AUSTIN, Texas, Mar. 8, 2019 — Engaging with thought leaders, tastemakers and tech mavens at South by Southwest® (SXSW®) for the first time, global lifestyle innovator LG Electronics (LG) is offering festivalgoers a sneak peek at future product concepts being developed to transform the way we live.

The LG Inspiration Gallery – open March 8 for 5 days in the heart of the SXSW action near the Austin Convention Center – will feature innovative LG technologies, ranging from a series of new AI robots and unique smart lighting solutions to the company’s first connected ice cream maker. Bringing LG’s “Innovation for a Better Life” mantra to life, the LG Inspiration Gallery also will showcase advanced new products previewed at CES® 2019, including the world’s first rollable TV – LG SIGNATURE OLED TV R – and the new LG HomeBrew capsule-based craft beer maker.

On the opening day, the LG Inspiration Gallery will host a roundtable discussion on the customer benefits of open innovation. Featured speakers include Chul B. Lee, senior vice president and the head of the LG New Business Center, T.I. Cho, senior vice president and the head of the LG Convergence Center, and Kim Dong-su, CEO of LG Technology Ventures.

The South by Southwest Conference & Festivals celebrates the convergence of the interactive, film, and music industries. Fostering creative and professional growth, SXSW is billed as “the premier destination for discovery,” making this the ideal venue for LG to preview future innovations, according to Lee.

“South by Southwest, where the creative and technology communities converge, is like a giant focus group testbed for new products ideas and concepts,” said Lee. “LG’s participation at SXSW is the embodiment of our ambition for open innovation and our drive to continue breaking new ground,” he said.

Through anthropological and psychological research on trends, human behaviors and cultural codes from all over the world – conducted by an affiliated, independent multidisciplinary lab called Life Soft Research – the LG NBC exemplifies the company’s principles of open innovation, with designs strongly reflecting the opinions of employees and customers. LG HomeBrew, the innovative capsule-based device that allows consumers to create their own homemade craft beer, is an example of technology stemming from the in-depth work undertaken at LG NBC.

New Concept Robots and More

At SXSW, LG is showcasing the latest additions to its AI robot line, LG CLOi. The concept models illustrate the company’s wide-ranging efforts to develop robots that are capable of communicating and identifying with users.

Five new LG CLOi concepts are being shown for the first time with robots that recognize your emotional state and can express a variety of feelings including the four major emotions (joy, peace, sadness and anger); robots that recognize space, objects and can communicate with users; robots with new interfaces that simplify the smart home’s IoT hub; and robots that act as playmates for pets and children, and keep an eye on the home.

LG will also be displaying a prototype personal ice cream maker, snowwhite. Using specialized capsules that create delicious flavors and creamy textures, anyone will be able to make frozen delights to satisfy various preferences – from traditional ice creams to sorbets to gelatos, even frozen yogurts.

Unique Technologies

Catering to the SXSW creative community is a new audience-interaction concept for performances known as the fantastick. Revealed for the first time in the LG Inspiration Gallery, this unique Smart Lighting System concept helps create an emotional connection between the performers and the audience. Using the fantastick, the audience will become more than passive spectators and participate in performance art in new ways.

A wall clock named TIME + SPACE that not only tells the time but also provides useful information regarding weather updates and scheduling information, along with stunning earring-shaped wireless earphones, shine, which deliver excellent sound and can be worn as jewelry, are just some of the extraordinary technologies that LG will be showcasing.

Finally, a must-see highlight of the LG Inspiration Gallery is the LG SIGNATURE OLED TV R, the world’s first rollable TV – with a razor-thin 65-inch 4K Ultra HD flexible display that resembles a minimalist sculpture when hidden in the low-profile console cabinet in Zero View mode then magically rises to deliver a large-screen home cinema experience in Full View mode. The “R” in the new LG SIGNATURE OLED TV R is about creating a revolution in home entertainment and redefining space through its ability to rise and roll-up at the touch of a button. LG’s game-changing rollable OLED TV was most-awarded TV from CES 2019.

LG KICKS OFF GLOBAL ROLLOUT OF 2019 TV LINEUP

New OLED TVs with Deep Learning Technology Boosts Company’s Premium TV LeadershipA front view of LG OLED TV model W9.

SEOUL, Mar. 6, 2019 — LG Electronics (LG) announced today that its 2019 premium TV lineup featuring advanced OLED and NanoCell TVs will begin rolling out this week. This year, OLED models will make up 20 percent of the company’s high-end TV portfolio and with demand for OLED TVs expected to grow to 3.6 million units this year, 7 million units in 2020 and 10 million in 2021, LG expects to extend its leadership in the premium TV segment. Customers in South Korea and the United States will be the first to be able to take home a 2019 LG TV starting this month with availability in key markets of Asia, Europe and South America to follow soon thereafter. Specific pricing and model availability dates in each region will be announced separately.

Featuring a wider range of screen sizes up to 86 inches, this year’s OLED and NanoCell LCD TVs from LG will offer upgraded AI picture and sound quality thanks to the company’s advanced second generation α (Alpha) 9 Gen 2 intelligent processor and deep learning technology. New LG TVs will receive an upgrade mid-year to support Apple AirPlay 2 and Apple HomeKit for easy streaming of video and audio content and connectivity to Apple’s smart home products. 2019 LG TV owners can also expect to receive a firmware update that will add Amazon Alexa support to complement Google Assistant which is included out of the box, making LG the only TV brand to provide support for both leading AI platforms without the need for additional hardware.

The α9 Gen 2 processor in LG’s W, E and C series of OLED TVs elevates picture and sound quality with deep learning technology and access to an extensive database of visual information. This allows the processor to optimize the images by recognizing source quality and implementing the best algorithm to display a stunningly real image. The processor also analyzes ambient conditions to achieve the optimal level of screen brightness.

LG’s 2019 home entertainment lineup is led by its industry leading OLED TVs in a variety of screen sizes: W9 (model 77/65W9), E9 (model 65/55E9), C9 (model 77/65/55C9) and B9 (model 65/55B9). The world’s first 8K OLED TV (model 88Z9) expands LG’s premium TV portfolio while NanoCell, the company’s most advanced LED TV offering, will deliver stellar picture quality, vibrant images, accurate colors and wider viewing angles all in a sleek package with ultra-thin bezels and in more large-screen options this year than ever before. Select 2019 OLED and NanoCell models support HDMI 2.1 for the viewing of 4K content at a fast 120 frames per second as well as offering 4K high frame rate (4K HFR), automatic low latency mode (ALLM), variable refresh rate (VRR) and enhanced audio return channel (eARC).

Moreover, 2019 TVs from LG intelligently adjust content compatible with Dolby Vision to ensure an outstanding HDR experience, even in brightly lit conditions. The α9 Gen 2 also fine-tunes audio according to content type, making movie and TV dialogue easier to understand and delivering crisp, clear vocals in songs. While the AI can adjust audio settings to ideal levels based on the environment, users can also make manual adjustments if they wish. LG’s flagship TVs again feature Dolby Vision for an outstanding HDR experience and Dolby Atmos for realistic, immersive audio.

LG’s NanoCell range for 2019 comprises fourteen AI-enabled models, available in sizes varying from 49 to 86 inches.* Other LG TV models in the lineup for this year include the 8K OLED TV (model 88Z9) and the one-of-a-kind rollable LG SIGNATURE OLED TV R (model 65R9) which wowed audiences at CES earlier this year.

“LG continues to push the boundaries of TV technological innovation, as can clearly be seen from our premium TV lineup for 2019,” said Brian Kwon, president of Mobile Communications and Home Entertainment companies. “LG’s advanced AI technologies to improve picture and sound enrich and expand the viewing experience.”

LG UNVEILS TWO GROUNDBREAKING SMARTPHONES AT MWC TO USHER IN NEW ERA OF MOBILITY

LG V50ThinQ 5G Brings Blazing Fast 5G Experience to Consumers While
LG G8ThinQ Elevates Smartphone Fundamentals and Introduces Advanced Biometrics The front view of the LG V50 ThinQ 5G connected to the LG Dual Screen, with the Asphalt 9 Legends game on the top and LG Game Pad on the bottom, next to the LG G8 ThinQ

BARCELONA, Feb. 24, 2019 — LG Electronics (LG) is capturing the imaginations of consumers the world over at Mobile World Congress 2019 with the simultaneous unveiling of its newest G and V series flagship smartphones. At the Center de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona (CCIB) in Barcelona, LG introduced its first 5G phone, LG V50ThinQ 5G, alongside the new LG G8ThinQ for a double dose of excitement.

The Perfect Smartphone for the 5G Era

Giving consumers the ability to enjoy all 5G has to offer as soon as service becomes available, the groundbreaking LG V50ThinQ 5G has been carefully crafted to provide an exceptional user experience. LG’s first 5G handset will exceed expectations, offering uncompromising reliability and allowing users to experience high-quality content at 5G speeds, expected to deliver up to 20 times the speed of 4G.

LG has gone all out to boost the display and audio performance of LG V50ThinQ 5G. A 6.4-inch QHD+ OLED FullVision Display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio offers users a heightened sense of immersion whether they’re viewing a video or enjoying a game.

Audio has been upgraded to produce a superb stereo performance that can be enjoyed with or without headphones. With DTS:X technology onboard, LG V50ThinQ 5G allows users to experience surround sound that enhances the quality of any content to create a realistic soundscape with amazing clarity and depth. The phone also supports Qualcomm® aptX™ and aptX HD audio technology for premium Bluetooth audio quality and low latency ideal for immersive listening experiences over headphones or earbuds.

LG’s 5G smartphone features optical innovations that enable users to take extraordinary pictures and videos of the highest quality. Looking beyond still images, LG implemented Video Depth Control in both the front and rear cameras to ensure that moving subjects remain in focus. By analyzing distance and depth with Dual FOV technology, users can capture exactly what they see making it possible to produce videos that look incredibly polished and professional.

LG’s first 5G device is powered by the newest Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 855 Mobile Platform with the Snapdragon X50 5G modem and LG’s optimized software to deliver the advanced processing power required for 5G. The phone is also equipped with a 4,000mAh battery, 20 percent larger than in the V40ThinQ, and a new Vapor Chamber heat-dissipation system which is more effective than conventional heat pipes to keep internal temperatures low and support sustained apps processing performance even when multitasking.

Inheriting the V series’ thin, stylish design, the LG V50ThinQ 5G is only 8.3 millimeters in thickness and weighs only 183 grams. To maintain its sleek profile with uninterrupted lines, the rear lens housing on the new V smartphone are completely flush with the back of the phone. All this is achieved without sacrificing the durability of the LG V50ThinQ 5G, which continues to comply with 14 U.S. military MIL-STD 810G standards.

In preparation of the rollout of its first 5G phone, LG is partnering with 10 major carriers in markets where 5G service will be launched this year, including the United States, South Korea, Australia as well as a number of European countries.

Dual Screens for Richer 5G Experience

To take user immersion and convenience to new heights with its first 5G smartphone, LG developed Dual Screen as an optional accessory for the LG V50ThinQ 5G. Designed to resemble a cover case, Dual Screen opens up to give LG V50ThinQ 5G owners a second 6.2-inch OLED display for double the viewing, gaming and multitasking experience. The Dual Screen display and the LG V50ThinQ 5G can be used independently, allowing for many interesting usage scenarios. For example, users can watch a movie on one screen while simultaneously searching IMDB on the other.

With Dual Screen attached, an icon appears on the display of the LG V50ThinQ 5G which can be tapped to power on the second display or switch effortlessly between the two screens. A multi-window feature divides each screen in two, making it possible to display and use multiple applications at the same time. In select games, the Dual Screen can be used as a dedicated controller, resolving the age old problem of thumbs getting in the way of the action. The Dual Screen can be positioned in two convenient angles – 104 and 180 degrees – and because it runs off the phone’s battery, there’s no need to charge it separately.

A Fresh Mobile Experience

LG G8ThinQ carries on the tradition of offering consumers worldwide a palette of convenience-enhancing features with a focus on delivering advanced optics and audio capabilities. What’s more, the subtle, understated design philosophy that discards all nonessential design elements gives the LG G8ThinQ an undeniably stylish appearance. Flawless aesthetics are not limited to the front of the device as its zero-protrusion rear camera creates a satisfyingly smooth surface. Crystal Sound OLED, an audio advancement that uses the smartphone’s display as a speaker diaphragm, eliminates the need for a front speaker, adding to the minimalist aesthetic.

LG G8ThinQ is the world’s first smartphone with advanced palm vein authentication, made possible by the combination of the ToF Z Camera and infrared sensors. More secure than fingerprint recognition technology, LG’s Hand ID identifies owners by recognizing the shape, thickness and other individual characteristics of the veins in the palms of their hands. Simply placing a pre-registered hand in front of the front-facing camera for a split second is all it takes to unlock the LG G8ThinQ and all its content.

The advanced Z Camera comes into play again when capturing eye-catching selfies in portrait mode. Z Camera measures infrared rays reflected off subjects to calculate depth faster and more accurately than other image sensors, making exciting features such as Face Unlock possible. Because Z Camera sees objects in 3D, Face Unlock is impossible to fool with two dimensional images of a face as photographs have no depth. What’s more, ToF technology in LG’s Z Camera isn’t affected by ambient light so accuracy is unaffected by light from external sources. With multiple forms of biometric authentication, LG is delivering more options for smartphone security than any other smartphone manufacturer, allowing consumers to choose which option is more convenient for them given the circumstance.

The Z Camera is also implemented to advance the user experience with Air Motion. Without touching the phone – useful especially when driving – users can answer or end calls, take screenshots, switch between applications or adjust the volume. Controlling the LG G8ThinQ is as simple as waving a hand or pinching the air, increasing convenience for active consumers when wearing gloves or swimming.

Unlike existing cameras capable of distinguishing only the subject and the background, the front-facing camera in the LG G8ThinQ measures the distance between the subject and the camera in millimeters to control the intensity of the background blur up to 256 levels for selfies with more depth. With an image sensor of 1.22μm (approximately 10 percent larger than in the LG V40ThinQ), the LG G8ThinQ can produce a much cleaner image that is also even faster with Auto Focus.

Video Portrait makes its debut on the LG G8ThinQ, giving users control of bokeh while filming video in Portrait Mode with the rear camera. By analyzing distance and depth with Dual FOV technology, users can capture exactly what they see making it possible to produce videos that look incredibly polished and professional.

Beyond optics, LG G8ThinQ excels when it comes to multimedia performance as the first G series device from LG to feature OLED display technology. The large QHD+ FullVision Display measures 6.1-inches with 564 pixels per inch, allowing for an incredible amount of detail.

High-end sound comes standard with LG smartphones and the LG G8ThinQ is no exception, with the bass-loving Boombox Speaker now capable of stereo output. Realistic surround sound is made possible with DTS:X, while a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC delivers unmatched sound details. LG G8ThinQ also supports Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) technology, allowing for compressed high-resolution audio streaming without compromising sound quality. Tuned in collaboration with Meridian Audio, LG G8ThinQ is a worthy addition to LG’s legacy of audio excellence.

G Series Option for Everyone Else

Another member of LG’s G family will be available in the months following MWC for markets seeking something unique in a package that offers a premium fit and finish without sacrificing performance or the premium essentials that make the LG G8ThinQ so special. The LG G8SThinQ features Qualcomm’s fast Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform mated to a vibrant 6.2-inch OLED display powered by a robust 3,350mAh battery. Three rear-facing cameras, dedicated night shot mode and low-light HDR technology makes this device a content creation powerhouse while Z Camera allows for enhanced security with Hand ID and Face Unlock. Air Motion, precise depth-of-field and stereo speakers round out the package that is bound to appeal to customers looking for a G8 experience at a competitive price.

MWC 2019 attendees are encouraged to visit LG’s booth in Hall 3 of Fira Gran Via from February 25-28 for more information on LG’s newest smartphones as well as other exciting mobile innovations.

DESIGNED WITH SOLID FUNDAMENTALS, NEW LG Q AND K SERIES ARE DESIGNED TO IMPRESS

Advanced User Experience and Exceptional Price
Make These New Smartphones Easy to Love The front and rear view of the LG Q60 in New Moroccan Blue, the LG K50 in New Platinum Gray and LG K40 in New Moroccan Blue

SEOUL, Feb. 20, 2019 — At MWC 2019, LG Electronics (LG) will reveal three new consumer-friendly smartphones designed for those seeking advanced mobile devices without compromising usability. The LG Q60, LG K50 and LG K40 boast premium features, advanced technologies and stylish design, all without breaking the bank.

Redefining Usability

With these new mid-range beauties, LG is offering large, high-quality displays and AI-powered functionality to consumers who traditionally had to settle for less. Each device features LG’s HD+ FullVision displays – 6.26-inch for the LG Q60 and LG K50 and 5.7-inch in the LG K40. The front-facing camera in the LG Q60 and LG K50 is located in a water drop cutout to make maximum use of the FullVision display for comfortable viewing, playing and communicating while slim bezels make all three phones comfortable to hold and use one-handed.

To ensure superior user experience, the LG Q60, LG K50 and LG K40 all feature AI functions typically found in flagship smartphones. AI CAM magically recognizes objects it sees and recommends the ideal shooting mode for the best results. And a dedicated Google Assistant button gives users immediate access to the most widely-used virtual assistant on smartphones today.

Advanced Audio with DTS:X

With DTS:X 3D Surround Sound delivered through quality earphones, all three devices are sure to please even diehard audio aficionados. This high-end audio technology convincingly simulates a 7.1-channel surround sound system to make any content more immersive when playing games, streaming movies or enjoying today’s top hits.

Solid Fundamentals and More

To maximize everyday usability of the Q and K series, LG engineers focused on maximizing the two basics features that today’s smartphone customers covet the most: battery life and camera performance.

In addition to its impressive 13MP front camera, the LG Q60 sports three rear cameras: 16MP with Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF), 5MP with Super Wide Angle and a 2MP shooter with Depth Sensor that captures a sharp image of the subject while leaving the background blurred. With four unique lenses at their disposal, Q60 owners can take perfect shots every time, no matter how challenging the subject or the environment.

Both the LG Q60 and LG K50 are powered by a 3,500mAh battery for longer sessions of news reading, gaming or content streaming. At 3,000mAh, the battery in the smaller LG K40 is more than robust enough to provide a full day of use between charges.

Visitors to LG’s booth at MWC from February 25-28 can experience the new Q and K series smartphones along with other exciting mobile innovations for themselves.

LG CONTINUES TO PUSH BOUNDARIES OF EXCEPTIONAL SMARTPHONE AUDIO WITH NEW G SERIES

With Crystal Sound OLED and Meridian Audio Technology,
LG G8 ThinQ Delivers Premium Sound in Any EnvironmentA graphic showing off the new Crystal Sound OLED, which will be included in the LG G8 ThinQ

SEOUL, Feb. 14, 2019 — At MWC 2019, LG Electronics (LG) will remind audiences of its reputation and history as a leader in smartphone sound with the new LG G8 ThinQ  featuring Crystal Sound OLED (CSO), an innovative technology that utilizes the phone’s OLED display as an audio amplifier.

With more and more consumers using smartphones as their primary devices for watching movies, playing games and consuming music, the demand for mobile phones capable of delivering high-quality audio is higher than ever. LG has always recognized the importance of high quality smartphone audio in creating the ultimate user experience and this belief continues with the LG G8 ThinQ.

Developed in-house by LG, CSO repurposes the OLED display as a diaphragm, vibrating the entire surface to produce sound with impressive volume. And because LG’s unique technology takes advantage of the entire display, CSO also improves clarity, making voices easier to discern and subtle musical notes more noticeable.

In speakerphone mode, audio is delivered with impressive bass through the bottom speaker. Full-bodied stereo performance is possible with a 2-channel audio setup utilizing this bottom speaker and the top part of the display. As well as improving the sound, CSO also gives the LG G8 ThinQ a clean, minimalist look.

By working closely with audio partner Meridian, LG again brings exceptional sound fidelity to the mobile experience, delivering fine-tuned audio quality that consumers have come to expect from the company’s premium handsets. What’s more, LG’s newest G series phone features:

  • DTS:X 3D Surround Sound that emulates a 7.1-channel system with or without earphones, a first for LG
  • Hi-Fi Quad DAC that elevates the listening experience by reproducing sound with exceptional fidelity and the added ability to up-sample most audio files for increased clarity and depth
  • Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) that supports high-quality audio streaming even without an unlimited data plan
  • Boombox Speaker that takes advantage of the internal space of the phone as a resonance chamber to generate amazing bass and more volume

“Our commitment to driving smartphone audio to new heights is on clear display in LG G8 ThinQ,” said Chang Ma, senior vice president and head of product strategy at LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “By developing new technologies as well as working closely in partnership with the audio industry’s best partners, LG will continue to deliver the quality of sound that consumers demand and deserve.”

Visitors to MWC in Barcelona are encouraged to visit the LG booth from February 25-28 to experience Crystal Sound OLED and the LG G8 ThinQ along with many other mobile innovations.

LG AND INFINEON TO INTRODUCE LG G8 THINQ WITH FRONT-FACING TIME-OF-FLIGHT CAMERA

With Infineon’s REAL3TM Image Sensor Chip,
LG Offers Enhanced Security and Depth Measuring Selfie CameraA graphic showing the parts that make up Infineon’s REAL3™ Image Sensor Chip, which will be included in the LG G8 ThinQ

SEOUL, KOREA, AND MUNICH, GERMANY, Feb. 7, 2019 — LG Electronics and Infineon Technologies AG have teamed up to introduce leading edge Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology to smartphone selfie photo lovers world over.

Infineon’s REAL3TM image sensor chip will play a key role in the front-facing camera of the upcoming LG G8 ThinQ, to be unveiled in Barcelona during Mobile World Congress 2019. Building upon the combined expertise of Infineon and pmdtechnologies in algorithms for processed 3D point clouds (a set of data points in space produced by 3D scanning), the innovative sensor will deliver a new level of front camera capability in a smartphone.

While other 3D technologies utilize complex algorithms to calculate an object’s distance from the camera lens, the ToF image sensor chip delivers more accurate measurements by capturing infrared light as it is reflected off the subject. As a result, ToF is faster and more effective in ambient light, reducing the workload on the application processor thereby also reducing power consumption.

And due to its fast response speed, ToF technology is widely used in various biometric authentication methods, such as face-recognition. What’s more, because ToF sees objects in 3D and is not affected by light from external sources, it delivers an excellent recognition rate, both indoors and out, ideal for implementation in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) applications.

The world’s leading manufacturer of power semiconductors, Infineon is also recognized for its technological excellence in sensor solutions. The German chip maker enables highly reliable automotive, power management and digital security applications. The company developed the ToF technology featured in the LG G8 ThinQ for use in both premium, high-end smartphones as well as mid-end devices.

“Infineon is poised to revolutionize the market,” said Andreas Urschitz, division president of Infineon’s Power Management & Multimarket division. “We have demonstrated service beyond the mere product level – specifically catering to phone OEMs, associated reference design houses and camera module manufacturers. Within five years, we expect 3D cameras to be found in most smartphones and Infineon will contribute a significant share.”

“Keeping in mind LG’s goal to provide real value to its mobile customers, our newest flagship was designed with ToF technology from inception to give users a unique and secure verification system without sacrificing camera capabilities,” said Chang Ma, senior vice president and head of Product Strategy at LG Mobile Communications Company. “The LG G8 ThinQ featuring ToF will be the optimal choice for users in search of a premium smartphone that offers unmatched camera capabilities.”

LG SHOWCASES ITS SUPERIOR INFORMATION DISPLAY SOLUTIONS AT ISE 2019

With a Range of Innovative OLED to LED Solutions,
LG’s B2B Technology Takes Center Stage

A panorama view of LG’s booth at ISE 2019.

AMSTERDAM, Feb. 5, 2019 — LG Electronics (LG) is showcasing its advanced information display technology at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2019 held in Amsterdam, Netherlands from February 5 to 8. From Transparent OLED Signage to a full lineup of LED products, LG can transform any space into awe-inspiring, fully functional digital environments and deliver innovative business solutions tailored to customers’ needs.

Making its European debut is the one-of-a kind LG OLED Falls display that will welcome visitors at the main entrance of LG’s booth is made possible by 88 flexible Open Frame OLED displays. The signage features displays that curve up to 1,000R for wrapping around various surfaces, perfect for business-to-business applications that require a truly customizable approach. The video demo of a forest, glacier, waterfall, blizzard and others, is a one-of-a-kind experience of natural wonders.

Beyond the OLED Falls exhibit, visitors will experience LG’s unique Transparent OLED Signage, a state-of-the-art product that seems more science fiction than reality. Designed for both retail and gallery environments, actual products can be clearly seen behind the 38 percent transparent display while video or images are shown overlaid in front of the object. The Transparent OLED Signage’s open frame design can be tiled, making it perfect for large spaces where customer interaction can seal the deal, such as in an automotive showroom.

LG’s fine-pitch LAPE series of LED displays separates the power module from the screen, resulting in an ultra-thin profile for a more streamlined installation. The smaller, lightweight LDM (LED Display Module) allows for easier installation – both mounting and hanging – with support for true concave and convex curvature up to 1,000R. With a compact pixel pitch of 1.5 to 2.5mm and brightness of up to 1,000 nits, LG’s LAPE series delivers vivid picture quality in every indoor environment, from retail malls to conference halls.

The LAA series bezel-less 130-inch Meeting Room LED Screen with 1.5mm pixel pitch was designed for mid- to large-sized conference rooms. The embedded audio system allows users to communicate and share images without the need for external speakers. With optional software, this display solution is designed to be compatible with Crestron room control system.

LG’s Color Transparent LED Film is a large-size solution that can be applied to any-sized glass surface to transform it magically into actual digital signage. With a maximum transparency of 73 percent, the glass retains its original properties with the film being unnoticeable when not in use. The film itself is self-adhesive and can be removed easily with no sticky residue. Delivering a wide range of colors at 24mm pitch while still maintaining high transparency, this unique solution is suitable for displaying everything from brand logos to full-color videos.

At ISE 2019 LG is also exhibiting a groundbreaking .44mm Even Bezel Video Wall that delivers vivid, dynamic images with consistent color uniformity for higher and wider viewing angles without distortion. And LG’s proprietary webOS 3.0 operating system makes it extremely easy to maintain and create content. This display solution is optimized for control rooms and venues that require multi-screen setups such as shopping malls and lecture halls.

LG’s new 86-inch 4K Interactive Digital Board with active pen boasts IPS In-cell Touch technology with a sleek 29mm bezel design that employs an innovative direct bonding process to eliminate the gap between the LCD panel and protective glass. This combination delivers a faster response time for a realistic writing experience that is perfect for university lecture halls and corporate conference rooms.

Also coming to ISE will be LG’s IP-rated outdoor signage products. Model 55XE4F is waterproof and protected from dust while also being approximately 64 percent lighter and 37 percent thinner than the previous 55-inch model. This allows the display to be installed almost anywhere, such as on a wall, ceiling or stand. What’s more, the tempered front glass features a shatterproof film to prevent serious injuries even when subject to a strong impact.

“The next-generation signage technologies that we are exhibiting at this year’s ISE are without a doubt some of the most forward-thinking innovations in the industry today,” said Lee Choong-hwoan, head of the Information Display business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “The unique technology featured in LG’s OLED and LED signage products allows us deliver ultimate solutions to customers in various industries.”

LG’s leading edge business solutions will be on display in Hall 12 (Stand 12-K90) of RAI Amsterdam from February 5-8.

LG Announces 2018 Financial Results

Highest Annual Profit for Home Appliance and
Home Entertainment Businesses in LG History

A picture of LG Twin Towers in the daytime

SEOUL, Jan. 31, 2019 — LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced record full-year revenues of KRW 61.3 trillion (USD 54.4 billion) in 2018, exceeding sales of 60 trillion won for the second year in a row. Full-year profit of KRW 2.70 trillion (USD 2.40 billion) increased nearly 10 percent from 2017 reflecting record profitability from appliances and home entertainment products.

Fourth-quarter 2018 revenues of KRW 15.77 trillion (USD 13.99 billion) were higher than the third quarter but 7 percent lower than the last quarter of 2017 primarily due to lower sales of mobile products. As a result, fourth-quarter operating income declined to KRW 75.7 billion (USD 67.1 million).

The LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company reported full-year 2018 revenues of KRW 19.36 trillion (USD 17.17 billion), an increase of nearly 5 percent from the previous year, generating a profit of KRW 1.52 trillion (USD 1.35 billion), the highest in company history. Fourth-quarter revenues of 4.33 trillion (USD 3.84 billion) increased more than 3 percent from the same period last year with sales in Asia and Europe holding steady despite exchange rate challenges in Central and South America and political uncertainty in the Middle East. LG’s strongest performing unit in 2018 is expected to again lead the company this year with strong demand for premium products and consistent growth in South Korea while working to mitigate international trade and exchange rate risks overseas.

The LG Home Entertainment Company recorded full-year revenues of KRW 16.21 trillion (USD 14.37 billion) with a record-high profit of KRW 1.52 trillion (USD 1.35 billion) thanks to the strengths of LG’s premium product lineup. Fourth-quarter 2018 sales of KRW 4.56 trillion (USD 4.04 billion) were 6 percent lower from the previous year but 23 percent higher than the previous quarter due in large part to strong seasonal demand. Going forward, LG intends to grow both revenue and operating profit by focusing on increasing sales of premium OLED TVs and large-screen Ultra HD TVs.

The LG Mobile Communications Company reported 2018 revenues of KRW 7.98 trillion (USD 7.08 billion) with sales in the fourth quarter totaling KRW 1.71 trillion (USD 1.51 billion), a decrease of 16 percent from the third quarter. Although the full-year operating loss increased to KRW 790.1 billion (USD 700.65 million), the mobile division’s business structure showed improvement as a result of better material cost controls and overhead efficiencies based on the company’s platform modularization strategy. In 2019, LG’s mobile division will push 5G products and smartphones featuring different form factors while focusing on key markets where the LG brand remains strong.

The LG Vehicle Components Company reported solid full-year 2018 revenues of KRW 4.29 trillion (USD 3.80 billion), a 28 percent increase from 2017. Quarterly revenues of KRW 1.4 trillion (USD 1.24 billion), the highest performing quarter in the division’s history, were 71 percent higher than the same period last year and nearly 20 percent more than the third quarter largely due to new infotainment orders and strong performance from the ZKW business in Europe. Uncertainties in the vehicle component market related primarily to international trade issues are expected to contribute to flatter growth in the industry in the months ahead.

The LG Business Solutions Company, recorded full-year 2018 revenues of KRW 2.41 trillion (USD 2.13 billion) with profit of KRW 167.8 billion (USD 148.8 million). The business unit recorded revenues of KRW 597.8 billion (USD 530.1 million) in the fourth quarter – down 11 percent from the same period the year before while up 4 percent from the previous quarter. Fourth-quarter operating profit of KRW 14.9 billion (USD 13.2 million) was impacted by increased investments, the effects of import tariffs and the continuing price depreciation of solar panels, which offset cost improvements. Despite this, LG plans to increase profitability in the business unit by diversifying target markets for its solar business, maximizing the operation of its U.S. solar factory and targeting new growth areas for its information display business.

In Pursuit of Fresh Air

An alarming report from the World Health Organization (WHO) recently stated that 90 percent of people worldwide are breathing polluted air. As air quality declines, the risk of stroke, heart disease, lung cancer, and chronic and acute respiratory diseases, including asthma, increases for people living in the worst affected cities.

An infographic explaining geographical estimations from the World Health Organization regarding levels of air pollutionData Source: Air pollution – the silent killer (https://bit.ly/2Us08ZM)

Most agree that to curb global warming, we all need to enact a variety of measures such as driving less and taking fewer flights, while increasing recycling and conservation efforts to reduce our carbon print – the amount of carbon dioxide a person is responsible for putting into the atmosphere. Generally, any man-made substance introduced into the atmosphere can be considered a pollutant.

We have to not only protect our environment but also take care of our well-being and that of our loved ones. Hence, it is very important to invest in good air purifying products that filter out the toxins that breeze into our homes, thereby making the air more breathable and preserving our health. While people can wear an air filter mask when outside the home, it is wise to choose a high-quality air purifier for indoor space, one that’s certified for its ability to remove fine dust, particles and other harmful matter.

Air purifiers from LG’s air solutions can help consumers improve the indoor air quality if they choose to invest in a good and effective appliance. Especially for those having asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) or allergic reactions, the effective HEPA filters are proven to trap 99.97 percent of extremely small airborne particles and other pollutants.

A woman on the sofa enjoys the enhanced indoor air quality thanks to LG’s DUALCOOL air conditioner, which detects and eliminates tiny airborne particles such as PM1.0.

Helping families establish the optimal indoor living environment, LG has set new standards with its new LG DUALCOOL air conditioner, a device that not only cools and heats effectively and efficiently, but also offers comprehensive air purification. The air purifying technology in LG’s DUALCOOL detects and eliminates particles as small as PM1.0. Its Micro Dust Filter absorbs negatively charged microparticles including germs and bacteria to help keep families safe. DUALCOOL’s Indoor Air Quality Display shows the status of indoor air quality, using six colorful icons that make it easy to see the quality of the air at any time.

Its HEPA filtration system traps 99.97 percent of ultra-fine particulates. In addition to capturing allergens, the deodorization filter removes odors (such as food and smoke), smog and harmful airborne chemicals. Furthermore, the Baby Care feature directs gentle airflow from the base of the PuriCare to create the ideal environment for infants and toddlers.
