LG G8S THINQ COMBINES BEST OF G SERIES WITH FEATURES POPULAR AMONG CUSTOMERS IN GLOBAL MARKETS

Newest Addition to LG’s G Series Lineup Designed to Appeal to
Consumers Seeking a More Bespoke Smartphone Experience People are looking the LG V50 ThinQ 5G, which will be released in Swisscom retail stores

SEOUL, July 2, 2019 — LG Electronics (LG) is bringing the exceptional user experience of the G series to customers in more regions with the introduction of the LG G8SThinQ. The LG G8SThinQ is the perfect choice for consumers seeking a premium smartphone, offering many of the stand-out features and technologies applied to the flagship LG G8ThinQ with unique touches that are popular with target consumers. The latest LTE addition to the G series will be available starting this month in select markets in Europe, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East, among others.

Introduced for the first time on the LG G8ThinQ, the Z Camera utilizes Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor technology to bring LG G8SThinQ users a choice of convenient and secure biometric recognition options. Hand ID uses the Z Camera’s ability to scan a user’s unique circulatory pattern using infrared light making unlocking the phone in the dark just as accurate as during the day. The same technology comes into play in Face Unlock, which is also extremely accurate and fast due to the Z Camera’s use of infrared light and 3D point clouds to accurately trace the contours and features of the face. The third new feature that utilizes Z Camera is Air Motion, a touchless command interface that allow users to perform various actions without touching the screen.

As the first smartphone manufacturer to offer a triple-lens camera setup with a wide angle lens, LG continues this now widely emulated design with the LG G8SThinQ. The improved camera – with the widest field of view to date at 137˚ – allows users to enjoy continuous zoom capability without any lag or color distortion. The exception camera performance of the G8SThinQ was even recognized by VCX-Forum, a Germany-based ratings organization, which ranked the LG device best among the industry’s current smartphones. On the front the device sports a standard lens and the Z Camera, which supports features such as Portrait and Spotlight to help users raise their selfie game. The addition of the Z Camera’s ability to quickly measure distances helps produce portraits with more depth and feel. Spotlight detects the user’s facial curvature and simulates studio lighting to bring a professional quality and dramatic edge to selfies. With Video Depth Control, videos shot on the LG G8SThinQ benefit from a beautiful bokeh effect that puts the subject in sharp focus against a soft, blurred background. And for users tired of shaky video footage, LG G8SThinQ comes ready with Steady Cam which delivers smooth, clear videos without the use of a gimbal.

Equipped with Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 855 Mobile Platform and a vivid 6.2-inch FHD+ FullVision OLED display (2248 x 1080), the LG G8SThinQ is a multimedia powerhouse. The handset also continues LG’s legacy of superior mobile audio, fitted with stereo speakers that deliver a rich, textured performance and immersive surround sound. The LG G8SThinQ continues the company’s tradition of audio excellence with the inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack and DAC.

The design of the LG G8SThinQ is all about the user: the stylish, ergonomic smartphone provides easy one-handed operation and oozes understated elegance, features popular with customers in Europe, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. Complete with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass, it has a polished, seamless finish that is both strong and sophisticated and guarantees a comfortable grip. Standard out of the box are 6G RAM, 128GB storage, MIL-STD 810G compliance and IP68 water and dust resistance. The LG G8SThinQ will be available in three compelling colors: sleek and modern Mirror Black, eye-catching Mirror Teal, and alluring Mirror White.

5G IS THE ERA OF LG

The LG V50ThinQ 5G is off to a flying start. The new 5G smartphone from LG saw an impressive 100,000 units snapped up by eager South Korean early adopters in its first week of availability, quadruple the sales of its predecessor, V40ThinQ. While most customers are interested in the speed benefits of 5G, the phone’s smooth rear glass design and performance enhancement (thanks to improved cooling) certainly adds to its appeal factor.

With the burgeoning success of its first-ever 5G handset, LG is leveraging this opportunity to ensure that consumers world-over recognize and understand the importance of 5G in their lives and the extent to which LG has contributed to this technology.

The original rollout date of the LG V50ThinQ 5G in Korea was delayed for a few days to allow the carriers to work out some early network jitters but this is to be expected for such new tech. With all three South Korean operators offering the LG V50ThinQ 5G with their 5G service launch, consumers have been inundated with a crash course on all things 5G which the local media have helped to disseminate in an effort to make Koreans some of the most 5G-literate consumers in the world.

A bar graph from WISPRO shows LG has the highest number of 5G-related patents registered with the United States Patents and Trademark Office.

The V50ThinQ also made its public debut in the United Kingdom at a London event hosted by carrier EE at the end of May. LG’s 5G phone is now running on the first 5G network in the UK starting in the cities of London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh and Belfast. V50ThinQ is also available in Australia as of earlier this month on the country’s leading mobile operator, Telstra.

The LG V50 ThinQ launch event held in London at the end of May

But LG’s first-move status in 5G shouldn’t be surprising. According to TechIPm, a leading U.S. patent analysis agency, LG maintained a definite edge over its competitors in the 4G (LTE / LTE-A) standard patent category, ranking first in each of the past five years. And according to patent law firm WISPRO, LG looks to be the early leader in 5G patents as well. Through its research, WISPRO found that LG currently has the highest number of 5G-related patents registered with the United States Patents and Trademark Office. With its continuous drive to develop new technologies and meaningful innovations, LG appears well placed to retain its mantle of “patent king” in the 5G era.

A man holds the LG V50 ThinQ out to take a selfie with a woman with the sunset in the background.

“Already with a significant advantage in 5G patents, LG has an excellent opportunity to remind the global smartphone market of the strength of its technology and ability to innovate,” said Park Won-jae, an analyst at Mirae Asset Daewoo.

A woman takes her selfie with the LG V50 ThinQ in Times Square, New York.

LG cemented its name as a leader in 5G with the launch of the LG V50ThinQ 5G in the United States, the world’s largest premium smartphone market where LG has maintained a double-digit share of the smartphone market for the last five years. Launched on May 31, LG V50ThinQ 5G works on Sprint’s 5G network in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and Kansas City with Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix and Washington D.C. to join the network later this year.

How Many Lives Can a Gadget Have?

Icons of electronic devices including smartphone, microwave, washing machine, PC monitor, digital camera and television

Question: What do a smartphone, a laptop and a microwave have in common?

Answer: The last chapter of their lives.

Once obsolete or damaged, these devices are typically confined to a drawer or attic, where they end up dusty and forgotten. But their lives don’t have to end this way – every long-serving device deserves a second chance at life.

But for this to happen, they just need to be recycled correctly and the parts dismantled and dispersed by experts. Despite the large number of recycling centers across the world, very few appliances are reborn and reused, and countless research conducted by reputable global institutions point to a lack of recycling awareness and a significant rise in e-waste in the coming years.

A combined concept image of the recycle icon and an illustration of the globe

Conscious of this reality and concerned about the impact that e-waste has on the lives of every one of us, LG is taking action, driven by the belief that technology can be truly sustainable. LG Electronics continues to invest in a wide range of innovations designed to neutralize some of the major environmental threats and is even changing its manufacturing processes in a concerted effort to curb the production of greenhouse gases.

A concept image of the globe in the palm of a lady’s hand

To help Portugal in its fight against e-waste, LG Electronics Portugal hosted the e-Waste Summit: Sustainable Technology in the Digital Age – Reality and Challenges summit on May 22 in a joint effort with European Recycling Platform (ERP) Portugal, aimed at encouraging Portuguese society to rethink current attitudes and change its behavior toward recycling.

A presenter leads his session at the e-Waste Summit: Sustainable Technology in the Digital Age.

The summit brought together several experts in the field, from academics and environmentalists to business leaders and government decision-makers including the Secretary for the Environment. LG Portugal managing director Mr. Ruy Conde delivered inspiring remarks on the role of companies and the challenges they faced and the introduction of new technologies that will shape the future of recycling. LG Portugal marketing director Mr. Hugo Jorge, Nova University researcher Dr. Graça Martinho and Portuguese Environment Agency president Dr. Nuno Lacasta shared valuable insight and analyses on the topic e-waste.

An image of the panel discussion at the e-Waste Summit: Sustainable Technology in the Digital Age

The e-Waste Summit was organized by LG Portugal as part of its Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy to raise awareness of a very important issue in cooperation with environmental and electronic waste management organizations. The company’s ultimate objective is to create a management system and portfolio that ensure a better environment and future for our planet.

With this initiative and countless others across the world, LG seeks to improve lives within the communities where it operates, making a positive and lasting difference. And in the case of Portugal, LG is also giving mobile phones, laptops and microwaves a much-deserved and much-needed second chance at life.

At InfoComm LG Impresses With New Business Solutions Innovations Led by Micro LED Signage

LG’s B2B Technology Wows Show Attendees with
Wide Range of Innovative OLED to LED Solutions

A model poses with the Micro LED signage.

ORLANDO, Fla., June 12, 2019 — LG Electronics (LG) is showcasing its newest exciting business solutions in Orlando, Florida (USA) this week at InfoComm 2019. From Micro LED Signage, Transparent OLED Signage, Open Frame OLED displays to a diverse lineup of LED products, LG is bringing to the largest professional audiovisual trade show in North America a wide range of commercial display products that is sure to capture the imagination of show attendees.

Welcoming visitors to LG’s sprawling InfoComm booth is the immense LG OLED Falls exhibit that offers a unique, immersive installation of eye-popping Open Frame commercial OLED displays. Open Frame LG OLED displays enable a complete new approach for innovative and flexible digital signage designs. With no separate light source, the displays are extremely thin and lightweight, and flexible enough to be bent.

Making its world debut at InfoComm 2019 is LG’s one-of-a-kind Micro LED Signage in all its colorful glory. Portending the future of digital signage, LG’s Micro LED technology relies on arrays of microscopic LEDs that form individual pixels that work independently to express image detail. At less than 50 micrometers, each LED is about the size of a speck of dust or approximately half the width of a human hair.

LG’s new LAPE series uses a specially designed flexible LED display module that supports true concave and convex curvature up to 1000R for virtually limitless design flexibility. The fine-pitch LAPE series delivers vivid images thanks to the Dynamic Contrast Algorithm, LG-exclusive technology for a wide range of color and deep contrast.

LG’s new 130-inch LED screen is designed to be easy to specify, order and install. Considered the ideal replacement for conference-room projectors, this LAAF series screen features embedded speakers and AV connections to meet a host of business needs. In addition to compatibility with leading partners such as Crestron, the screen will be supported by LG Signage 365Care for real-time device monitoring and diagnostics.

Another crowd pleaser, LG’s Transparent OLED display is designed to offer a unique customer experience in specialized commercial applications, particularly retail and hospitality. The versatile 55-inch class display (model 55EW5F) delivers LG OLED’s superior picture quality, meaning customers will be able to view video on the screen and simultaneously see objects behind the screen.

New to LG’s wide-ranging large-format display portfolio for 2019 are advanced IPS In-cell Touch Interactive Digital Boards (IDBs). The 86-inch model in the LG TN3F series is designed to enhance the user experience in meeting rooms, classrooms and other collaborative spaces with easy and reliable touch performance. These IDBs feature intuitive In-cell Touch technology that employs an innovative direct bonding process to eliminate the gap between the LCD panel and protective glass. This combination delivers a faster response time for a realistic writing experience that is perfect for corporate conference rooms and university lecture halls.

“Advances in B2B technologies are opening up new opportunities for digital signage, exemplified by the diverse OLED and LED portfolio LG is featuring at InfoComm,” said Lee Choong-hwoan, head of the Information Display business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “Our knowledge and expertise in both OLED and LED displays allows us the privilege of being the only company that can deliver this wide collection of signage solutions to our customers.”

In Planet Home, visitors can see how LG’s 77-inch OLED TV – presented for the first time in Brazil – seamlessly connects with the other LG products through ThinQ AI, which gives users the ability to control LG devices using conversational voice commands. Guests can also witness how LG TWINWashTM with TrueSteamTM technology gets clothes hygienically clean and saves time with its ability to wash two loads at once. Thanks to ThinQ AI, it’s easy to select a wash cycle or check on the progress from the TV or use the ThinQ app to “talk” to TWINWash from outside the home with a smartphone.

Highly Anticipated 88-inch 8K OLED TV Offers Breathtaking
Viewing Experience with LG’s Industry-leading OLED Technology

LG 8K OLED TV showing a road in the woods is placed in a spacious room with a spectacular view.

SEOUL, June 3, 2019 — LG Electronics (LG) announced today the start of sales of the world’s first 8K OLED TV (model 88Z9) with pre-orders for the 88-inch set starting this week in South Korea. Availability in key markets of North America and Europe will follow in the third quarter of the year.

As LG’s largest OLED TV to date, the 8K OLED TV is innovation made possible by LG’s unrivaled display technology. This awe inspiring new model highlights the superiority of OLED over conventional LED displays and provides a viewing experience that is second to none. The TV employs an advanced panel with over 33 million self-emitting pixels to deliver LG OLED TV’s iconic picture quality, ensuring the most lifelike colors in a wide viewing angle, an infinite contrast ratio and true blacks. Images are exceptionally sharp on the 88-inch TV thanks to 8K Ultra HD resolution (7,680 x 4,320) equivalent to 16 times the number of pixels in full HD and four times that of UHD.

The superior performance of LG’s 8K OLED panel is enhanced by the company’s second-generation α (Alpha) 9 Gen 2 8K intelligent processor. The processor elevates picture and sound quality with deep learning technology and access to an extensive database of visual information. This allows the chip to optimize content by recognizing source quality and implementing the best algorithm guaranteeing stunningly real images. With the α9 Gen 2 8K processor, LG’s 8K 88-inch 8K OLED TV boasts enhanced processing capabilities with effective 8K upscaling and improved noise reduction to 6-steps from 4-steps in the 4K version, resulting in the most lifelike 8K picture when upgrading from 4K (3,840 x 2,160) or 2K (1,920 x 1,080) content. The processor also analyzes ambient conditions to achieve the perfect level of screen brightness.

The LG 88Z9 increases viewer immersion with its impressive audio performance. Sound quality is boosted by an intelligent algorithm that can up-mix two-channel audio to deliver convincing virtual 5.1 surround sound. Deep learning significantly improves output by analyzing source content to produce enhanced sound effects in movies, deeper bass in music and clearer voices in sporting events. Users can adjust the sound to suit viewing conditions or let the TV set the best sound levels based on the environment.

To ensure an outstanding HDR experience the LG 8K OLED TV comes with Dolby Atmos for incredibly realistic sound and intelligently fine-tunes content compatible with Dolby Vision. The TV supports HDMI 2.1, allowing viewers the opportunity to enjoy 8K content at a fast 60 frames per second. The TV also supports automatic low latency mode (ALLM), variable refresh rate (VRR) and enhanced audio return channel (eARC).

In some markets the LG 8K OLED TV will offer built-in versions of both the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa for maximum flexibility, convenience and control of the TV and connected smart devices.

“Being the first to market with the world’s first and largest 8K OLED TV shows our commitment to leading the ultra-premium TV segment and delivering the ultimate viewing experience,” said Brian Kwon, president of the Mobile Communications and Home Entertainment companies at LG. “LG was a pioneer in bringing OLED to market and we will continue to introduce state-of-art TV technologies that push the boundaries of what’s possible in home entertainment.”
