more convenient lifestyle through the company’s latest appliances and IT technologies.

In Korea, the flesh and blood Dr. Park guided the IFA audience through LG ThinQ Home and demonstrated Home Concierge, a smart mirror that allows easy and complete home control by monitoring appliances and home energy usage through a state-of-the-art energy panel. Connected to the home’s electric car charging station, the high-tech panel lets homeowners charge and monitor their electric car remotely.

In addition to its holographic media event, LG’s videos illustrate its vision for accelerating everyday innovation, one featuring a special guest appearance by K-pop star Henry Lau touring the LG ThinQ Home. This video and more can be enjoyed on the LG Global YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/GlobalLG) while LG’s virtual exhibition (http://Exhibition.LG.com) provides a vivid experience of LG’s innovative products and services at IFA 2020.

SEOUL, Sep. 2, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG) is kicking off the Explorer Project with a 30-second invitation video hinting at the first smartphone under this new lineup. Explorer Project is both an initiative and a category and will include devices that deliver distinctive and yet unexplored usability experiences, a strategy that tackles uncharted territory in the industry. Details of the Explorer Project will be officially announced September 14 at 10:00 (EDT) on LG Mobile’s official YouTube channel and Facebook page.

LG created the Explorer Project in response to the diverse usage needs of today’s smartphone customers and to deliver much-needed curiosity and excitement to the mobile sector. The initiative aims to “explore” and inject new life into untapped areas and reshape and expand the current user experience, with assistance from its trusted platform partners.

Explorer Project also marks a new direction in the alignment strategy of LG’s smartphones. The Explorer Project will focus solely on new usability that is discovered with innovative designs while LG’s new Universal Line will be the company’s lineup of competitive devices that focus on consumer lifestyles, such as LG VELVET.

LG is collaborating with industry partners Rave, Ficto, Tubi and NAVER to develop unique features that will elevate the mobile viewing experience on Explorer Project devices. Qualcomm Technologies is again contributing its industry-leading processing technology and know-how to drive the outstanding performance of LG’s differentiated lineup.

Rave gives users wherever they may be the ability to communicate and enjoy streaming content together while Ficto, which pioneered revenue sharing for mobile content, aligned the global launch of its streaming service with the Explorer Project. Tubi, the largest ad-supported free streaming service is also an early partner of the Explorer Project. South Korean search leader NAVER, which worked in close partnership with LG on the LG Dual Screen, is developing a version of its Whale browser with unique browsing features for Explorer Project devices.

“LG and platform partners feel it is vitally important to demonstrate to consumers new and differentiated user experiences in the smartphone space,” said Morris Lee, president of LG’s Mobile Communications Company. “LG has always been a pioneer in pushing the envelope of smartphone form factors, the only way to bring about much needed innovation in the mobile market.”

LG’S 8K OLED TVS TAKE PC ENTERTAINMENT TO NEW HEIGHTS WITH MOST ADVANCED GAMING CAPABILITY

Real 8K Action Powered by Powerful NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30
Series GPU Now a Reality on Ultra Large LG OLED TVs

A pair of LG 8K OLED TVs - one on a TV stand and the other mounted on the wall - offering smooth and immersive 8K gaming experiences with the LG OLED AI ThinQ, Real 8K, and NVIDIA G-Sync logos in the corners of both displays

SEOUL, Sep. 2, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG), the first TV manufacturer to commercialize 8K OLED TVs, again set an industry benchmark with the world’s first 8K TVs to support the powerful new NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 30 Series GPU.* Powered by the company’s α (Alpha) 9 Gen 3 AI processor capable of delivering 8K full bandwidth support, LG’s 8K OLED TV steps up its game to offer avid gamers across the globe the most compelling and mesmerizing gameplay on glorious displays with over 33 million self-lit pixels.

LG OLED TVs have long been considered among the most advanced gaming TVs in the world because of their self-lit pixel technology and support for the latest HDMI specifications such as Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), ultra-fast response rate and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). Because LG OLED TVs are NVIDIA G-SYNC® Compatible, LG customers have been able to enjoy their favorite games with GeForce RTX 20 Series and GTX 16 Series GPUs for a smooth, immersive gaming experience without the flicker, tearing or stuttering common to most common displays.

The α (Alpha) 9 Gen 3 AI processor in LG’s OLED and NanoCell 8K TVs take real-time ray-tracing performance to a new level and set a new standard for gaming-optimized picture and performance. With LG 8K OLED TVs able to deliver 8K content at 60 frames per second and handling staggering 48Gbps speeds, playing 8K games on LG OLED TVs and a NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 30 Series GPU has never looked so good.

“We are excited to bring GeForce RTX 30-Series GPU support to LG’s 2020 8K OLED TVs,” said Matt Wuebbling, vice president of global GeForce marketing at NVIDIA. “Gamers will be blown away by the performance on these TVs when playing the latest 8K PC games featuring the most realistic ray-tracing and cutting-edge AI features powered by the GeForce RTX 3090 GPU.”

To heighten gamers’ sense of immersion, LG 8K OLED TVs also support Dolby Atmos and LG’s deep learning-based AI Acoustic Tuning, which measures the acoustic environment and adjusts the sound for greater accuracy. The TVs are also BT Surround ready to allow two LG Bluetooth speakers to be connected simultaneously, up-mixing 2.0 channel sound to virtual 4.0 surround sound for more immersion in favorite games. And with LG ThinQ capability built-in, hands-free voice control is possible for those moments when reaching for the remote is not an option.

“The combination of LG OLED TV’s awe-inspiring picture quality and NVIDIA’s technological prowess offers next-level gaming experience in unbelievable 8K,” said S.P. Baik, vice president of the TV product planning division of LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “Following last year’s successful partnership with the world’s top gaming hardware brand, we look forward to expanding our relationship with NVIDIA.”

LG Virtual Exhibition Opens to Virtual Applause

Vision for Seamless, Evolved Home Living Showcased in Explorable Online IFA Booth

A render image of Messe Berlin’s Hall 18 at IFA 2020, featuring flags of LG’s wide-ranging lineups to be showcased at the event

SEOUL, Sep. 1, 2020 — For this year’s IFA trade show, LG Electronics (LG) is sharing its vision of an ideal home that would maximize convenience and comfort for families and individuals who are spending more time at home. Throughout the month of September, LG’s first-ever virtual exhibition is providing a compelling experience complete with real life scenarios and demonstrations of how the company is making home life more relaxing, efficient and rewarding.

Under the theme Experience LG Like Never Before, a realistic rendering of Hall 18 of Messe Berlin (down to the local time and local weather) gives visitors a chance to explore the company’s latest innovations as if they were actually in Berlin from the comfort and safety of their own homes. Upon entering LG’s online exhibit, visitors can sit back and enjoy a curated tour led by a helpful virtual guide or view a tutorial that explains how to navigate the booth using the Mini Map. Guests can click a product to try it out or view technical specifications and features.

The exhibition was designed as a fun, interactive experience where people could freely explore the exhibit as if in a game. This is possible thanks to the collaboration with Unity Technologies’ Korea office and the video game company’s Unity engine, the world’s leading platform for creating and operating interactive, real-time 3D (RT3D) content. The engine provides a comprehensive set of software solutions to create, run and monetize interactive, real-time 2D and 3D content for mobile phones, tablets, PCs, consoles, and augmented and virtual reality devices.

The highlight of the digital exhibit is OLED New Wave, an installation featuring an array of flexible screens that delivers a dramatic demonstration of LG OLED’s unrivaled picture quality and ability to assume unique form factors which captivated audiences at CES in Las Vegas earlier this year. Visitors can enjoy LG’s home entertainment offering in the Home Cinema Zone, where they can experience LG OLED TV’s outstanding picture and sound or immerse themselves in the ideal gaming environment in the Gaming Zone. The virtual Sports Bar is optimized for enjoying sporting content while the Lifestyle Zone invites visitors to enjoy the realm of possibilities made real by OLED – from Wallpaper to Gallery to Rollable.

The viewing experience in the home entertainment zones is designed to deliver the key OLED TV attributes known as 4S: sharp, swift, smooth and slim. Virtual technology allows guests to compare LG’s self-lit displays against conventional LED LCD TVs using incredibly detailed footage of a starry night. Visitors can then enjoy the rich, three-dimensional audio generated by the company’s advanced soundbars and speakers, all thanks to Meridian Audio technology.

The benefits of LG’s comprehensive range of smart home appliances and integrated services can be seen in seven dedicated zones. Organized around the three themes of Health, Hygiene, and Convenience, the aptly named Reimagine Your Life @ Home with LG zones demonstrate how a home can be made even more relieving and hygienic with technology. LG technology is shown improving the air we breathe, ensuring the hygiene of clothing and dishes, creating a more healthy, convenient culinary life and providing proactive, personalized customer service care.

In LG’s AI Connect Air Care Mode demonstration, visitors get to experience the joy and convenience of connected appliances that make spending more time at home so much easier. In the Laundry & Styling Room, visitors can see LG’s latest lineup of washing machines such as LG WashTower with AI technology to deliver optimal washing performance. Prep Station & Dining Room is where guests can simulate scanning groceries for perfectly prepared meals using LG smart appliances, while AI Connect Cooking Mode makes cooking even easier with less planning and thinking. Visitors can also experience the expanded range of Proactive Customer Care service, LG’s AI-based offering that alerts customers of potential issues before they occur, expedites repairs when they are needed and offers useful maintenance tips to keep LG appliances performing their best.

Guests are encouraged to visit http://Exhibition.LG.com to experience LG’s IFA exhibition in all its virtual glory or to download the LG Virtual Studio interactive mobile app for either Android or iOS devices.

LG’S ADVANCED REFRIGERATORS DELIVER SMARTER CULINARY LIFE AND MORE HYGIENIC FOOD MANAGEMENT

New Units Being Unveiled at IFA 2020 Keep Groceries Fresher
Even Longer Meaning Fewer Trips to the Supermarket

A kitchen with LG InstaView Door-in-Door refrigerator with UVnano showing its inside with InstaView becoming transparent

SEOUL, Aug. 28, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG) is helping consumers realize their dream kitchens with the unveiling of new refrigerator models at IFA 2020: improved InstaView™ Door-in-Door™ refrigerator with UVnano, updated LG Fridge and Freezer pair and latest InstaView ThinQ™ refrigerator. Adding to an already comprehensive list of features, these new kitchen appliance models demonstrate LG’s commitment to giving consumers more choice and helping them to live their best hygienic, culinary lives.

LG’s newest kitchen innovation uses the power of light to improve health and hygiene. LG InstaView Door-in-Door refrigerator with UVnano utilizes ultraviolet LED light technology to disinfect the water dispenser outlets once every hour (or anytime manually) to remove up to 99.99 percent of bacteria and viruses.1 Featuring LINEAR Cooling™ and DoorCooling+™, the InstaView creates optimal conditions for fresher food. LINEAR Cooling minimizes temperature fluctuations – the primary culprit of food spoilage2 – for more precise control, while DoorCooling+ evenly cools the entire refrigerator by distributing powerful airflow from strategically placed vents.3 An ice maker located in the freezer drawer produces Craft Ice™, two-inch spherical ice balls that melt slowly to keep beverages cooler longer while making drinks look great.

Updated for 2020, LG Fridge and Freezer pair are designed to fit easily into standard kitchen cabinetry for a clean, minimalist look. Their flat door design and zero-clearance hinges are ideal for installing right next to a wall for a seamless, built-in appearance. These units also feature LINEAR Cooling and DoorCooling+ as well as Metal Fresh™, a metallic finish applied to the rear interior wall to add a touch of premium elegance.

Featuring LG’s newest consumer-centric AI platform, the latest LG InstaView ThinQ refrigerator makes ingredient management, food shopping, cooking and even cleaning up a whole lot simpler. Any item placed inside or removed from the refrigerator is automatically tracked via LG’s advanced vision recognition technology. Powered by AI Connect, it can offer owners tasty meal suggestions based on the inventory of the food items, inform the water purifier how much water is required to prepare a meal, set a connected oven to the right cooking temperature based on the recipe, and even choose the optimal wash cycle for the dishwasher based on the meal. LG InstaView ThinQ also features LINEAR Cooling, DoorCooling+ and Metal Fresh.

“Our newest refrigerators deliver extended food freshness and unmatched convenience allowing consumers to enjoy the culinary life they deserve,” said Dan Song, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “We are expanding options for customers in order that they can find the best kitchen solution to match their needs and lifestyles.”

Throughout the month of September LG will host its IFA Virtual Exhibition at http://Exhibition.LG.com featuring all its latest kitchen innovations. LG Fridge and Freezer and LG InstaView Door-in-Door will be featured in the Prep Station while the InstaView ThinQ refrigerator will be exhibited in the Dining Room.

LG REVOLUTIONIZES PERSONAL CLEAN AIR WITH PURICARE™ WEARABLE AIR PURIFIER

LG Unveils the Future of Healthy Respiration at IFA Berlin

A man on a street wearing LG PuriCare wearable Air Purifier

SEOUL, Aug. 27, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG) will give new meaning to clean, personal air with the introduction PuriCare™ Wearable Air Purifier at IFA 2020. As a global leader in clean air solutions, LG has long been associated with healthy, hygienic life and this reputation has resulted in the creation of an entire new category of wearable air purifier technology to deliver a new level of portable protection. LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier will be available starting in the fourth quarter in select markets.

LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier resolves the dilemma of homemade masks being of inconsistent quality and disposal masks being in short supply. The PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier employs two H13 HEPA filters, similar to the filters used in the company’s home air purifier products.

Employing LG’s latest advancements in air purification, high-performance replaceable filters enable PuriCare Wearable to supply fresh, clean air indoor and out. With its Dual Fans and patented Respiratory Sensor, LG’s wearable air purifier allows users to take in clean, filtered air while the Respiratory Sensor detects the cycle and volume of the wearer’s breath and adjusts the dual three-speed fans accordingly. The fans automatically speed up to assist air intake and slow down to reduce resistance when exhaling to make breathing effortless.

Ergonomically designed based on extensive facial shape analysis, LG PuriCare Wearable fits snugly on the user’s face to minimize air leakage around the nose and chin. The design also makes it possible to wear the unit comfortably for hours on end. The efficient and lightweight 820mAh battery offers up to eight hours of operation in low mode and two hours on high.*

What’s more, LG’s innovative personal air solution comes with a case that helps maintain hygiene between uses. Equipped with UV-LED lights that kills harmful germs, the one-of-a-kind case can even charge the mask and sends a notification to the LG ThinQ mobile app (Android/iOS) when the filters need to be replaced for peak performance. And because every component of LG PuriCare Wearable – from the filters to the ear straps – is replaceable and recyclable, it’s an environmentally responsible solution as well.

“The PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier is an exciting addition to our growing lineup of products designed to deliver meaningful health and hygiene benefits,” said Dan Song, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “At a time when consumers are seeking ways to make life safer and more convenient, it’s important that we’re able to offer solutions that add measureable value.”

For IFA 2020, LG will present a virtual exhibition throughout the month of September featuring its latest innovations including LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier. Visit http://Exhibition.LG.com for more information.

LG WASHTOWER SETS NEW EXPECTATION FOR PERFORMANCE AND CONVENIENCE

By Combining Washing Machine, Dryer and Cutting-edge
Technologies, LG’s Latest Innovation Delivers Real Results

LG WashTower standing in a living room with a shirt on a hanger

SEOUL, Aug. 25, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG) is introducing its newest laundry solution “virtually” at IFA 2020 to an audience that is eager for a higher level of convenience when it comes to housework. A washing machine and dryer combined in a single unit with LG’s latest technologies and smart features, LG WashTowerTM offers total clothing care and ultimate user convenience. This innovative new home appliance will be available worldwide this year, with availability starting next month in North America.

Unlike competing stacked washers and dryers, LG’s WashTower is designed from the ground up as a “one body” solution. At the beginning of the wash cycle, the integrated unit indicates how long it will take to complete both washing and drying. The washer also shares information with the dryer, which automatically sets the optimal course and preheats the drum, contributing to better results and shorter overall laundry times.1

For the unique design of WashTower, LG designers went to great lengths to ensure maximum ease-of-use. Unlike a stackable washer and dryer where each appliance has its own control panel, the WashTower boasts the convenience of a single, intuitive interface. Located between the washer and dryer for easy access, the all-in-one Center Control makes it simple to manage every aspect of LG’s complete laundry solution.

With the height of LG WashTower approximately 87 millimeters lower than the average combined height of stackable units, loading and unloading the top-mounted dryer is measurably easier. And WashTower doesn’t scrimp on capacity, with a maximum load of 17 kilograms for the washer and 16 kilograms for the dryer.

Incorporating LG’s most-advanced laundry and smart technologies, LG WashTower provides customers with both outstanding performance and ease-of-use. Thanks to TurboWash™ 360° and Artificial Intelligence Direct Drive™ (AI DD™), the washer feature guarantees fast, gentle and cleaner clothes, detecting the weight and softness of clothing to calculate the best setting for every load. Its advanced AI reduces cycle times and energy usage without sacrificing effectiveness while the dryer utilizes LG’s steam technology to deliver maximum hygiene, eliminating 99.99 percent of common bacteria.2

“Through groundbreaking products like TWINWash, and now the WashTower, LG continues to demonstrate its commitment to enhancing user convenience and space efficiency in the home,” said Dan Song, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “This complete solution is the result of our continuous efforts to streamline household chores to give consumers more freedom for a better life.”

At this year’s IFA, LG will present a virtual exhibition throughout the month of September featuring all its latest innovations, such as LG WashTower in the Clothing Care Zone. An augmented reality option will help visitors envision LG products in their own homes. Visit http://Exhibition.LG.com.

Videos should show scenes from participants’ lives that best define what home and family means to them – eating together, playing together, laughing together or just enjoying life. A special AR Instagram filter created for the campaign will add more personalization to every upload.

LG will make a donation of USD 300,000 to Habitat for Humanity Korea, with plans to donate home appliances to furnish newly built homes. The appliances will be installed in new homes being built in India, Kenya and Vietnam to create safe havens for the neediest families.

“LG is always looking for ways to make life better, and we are honored to support the good work of Habitat for Humanity and to protect the well-being of the families they help with our healthy home solutions,” said Dan Song, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “Our Come Home Challenge campaign represents a real way for people to benefit from the gift of a safe, healthy home.”

LG Recognized by Architects for Innovation in Office Technology and Design

LG Business Solutions’ Versatile Commercial Displays
Singled Out for Transforming Spaces and Bringing Them to Life

LG Business Solutions' wide range of versatile and cable-less commercial displays fitted around a showroom

SEOUL, Aug. 17, 2020 — Acknowledging the impact that display technology has on architectural design, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) of California presented LG Electronics (LG) with its Architectural Technology Innovation Award for its innovation in cable-less LED, transparent display products, and commitment as an innovation partner. AIA, an organization with more than 11,000 architects and design professionals in the United States, made the announcement during a virtual ceremony celebrating the completion of a large-scale digital signage installation at its Californian headquarters.

LG collaborated with the professional organization on its headquarters upgrade project, installing cutting-edge digital signage solutions such as Ultra Stretch, Window-Facing and Transparent OLED displays. With the goal to create a space that reflected the values of the architectural profession and exemplify the future of design, LG’s digital signage solutions created an environment where architects could build dynamic and memorable experiences while reinforcing the fact that technology is a design element in its own right.

“As we embarked upon our new office project, one of the primary drivers was to create a space that showcased how design can create an environment that increases productivity of our staff and efficacy of our members while enabling organizational success,” said AIA California president Debra Gerod, FAIA. “This was only possible with a collaborative, integrated team effort, and LG’s displays were integral to making this a success.”

To accommodate the changing trends in architectural design for all types of commercial facilities, LG offers a diversified lineup of both LED and OLED products for different use scenarios. One of the advanced solutions is the LSAA series which allows for easier construction of large displays via its block-assembly design. With a single compact LED cabinet hub (600W x 337.5H x 44.9D mm), the LSAA display is capable of providing power and signal to the entire signage without additional cabling between cabinets, allowing installers to connect multiple displays while delivering up to 16:9 4K UHD resolution.

LG’s Transparent OLED display is designed to offer a unique customer experience in specialized commercial applications, particularly retail and hospitality. The versatile 55-inch class display delivers LG OLED’s superior picture quality, meaning customers will be able to view video on the screen and simultaneously see objects behind the screen. And LG Transparent LED Film, which easily attaches to existing window or glass to transform the surface magically into jaw-dropping digital signage, delivers various information effectively by attracting the attention of passersby.

To help architects and designers integrate advanced commercial display technologies into their building projects, LG offers an expansive library of Building Information Modeling (BIM) online resources. Also catering to the needs of architects and builders is the company’s “One LG” initiative, a single source not only for advanced commercial displays but also for award-winning commercial HVAC systems, solar modules and energy storage systems, smart home technologies, built-in appliances and more.

“We were excited to participate in this project because we were eager to show what technology and advanced solutions LG had to offer,” said Paik Ki-mun, senior vice president and head of the Information Display business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “The Architectural Technology Innovation Award is a testament to how digital signage can enhance and elevate a well thought out design project.”
