SEOUL, Oct. 30, 2019 — LG Electronics Inc. (LG) announced record-breaking third-quarter consolidated revenues of KRW 15.7 trillion (USD 13.15 billion) and operating profit of KRW 781.4 billion (USD 654.4 million) for the July-September period. Sales increased 1.8 percent and operating income was 4.4 percent higher compared with the same period last year, primarily due to the strong performance of the home appliance, home entertainment and business solutions business units, while losses narrowed for mobile communications in the quarter.

The LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company reported its highest third-quarter sales of KRW 5.33 trillion (USD 4.46 billion), increasing nearly 10 percent from the same period last year thanks to strong performance in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Operating income of KRW 428.9 billion (USD 359.2 million) represented a 3.8 percent increase from the third quarter last year due to a combination of improved sales, ongoing cost reductions and lower raw material prices.

The LG Home Entertainment Company recorded quarterly revenues of KRW 3.87 trillion (USD 3.24 billion), an increase of 3.5 percent from the 2018 period, reflecting strong sales in Latin America and the Middle East. Although operating income of KRW 318 billion (USD 266.3 million) declined slightly from a year ago due to intense market competition and a weaker exchange rate, strong sales of premium products such as OLED TVs resulted in a healthy quarterly operating margin of 8.2 percent for the quarter.

The LG Mobile Communications Company reported sales of KRW 1.52 trillion (USD 1.27 billion) for the quarter in a challenging global smartphone market. Compared with the previous quarter,  operating loss narrowed significantly to KRW 161.2 billion (USD 135 million) due to production efficiencies and cost improvements.

The LG Vehicle Component Solutions Company generated quarterly revenues of KRW 1.34 trillion (USD 1.12 billion), an increase of 14 percent from the third quarter last year thanks to increased sales in infotainment systems. Higher mass production setup costs related to new projects contributed to an operating loss of KRW 60.1 billion (USD 50.3 million) in the third quarter of 2019.

The LG Business Solutions Company reported sales in the third quarter of KRW 698.7 billion (USD 585.2 million), 21.2 percent higher than the same quarter last year due to stronger sales of information displays and solar modules in key markets. Operating income increased 90 percent year-on-year to KRW 66.8 billion (USD 55.9 million) as a result of improved productivity and higher sales.

LG CELEBRATES ENERGY STAR DAY WITH EFFICIENCY UPGRADES FOR DESERVING FAMILIES

Commemorating “Energy Star Day” in the United States, LG Electronics partnered with leading home improvement retailer Lowe’s and non-profit partner “Rebuilding Together” to provide energy efficiency upgrades for local families in Charlotte, North Carolina earlier this week.

A group photo of the volunteers at LG’s CSR event to commemorate Energy Star Day

Employees from LG and Lowe’s were among the 100-plus volunteers from the local community who joined together in October on critical home repairs for four residents in Charlotte’s Druid Hills neighborhood. They replaced flooring, repaired roofs and insulated for weatherization, painted interiors and exteriors, attached smoke detectors and handicap-accessible features – and installed Energy Star certified LG appliances.

Two volunteers unload LG-donated home appliances from the container of a truck.

The Energy Star improvements will not only make life more convenient, they will also save the families money over time. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, on average a house equipped with Energy Star certified appliances will save nearly USD 630 over the products’ lifetime.

A group of volunteers check and assemble parts of LG-donated home appliances.

According to Beth Morrison, Executive Director of Rebuilding Together of Charlotte, this year’s Energy Star Day project is part of a long-term, multi-partner reinvestment initiative to prevent displacement of current residents in the neighborhood. She thanked LG, Lowe’s and the EPA “for bringing much-needed energy efficiency upgrades to families in this underserved Charlotte community.”

LG provided front-load clothes washers earning the Energy Star Most Efficient 2019 designation and companion Energy Star certified clothes dryers. Some homes received an Energy Star certified LG top-load washer and companion Energy Star LG dryer. In addition to installing Energy Star LG InstaView Door-in-Door refrigerators in the homes, volunteers completed the kitchen makeovers with new LG ranges and microwave ovens.

Two volunteers carry LG’s microwave oven to bring it into a house of Charlotte’s Druid Hills neighborhood.

According to the EPA, the typical American household spends about USD 2,000 a year on energy bills. By choosing Energy Star, consumers can save 30 percent or about USD 575 in household energy costs. The EPA’s theme for Energy Star Day 2019 – “Save today. Save tomorrow. Save for good.” – represents not just the energy and money savings, but environmental benefits as well.

LG’s support of Energy Star Day 2019 “is consistent with our commitment to the environment and the community,” said Christine Ackerson, LG’s U.S. head of corporate social responsibility and sustainability. “This Energy Star Day and every day, LG and Energy Star help you save for good – for all the good things you want in your life and for a healthier planet for you and your family.”

In addition to being named 2019 Energy Star Partner of the Year-Sustained Excellence, LG earned the #1 rating in overall customer satisfaction across its home appliance portfolio that includes kitchen and laundry appliances, according to the 2019 American Customer Satisfaction Index® ratings. LG home appliances were rated second to none in overall product quality and value again this year and, for the second year in a row, LG took home the highest ACSI rankings in laundry for its Energy Star washers and dryers. What’s more, LG has earned more J.D. Power customer satisfaction awards in the United States for kitchen appliances than any other manufacturer for three straight years.

Latest G Series Continues Tradition of Strong Camera Performance,
Audio Engineering and Design Refinement

A woman holds the LG G8X ThinQ and the LG Dual Screen horizontally, with the Memo app on the Dual Screen and the LG Smart Keyboard on the main screen

SEOUL, Oct. 23, 2019 — Today, LG Electronics (LG) announced the global start of sales of LG G8XThinQ with LG Dual Screen, both unveiled in September at IFA 2019 in Berlin. Together, LG G8XThinQ with LG Dual Screen offer consumers an entirely new way to interact with a mobile device and usher in new possibilities for mobile gaming, content creation and consumption, productivity and much more. Availability will start in the U.S. on November 1 followed by key markets around the world such as Brazil, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Spain and Turkey over the next several weeks.

LG G8XThinQ Dual Screen lets consumers be as productive as they can be, quickly and easily. Whether texting a friend while watching a video, updating fantasy football while researching stats, sharing and comparing while online shopping, or writing an email while referencing a presentation, consumers can navigate, research, communicate and more across two screens simply and efficiently.

What’s more, LG G8XThinQ Dual Screen features unique experiences that provide more control for scenarios where two identical OLED displays simply work better than one, saving precious screen real estate. LG gives consumers the option to have the power and flexibility of two screens, but the freedom to choose one based on the situation. By detaching LG Dual Screen from LG G8XThinQ, going minimal is as simple as a snap.

LG Dual Screen boasts a convenient cover display, with the essentials like notifications, date, time, battery life available at a glance. With a 360° Freestop Hinge, LG Dual Screen is able to lock into at any angle, making it practical for use as a game controller at 120°, a mini-laptop at 140°, flat at 180°, a stand or tent at 270°, or to take a call flipped back on itself at 360°.

LG Game Pad* is an immersive dual screen experience designed to level-up mobile gaming and deliver an edge in the competitive moment. It gives gamers a complete view of a game on one screen and a full controller on the other, giving the options to choose from multiple virtual controllers or build a custom layout to match specific game play needs and styles. LG Game Pad mimics touch input on the main display, making it compatible with most games.

The LG Smart Keyboard converts LG G8XThinQ Dual Screen into a mini-laptop for on-the-go use. The bottom display transforms into a full-screen virtual keyboard making it easier to write emails, edit presentations, text, or search the web in full-screen on the top display.

LG’s newest G-series smartphone features a dynamic 6.4-inch OLED FullVision display, a powerful 32MP front-facing camera, impressive dual rear-facing cameras with innovative photo and video modes, two balanced 1.2W stereo speakers, the first in-display fingerprint sensor on an LG smartphone and a large 4,000mAh battery for all-day power.

“The introduction of LG G8XThinQ and LG Dual Screen enables us to be part of the conversation around larger mobile displays but at a much more price-friendly entry point,” said Morris Lee, senior vice president at LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “From the industry’s first wide angle camera in a smartphone, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and optical gesture control, LG continues to push the boundaries of smartphone innovation and this continues with LG G8XThinQ Dual Screen.”

THE PERFECT MATCH FOR CONTENT CREATORS IN VOGUE

In a survey of 3,000 youngsters between the ages of 8 and 12, more American and British kids said they wanted to be YouTube stars than astronauts or athletes.*

In many ways, it’s hard to be surprised by this.

What most respondents don’t see, however, is the amount of effort and time that goes into making great videos that attract the most views. Being a successful content creator takes determination for sure, but also skill. Producing content that’s both distinctive and original is extremely challenging.

And there’s more.

A woman holds LG G8XThinQ with LG Dual Screen in her two hands vertically to check the weather on the screen at an urban space with buildings.

Just as an auto mechanic needs reliable tools and a teacher needs desks, today’s most successful creators require prosumer-grade recording instruments. With the need to be mobile and ready to capture moments anywhere, anytime, today’s smartphone is often the creator’s backup device for never missing that important moment.

With many great smartphones with cameras available today, it’s a buyer’s market. But there is still nothing comparable to the combination of the LG G8XThinQ and LG Dual Screen for optimal content recording and creation.

Here are some reasons why…

Steady Cam for More Action, Less Nausea
One of the biggest challenges for content producers is shooting video on the move with a minimal amount of shake because no professional creator wants to induce nausea in the viewer. Most responsible creators use gimbals but unless that gimbal is pocket friendly, it may not be readily available. With Steady Cam in the rear 136-degree wide angle lens of the LG G8XThinQ, it’s now possible to minimize shake while delivering the action that today’s audiences demand.

A man holds LG G8XThinQ with LG Dual Screen in her two hands horizontally to watch the golf swing video on the golf course.

4K Time-lapse For Making Long Stories Less Boring
Time-lapse on a smartphone may not be new but in 4K, that’s a different story. The ability to shoot time-lapse videos on the LG G8XThinQ in stunning 4K detail takes on a whole new dimension. With a minimum of post-processing, show in minutes how you built that treehouse out of toothpicks (and a glue gun) or how you grew an avocado tree from a seed.

ASMR For The Masses
OK, ASMR may not be for everyone. ASMR, for those who haven’t run across this bizarre concept, stands for autonomous sensory meridian response. In other words, it’s sound that causes a good feeling accompanied (sometimes) by a tingly sensation on the skin. To create ASMR content, many creators use microphones calibrated specifically for ASMR quality sounds. The LG G8XThinQ is equipped with a highly-sensitive microphone that allows users to produce ASMR recordings without a separate recording device or attachments. This feature evolved from the High Acoustic Overload Point microphone which was first introduced on LG V10 and V20, far ahead of their time. An example of the high quality recording capability of the new LG G8XThinQ is available on LG Mobile’s Instagram page for real ASMR fans:

A snapshot of LG Mobile’s Instagram page which shows an example of the high-quality recording capability of the new LG G8XThinQ.

Advanced Front Camera Delivers Glorious Selfies
Any good photographer will tell you that the best images always start with great originals. In other words, there is so much one can do in post-process if the original image is low quality. The LG G8XThinQ sports a 32MP front shooter with an upgraded sensor that rivals its impressive rear cameras. Less time with Photoshop means more time to create Instagram-worthy selfies! Check out this Dual Mirror Mode from LG Mobile Global’s YouTube page.

One Take, One Shot with Dual Mirror Mode
When someone takes your picture, wouldn’t it be great if you could see what it’s going to look like before they press “shoot”? With the Dual Mirror mode of LG G8XThinQ and LG Dual Screen, you can. The Dual Screen provides a full-screen preview so you can adjust your pose and make sure your best angle is captured.

Reflector Mode for Portraits That Look Studio-Quality
Studio lighting might look beautiful, but it’s expensive and unsuitable for the on-the-go content creator. For well-lit portraits in any conditions, the LG G8XThinQ with Reflector Mode is the take-anywhere, use-anywhere solution. For shots that pop, the Dual Screen turns into a full-screen light source that’s color-adjustable, letting users select a custom hue to illuminate their composition and express their mood.

An example image of the Reflector Mode in LG G8XThinQ with LG Dual Screen to demonstrate the way the feature works

The LG G8XThinQ is the first LG phone to allow switching between front and rear cameras while recording video. And Tilt View is perfect for taking low- and high-angle shots, enabling users to see exactly what they’re capturing via the Dual Screen. For those yearning to become influential creators, the LG G8XThinQ and Dual Screen may be just what’s needed to turn dreams into reality, vision into actual images that captivate.

INSPIRING INDIANS DEMONSTRATE THE DIVERSITY OF INDIA THROUGH FOOD

By LG India Staff

A round metal dish full of Indian food

Whether it’s religion, language, or cultural traditions and attire, India is a land of great diversity. Perhaps, nowhere is this more apparent than in the country’s multitude of cuisines. The existence of many regional styles can be attributed to different climates, crops grown and spices used, among other factors. One thing about food that remains the same across India is that all household cooking is done by women.

But cooking the time-consuming traditional way is no longer possible for the millions of women who have joined the workforce in recent years. As such, many have turned to a proven solution for getting meals ready in a hurry: the trusty microwave oven.

The participants cook their own Indian food by using LG’s microwave ovens at the LG Mallika-E-Kitchen contest.

Though increasingly popular in India, microwave ovens are still considered by some Indians to be unhealthy and only useful for reheating leftovers. LG India launched the LG Mallika-E-Kitchen contest to prove these beliefs to be outdated. Running for eight years and still going strong today, the competition continues to inspire many women to explore the healthy possibilities offered by LG’s microwave ovens while also educating Indians about the importance of eating well. But most importantly, the event offers a unique opportunity for participants to exhibit their culinary flair!

Another view of the participants cooking their Indian food by using LG’s microwave ovens at the LG Mallika-E-Kitchen contest.

A nationwide event takes place over three rounds in three months. The first round involves more than 8,000 participants from 66 cities across India. The winners then go on to the regional stage and then the grand finale in late September. This year’s 12 finalists were challenged to cook a main course dish within 90 minutes using only LG’s Charcoal Microwave Oven to make the magic happen.

A top view of the table with a host of dishes which show off participants’ culinary skills

Contestants showed off their culinary skills, presenting sumptuous dishes such as sweet dessert pastry, baklava, jowar and bajra pancakes as well as an Indian rotini pasta, khandvi lasagna. “The whole experience has changed my mind about preparing meals with a microwave – LG’s charcoal model in particular lets you create dishes that taste great and are nutritionally well-balanced,” said one of the finalists.

Two event’s participants cook their Indian food by using LG’s microwave ovens at the LG Mallika-E-Kitchen contest.

The competition proved beyond a doubt that LG’s Charcoal Microwave Oven is ideal for cooking any style of Indian cuisine. The Charcoal Lighting HeaterTM preserves natural flavors and cooks food in less time, preventing the loss of nutrients common with conventional ovens. And LG’s Lightwave technology helps reduce fats in food through features such as Diet FryTM which offers a healthier way to prepare delicious fried treats with minimal use of oil, requiring almost 90 percent less oil than conventional frying methods.

At the grand finale, LG India made a commitment to Akshaya Patra, a non-governmental organization (NGO) that runs school meal programs across India, to help provide 2,200 children with healthy lunches over the next year. This promise is consistent with LG’s efforts on behalf of the Hunger-free India campaign to combat child malnutrition.

A group photo of award-winners posing with LG’s delegate at the LG Mallika-E-Kitchen contest

The Mallika-E-Kitchen contest has become something of an institution in the country, highlighting the lifestyle and health benefits of LG’s cooking appliances and the company’s genuine concern for the health of Indian women and their families. LG India’s efforts to reduce waste and improve the quality and availability of food for those in need exemplify what the company stands for – making life truly better for all.

BRAZILIAN SOCIAL MEDIA MAVENS PEDAL THEIR WAY TO MORE EFFICIENT INDOOR COOLING

By LG Brazil Staff

Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, what has never been in dispute is the fact that the more powerful a machine, the more power it requires. This has held true since the first light bulb and the first gasoline-powered vehicle. With petroleum reserves running dry and consumers’ focus on cleaner living, many are willing to accept lower performance for more energy savings. But when it comes to cooling a home, comfort always wins out over efficiency.

Social media celebrities take a group photo with their hands raised high.

To communicate both the performance and energy efficiency of LG’s DUAL Inverter Compressor-powered air conditioners in Brazil’s sweltering climate, LG came up with the most creative solution.

In the middle of the busy Iguatemi Shopping Mall in the southern city of Porto Alegre, LG held a biking challenge featuring two teams of seven popular social media celebrities to deliver the message that today’s technology is capable of delivering both maximum comfort as well as energy savings. The bicycles were hooked up to sensors that measured how much energy could be produced through pedal power, represented by colors on a digital display.

Two social media celebrities on a tandem bike pedal to produce the electricity.

But LG added a twist.

The two teams were separated by a curtain with one team pedaling a tandem bicycle, representing the dual rotors of LG’s super-efficient, low noise DUAL Inverter Compressor. Just as LG’s twin rotor design helps its air conditioners cool 40 percent faster than single inverter compressor units, the tandem bike was designed to be more efficient by spreading the input energy over two riders.

Another photo taken at a different angle with two media celebrities pedaling the tandem bike

Fast cooling is not the only advantage offered by LG’s compressor, it also excels in reducing energy consumption, using up to 70 percent less electricity than a single inverter system while simultaneously providing 40 percent faster cooling than non-inverter residential air conditioners.* This means users can save as much as USD 570 per year on energy bills while enjoying a blissfully cool home. On top of that, the compressor is also a super-silent performer, ensuring peace as well as supreme comfort.

Even the riders learned something new about air conditioning.

“I was surprised by the challenge’s clever twist and amazed at the incredible power and value the DUAL Inverter Compressor brings to LG air conditioners,” said Brazilian singer and actress Sophia Abrahão, one of the riders. Another participant, a respected financial expert and educator Mirna Borges, was impressed by how much one could actually save with higher air conditioning efficiency.

A participating celebrity stands in front of LG DUAL Inverter ARTCOOL air conditioner to take a picture.

For participating and giving the audience their best effort, each influencer received an LG DUAL Inverter ARTCOOL air conditioner. The stories and images they subsequently uploaded to their Instagram accounts resulted in more than two million views and helped generate over 300 posts and comments on the topic of LG and air conditioning.

An MC announces the commencement of the LG Dual Inverter Compressor Bike Challenge.

LG Brazil’s unique event was an inventive means of conveying the benefits of DUAL Inverter compressor-powered air conditioners but more importantly, it allowed LG to educate the public and social influencers of the importance of energy efficiency in the home. With products that exemplify such efficiency, it’s no surprise that LG products represent almost half of the residential air conditioning market in Brazil.

For LG, it doesn’t get any cooler than that.

EMPOWERING YOUNG INDIANS TO COMBAT WATER SCARCITY AND PLASTIC WASTE

A group photo of participants of the LG Eco Agents of Change campaign holding a banner with an illustration that promotes the importance of young people when it comes to conserving the environment.

By LG India Staff

More and more, water scarcity is becoming a very serious global issue. No less than four billion humans are faced with a lack of clean, safe drinking water at least one month of every year while more than half a billion worldwide live with the challenges of extreme water scarcity year round. The proliferation of single-use plastic items such as bottles, straws and bags, is only making matters worse, being a significant cause of the water pollution that ultimately restricts people’s access to drinkable, contaminate-free water.

A group photo of participating teachers at the LG Eco Agents of Change campaign

To address the problem and help effect lasting, positive change, LG India initiated the LG Eco Agents of Change campaign focusing on teaching the nation’s youth about the importance of water conservation, the need to improve access to safe drinking water and the dangers of single-use plastics. The program aims to empower tomorrow’s leaders with an important message to spread to a wider audience and future generations.

An instructor from the Forum for Organized Resource Conservation and Enhancement explains the LG Eco Agents of Change campaign in front of visiting teachers.

LG India teamed up with a total of 50 schools from 10 cities nationwide, nominating more than 350 teachers with backgrounds in science and environmental studies to receive training kits and online support from LG’s Eco Agents of Change NGO partner, Forum for Organized Resource Conservation and Enhancement (FORCE). With this new-found knowledge, students were empowered to become Eco Warriors.

Two girl students give their presentations about the water conservation and the importance of safe drinking water.

As part of the campaign, these students were encouraged to develop presentations to demonstrate water conservation and the importance of safe drinking water. Creative exhibits included rain harvesting, drip irrigation systems and water filtration using sand, gravel and charcoal. The youngsters also presented various creative solutions to reuse and repurpose disposable plastics into shopping bags, planters, even a chandelier!

A local team of the LG Eco Agents of Change campaign performs on the stage to encourage their community to do their part in combating the water and plastic pollution.

Participating students also held rallies and put on performances, encouraging all members of the community to do their part in combating the issues of water scarcity and plastic pollution. The involvement of local VIPs and government officials helped to spread the campaign’s important message to a national audience. Currently, the program is engaging approximately 2,800 students and more than 250 teachers.

A group photo of students from a local school who received LG’s water purifiers as part of the LG Eco Agents of Change campaign

As part of the campaign, LG India donated and installed 20 LG water purifiers (model LG WW182EP) in the schools participating in the campaign in Kolkata, Bangalore, Chandigarh and Lucknow. LG’s water purifiers deliver True Filtration through an advanced multi-stage reverse osmosis (RO) system that removes contaminants as small as 0.0001-micrometer in size and employ stainless steel tanks to ensure greater hygiene where clean, reliable drinking water is not always available.

Standing next to a teacher, five students hold up their paintings with some catch phrases to encourage water conservation.

LG Eco Agents of Change is an ongoing project that fits in with LG’s global program of working collaboratively with locals to make life better. In this particular instance, LG has enlisted the help of India’s young to change people’s behaviors and pave the way to a healthier environment with increased access to one of Earth’s most precious resources: clean water.

SIX REASONS LG G8X THINQ IS THE PERFECT GAMING COMPANION

Consumers have always coveted the ability to communicate on the run, untethered by wires or cables. But who could have predicted that the smartphone of 2019 would also be the ultimate entertainment device, surpassing the desktop PC, the laptop and even the living room TV for entertainment value? What’s more, who could have imagined five years ago that the mobile phone could one day compete with dedicated gaming consoles as a gaming platform? After all, the global electronic game market is expected to grow to more than USD 180 billion by 2021 with mobile games making up the majority of this growth.*

A man holds the LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen to play a mobile game.

So it should come as no surprise that device makers are looking at this segment as a huge opportunity.

The upcoming LG G8XThinQ is the successor to the LG V50ThinQ and carries over its unique feature – a removable second display. In the V50ThinQ, LG Dual Screen provides a new level of on-the-go multitasking excellence while offering gamers the perfect platform for an enhanced user experience in mobile gaming. But with LG V50 only offered in 5G, the majority of the world never got a chance to experience LG Dual Screen.

With the LTE-capable LG G8XThinQ and Dual Screen consumers no longer have to be content gaming on PCs or consoles. Here are six reasons why the LG G8XThinQ is the perfect gaming device for today’s mobile generation:

Full-sized touchscreen controllers on the LG Dual Screen, which allows users to either choose their game pads for shooting, racing, action and sports games, or design their own game pad.
1. Customizable LG Game Pad

As one of the most compelling uses of the second display for gamers, the LG Dual Screen comes with a full-sized touchscreen controller. Users can take advantage of the LG Game Pad with any mobile game that supports an external controller in order to enjoy an unobstructed view of the main display and the action taking place on it. Users can choose from a range of configurations specialized for shooting, racing, action and sports or they can design their own game pad in minutes.

The new Dual Screen with the LG G8X ThinQ displays a racing game on the top screen and the game pad for racing games on the bottom screen respectively.

2. Video Gaming Tips

With the extra screen real estate and enhanced level of multitasking provided by the LG Dual Screen, gamers in need of tips to get through tough levels can pull up hint videos without missing a beat. With two displays, users can level up their gaming skills by keep the game in play on one screen while picking up tips from other players on the other screen. The Game Launcher app on the LG Dual Screen even includes a shortcut to YouTube’s Gaming Channel for faster access.

3. Keep Connected in Real Time

Users can stay in the gaming action even while chatting with friends or fellow gamers. Whether communicating with your team or texting friends or family, multitasking on LG Dual Screen is as easy as can be. No need to interrupt the game to respond to an urgent message. As far as your friends and family are concerned, you’re always connected!

A man and a woman hold up the LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen smartphones to play a multi-platform game at the same time.

4. See Better, See More

LG threw the ultimate home entertainment-themed party with a multi-room pop-up bar in New York City last week and invited guests to raise a glass to the industry’s first-ever refrigerator to produce large, slow-melting ice – LG InstaView™ Door-in-Door® Refrigerators with Craft Ice.™

World-famous rappers, Vanilla Ice and Ice-T, hold open the doors of the LG InstaView™ Door-in-Door® Refrigerator with Craft Ice at the Craft Ice House hosted by LG event.

Throughout the weekend, more than 2,000 guests made themselves at home and enjoyed artfully crafted libations by top mixologists like Pernod Ricard’s national mixologist, Jane Danger (Mother of Pearl beverage director), Elliot Clark (Apartment Bartender founder), Stacie Grissom (Garden Cocktail blogger) and Rael Petit (Tribeca Grand Hotel food and beverage manager).

LG SIGNATURE ILLUSTRATES THE INTERSECTION OF ART AND TECHNOLOGY AT LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL

As a first time participant of London Design Festival, the team behind LG SIGNATURE wanted to clearly communicate the uncompromising design and advanced functionality behind the premium home appliance and consumer electronics brand and generate healthy, fun conversation in the process. For ten days before the festival, LG featured a 30-second promotional video for LG SIGNATURE on its outdoor billboards in Piccadilly Circus that reached more than million Londoners every day.

LG’s promotional video for LG SIGNATURE is displayed on the screen of a large digital signage in Piccadilly Circus, London.

LG SIGNATURE’s exhibition space was designed in collaboration with Wallpaper, the U.K. based design, fashion and lifestyle magazine. Held in historic Somerset House, the exclusive event was attended by over 100 guests that included media, high society VIPs and prominent members of the design and luxury world. The bustling venue became the place for in-depth discussions about design and technology.

Visitors were able to experience the latest range of LG SIGNATURE products alongside a series of stunning sculptures sharing the ultra-premium brand’s minimalist aesthetic. The latest range of LG SIGNATURE products includes the OLED TV W, French Door Refrigerator and Bottom-freezer Refrigerator, Wine Cellar, Washer & Dryer, Air Purifier and Air Conditioner.

Attendees discuss the LG InstaView Door-in-Door refrigerator at LG SIGNATURE’s exhibition space.

But the main highlight was Masters’ Talk, an exclusive lecture and a panel discussion highlighting the close relationship between art and technology. Led by Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas, the husband-and-wife team behind renowned architecture firm, Studio Fuksas, the lecture shed light on the couple’s design philosophy and their distinctive architectural creations.

Six panels talk about the Intersection of Art and Technology at the Master’s Talk session.

A panel discussion followed the informative talk session with Massimiliano Fuksas joined by the respected independent watchmaker Antoine Preziuso, visual artist and founder Matt Clark of London-based collective United Visual Artists (UVA) and Chung Wook-jun, head of Home Appliance & Air Solution Design Lab at LG Electronics.

“Technology, especially when it reaches a certain level that cannot be imitated, becomes a part of the beauty and the value,” said Antoine Preziuso, the bespoke timepiece maker who is highly revered for his revolutionary triple tourbillon design. “LG SIGNATURE products, the integration of most advanced technology and design, are of great beauty and beauty is a promise of happiness.”

The Studio Fuksas team stressed the value of architecture that combines beauty with advanced technology. “True masterpieces are about perfect harmony between the beauty you want to create and technology that was carefully measured to capture that moment of art, giving people a glimpse of something that it truly great, better than that they ever imagined,” said Massimiliano Fuksas.

Visual artist Matt Clark emphasized the importance of essence in design. “Just like LG SIGNATURE OLED TV can be used as a kind of light-emitting canvas, art and technology will continue to work together, opening up a whole new area of potential,” he said. “Although the technology constantly changes, the most important thing is the concept, essence that’s meant to be communicated.”

LG FILES IP LAWSUIT AGAINST ARÇELIK A.Ş. AND RELATED HOME APPLIANCE COMPANIES

LG Responds Aggressively to Unauthorized Use of Its
Patented Freezer Door-Ice Making Technology

A close-up view of showing LG’s patented door-ice making refrigerator technology.

SEOUL, Sep. 25, 2019 — LG Electronics Inc. (LG) has filed patent infringement lawsuits against Turkish-based home appliance manufacturer Arçelik A.Ş. and its German affiliates Beko Deutschland GmbH and Grundig Intermedia GmbH in The Munich (Ger.) District Court I. The suits center on the unlicensed implementation of LG’s freezer door-ice making technology featured in a number of the companies’ refrigerators sold in Europe. The three companies are all affiliates of Turkey’s Koç Holding A.Ş., whose home appliances are available mainly in Turkey and major European markets.

Legal action became LG’s final option after negotiations with Arçelik A.Ş., Beko Deutschland GmbH’s and Grundig Intermedia GmbH’s parent company, failed to make headway. LG’s freezer door-ice making technology was originally developed by LG for its Side-by-Side refrigerator models and is included in a portfolio of more than 400 patents specifically relating to door-ice making technology. LG’s patented door-ice making technology efficiently utilizes the storage space of the freezer to take up less room than a conventional ice maker and frees up more space for food storage. In June of this year, LG licensed its patented door-ice making technology for French-door refrigerators to Haier-owned GE Appliances.

“We continue to proactively protect our intellectual property and will respond vigorously to the unauthorized use of our patented technologies,” said Jeon Saeng-gyu, executive vice president of LG’s Intellectual Property Center. “As international competition over innovation increases, it is more important than ever that we protect our investments in research and development.”

LG ELECTRONICS, UNITY TECHNOLOGIES COLLABORATE ON AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE SIMULATION

LG Leverages Unity Simulation to Revolutionize
System Training for Autonomous Vehicle Developers

Logo of LG Electronics and Unity Technologies

SEOUL, Sep. 24, 2019 — Engineers at the LG Electronics America R&D Center in Silicon Valley are working with machine learning experts at Unity Technologies to develop advanced simulation software that will enable autonomous vehicle developers to accelerate system development for safer self-driving cars. The collaboration of LGSVL Simulator on Unity Simulation leverages LG’s AI leadership and expertise as a leading technology partner to the global automotive industry, combined with complementary skills of Unity Technologies, creator of the world’s leading real-time 3D development platform.

Unity Simulation enables the running of multiple instances of a Unity product at scale, lowering the barrier to train, test or validate new products and services in a high-fidelity 3D environment. Computer-vision-oriented applications for the automotive industry are particularly compelling, according to Danny Lange, Unity Technologies vice president of AI and Machine Learning.

Seonman Kim, vice president of engineering in LG’s Advanced Platform Lab in Silicon Valley, emphasized the importance of the LG-Unity partnership. “Unity’s confidence in the LGSVL Simulator for the development of safe and robust autonomous driving is a clear indicator that this is a win-win partnership from the start,” he said. “We look forward to exploring with Unity new opportunities to bring our respective technologies to the automotive market.”

The collaboration between the two companies in advanced simulation is expected to greatly benefit the automotive industry as it moves toward a self-driving future. Autonomous vehicle developers running the LGSVL Simulator on Unity Simulation will be able to dramatically accelerate the training of their systems by running multiple scenarios in parallel. With Unity’s latest advancements, the LGSVL Simulator can utilize digital twins of real-world environments with accurate sensor models to train autonomous vehicles across multiple scenarios.

Training and validating an autonomous vehicle is a prime example of how a virtual environment can dramatically reduce the risk for both the car and those around it, allowing businesses to stress-test systems before they are put on the road. The LGSVL Simulator combines LG-developed technologies with Unity’s High-Definition Render Pipeline to enable testing and training for safer operation of autonomous vehicles.

The LGSVL Simulator on Unity Simulation will be demonstrated at Unity’s Unite 2019 event in Copenhagen on September 26.
