According to a study by Yale University’s School of Public Health, air pollution not only adversely affects people’s physical health, it also negatively affects their mental health, contributing to higher levels of depression.1 In most industrialized countries, people spend as much as 85-90 percent of their lives indoors, making it difficult to overstate the importance of having clean air in the spaces we live and work in. The bad news is that the air inside a building can be up to twice as polluted as the air outside.

High quality air purifiers can help combat airborne contaminants indoors, making it safer and easier for everyone to breathe. In Romania, a country where air quality continues to be an issue,2 LG leveraged the launch of its new LG DUALCOOL air conditioners featuring advanced air purification technologies to raise awareness of the dangers of pollution and the pressing need for cleaner air, especially in the home.

Aided by local content creators and influencers, LG Romania engaged a wide audience across multiple channels, highlighting its clean air message and its air conditioner’s ability to deliver powerful cooling in summer, effective heating in winter, and refreshingly healthy air all year round. DUALCOOL utilizes LG’s most advanced filtering and purifying technology to remove harmful particles from the air, a welcome feature given that the average household accumulates approximately 80 kilograms of dust every year.3

The LG DUALCOOL’s comprehensive air purification system uses a cutting-edge sensor to detect particulates as small as PM 1.0 and removing them by attaching negative ions which are drawn to the positively charged filter. DUALCOOL also monitors air quality in real-time, giving residents an accurate indication of the particulate level in the home.

Popular Romanian interior design website, Designist, wrote “The LG DUALCOOL air conditioner with built-in air purifier has a simple and sleek design…encapsulating the power of air conditioning and the comfort of air purification in one system.”

Popular news site Zona IT was impressed by DUALCOOL’s versatility in controlling indoor climate, writing that “it can heat effectively when the outdoor temperature is as low as -10 degrees Celsius and can also keep things cool in temperatures as high as 48 degrees Celsius.”

Leading Romanian content creators involved in the campaign generated hundreds of interactions, comments, reposts and likes, building local interest in the DUALCOOL and boosting awareness of the important global issue of pollution in the country.

TAKE THE FUN WITH YOU AT LG GRAM CARNIVAL

A sign for the LG gram Carnival stands on a table next to an LG-branded pot filled with lollipops

As the season changes from winter to spring and the weather starts to warm, outdoor events become more popular, bringing fun and excitement and a break from the winter chill. Festivals and carnivals begin rolling into town, with games, rides, food and colorful entertainment in abundance. The carnival gives kids of all ages the chance to experience something unique and magical.

A wide selection of confectionery makes up an appetizing table display

LG gram laptops were designed with portability in mind for creativity, productivity and fun on the go, delivering easy access to all kinds of entertainment and exhilarating experiences. To celebrate the launch of the LG gram laptop series in Canada, LG Electronics Canada created the LG gram Carnival to give media and influencers a unique opportunity to discover the features of one of the lightest, 17-inch laptops on the market today.

Held recently in a chic, downtown Toronto location, the LG gram Carnival showcased the svelte yet powerful laptop’s many advantages in a memorably whimsical way. Key product benefits such as ultra-light weight, durability, impressive graphics capabilities, and flexibility, were introduced through creative vignettes centered on traditional carnival games and performances.

A man weighs the LG gram on the scale placed inside its ‘More or Less’ display

Getting into the spirit of the event, media and influencers took turns estimating the weight of various laptops in an updated version of the eternally popular (and perennially frustrating) weight guessing game. LG gram products are a feat of engineering and design, providing the ease of portability without sacrificing one gram of performance. The incredible LG gram 17 model manages to squeeze a 17-inch display, 10th Generation Intel®Core™ processor, 80Wh battery and up to 24GB of memory in a package that only weighs 1,350 grams.

A hold-your-breath juggling demonstration served as compelling proof that the LG gram is lighter than ever, and sacrifices nothing in reliability, boasting a high-quality build that easily meets the U.S. military’s MIL-STD-810G standardfor durability.

The LG gram Carnival also provided an opportunity to show off the speedy performance and stunning visuals of the sleek and slender laptops. With Iris®Plus graphics onboard, the LG gram delivers crisp, clear images without flickering, blurring or stuttering. Whether you’re playing an intense, fast-paced game or editing 4K video, everything is sublimely smooth when displayed on these take-anywhere solutions.

For the event finale, to demonstrate the flexibility offered by LG gram – to do whatever you want, wherever you want – a Lollipop Lyra aerialist performed a series of mesmerizing acrobatics whilst deftly balancing one of LG’s light-as-air laptops as part of the act.

Recreating the amusing atmosphere of a Carnival as a springboard to launch the LG gram laptop series in Canada, the LG gram Carnival delighted and amazed all who attended and proved that LG gram has what it takes to meet the needs of the user who is on-the-go. The combination of power, portability and strength boost productivity and ensure an enhanced entertainment experience on the LG gram, wherever it goes.

HOME APPLIANCES THAT TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES

A shot of LG’s Air Conditioner placed behind the sofa of a modern, open-space living room

According to Britannica, a home appliance is “any of numerous and varied electric, electromechanical, or gas-powered devices introduced mainly in the 20th century to save labor and time in the household.”

By this definition, domestic appliances that require a lot of care would not be very effective appliances. There’s nothing worst than dust and grease build-up for keeping your air conditioner or oven working their best. To ensure that its home appliances maintain optimal performance and over a span of many years, LG is introducing a number of products that are smart enough to take care of themselves.

Two front views of LG Filter CleanBot

Air Conditioner with Robot Inside

Most homeowners never think about how their air conditioner works. Press a button and cold air blows. When there’s no cold air, that’s when they realize that something is wrong. That something is often a dirty filter. A filter caked with dust simply won’t be able to draw warm air out and exchange it for cooler air.

Enter LG Filter CleanBot. This robotic cleaner built into LG’s newest premium air conditioners in Korea* employs the same technology as LG’s CordZeroThinQ Robotic Vacuum R9 to keep the filter’s surface free of dust. Switching on at 56-hour intervals, the Filter CleanBot allows LG’s air conditioners to keep performing at their best while also saving users from the messy task of manual dust removal.

Safer Drinking Water with Self-sanitizing Purifier

With stories in the news of unsafe tap water, it’s no surprise water purifier sales are picking up all over. But in order to generate the fresh, hygienically-safe supply of drinking water they were designed to deliver, water purification systems need to be well maintained. LG PuriCare™ takes the worry out with a built-in UV LED light that activates automatically every hour to prevent the build-up of contaminants, cleaning and sanitizing the tap to eliminate 99.9 percent of harmful germs. Users can also activate the five-minute sanitizing process manually by pressing the Self Care button.

The Worst Chore in the World

According to this survey of Brits, cleaning an oven was named the least liked household chore, even ahead of cleaning the toilet. While many ovens today have self-cleaning functions, LG’s smart ovens take this to the next level by advising homeowners through the ThinQ app when to clean and which cleaning cycle (Self Clean or Easy Clean) will be most effective in a particular situation. What’s more, LG’s new cooktops provide helpful tips on how to remove cooking debris from its surface, while LG’s latest dishwashers offer no-fuss Machine Clean cycle to eliminate stubborn water spots and grime from the interior.

AI Customer Service for Peace of Mind

LG’s new Proactive Customer Care service is an AI-based solution that assists LG appliance owners in maintaining the health of their compatible product. The service can provide helpful tips on everything from installation to basic maintenance, expedite a technician visit if required, and alert users by smartphone if their appliance is not functioning as expected.

A girl smiles as she monitors her home appliances from a smartphone

True to its consumer-oriented vision for a better life, LG is always seeking out new and innovative ways to lessen the burden of appliance upkeep. LG understands that designing great home appliances isn’t enough – they have to be easy to care for as well so customers can focus on more enjoyable pursuits such as spending quality time with loved ones. While completely self-maintaining, self-cleaning home appliances may still be years away, LG is working to ensure that its appliances require as little thought as possible to operate and maintain.

And that’s a good thing.

LG BEGINS ROLLOUT OF 2020 TV LINEUP SPEARHEADED BY AWARD-WINNING OLED TVS

Art-Inspired OLED Models and Expanded 8K Lineup Provide
Outstanding Picture and Sound Quality for a Viewing Experience Second to None

SEOUL, Mar. 11, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG) today announced the rollout of its stellar 2020 TV lineup, led by 14 new OLED models including the art-inspired GX Gallery series, real 8K ZX models and 4K Ultra HD TVs. The undisputed world leader in OLED TVs, LG is taking the viewing and gaming experience into exciting, new territories starting this month in South Korea and the United States, to be followed by markets in Europe and other regions.

Consumers will appreciate the sophisticated designs of LG’s 2020 premium TVs and their ability to seamlessly integrate with, and elevate, any space. OLED continues to offer the best viewing experience around, the self-emissive display technology able to precisely control light at the pixel level for the deepest blacks, most realistic colors and an infinite contrast. The stunningly sleek form factors of the new TVs are as breathtaking as the picture quality they deliver, beneficiaries of LG’s unrivalled OLED technology.

Exemplifying LG’s commitment to outstanding design, the three new GX Gallery series models (55-, 65- and 77-inches) offer a uniquely minimalist aesthetic, made possible by OLED’s revolutionary panel technology which does not require a backlight. This enables the television to integrate state-of-the-art picture quality in an ultra-thin form factor – the 65-inch model only 20mm thin without the need of a separate control box. The TV mounts flush to the wall akin to a piece of art in a gallery.

Producing images of unprecedented detail and clarity, the much anticipated LG OLED ZX Real 8K models (models 88 OLED ZX and 77 OLED ZX) deliver four times the screen resolution of 4K and 16 times that of Full HD. To guarantee a real 8K experience, LG’s TVs meet and exceed the industry definition for 8K Ultra HD TVs as defined by the Consumer Technology Association, making them among the first 8K models qualified to use the CTA 8K Ultra HD logo.

LG is also rolling out all-new 4K OLED TVs for 2020 (models CX and BX in 77-, 65- and 55-inches), each delivering the outstanding picture quality that LG OLED is known for. Consumers will also have a new size to choose from when the 48-inch CX OLED TV becomes available later this year. What’s more, NanoCell TV, LG’s premium LCD TV lineup, welcomes seven Real 8K units (75- and 65-inches in Nano99, Nano97, Nano95 series, 55-inch Nano95) all carrying the CTA 8K UHD logo like their OLED counterparts.

Featured in most of LG 2020 OLED and 8K NanoCell TVs is the new α (Alpha) 9 Gen 3 AI Processor. The company’s third-generation processor builds on the capabilities of its predecessors, leveraging additional processing power and advanced deep learning algorithms to further boost picture and sound quality on the new TVs. The α9 Gen 3 heightens viewers’ sense of immersion via several new features designed to enhance movies, sports, games and other types of content.

LG’s 2020 TVs support the latest HDMI specifications including eARC and ALLM for higher-quality audio and a smooth, lag-free performance. LG’s 8K models can play native 8K content from HDMI and USB digital inputs and support a wide range of codecs including HEVC, VP9 and AV1, the codec preferred by YouTube and other major streaming platforms.* LG’s 8K TVs support 8K content streaming at 60FPS and are certified to provide 8K 60P over HDMI.

Acclaimed for its ability to accurately reproduce colors and filmmakers’ creative visions, LG OLED TV sets the standard for a true cinematic experience in the living room. The company’s latest OLED models have won the Hollywood Professional Association’s Excellence in Engineering Award and are the first TVs to deliver integrated calibration software that performs to a hardware level. And with support for the new Dolby Vision IQ and the UHD Alliance’s Filmmaker Mode™, LG OLED displays movies exactly as their creators intended. And with great visual and sound performance, the new OLED and NanoCell TVs provide easy access to high-quality content from the world’s top providers through popular apps and services such as Apple TV, Disney+ and Netflix.

The perfect choice for serious gamers, LG’s 2020 TVs pair superior picture quality with new gaming features for the most exhilarating interactive experience imaginable. As the first manufacturer to offer TVs that are officially NVIDIA G-SYNC® Compatible, LG is introducing a total of 12 new OLED models supporting this essential gaming technology. G-SYNC ensures graphics are rendered perfectly, increasing players’ sense of immersion by adapting the TV’s refresh rate to the frame rate of the connected hardware. LG’s self-emissive OLED technology employs the precision of individual pixel control to produce exceptional picture quality, low input lag and ultra-fast response time, for an immersive gaming experience without flicker or stuttering common to most displays. LG’s 2020 OLED and NanoCell TVs support HDMI VRR, making LG the only TV brand offering compatibility with a wide variety of gaming devices such as graphics cards and game consoles.

When it comes to sports, LG OLED TVs bring the atmosphere and excitement of major events into the living room like never before with its 120Hz refresh rate which makes it possible to see all the fast-paced action in perfect detail. Features such as Sports Alert let users follow their favorite teams with ease, providing real-time scores, up-to-date schedules and more across a range of professional sports, including baseball, football and soccer all the while hearing the roar of the crowd in 360-degree soundscape with two Bluetooth speakers connected simultaneously to the 2020 LG TV.

BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE ALWAYS BETTER WITH WINE (CELLAR)

The LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar Door event’s main sign

Listening to music, an afternoon spent in the company of friends and family, or a quiet evening alone with a good book or movie are all pastimes that pair nicely with a glass of wine; a drink that has delighted for thousands of years. Those who appreciate a perfectly chilled bottle of wine will appreciate the ability to uncork a bottle that has been perfectly maintained, chilled and aged.

For these oenophiles, LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar is the perfect companion.

Cellar Door

LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar is a premium solution boasting precision temperature control, timeless style and a door that swings open with a simple voice command. In advance of its April launch in the UK, LG invited local content creators and lifestyle influencers to its “Cellar Door” event to enjoy one of three immersive activities – each one paired with exclusive wine tasting sessions.

The Cellar Door event’s guests having a meal and drinking wine together in the Old Sessions House

The Old Sessions House, a beautifully restored classical building on Clerkenwell Green in London, was the meeting place for Cellar Door guests. There, the participants were introduced to a selection of fine wines curated by Corney & Barrow, a renowned wine merchant with 240 years’ experience and a long history of serving the British royal family.

Guests enjoying a 30-minute sound bath and meditation session

Rise & Wine

The first group enjoyed a luxurious morning routine consisting of a 30-minute sound bath and meditation arranged by one of London’s leading sound healers. Sound and sensory healing – the concept of achieving relaxation through a combination of sound and fragrance – has become big news in the world of wellness and has found a very receptive audience in the UK. Following the soothing session, the group was served a delicious, healthy breakfast, perfectly paired with a biodynamic, low-alcohol sparkling wine.

Note 1

High Notes

The sublime morning experience was followed by an exclusive performance by Benji B, one of the most-respected DJs in the UK and a favorite musical-collaborator of top fashion houses, including Louis Vuitton. The unmistakable sounds of Benji B were complemented by varieties and vintages hand-picked by Corney & Barrow to match the mood of each track.

Just as good music elevates mood, the LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar enhances ease-of-use with the inclusion of the Auto Lift Draw, InstaViewTM and Auto Open Door features.

The SIGNATURE Salon

To round out the day, LG brought together writer and founder of London’s foremost literary salon Damian Barr, celebrated novelist David Nicholls, and Corney & Barrow’s head buyer Rebecca Palmer, for an intimate discussion on life, literature and wine. As the conversation weaved its way through David’s widely acclaimed novel Us, guests were served with wines and canapés selected to reflect certain passages from the story, matching the personalities of the book’s central characters.

Damian Barr, London’s famous novelist, looking thrilled as he opens the LG Wine Cellar

“The Wine Cellar has appeared from the future. It does everything for you except drink the wine.” – Damian Barr

Across each of the unique Cellar Door events, the LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar showcased its ability to maintain the optimal environment for storing wine.

Note 3

But, perhaps most importantly, the LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar supports the creation of a convivial atmosphere, and that can help make the best things in life even better.

LG’s specialty gaming monitors offer advanced technologies and specialized functions, the latest delivering amazing picture quality along with quick refresh rates and minimal lag. The company’s finely-tuned monitors and OLED TVs not only bring the best out of a game’s graphics, they can also bring out the best in the player; giving them a split-second advantage to help defeat their enemies.

In January, LG saw an opportunity to prove the might of the company’s new gaming-optimized displays at one of Greece’s most-popular gaming events, Gameathlon.

Attracting over 25,000 visitors, Gameathlon was bigger and better than ever this year, the ninth running of the annual event taking place at the Tae Kwon Do Stadium in Palio Faliro. A Gold Sponsor of Gameathlon 2020, LG wowed the enthusiastic crowd on hand with two booths that embodied the theme of this year’s show: Bring the Game to Life.

The LG OLED TV with NVIDIA G-SYNC® exhibit and the LG UltraGear™ monitor showcase both highlighted a high-quality gaming experience that clearly made an impression with the show’s knowledgeable audience, which included many pro gamers and tech aficionados.

With variable refresh rate (VRR) support and a response time unmatched in the TV industry, LG OLED delivers the smoothest, most vivid action around. Widely considered the best gaming TV on the market, “seamless” was a word uttered by many at Gameathlon when describing the gameplay and visuals of the titles demonstrated on LG displays.

FIRST TO MARKET: LEADERSHIP TOWARD A MORE MOBILE WORLD

[Check out the first and second episodes of the FIRST TO MARKET series.]

The final stop on our tour of LG “firsts” the past decade brings us to the world of mobile where LG has routinely found new ways to break through technological barriers and propel the user experience forward.

A decade ago finds LG at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2011 in Barcelona making waves with the unveiling of the LG Optimus 3D. The eagerly-awaited smartphone ushered in a new era, offering consumers the world’s first full 3D experience on a mobile platform, complete with the ability to shoot, view and share 3D content without cumbersome glasses.

2011 was also the year LG pushed the envelope with the international launch of the world’s first dual-core smartphone, LG Optimus 2X. Powered by the NVIDIA® Tegra™ 2 mobile dual-core processor, the LG Optimus 2X offered key advantages over its single-core competitors, including speedier web browsing and gaming performance.

Jumping forward to 2011, LG wowed visitors to MWC that year with the first-ever demonstration of voice-to-video conversion over an LTE network. This groundbreaking tech enabled users to switch seamlessly between high-quality voice call and high-resolution video call in real time. The company also showed off a new service that made it possible to share videos while recording.

That same year, LG set the benchmark for the premium mobile market with the LG Optimus G, the first handset in the world to boast Qualcomm’s legendary Snapdragon™ S4 Pro Quad-Core processor. With the fastest processor in the industry, a polished design and an array of unique UX features, the Optimus G became an instant LG classic.

Always staying ahead of the curve, LG unveiled the LG G Flex in 2013, the first curved smartphone designed to follow the contour of the user’s face. Leveraging a flexible P-OLED display and the industry’s first curved smartphone battery, the G Flex was a genuine innovation and a worthy addition to the company’s popular G series.

2013 also saw LG reveal its Wireless Ultra High Definition (Ultra HD) Transmission technology at MWC in Barcelona. This exciting, new tech gave users the ability to display games and other content from their smartphones on an Ultra HD TV via wireless connection with minimal loss of data or lag. Automatically adjusting any content for optimal quality on the TV’s high-resolution screen, LG’s mobile innovation ensured flawless pictures and immersive fun on a grander scale.

The company’s leadership in display technology was highlighted in 2014 with the unveiling of LG G3. Packing a Quad HD display (1,440 x 2,560 pixels), LG’s most popular smartphone to date introduced the world to the sharpest picture quality yet seen on a mobile device. LG G3 also added a unique twist to the standard selfie by incorporating gestures into the process. Pressing the shutter button when taking a selfie became infinitely easier with the LG G3, which triggered a three-second shutter timer when it sensed the presence of a clenching hand in the picture frame.

In 2015, LG continued to push the envelope when it introduced the first global flagship phone with a wide angle lens. The LG V10, with its 5MP dual front cameras, could capture normal 80o selfies or 120o wide angle shots. The wide selfie lens allowed for larger groups and more background without the need of a selfie stick.

LG has associated with delivering the very best in mobile audio technology longer than any other smartphone brand. This reputation was enhanced in 2016 with LG Stylus 2, the very first smartphone to feature the DAB+ standard for digital radio broadcasting. LG Stylis 2 with DAB+ granted users access to a huge number of channels, each one offering audio clarity far beyond that of traditional FM.

In 2017, LG gave consumers the cinematic experience many had been waiting for with the announcement of LG G6 with Dolby Vision and HDR10 support. The only mobile device at the time to offer Dolby’s dynamic video format, the G6 provided movie theater-quality visuals that could be enjoyed anywhere, any time.

With its experience, breadth of expertise and technological capabilities, LG is set to continue its pioneering ways in 2020 and beyond. The company’s stellar record of product “firsts” is matched only by its ingenuity, creativity and passion for making life better with every innovation.

FIRST TO MARKET: TV AND AUDIO PRODUCTS THAT DEFY CONVENTION

In the initial installment of this series on “LG firsts,” we highlighted the company’s industry-leading home appliances. Now we turn the spotlight to the company’s pioneering achievements in display and audio technologies. From living room TVs to retail digital signs to wireless party speakers, LG has consistently demonstrated its ability to lead from the front with products that refuse to fit neatly into a particular expectation or category.

Let’s take a look at LG’s firsts in display and audio innovations over the past decade.

In 2012, LG wowed consumers with the first-ever 84-inch 4K 3D TV. Pushing eight million pixels or four times the resolution of existing Full HD TVs, the groundbreaking TV produced astonishingly clear and thrillingly real 3D images – adding a new dimension to home entertainment.

2012 saw LG announce LG TONE+™, the very first behind-the-neck Bluetooth stereo headset with Voice over LTE (VoLTE) support. With this patented design, LG was able to include convenient and intuitive controls to enable calls and listen to music without to take one’s phone out of the pocket. All this with battery life that was unmatched in the wireless headset category at the time.

A year after introducing its first OLED TV, LG ushered in a new chapter in the history of television when it became the first company in the industry to commercialize 4K OLED TV. The most advanced TV technology of its time, the 65-inch and 77-inch models delivered an unbeatable combination of lifelike colors, infinite contrast and 4K resolution all within an ergonomically curved screen.

Three models sit down on the floor and look up to the world's first LG 4K curved OLED TV products that are positioned on a display stand.

LG has also raised the bar for audio performance with unique products and specialized technologies that enhance the listening experience. TONE Studio, for example, was the first wearable audio device to deliver 3D surround sound on-the-go when it arrived in stores in 2017. LG TONE Studio was specifically designed to provide high quality, realistic 3D sound while still allowing wearers to stay safe by hearing what was going on around them.

At IFA 2018 in Berlin, LG stunned with another first: 8K OLED TV. Featuring an imposing yet incredibly slim 88-inch screen, the 33 million pixel TV showcases the superiority of OLED on a grand scale and illustrates how LG continues to pull out all the stops to ensure the most compelling viewing experience.

LG’s ever-lengthening list of industry firsts also grew recently when the company added support for NVIDIA G-SYNC® to its OLED TVs, giving gamers the big-screen experience they’ve always dreamed of. Offering blazing speed and stunning color reproduction, LG’s latest OLED models have been validated through NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible testing for their ability to ensure smooth, thoroughly immersive gaming without any distracting flickering, tearing or stuttering.

Which brings us to this year’s first – the world’s first rollable TV, thanks again to OLED technology. An unprecedented creation that redefined the television category and captured the imagination of the world, this one-of-a-kind product will roll out this year boasting a whole new level of spatial integration. Not only does the TV’s unmatched thin screen roll up on command, it delivers the same perfect, immersive picture quality that LG OLED is known for.

STATEMENT REGARDING LG ELECTRONICS’ WITHDRAWAL FROM INTEGRATED SYSTEMS EUROPE (ISE) 2020

The logo of LG Electronics

SEOUL, Feb. 6, 2020 — Following the World Health Organization’s declaration last week the coronavirus outbreak constituted a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), LG Electronics regrets that it will be withdrawing from Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2020 scheduled for Amsterdam.

LG regrets having to make this difficult decision but the safety of its employees and customers continues to be its number one priority. With the WHO recommending that individuals “promote social distancing,” LG management believes that the most responsible decision is to avoid participating in large public events until the situation stabilizes.

Related meetings and discussions will be rescheduled locally in more private settings. LG Electronics appreciates the support from its business partners and customers for their understanding.

World’s First In-Vehicle P-OLED Cockpit from LG Debuts in New 2021 Cadillac Escalade

LG’s Futuristic Integrated Display System Offers Wide Viewing Angle,
Unmatched Design Flexibility, Improved Human Machine Interface

Front view of the first-ever in-vehicle curved OLED display inside the all-new 2021 Cadillac Escalade, which utilizes LG Electronics’ P-OLED Technology

SEOUL, Feb. 6, 2020 — The all-new 2021 Cadillac Escalade debuted earlier this week featuring LG Electronics’ P-OLED technology, and marking the first-ever use of a curved OLED display in a production vehicle.

The P-OLED display is a centerpiece of the all-new design of Cadillac’s iconic SUV, and the first vehicle to feature LG’s P-OLED Digital Cockpit Solution (DCS). The 38-inch display is comprised of three separate P-OLED display panels, the largest measuring 16.9 inches diagonally. The three curved screens make up the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) for displaying basic vehicle-related information and an Integrated Central Stack (ICS) that serves as an infotainment display for audio, video and navigation content.

Escalade’s advanced system includes features such as Augmented Reality-enabled navigation and Night Vision – all powered by LG-developed software. LG’s advanced software is Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) compliant and meets the ISO’s international standard for the functional safety of road vehicles.

According to market research firm IHS Markit, the global automotive display market is expected to grow from USD 7.8 billion last year to USD 10.5 billion by 2023. The wide viewing angle, curvature and bold graphics makes the P-OLED display in a production vehicle much more intuitive for drivers. The high degree of flexibility and unmatched thinness of OLED technology is also attractive to premium auto manufacturers who are eager to introduce new innovations to their early adopter audience.

“Debuting this technology with a storied brand such as Cadillac is not only an honor, it confirms that our automotive solutions are among the best the industry has to offer,” said Kim Jin-yong, president of the LG Vehicle Component Solutions Company. “The years of knowledge and experience LG has accumulated in becoming the global leader in OLED TVs will be applied to improving the in-car experience.”
