STATEMENT REGARDING LG ELECTRONICS’ PARTICIPATION IN MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS (MWC) 2020

SEOUL, Feb. 5, 2020 — LG Electronics is closely monitoring the situation related to the novel coronavirus outbreak, which was recently declared a global emergency by the World Health Organization as the virus continues to spread outside China.

With the safety of its employees, partners and customers foremost in mind, LG has decided to withdraw from exhibiting and participating in MWC 2020 later this month in Barcelona, Spain.

This decision removes the risk of exposing hundreds of LG employees to international travel which has already become more restrictive as the virus continues to spread across borders.

In lieu of its participation in MWC, LG will be holding separate events in the near future to announce its 2020 mobile products.

LG Electronics thanks its supporters and the public for their understanding during these difficult and challenging times.

APPLE TV APP AND APPLE TV+ NOW AVAILABLE ON 2019 LG TVS IN MORE THAN 80 COUNTRIES

With the Apple TV App, LG TV Owners Can Now Enjoy Apple TV+,
Apple TV Channels and More in Stunning Dolby Vision A view of an LG TV hanging on the wall of a wide modern living room as it displays the Apple TV app.

SEOUL, Feb. 4, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG), which introduced its 2020 smart TVs with the Apple TV app in January at CES, is now launching the Apple TV app for compatible 2019 LG smart TVs in over 80 countries. Easily accessed from the LG Home Launcher, the Apple TV app gives LG TV owners the ability to subscribe to and watch Apple TV+, Apple’s new video subscription service that features popular Apple Originals such as “The Morning Show,” “See,” “Servant” and “Little America.”

With the Apple TV app, LG TV owners can also subscribe to Apple TV channels — direct subscriptions to premium video services available both online and offline, ad-free and on demand — and access their iTunes video library and buy or rent over 100,000 movies and TV shows. A quick click of the LG Magic Remote is all it takes to get started.

LG’s TVs offer users a cinematic experience with the best picture and sound on the market to match the constantly growing number of programs from top global content providers. With a wide range of titles available in Dolby Vision, the Apple TV app is an ideal match for LG’s TVs. LG was an early adopter of Dolby technology, and its latest TVs continue to support Dolby Vision, offering users the most immersive viewing experience with truly vivid colors, greater depth and stunningly realistic sound.

LG’s 2019 TVs also support Apple AirPlay 2, which allows users to share or mirror content from their iPhone, iPad or Mac directly to an LG TV. Customers can also play music on the TV and sync it with other AirPlay 2 compatible speakers anywhere in the home. Also supported is Apple HomeKit, which lets users easily and securely control their TV with the Home app on their iPhone or iPad or by voice using Siri, enabling them to power on or off, change volume, switch inputs and more.

LG TV customers can now enjoy Apple TV in addition to AirPlay 2 and HomeKit on all of LG’s 2019 OLED TVs, NanoCell TVs (series SM9X and SM8X) and later this month, the Apple TV app will roll out on select UHD TVs (series UM7X and UM6X). The Apple TV app and Apple TV+ will be available on 2020 TVs at launch and on LG’s 2018 TVs later this year via an over-the-air firmware upgrade.

“LG continues to offer the best home entertainment experience through technological innovations that support the delivery of high quality viewing and user convenience,” said Park Hyoung-sei, president of the LG Home Entertainment Company. “By bringing the Apple TV app and Apple TV+ to even more TV models, we are once again demonstrating our determination to meet consumers’ needs and add value to our products.”

COMPLETE CLOTHING CARE, THE LG WAY

The LG Styler is placed in a room between two white open wardrobes full of clothes

Frequent trips to the dry cleaners are not only expensive, but time consuming and often difficult to fit into our busy schedules. The ubiquitous doorknob or chair becomes a holding place for clothes that you want to take to get cleaned but put off until you have the time.

Fret no more because LG has created a clever solution to this common problem with the new LG Styler.

A male employee demonstrates the functions of LG Styler to visitors of LG UK's Styler launch event

Ahead of the Styler launch in the U.K., LG hosted an event to introduce the British public to this unique product. Representing a new way to care for clothes and other accessories, the Styler boasts many practical uses and thoughtful features. Content creators and influencers from all over London attended the invite-only event, held at an exclusive club, to learn more about LG’s premium wardrobe management product.

A woman puts her black smart coat inside the LG Styler at the event

Research into British consumer behavior and clothing care revealed strong interest in a product that could clean, dry and disinfect clothes. In the demonstration that followed, the Styler showed off its many capabilities beyond just refreshing clothes, such as sterilizing handbags and even children’s toys. Using powerful steam, items of various types and materials from suits and hats were cleaned, disinfected, deodorized, pressed and dried in a matter of minutes.

A woman pushes a button on the front door display panel of the LG Styler to set it to cleaning mode

The Styler fully refreshed the coat of a guest who was caught in the rain prior to the event, highlighting Gentle Dry mode and LG’s efficient Heat Pump technology. (Rain in London… who knew!?) And to showcase the innovative device’s powerful sanitizing feature, a plush toy was gently and completely refreshed in almost no time at all. “I didn’t expect such an item to have so many uses in the home,” remarked one impressed guest.

A close-up of someone pushing the Refresh button on the LG Styler’s display panel to eliminate germs and bacteria from their clothes

What’s more, with LG’s patented TrueSteam™ technology, the Styler eliminates over 99.9 percent of germs and bacteria found in clothing and toys. The one-of-a-kind appliance can effectively prolong the life of not only clothes but a whole variety of household items.

The LG Styler is positioned next to a luxury leather-upholstered chair at the UK launch event

The Styler continues LG’s tradition of discovering and fulfilling the needs of consumers through technology. As Shelby Deering from Good Housekeeping put it, the Styler is “one of those products that’ll make you wonder how you ever lived without it.”

Writing for Ideal Home, Tamara Kelly noted that, although the premium product doesn’t come cheap, it is hard to “put a price on perfectly pressed clothes with minimal effort,” concluding that “It’s time to step away from the ironing board folks.”

The LG Styler is placed inside a boutique to be displayed alongside lots of fashionable clothing, shoes and accessories

The private event allowed LG to communicate the benefits of the Styler to an educated audience that clearly saw the role such a product could play in the home. A new concept in clothing management, the Styler speaks to LG’s ceaseless innovation and ongoing ability to find ingenious ways to solve everyday problems and make life better.

LG Styler will be available in the U.K. starting this month.

(LG) today announced another record breaking sales year with revenues of KRW 62.31 trillion (USD 53.47 billion) in 2019, reflecting strong demand for premium home appliances such as LG SIGNATURE and high-growth, category-creating products. Full-year operating profits of KRW 2.44 trillion (USD 2.09 billion) were strong again in 2019 although 10 percent lower than 2018 due to increased investments in marketing and future technologies.

Fourth-quarter 2019 revenues of KRW 16.06 trillion (USD 13.65 billion) were 1.8 percent higher than the same period in 2018 and 2.3 percent higher than the previous quarter while quarterly operating income of KRW 101.8 billion (USD 86.5 million) was a sound 34.5 percent higher than the final quarter of 2018.

The LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company had a strong year, reporting record full-year 2019 revenues of KRW 21.52 trillion (USD 18.47 billion), an 11 percent increase from the previous year, and operating profit of KRW 2 trillion (USD 1.71 billion), its highest in history. Quarterly sales of KRW 4.62 trillion (USD 3.92 billion) – the highest fourth quarter in the company’s history – were nearly 7 percent above the same period the previous year due to healthy demand in North America and Europe while operating income of KRW 122.2 billion (103.86 million) increased 8.5 percent from the same period 2018.

The LG Home Entertainment Company reported full-year revenues of KRW 16.15 trillion (USD 13.86 billion), relatively unchanged from 2018 while operating income of KRW 980 billion (USD 841.17 million) declined from the previous year. Fourth-quarter 2019 sales of KRW 4.59 trillion (USD 3.90 billion) remained unchanged from the same period of 2018 and 18.7 percent higher than the previous quarter, resulting in an operating income of KRW 110 billion (USD 93.5 million) due in large part to increased marketing costs.

The LG Mobile Communications Company recorded 2019 revenues of KRW 5.97 trillion (USD 5.12 billion). Fourth-quarter sales of KRW 1.32 trillion (USD 1.12 billion) declined from the same period a year earlier due to sluggish sales of mass-tier smartphones in overseas markets. A full-year operating loss of totaled KRW 1.01 trillion (USD 866.75 million) reflected increased marketing expenses to support flagship devices. LG’s 2020 mobile business improvement strategy hinges on the introduction of new mid to premium 5G smartphones and continued cost-efficiency efforts.

The LG Vehicle Component Solutions Company reported solid full-year 2019 revenues of KRW 5.47 trillion (USD 4.69 billion), a 27 percent increase from 2018 and the highest annual sales in the company’s history. Quarterly revenues of KRW 1.36 trillion (USD 1.15 billion) were 3 percent lower than the fourth quarter of 2018 as a result of slower auto sales. Despite a 2019 operating loss of KRW 194.9 billion (USD 167.27 million), the company expects to benefit from additional cost competitiveness and enhanced profitability as the electronic vehicle market continues to expand in 2020 in response to stronger European environmental regulations.

The LG Business Solutions Company recorded 2019 revenues of KRW 2.67 trillion (USD 2.29 billion) with an operating income of KRW 246.8 billion (USD 211.82 million). First to Market: A Tradition of Innovation

To be the first to introduce something new to the world is an achievement worth celebrating.

The creation of a never-before-seen product or technology requires a spirit of innovation as well as hard work and determination, among other traits. In an industry such as consumer electronics where many global competitors vie to be first to market with new products and technologies, the ability to introduce something truly unique before anyone else is becoming more difficult. And the ability do so year after year… this is a rare and exceptional feat.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Yet that is exactly what LG does.

A five-picture collage showing LG's world’s-first technological achievements, including the first 5G smartphone, curved UHD TV, 8K OLED TV and washing machine with TwinWash technology

LG has made it a tradition to announce significant “firsts” at industry trade shows. Innovations that LG has unveiled at shows such as CES and IFA in Berlin are already finding their way into customers’ homes to make their lives better. As we enter a new decade, let’s take a look at some of the industry-first home appliances LG has introduced over the past ten years.

A front view of the LG SIGNATURE TwinWash washing machine running its Personalized Washing Cycle and Fabric & Stain Type Detection functions

Announced at CES 2020 earlier this month, LG’s AI DD washing machine represents 20 years of upgrades and refinements to the company’s pioneering Direct Drive motor and is an industry first for its ability to incorporate artificial intelligence in its operation. With AI, the washer can detect the volume and weight of a load of laundry, identifying the different fabrics comprising each load to determine the optimal wash cycle to ensure the best results.

A promotional image shows someone picking up balls of ice for their drink from LG's InstaView Door-in-Door Refrigerator with Craft Ice

Another first announced at CES 2020 is LG InstaView™ with Craft Ice™, the first-ever refrigerator to produce spherical ice. Because round ice melts slower than cubed ice, LG’s Craft Ice helps drinks keep their flavor longer and makes you the best bartender on the block.

A man holds down the tap of LG HomeBrew to pour the perfect beer

The first-of-its-kind capsule-based craft beer maker, LG HomeBrew streamlines the home-brewing process and produces delicious, thirst-quenching beer. Winner of a CES 2019 Innovation Award, the system uses an optimized fermentation algorithm and offers the effortless convenience of self-cleaning.

A man and woman take a closer look at the technology found inside the LG InstaView Door-in-Door refrigerator by opening its fridge door compartment

Another first in refrigerator technology is the InstaView Door-in-Door™ feature which was initially introduced in the LG SIGNATURE refrigerator in 2016. Knocking on the glass instantly turns the tinted outer window of the refrigerator or oven transparent, allowing users to view the interior without letting the cold or heat escape.

Two female employees demonstrate the large capacity of the main washer and the handy hidden SideKick compartment of the LG TwinWash washing machine to two attendees

In 2015, LG unveiled a disruptive new product in the washing machine category. Its front loading washer’s revolutionary TWIN Wash™ System, the first of its kind, enables two separate loads to be washed simultaneously. With a space-efficient mini washer in the pedestal, overall cycle times are reduced with fewer loads required.

A promotional image of the LG Styler with its door slightly open and lots of steam escaping from inside

LG Styler continues to be an outlier in home appliances ever since its appearance in 2011. Using TrueSteam™ in place of water to sterilize and refresh garments by eliminating wrinkles and unpleasant odors, this clothing management system continues to set the industry bar for convenience and effectiveness when it comes to caring for clothes that until now, had to be dry cleaned.

LG has made “doing it first” something of a tradition and will never cease seeking out new and better ways to make life good. Stay tuned for part two where the focus will turn to LG “firsts” in display and audio technologies.
