LG's GX Soundbar is placed under LG GX Gallery OLED series TV

SEOUL, July 8, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG) today announced its newest soundbar designed to deliver an exceptional home entertainment experience as well as a new level of spatial and stylistic integration with the company’s premium TVs. The LG GX soundbar boasts excellent sound, advanced features and sophisticated aesthetics designed to complement LG’s award-winning GX Gallery OLED series TVs.

The GX soundbar is the perfect visual companion to LG’s artistically-inspired Gallery series OLED TVs. To offer maximum flexibility, the soundbar can be mounted either flush on the wall directly under the TV or supported using the included sturdy steel stand. Measuring 15H x 144.6W x 3.25D cm, the GX soundbar is identical in width and finish to the 65-inch LG GX Gallery series TV. At the core of LG’s gallery design is the philosophy of a complete TV system that can fit harmoniously within a given space – a concept LG’s designers refer to as “adding spatial value.”

LG GX soundbar delivers superior sound thanks to Dolby Atmos and DTX:S for remarkable three-dimensional audio. The speaker is Dolby Vision compatible via 4K pass-through, enabling the best possible picture and sound quality for truly cinematic home viewing. The included subwoofer connects wirelessly to the soundbar to deliver low-frequency bass from anywhere in the room and adding LG’s wireless rear speaker kit (model SPK8, sold separately) delivers even more power and a greater sense of immersion.

The soundbar delivers upgraded user convenience and easy connectivity options including enhanced audio return channel (eARC) and Bluetooth. With its higher bandwidth, eARC provides the full richness of high-resolution audio formats such as Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio while Bluetooth facilitates effortless, ultra quality streaming from a smartphone or tablet.

What’s more, the LG GX soundbar is Hi-Res Audio certified, offering lossless playback at 24bit/96kHz with greater vibrancy and nuance. The speaker produces detailed, natural sound when playing high-resolution audio files or when up-converting conventional audio formats. The built-in LG AI Sound Pro feature analyzes and automatically applies the best sound settings regardless of the content, ensuring maximum listening enjoyment every time.

The new LG GX soundbar will roll out starting this month in Europe, North America, Asia as well as other key markets. Check local retailers for price and exact date of availability.

ANYTHING BUT ORDINARY: THE DESIGN OF LG VELVET

The four beautiful color options of the new LG VELVET smartphone

There are two types of smartphone owners in the world: those who wish to be part of a bigger group and those who want to be different.

It’s safe to say that LG smartphones have always been aligned with the second group.

From its nature-inspired design language to its expressive colors and tactilely pleasing form, LG VELVET immediately stands out from the crowd, delivering something refreshingly new at a time when “same old same old” has become the smartphone space mantra.

The four expressive colors of LG VELVET

In the past decade, consumers have seen very little change in smartphone designs. Now those same customers are expected to choose from among a number of “flagship” devices all sporting very similar components and “specs”, oftentimes having to part with more than a week’s wages for the privilege to do so. LG VELVET attempts to rewrite the formula for those who want the best a company has to offer but don’t want to pay for features that they will likely never use.

An image illustrating the various ways LG VELVET can be used while attached to its Dual Screen

Even the name itself – LG VELVET – evokes a sense of luxury and a smoothness that feels as good as it looks. Combining colors and design elements that are as unique as the individual, LG’s latest smartphone is the embodiment of the company’s more user-centric philosophy and a hopefully refreshing departure from the status quo.

The VELVET’s different look starts with the intent of LG’s designers, who consciously set aside conventional wisdom and banished the use of familiar design touches to create a phone of distinctive beauty and exceptional usability. Let’s take a look at three key design features of the new LG VELVET.

An illustration of the advanced nano-material layered film technology of LG VELVET

Colors

With compelling colors that change and shimmer depending on the angle they are seen from, LG VELVET is stunning to behold and ideal for expressing one’s individual style. The dancing colors reflect and refract light to mesmerizing effect, a feat made possible via the use of tiny, intricate Optical Patterns and advanced Nano-material Layered Film technology.

Two representative colors of LG VELVET; Illusion Sunset and Aurora Green, next to images depicting their inspiration

In fact, a unique optical pattern was created for Illusion Sunset, Aurora Green, Aurora White, Aurora Grey and Aurora Silver, with colors varying depending on the market and carrier. Nano-material Layered Films are created using hundreds of thin layers of microscopic materials, each with a different refractive index. The layers of material reflect light from different angles to produce the diverse hues, so Illusion Sunset transforms the VELVET into a magnificent canvas with notes of coral, orange and yellow that appear to move and flicker organically.

3D Arc Design

Making its debut on LG VELVET, LG’s 3D Arc Design delivers a satisfying sense of balance, imbuing the handset with its perfectly symmetrical front and rear edges. Not only are front and back symmetrical edges pleasing to the eye, the gentle curves are also pleasing to touch, helping to ensure a comfortable, secure grip in the user’s hand.

The irony of good design is that so much effort is taken to create something that appears so completely effortless. It took a great deal of deliberation and many mockups and trials before LG’s designers were able to perfect the phone’s signature curves – which are actually comprised of four different arcs that together produce a more natural feeling when holding the device.

A designer works on the aesthetics of LG VELVET’s rear camera setup that resembles falling raindrops

Raindrop

Bulky, square “stovetop” cameras that protrude from the rear of the smartphone have somehow become trendy. The LG VELVET design team opted to ignore this evolution for a sleeker option, keeping with the handset’s elegant, nature-inspired aesthetic. The back of LG VELVET with its three aesthetically pleasing high-quality cameras

Located at the upper right of the rear case, the “Raindrop” camera features three high-quality lenses and an LED flash, positioned one above the other to resemble falling rain drops. This graceful touch shows a keen attention to detail, while the lenses themselves pair with LG’s innovative content creation features to deliver an outstanding camera experience.

LG NAMED GM INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR

Automotive Leader General Motors Recognizes LG Electronics for
Innovative Technologies Including Cadillac’s P-OLED Digital Cockpit Solution

A close-up of the trophy, with the GM Innovation Award logo displayed

SEOUL, July 1, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG) received the coveted GM Innovation Award announced at General Motors’ 28th Annual Supplier of the Year Awards event last week, the automotive leader’s first ever virtual ceremony. Among other innovations, the award recognizes LG’s development (together with sister company LG Display) of the revolutionary P-OLED cockpit technology in the 2021 Cadillac Escalade.

This year, more than 100 companies from 15 countries were recognized as top GM suppliers with only five suppliers receiving the prestigious Innovation Award. LG Electronics and LG Display were praised for delivering cutting-edge automotive technology and vehicle components that furthered vehicle capabilities and the driving experience. This is the second time LG Electronics has been recognized by GM as a valued partner, having received the Innovation Award in 2016 with LG Chem for supplying innovative automotive technologies and components toward GM’s electric vehicle (EV) efforts.

The P-OLED cockpit technology in the 2021 Cadillac Escalade not only acts as an impressive centerpiece inside the iconic SUV, it also represents the first time LG’s advanced Digital Cockpit Solution is featured in a commercial vehicle. The 38-inch display is composed of three separate P-OLED display panels, the largest measuring 16.9 inches diagonally. The three curved screens make up the Instrument Panel Cluster for displaying basic vehicle-related information and an Integrated Central Stack  that serves as an infotainment display for audio, video and easy navigation. LG’s futuristic integrated display system offers a wide viewing angle, unmatched design flexibility and a much improved Human Machine Interface (HMI).

LG Electronics continues to work closely with GM across various sectors, and since 2015, has been supplying 11 important vehicle parts, including infotainment systems, instrument clusters and driving components, for GM’s leading electric vehicle, the Chevrolet Bolt EV.

“We are honored to be recognized by an industry leader such as General Motors, and LG will continue to strive to be a partner that understands the needs of our customers and grows with them,” said Kim Jin-yong, president of the LG Vehicle Component Solutions Company. “GM and LG share a vision of the vehicle cabin as a complete state-of-the-art system that lets drivers take the comforts of home with them.”

LG’S LED SIGNAGE FEATURING NON-CONTACT CONNECTORS DELIVERS BETTER IMAGES, EASIER INSTALLATION

Latest LED Signage Solution Leverages Innovative Design with Industry-leading
Display Technology for Even More Performance, Customer Value

A man demonstrating how easy LG LED SIGNAGE is to install as he fits one of the final LED panels to complete a colorful display

SEOUL, June 26, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG) is introducing its most advanced digital signage solution yet, the innovative LG LED Signage (model LSAA), the latest in display technology and design. The LSAA offers even better image quality and easier installation1 than its popular predecessors which propelled LG into one of the leading digital signage solution providers in the industry.

The LSAA features a block-assembly design that makes constructing large displays a cinch. LG designed its solution around a single LED cabinet hub (600W x 337.5H x 44.9D mm) to provide power and signal to the entire signage without additional cabling between cabinets to save time, hassle and costs while delivering up to 4K UHD resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. The ability to smoothly send and receive signals wirelessly is due to LG’s non-contact connector technology with power being sent to each display via pin connectors located on the edges of the LED cabinet hub.

What’s more, the LED cabinet allows installers to connect multiple displays to achieve the desired size. With straightforward installation and expandability, the LSAA can be set up or reconfigured onsite in a fraction of the time it takes other LED displays. Wall-mounts and frame-type accessories offer a number of installation options to meet the diverse requirements of different site conditions and customers’ needs.

LG LSAA with the same AI-powered Image Processor found in LG’s popular high-end TVs delivers vibrant images2 via its self-emissive display technology and narrow 1.2mm distance between pixels, with gaps to narrow even further to less than 1mm in the second half of the year. To ensure better efficiency, the product employs the common cathode method where the cathodes of the LEDs are common and connected to a single pin to prevent unnecessary power consumption, delivering only the required voltage to each sub-pixel.

“Our LSAA series sets a new standard for LED signage solutions in the commercial display market,” said Paik Ki-mun, senior vice president and head of the Information Display business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “Innovation in products such as the LSAA enables LG to lead the LED signage industry with superb picture quality, enhanced ease of installation and unbeatable value.”

LG’s newest LED signage will be available this month starting in North America and Europe with subsequent rollouts taking place in Latin America and Asia.

NEWEST LG TRUE WIRELESS EARBUDS SELF-CLEAN, SOUND GREAT WITH MERIDIAN AUDIO

TONE Free Model HBS-FN6 with UVnano Case Removes Germs While Charging

LG TONE Free with open UVnano charging case both in matte stylish black

SEOUL, June 25, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG) revealed two new LG TONE Free true wireless earbuds (models HBS-FN6 and HBS-FN4), both delivering exceptional listening experience with lifelike audio thanks to Meridian Audio technology. LG HBS-FN6 features LG’s industry-first UVnano case which eliminates bacteria and germs on the earbuds as they charge. The new canal-type design delivers a more comfortable fit and comes in two colors: matte Stylish Black and glossy Modern White.

The earbuds deliver an extra dimension courtesy of HSP (Headphone Spatial Processing) technology from Meridian – LG’s long-standing audio partner in delivering superior sound – powered by Digital Signal Processing, a technology that Meridian has been perfecting for over 25 years. DSP not only recreates a realistic soundstage that simulates the experience of listening to real loudspeakers, it also delivers vocals with pristine clarity, completely immersing the listener.

Both TONE Free models feature customized EQ sound settings developed by Meridian with each mode offering four unique presets to deliver a perfectly tailored listening experience: Natural for authentic and balanced sound, Immersive for an expanded sense of space, Bass Boost for that extra punch and Treble Boost for greater clarity to vocal performances. Noise isolation provided by the snug-fitting eartips provide a tight seal that blocks out most distracting exterior noise while Ambient Sound Mode lets wearers hear what’s going on around them with the press of a button.

The higher end HBS-FN6 includes LG’s innovative UVnano charging case for protected storage, hassle-free charging and enhanced hygiene. Several studies have shown that earbuds can harbor more bacteria than a kitchen cutting board, leading to potential ear infections.1 Utilizing built-in ultraviolet light, LG’s slim charging case keeps listeners’ ears cleaner by eliminating 99.9 percent of E. coli and S. aureus 2 from the non-toxic, hypoallergenic silicone ear gel 3 and inner mesh. The compact charging case provides up to an hour of listening time after a five minute charge. Fully charged, both models provide six hours of usage with the UVnano case delivering three full charges for a total of 18 hours of listening enjoyment.

“LG has always striven to deliver better sound to more consumers and with our new TONE Free earbuds we are expanding on our successful partnership with Meridian Audio,” said Park Hyung-woo, head of LG Home Entertainment Company’s audio and video division. “On top of great sound, TONE Free brings something new to the table that is also very practical.”

The new LG TONE Free boasts enhanced usability and durability with both models rated IPX4 for protection against splashing water, rain and perspiration while working out. Both HBS-FN6 and HBS-FN4 also feature Voice Command for convenient voice access to Google Assistant or Siri on a connected smartphone. Intuitive touch commands built into each earbud allows the listener to play, pause, skip and control the volume level without reaching for the phone.

“We poured all of our accumulated expertise into creating the sound identity for this new range of LG TONE Free products,” commented John Buchanan, CEO at Meridian Audio. “Whether you’re at home, in the car, commuting or at the gym, the new LG TONE models are a clear step forward in audio innovation and performance for consumers worldwide, meeting the demand for convenient high quality listening experiences, anywhere.”

LG GX Gallery Series OLED TV Is Design Done Right

When LG Electronics introduced its jaw-dropping “wallpaper” OLED TV in 2017, it was hard to imagine how LG engineers and designers could top this product. This year, that’s exactly what they did.

Introducing LG GX Gallery series OLED TV.

Available in 55-, 65-, and 77-inch screen sizes, LG’s GX Gallery series TVs deliver everything that was cutting-edge about the wallpaper TV without the need for a separate soundbar to house all the electronics. So what owners see is only the stunning OLED picture quality, bringing instant sophistication and improved spatial integration to viewers’ living environments.

The company’s success in creating a product that fuses together form and function so seamlessly has earned recognition from the world’s most prestigious design award programs, its 65-inch GX Gallery series OLED TV winning the Best of the Best title at this year’s Red Dot Design Award and top honors at the iF Design Award 2020.

A close-up shot of the integrated bracket which holds the LG GX Gallery series TV against the wall

This advanced TV’s perfectly executed minimalist aesthetic and integrated bracket that allows for flush-to-the-wall mounting are the outcome of LG’s peerless gallery design. A triumph of human-centered industrial design, the GX Gallery lineup would not look out of place in an art gallery exhibit, displayed as a series of understated, ultra-modern sculptures. It is this refined, artistic quality that the TVs bring to consumers’ homes and what enables them to complement and augment practically any existing décor.

At the core of the gallery design is the creation of a complete TV that can fit harmoniously within a given space – a concept LG’s designers refer to as “adding spatial value.” The team behind the GX Gallery stayed true to its original vision throughout the entire development process, working closely with LG engineers to deliver a new kind of TV. The results speak for themselves: an advanced OLED TV with a thickness of less than 20 millimeters and a built-in, ultra-slim bracket that hugs the wall and is completely hidden from view.

A woman uses her London transportation card to demonstrate just how thin the gap between the wall and the LG GX Gallery TV is

The gallery design would not have been possible without OLED, a technology which LG’s expertise remains unmatched. OLED’s inherent thinness enabled the designers to pursue the unique and elegantly slender form factor they envisioned and see it become a reality. LG’s OLED technology is also what enables the TVs to provide such unforgettable viewing experiences, with phenomenal color expression, infinite contrast and a wide viewing angle.

Designers of the LG GX Gallery series, Kim Yoon-soo on the left and Kim Hyung-won on the right Kim Yoon-soo                                        Kim Hyung-won

LG Electronics senior design researchers Kim Yoon-soo and Kim Hyung-won led the development of the new gallery design. “Like all great designs, the design of the GX Gallery series feels completely natural and entirely unforced,” said Kim Hyung-won. “Yet, arriving at the finished product wasn’t at all easy.”

“At the very outset, the team spent a significant amount of time looking through an enormous amount of consumer research to see what people actually want in a TV, and to discover where they could add value,” added Kim Yoon-soo. “Then for the next two years, LG’s designers and engineers worked tirelessly to overcome the many technical and design challenges that presented themselves, before finally delivering what can accurately be described as a true masterpiece.”

A woman takes a closer look at the thinness of the LG GX Gallery series TV

Creating a sense of harmony wherever they’re installed, LG’s GX Gallery series TVs are designed to effortlessly fit in with modern consumers’ lifestyles, providing more possibilities to curate their living spaces and more room to enjoy life.

With its latest TVs, LG has once again proven that when it comes to making daily life better through technological innovation and design “done right,” the company is in a league of its own.

GERMAN COURT FINDS IN FAVOR OF LG ELECTRONICS IN IP SUIT AGAINST BEKO, GRUNDIG

The front shot of LG's side-by-side refrigerator

SEOUL, June 23, 2020 — LG Electronics Inc. (LG) has prevailed in a decision by the the Munich (Ger.) District Court I ruling that Turkish-based home appliance companies Beko Deutschland GmbH and Grundig Intermedia GmbH had infringed LG’s patent. The lawsuits centered on the unlicensed implementation of LG’s freezer door-ice making technology.

LG will now seek an injunction on the sale of infringing refrigerators produced by Ar-çelik A.Ş. in Turkey and imported and sold by Beko and Grundig. LG’s freezer door-ice making technology was originally developed by LG for its Side-by-Side refrigerator models and is included in a portfolio of more than 400 patents specifically relating to door-ice making technology.

“LG Electronics is pleased with the court’s decision that Turkish companies should not be allowed to continue using technology developed by many LG engineers over thousands of hours without due compensation,” said Jeon Saeng-gyu, executive vice president of LG’s Intellectual Property Center. “On behalf of innovators and creators world over, LG will continue to challenge the practice of intellectual property theft by companies that believe they can benefit from the hard work of others.”

LG’s Iconic InstaView Refrigerator Hits Sales Milestone of One Million Units Worldwide

Customer-focused Innovation Underscores Technological Leadership
and Strong Position in the Global Refrigerator Market

A man in suit standing in front of LG InstaView Door-in-Door™ refrigerator in a kitchen, holding a glass of beverage with Craft Ice™

SEOUL, June 23, 2020 — LG Electronics’ premium InstaView Door-in-Door™ refrigerator hit a milestone this month when it reached one million in sales worldwide since its introduction in 2016. With an average of more than 700 units sold every day, this large-capacity refrigerator from LG is now available in approximately 150 countries in six continents.

LG Electronics’ premium InstaView Door-in-Door™ refrigerator is designed to deliver an elevated culinary lifestyle, striking the perfect balance between form and function. It boasts stylish aesthetics and practical features that have won recognition from some of the world’s most prestigious design awards such as Red Dot Design Award and iF Design Award.

“This milestone is a testament to LG’s ability to develop differentiated, high-quality products that have propelled us to the top of the ranks in many home appliance categories,” said Dan Song, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “Today’s appliances include as much technology as a computer or smartphone and our customers have high expectations of them. Our advanced technology and customer-first approach is resonating with consumers who have made InstaView one of the fastest-selling refrigerator brands as long as refrigerators have existed.”

LG InstaView gets its name from the refrigerator’s chameleon-like panel in the door that can be transformed into a transparent window with just two knocks on the glass. This allows users to see what’s inside without opening the door, reducing cold air loss. Along with InstaView, Door-in-Door™ provides easy access to favorite drinks and snacks while reducing exposure of the main refrigerator compartment to room temperature air, helping to decrease cold air loss by more than 41 percent.*

To satisfy growing global demand of InstaView refrigerators, LG has added the convenience-enhancing feature to more refrigerators in its lineup, including French-Door and Side-by-Side, among others. What’s more, the popular InstaView technology can now be found in other LG appliances such as the LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar and ThinQ™ Range.

LG’s never-ending quest to add value to its refrigerators through useful innovations has led to the development of more technologies designed to create a more efficient and more pleasant culinary life. For example, Smart Care+ utilizes LG ThinQ™ AI to keep food fresh longer, lower energy costs and deliver a more personalized service. By analyzing data collected over several weeks, the intelligent appliance can detect usage patterns allowing it to lower its temperature prior to times of heavy use in order to better maintain its set target temperature. Smart Care+ leverages the same data to reduce energy waste, automatically putting the refrigerator in Save Mode during periods of infrequent usage. And with Craft Ice™, dinner hosts can pretend to be experienced bartenders, mixing drinks with round ice to liven up any cocktail.

First Movie Theater With LG LED Cinema Display and Dolby Atmos Makes Movies Even More Magical

Advanced Projector-less LED Movie Theater Features
Full Dolby Atmos for Breathtaking Immersive Audio

A woman and a man are looking at the LG LED Cinema Display as it produces a colorful nature scene at Showtime Cinemas, Taiwan's leading movie theater company

SEOUL, June 16, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG) is wowing moviegoers in Taiwan with the opening of the world’s first movie theater equipped with LG LED Cinema display technology featuring Dolby’s cinema server solution and Dolby Atmos immersive audio. In collaboration with Taiwan’s leading theater chain, Showtime Cinemas, the futuristic theater is also the first in the market to completely replace the projector with LED technology.

LG and Dolby Laboratories closely collaborated to integrate Dolby’s Integrated Media Server (IMS3000) with LG’s innovative LED Cinema. Dolby’s IMS3000 allows movies to play in full Dolby Atmos to produce a wide soundstage that surrounds the audience by projecting sounds corresponding to the movement and position of objects on the screen. Pairing Dolby Atmos with the vibrant, lifelike images of LG’s LED Cinema creates a more immersive experience that makes going to the movies even more memorable and magical.

At 14 meters wide and seven meters high, the dazzling LG screen produces finely-detailed 4K images on a scale rarely seen. Unlike conventional digital projectors, LG’s system ensures excellent picture quality across the entire surface without any distortion. Due to its ability to control each individual pixel, LG LED Cinema guarantees a superior contrast ratio and amazingly accurate color reproduction. Furthermore, LG LED Cinema meets the highest standards for content security and Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) certification.

“Our intent is to elevate the movie-going experience beyond what consumers have become accustomed to,” said Paik Ki-mun, head of the Information Display business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “We’re confident that the advanced technologies behind LG LED Cinema and Dolby solutions will grow our share of the growing LED cinema market.”

“We are excited about our collaboration with LG Electronics to bring our combined expertise to movie goers in Taiwan,” said Jed Harmsen, vice president of Cinema & Content Solutions at Dolby Laboratories, Inc. “With the lifelike images created by LG’s LED Cinema and the immersive audio delivered by Dolby Atmos, moviegoers will be able to enjoy an elevated and thoroughly captivating cinematic experience.”

Era of New Elegance Starts With LG VELVET

Visually and Tactilely Pleasing, New Design Language and
User-Centric Features Deliver a Fresh Mobile Experience

Front and rear view of LG VELVET in New Black, Aurora Silver, Illusion Sunset, Aurora Green, Aurora White and Aurora Gray

SEOUL, June 15, 2020 — On the heels of its South Korea launch, the new LG VELVET smartphone will begin rolling out in key European markets this month. LG VELVET arrives in Germany, Italy, Spain, Hungary and Poland first, followed by various countries in North America, Asia, Middle East, Africa and Latin America in the weeks ahead.

LG VELVET’s new design, characterized by flowing lines, curved corners and symmetrical front and rear edges are all implementations of the new 3D Arc Design language. Smooth, polished surfaces, shimmering colors and elegant touches such as the “Raindrop” camera that evokes imagery of falling rain set LG VELVET apart from its peers. This new, nature-inspired design language makes LG VELVET visually striking and comfortable to hold.

Key to the design is LG VELVET’s thin 7.9 millimeter profile, only made possible with its 6.8-inch P-OLED Cinematic FullVision display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, the first mobile platform from the company to integrate an application processor and 5G modem for superb performance in a smaller package that requires less power. Compatible with the enhanced LG Dual Screen (sold separately), both the VELVET and Dual Screen displays work with compatible active stylus pens.

“Powered by the Snapdragon 765G, the LG VELVET is equipped to deliver exceptional performance to meet even the most demanding 5G use cases, while also enabling intelligent multi-camera capture, high-speed gaming and all-day battery life,” said Alex Katouzian, senior vice president and general manager of the Mobile Business Unit, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “We’re excited to continue working with LG to help deliver 5G to more consumers with this truly global device.”

LG VELVET offers a fully immersive mobile viewing and gaming experience thanks to an easy-to-hold 6.8-inch P-OLED Cinematic FullVision display with a 20.5:9 aspect ratio. To limit accidental touches on the bright, slightly curved display, LG developed the Grip Suppression algorithm that identifies deliberate versus unintentional screen touches. To match the sumptuous visuals, VELVET delivers realistic and detailed audio through its stereo speakers enhanced by LG 3D Sound Engine. And with the headphone jack nearly extinct on today’s smartphones, it is reassuring for audiophiles to know that LG VELVET has their backs.

LG VELVET offers a suite of advanced imaging solutions called LG Creator’s Kit that takes maximum advantage of the phone’s 48MP main camera, other high-quality lenses and unique camera software. Timelapse Control lets users adjust exactly how fast they want their videos to look, while ASMR Recording employs the two high-sensitivity microphones to capture the faintest of sounds in all their magnificent detail. Voice Bokeh minimizes background noise in videos to keep the focus on the subject while 3D AR Sticker and 3D Photo Effect make taking portraits of friends and family a whole new experience.

To meet the diverse tastes of consumers, LG VELVET comes in a range of expressive, nature-inspired colors – Illusion Sunset, Aurora Green, Aurora White and Aurora Gray – with more colors such as Aurora Silver, New Black and others coming soon. Illusion Sunset is particularly unique in that it is the first phone from LG to utilize a customized optical pattern repeated in intervals of less than one micron, or one-hundredth the width of a human hair. This pattern is covered in a special film created with nano-stacked lamination technology to reflect and refract light for a shimmering effect.

“We think today’s smartphone customers want and deserve more than cookie-cutter designs and tried-and-true features,” said Johan Chung, executive vice president of overseas sales and marketing at the LG Mobile Communications Company. “In LG VELVET, we’ve created a differentiated smartphone with a design that can’t be confused for anything else and features with unique propositions that provide considerable value. We’re confident in the message LG VELVET communicates and believe that there are customers out there who agree it’s time for a change in the way smartphones are developed and marketed.”

LG’S IMMENSE LED DIGITAL SIGNAGE PROJECT IS TURNING HEADS IN BUSY GANGNAM

LG’s customized high-definition LED digital signage display in Seoul’s busy Gangnam district

Whether at home, in a shopping mall or out on the street, big screens always attract a lot of attention. A prime example of this comes from LG Electronics’ Business Solutions Company, which recently installed its new extra-large, high-definition LED digital signage on one of Seoul’s most bustling streets in Gangnam.

A high view looking straight down Gangnam district’s iconic Teheran-ro street

Running through the center of the iconic district, Teheran-ro (“ro” meaning “street” in Korean) is often referred to as the local version of Times Square due to the abundance of state-of-the-art screens displaying advertisements of every brand imaginable. Designated as a free outdoor advertisement zone by the government, the street acts as something of a public arena where major entertainment houses, clothing brands and corporations vie for the attention of the estimated 100,000 pedestrians who traverse its sidewalks every day of the week.

LG’s eye-catching LED digital signage solution is hard to miss. Two strikingly vibrant 10,000 nit displays – 21.8 meters tall by 12 meters wide – are embedded in a structure that measures an imposing 26 meters in height. The custom-built dual-sided display featuring pixels only 8.3mm apart is located in front of the one of the most well-known landmarks on Teheran-ro, the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas Hotel.

LG’s customized sign under construction

LG’s customized sign is a freestanding double-sided billboard, a rarity even in a city as fast to adopt new technology as Seoul. LG oversaw the entire project from start to finish, including the design and construction of the entire structure. And consistent with LG’s many other display products such as TVs, monitors and laptops, LG’s Gangnam LED digital signage features  extremely small bezels so that passersbys see only the stunning images displayed on the screen.

With the company’s outstanding display technology in the heart of famous Gangnam, LG’s immense commercial signage project is definitely hard to miss and hard to take one’s eyes off of.

COOK FAST, EAT WELL

The banner of the Micro Sobrevivencia YouTube channel

Like many trends that were once popular, cooking at home is making a big resurgence worldwide, but with today’s busy lifestyles, spending hours preparing meals is beyond the reach of many. Although LG offers advanced microwave ovens that make it quick and easy to prepare delicious and healthy dishes, the fact is that many consumers think a microwave is only to heat food, not to cook with.

Filipe Nascimento, the star and founder of Micro Sobrevivência, smiles for the camera in his kitchen

To educate and demonstrate that microwaves can do far more than just reheat or defrost food, LG Brazil teamed up with Micro Sobrevivência, a YouTube channel dedicated entirely to microwave cooking, LG Brazil produced a series of videos called “Eat well, eat at home,” created to teach people how to cook tasty, high-quality food in their own kitchens using just a microwave.

Filipe Nascimento poses with the LG EasyClean microwave oven

In each episode, chef Filipe Nascimento, the star and founder of Micro Sobrevivência, uses the LG EasyClean microwave oven as he takes viewers through a different recipe – each one made, incidentally, with ingredients kept perfectly fresh in his LG top-freezer refrigerator.

For this year’s Easter celebrations, Nascimento shared two mouth-watering recipes. First, a main course consisting of the simple yet scrumptious pairing of fish and fresh vegetables, and for dessert, a chocolate Easter egg featuring paçoca, a popular peanut candy from Brazil. Then, for Mother’s Day, the chef cooked up his own personal take on Paella – a rice-based dish originating from Spain’s Valencia province – in only 20 minutes.

Enabling viewers to recreate a fine-dining experience at home, LG Brazil and chef Nascimento selected a restaurant-quality dish combining fettuccine and shrimp. After a little prep and just 15 minutes in the LG EasyClean microwave – the ultra-fast cooking time made possible by the Quartz Grill – the food was cooked to perfection and ready to be enjoyed.

To mark National Coffee Day in Brazil (May 24), Filipe Nascimento revealed how to effortlessly fashion a dessert that is best enjoyed with a good cup (or two) of coffee, arguably Brazil’s national drink. Requiring only a little mixing, five minutes in LG’s microwave (compared to 90 minutes in a conventional oven) and then a few hours to chill in the fridge, the delectable cappuccino pudding is a yummy treat when eaten by itself, but tastes even better when complemented by a fresh brew made with freshly-ground beans.

A hamburger recipe listing every ingredient needed for the cook-along video

For the last video in the series, LG Brazil and Micro Sobrevivência celebrated World Burger Day with some easy, microwave-friendly burger recipes that are fun for parents and kids to make together.

Filipe Nascimento smiles and gives a thumbs up with the burger he just made

With the help of Filipe Nascimento, LG Brazil demonstrated the incredible culinary possibilities that can be quickly cooked up right in one’s home, no matter how busy one’s schedule. All that’s needed is 15-20 minutes to spare, the right ingredients and an efficient, reliable kitchen companion like the LG EasyClean microwave oven. And with less time preparing, there’s more time for savoring the food, the company and a life made easier.

Bom apetite!
