LG HELPING CHALLENGED TEENS DREAM BIGGER DREAMS IN TECH

Competition Helps Challenged Students in Asia Get Started in IT Careers

The winner makes a speech after receiving his award.

SEOUL, Sep. 21, 2017 — LG Electronics (LG) is attempting to prove that amidst the criticism that the IT sector isn’t as inclusive as it could be when it comes to gender and age, one thing is certain – IT has no limitations when it comes to one’s physical capabilities.

To prove this point, LG is partnering with Rehabilitation International Korea (RI Korea) and organizing the seventh annual Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities in Hanoi, Vietnam from September 19-21. Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare and LG will host this event sponsored by Korean Ministry of Science and ICT, UNESCAP, RI (Rehabilitation International) and Community Chest of Korea. Physically challenged middle and high school students from across 16 countries in the Asia region that includes China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Kazahstan, Uzbekistan and the Philippines among others, were selected to compete across several IT categories. Vietnam was selected as the host country in recognition of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the nation and the Republic of Korea.

Since its debut in 2011, the Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities has pursued the goal to minimize the digital divide in the participants’ ability to access technology and improve their chances of finding meaningful careers. More importantly, the competition helps young adults increase their confidence and dream bigger dreams. “For me, this is a stepping stone to get into a university and become a photo editor,” said 17-year-old Nguyen Doan An of Hanoi.

Competitors will be judged by a panel made up of representatives from Korea’s top Seoul National University’s Computer Engineering Department, experts from LG Electronics’ R&D Center and IT specialists. The students will be evaluated on their ability to solve problems and think creatively using today’s technology tools. In addition to the invaluable experience, winners will receive cash prizes to assist with educational expenses.

“The challenges disabled individuals face in Asia won’t disappear overnight but with the proper training and attitude, we can help lower the barrier to entry into the IT workforce,” said Kim Young-lak, president of LG Electronics Vietnam. “LG is providing a foundation for today’s challenged youth to discover new possibilities and unleash their true potential. We are confident that these students will leave the competition knowing that they can achieve anything.”

ACCLAIMED LG V30 BEGINS MAKING ITS WAY INTO CUSTOMERS’ POCKETS AND LIVES

Latest Flagship Earns Praise for Plethora of Useful Features
Enhancing the Visual and Aural Experience

SEOUL, Sep. 20, 2017 — LG Electronics (LG) begins shipping its well-regarded LG V30 smartphone to customers in its home country of South Korea this week and will be followed by deliveries to eager customers in North America, Europe and other key markets globally in the days and weeks to come.

The LG V30 created strong interest at this year’s IFA 2017 in Berlin, winning 26 awards, the most for LG at the annual trade show. Audiences praised it for its superb design and range of innovative features with experts predicting it will be the phone to beat when it comes to creating professional-quality content without professional-level complexity.

To best deliver consumers’ preference for big screens in small bodies, LG engineers squeezed a 6-inch, 18:9 FullVision display into a frame that is 8mm shorter and 3mm narrower than its predecessor. Sheathed front and back in tempered glass that curls around its edges, the V30 won accolades for its exquisite look and feel. Weighing in at only 158g, the V30 is the lightest smartphone in the 6-inch and over smartphone category.

“The V30 was designed to help consumers best capture the experiences that make up our life stories,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Its functions and features delight our senses of sight, sound and touch and when it comes to looks, it may just be the most beautiful smartphone we’ve ever developed.”

LG is a leader in smartphone photography, and the V30 extends this legacy. The phone features many industry innovations, including the first F1.6 aperture and glass lens in a smartphone camera, the ability to produce near professional quality movies and videos by shooting in LG-Cine Log format and the smartphone industry’s first OLED display in FullVision format.

The F1.6 aperture lens that highlights the main camera captures more light for brighter-than-ever shots. The Crystal Clear Lens is composed of glass, a material usually only found in higher-end cameras that delivers more accurate colors and crisper images than traditional plastic lenses.

As a video capture tool, the V30 is equipped with Cine Video mode to make anyone shoot like a pro. Cine Effect features 15 different presets that emulate genres from romantic comedy to summer blockbuster. And industry-first Point Zoom allows one to zoom in on any subject in the frame, not only the center object. LG-Cine Log saves files while preserving a wide dynamic range and color gamut to allow for more adjustments in post-production. All this, when combined with the QHD+ (2880 x 1440) OLED FullVision display, offers faster response times and minimizes afterimages for the ideal Google Daydream VR experience.

Additional details including price and exact date of availability will be announced locally in each market.

LG TO UNVEIL NEXT GENERATION OLED TECHNOLOGY AT FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW

Innovative OLED Rear Lamps Soon to be Introduced
Commercially in Major European Automobiles

The LG-designed OLED rear lamp for vehicles before car installation on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

SEOUL, Sep. 13, 2017 ― LG Electronics (LG) will introduce its advanced auto component technologies at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show (September 14-24), highlighted by the company’s first advanced OLED rear lamps to be featured in vehicles from a major European automaker. LG will also highlight connected car solutions for autonomous driving concept cars. LG’s debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show follows the company’s recent debut at major auto shows in Asia (Beijing and Shanghai) as well as North America (Detroit) following the launch of the LG Vehicle Components business division in 2013.

The LG-designed OLED rear lamp leverages the company’s global leadership in all things OLED. As the world’s leader in OLED TVs, LG has deep experience incorporating advanced OLED technologies in products such as smartphones, smartwatches and instrument panels. LG’s OLED rear lamp is more compact than conventional lighting modules thanks to the lack of a backlight unit, up to 85 to 90 percent smaller than typical rear lamps. LG’s OLED lamp also runs cooler which results in improved durability and longevity compared to conventional rear units. In addition to its new OLED rear lamp, LG plans to showcase other innovative products such as AV navigation systems, infotainment systems and convenience-enhancing devices such as ADAS cameras, LCD instrument panels and electric compressors, among others.

LG Vehicle Components is LG’s fastest growing business and is expected to play a major role in the future growth of the corporation. This growth will be fueled to a large degree by the collaboration with General Motors on the Chevrolet Bolt EV, in which LG is supplying a total of 11 components and systems, including electric drive motors, power invertor modules, battery cells and high power distribution modules. For its contribution toward the success of the Chevy Bolt, LG was recognized with GM’s Innovation Award of the Year earlier this year. This comes top of other industry recognitions such as the Supplier Award from Renault and the Technology and Innovation Award from Volkswagen.

“We plan to expand our presence and expertise in the fast-growing electric vehicle market by aggressively engaging industry leaders in Europe, North America and Asia,” said Lee Woo-jung, president of the LG Vehicle Components Company. “We want to highlight how LG can work with automakers to develop custom solutions to drive technological innovation. LG has been a formidable player in automotive components for decades and we feel this is the right time to capitalize on this knowledge and experience.”

THE EVOLUTION OF LG OLED TV FROM OUTLIER TO PREMIUM CATEGORY LEADER

The past year has been a true coming-of-age moment for LG’s OLED technology, the most exciting since LG introduced the world’s first 55-inch OLED TV in 2013. More and more companies are jump on the bandwagon as OLED firmly establishing itself as the premier TV technology. At IFA 2017, a total of 13 different companies showcased OLED TV products, up from nine last year with LG leading the way with its elegant 2017 lineup.

The entrance to LG’s booth at IFA 2017 was marked by a mesmerizing OLED tunnel. The tunnel made an impression on IFA visitors from all over the world with its ingenuity, scale and cutting-edge technology. Crisp images were displayed across the OLED screens that formed the tunnel while nearby speakers projected object-based Dolby Atmos sound. The inky blacks, infinite contrast and lifelike colors made possible by the OLED tunnel helped the technology make a name for itself in the high-stakes world of tech expos. LG’s booth also featured the award-winning wallpaper SIGNATURE OLED TV W which mesmerized visitors with its razor-slim profile and revolutionary Picture-On-Wall design concept, which makes the TV look like a window into another dimension.

LG’s OLED TVs have grown, matured and come of age in a blisteringly competitive global premium TV market, and LG’s increasingly fortified position as the leader in OLED TV innovation has had a major impact on emerging technology trends.

Challenges of Developing OLED Display Technology

LG has been both a pioneer and the undisputed leader in the OLED TV market. During the first few years, these innovative screens were originally seen by industry experts, TV reviewers and consumers alike as the future of TV. Since their introduction, LG OLED TVs have also continued to smash records. The format’s versatility and unrivaled picture quality have helped it receive numerous prominent awards and top marks in consumer reviews.

As advanced, new technology, early LG OLED TVs came at a relatively high price. Some industry pundits were skeptical as to whether OLED’s manufacturing requirements would discourage investment in the technology.

Early OLED TVs found a niche in the premium TV market and LG gained a reputation as an industry risk taker. This persistence and determination to bring consumers the best possible viewing experience soon paid off. LG was able to raise consumer awareness, enhance economies of scale to reduce OLED TV prices as well as diversify its OLED TV lineup in order to offer consumers a wider selection of screen sizes and designs. In relatively no time at all, LG had a hit on its hands.

Every year, LG makes significant strides in OLED technology and continues to incorporate the most advanced features into its OLED TV lineup. This ongoing effort is made possible by LG’s never-ending campaign to streamline its manufacturing processes and slash production costs by investing in cutting-edge production facilities and expertly managing its supply chain. LG has also heavily invested in communicating how well equipped OLED is to meet consumer needs. These efforts have led to a wider base of consumers purchasing OLED TVs.

The media has also become more interested in OLED technology and this enthusiasm for LG’s OLED TV has spread beyond tech media to include consumer media outlets and consumer technology organizations.

Pinnacle of Global TV Market

Four years after LG unveiled its first OLED TV lineup, the company views the growing competition as a chance to increase consumer understanding of the technology and a strategic opportunity to solidify its position at the top of the global premium TV market. The OLED TV segment already occupies a consistently increasing share of the global premium TV market and it is now easier than ever to buy an OLED TV at an attractive price.

An excellent example of the increased media attention for OLED can be seen in how LG’s 2016 and 2017 LG OLED TV lineups received praise not only from tech media but also from consumer media and lifestyle publications as well as other technology companies and major consumer TV shootout events. This year, LG OLED TVs bested all 200 competing TV products in review campaigns by receiving the highest ratings from the major consumer magazines in nine European countries – the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium and Portugal.

What’s more, a leading U.S consumer publication picked an LG OLED TV as the best TV in the market. Other models in the LG OLED TV lineup made many media’s Top Ten lists. These consumer-oriented magazines and organizations take into account picture, sound and smart features in order to help consumers make the best possible purchase. The limelight LG has received from these publications demonstrates that OLED has firmly established its spot in the hearts and minds of consumers, in addition to its prestigious position in the global TV market.

Earned a Place on Consumers’ Shortlist

Since their beginning, OLED TVs have always been considered the top option for delivering the best possible home viewing experience with their incredibly intense black and infinite contrast, due to capacity to control light at pixel level. LG has equipped its OLED TVs with the most powerful technologies while housing them in sophisticated, ultra-slim designs. This makes LG’s OLED TVs unmistakable, even in the increasingly crowded OLED market. Improving on an already exceptional product, the 2017 LG OLED TV lineup boasts nearly uniform picture and sound technology.

AT IFA 2017, LG SHINES SPOTLIGHT ON TV PARTNERSHIP WITH DOLBY AND TECHNICOLOR

Award-wining OLED TVs Lead Market in Image Rendering for All Content

Four LG SIGNATURE OLED TV Ws displaying optimized colors on show at IFA 2017.

BERLIN, Sep. 1, 2017 — TVs from LG Electronics (LG) will be in the spotlight at IFA 2017 with strong partnerships that leverage technologies from renowned companies such as Dolby® and Technicolor.

LG will demonstrate 2017 OLED TVs featuring Technicolor Expert Mode that display colors optimized by Technicolor’s color scientists who work on the majority of Hollywood’s premium content. Technicolor Expert Mode will be available in the picture setting menu to all of LG’s 2017 OLED TVs starting in October. LG is also working on adopting Technicolor Expert Mode for its 2017 SUPER UHD TVs. LG’s OLED TVs have been recognized for their superior performance and are used by Technicolor as consumer reference displays in the production of home delivery versions of major Hollywood movies and television content such as Logan and Sense 8. This recognition from Technicolor verifies LG’s longstanding claim that its OLED TVs enable users to enjoy premium viewing experience.

“While doing color work on season two of the Netflix series Sense 8, LG’s OLED technology was crucial when collaborating with writer/director Lana Wachowski – who has offices on the other side of the country – and cinematographer John Toll, in Hollywood,” explains Tony Dustin, senior colorist with Technicolor. “OLED technology’s true blacks, color saturation and depth ensured that all of us were looking at the same colors, even when we were not physically together. On top of that, we’re excited that LG OLED TVs are readily available on the market for consumers wishing to experience LG OLED TV picture quality, and this gives us confidence that the images we were working on will be accurately represented for audiences at home.”

At IFA 2017, LG will demonstrate the powerful, 4K HDR video game rendering capabilities of its OLED TVs expanded color performance in combination with Microsoft’s Xbox One S and Turn 10’s Forza Horizon 3. With HDR, the glint of the sun off the racing cars is complimented by the pixel diming nature of OLED. This allows the light to be bright even against a dark car with no discoloration. Serious gamers will benefit from an input lag time of no more than 21.3 milliseconds ensuring that from controller to screen time is almost instantaneous via the HDR Game Mode of LG’s OLED TVs by using Microsoft’s Xbox One S.

All 2017 LG OLED and SUPER UHD TVs feature Active HDR which delivers brighter highlights and greater shadow details when displaying HDR content. Active HDR allows LG TVs to process the picture scene by scene, generating dynamic data from each scene in the video, which is then used to optimize the rendered picture on a scene by scene basis. In addition, 2017 LG OLED TVs and SUPER UHD TVs support multiple HDR formats including Dolby VisionTM, HDR10 and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) broadcast technology, with all 2017 LG UHD TV models supporting the HLG format. Additionally, LG plans to support Advanced HDR by Technicolor in the future. And LG uses dynamic data in processing HDR10 and HLG content with scene by scene adjustment for an improved viewing experience even on open standard HDR format. LG’s TV lineup’s versatility is further enhanced by HDR Effect which upscales standard dynamic range content to improve brightness and contrast ratios. LG will hold several HDR demonstrations at its IFA 2017 booth, including BBC 4K HLG content, Amazon HDR10 and Netflix Dolby Vision content.

On-demand streaming services offer a strong lineup of content featured in Dolby Vision with more than 100 studio titles available today. Additionally, more than 125 hours of original content is available in Dolby Vision across leading over-the-top (OTT) providers and consumers globally also have access to Dolby Vision titles on Ultra HD Blu-ray disc.

At IFA, LG will demonstrate for the first time enhanced Alexa voice control functions in an LG TV connected to an Amazon Echo speaker. With Amazon Alexa compatibility for the company’s webOS TVs, visitors at IFA will be able to issue voice commands to Amazon Echo speaker to control TV functions such as channel selection, volume, directional controls, content search and smart TV app launch, all hands and remote control free.

The amazing LG SIGNATURE OLED TV W is making its IFA debut today. This outstanding feat of engineering was honored with the widest collection of TV awards at CES 2017, winning this year’s Best of the Best award. Other compelling OLED TVs such as the LG E7, which received industry-wide recognition on both sides of the Atlantic, was crowned winner of all three categories: Studio Lighting/Home Theater, HDR and Streaming Performance in the 14th Annual CE Week TV Shootout in New York as well as being recognized by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) as the Best OLED TV.

“We are pleased to exhibit our superior 2017 TVs at IFA, offering visitors the opportunity to experience their unrivaled performance hands-on,” said Brian Kwon, president of the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “Partnerships with respected names such as Technicolor and Dolby demonstrate LG’s commitment to continually pushing the boundaries of TV technology.”

Visitors to LG’s booth at IFA 2017 in Berlin will have a chance to see the LG SIGNATURE OLED TV W along with other TV innovations from LG for themselves.

LG TO SHOWCASE NEXT LEVEL OF PREMIUM BUILT-IN APPLIANCES AT IFA 2017

LG STUDIO Available in More Sizes Options to Fit Seamlessly into Any Kitchen

Kitchen with wooden cabinets and the complete North American LG STUDIO lineup with black stainless steel finish, including oven, induction stovetop, wall hood, dishwasher and Side-by-Side refrigerator.

BERLIN, Aug. 31, 2017 — At IFA 2017 in Berlin, LG Electronics (LG) will demonstrate how it is expanding its built-in appliance offerings to accommodate even more existing kitchen layouts. With consumers becoming more and more involved in designing and personalizing their kitchens, LG’s built-in collections come in two different sizes and offer wider range of styles to choose from. LG combines the latest kitchen appliance technologies with sophisticated styling, allowing these premium appliances to seamlessly blend in with kitchen interiors while achieving space efficiency.

The North American LG STUDIO collection is widely noted for its sleek smudge-resistant black stainless steel finish. The lineup includes a 30-inch electric wall oven, a 36-inch induction stovetop, a radiant, gas cooktop and wall hood, a 24-inch QuadWash™ dishwasher and a spacious 42-inch Side-by-Side refrigerator.

The state-of-the art European LG STUDIO package allows one to cook, dine and clean in style with the help of a 24-inch electric wall oven, 24-inch induction hob, 24-inch QuadWash™ dishwasher, 24-inch Bottom-Freezer, 36-inch wall mount hood as well as radiant and gas hobs. Fast boiling, frying, and searing are all possible thanks to LG’s built-in induction hob, which is capable of generating 7.4 kW of heat energy – the highest in the industry. While other hobs that offer auto detection are only capable of recognizing one piece of cookware, LG’s induction hob can recognize up to 4 pots or pans automatically. The hob’s flexible cooking zone provides additional versatility by allowing the user to simultaneously prepare several dishes that require larger cookware, such as stews and soups. The built-in oven comes with six adjustable rack levels while the Easy Clean feature is so effective that family members can spend more time enjoying their food, not cleaning it.

LG’s interactive cooking show will be the highlight of the week’s activities inside the Built-in Zone at LG’s booth at IFA. Visitors will have a chance to try an assortment of star chef Kolja Kleeberg’s signature dishes – including refreshing starters, rich entrées, beautifully prepared desserts – all made possible with the help of LG STUDIO appliances. Kleeberg, a renowned German chef equally famous for his jovial personality as he is for his extraordinary culinary skills, will prepare four different three course meals every day. While cooking, Chef Kleeberg will also provide tips and explanations on how to use kitchen appliances to their full potential.

“LG’s premium built-in kitchens are the ideal solution for today’s discerning homeowner,” said Song Dae-hyun, president of LG Electronics and Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “Visitors to our booth at IFA will walk away thoroughly impressed by how far today’s appliances have evolved beyond yesterday’s rectangular boxes. LG’s built-in collections offer a level of premium-ness and quality that have to be seen to be believed.”

LG V30 CHARTS NEW MOBILE FRONTIER WITH PREMIUM CINEMATOGRAPHY CAPABILITIES

LG’s Third V Smartphone Ups the Ante for Design and High-end
Content Creation with Unmatched Package of Features and Options

The front and back view of the LG V30 in Aurora Black, Cloud Silver, Moroccan Blue and Lavender Violet

BERLIN, Aug. 31, 2017 — LG Electronics (LG) today took the wraps off the eagerly anticipated LG V30, the latest iteration of the company’s V series flagship smartphones. The LG V30 improves on the strengths of the V series phones in providing a whole new mobile experience and offering optimal multimedia features. The V30 features many industry innovations – the first F1.6 aperture camera lens, the first glass Crystal Clear Lens, the first OLED FullVision display, Cine Video mode for producing movie-quality videos, premium sound with advanced Hi-Fi Quad DAC, sound tuning by B&O PLAY, and Voice Recognition. The V30 sets a new standard in the evolution of premium smartphones.

Videos Like a Pro with F1.6 Crystal Clear Lens and Cine Video

The LG V30 features powerful video capabilities that make it a leader in the era of smartphone videography. The main camera on the rear of the V30 features an F1.6 aperture that lets in more light for brighter, more dynamic shots. Paired with the glass Crystal Clear Lens which delivers more accurate colors and clearer images than a plastic lens, the V30 is the most capable image capturing device in a smartphone. The second lens in the V30 dual camera is an upgraded 13MP wide angle lens with two-thirds less edge distortion than in the V20.

LG’s new Cine Video mode allows anyone to produce movies like a pro, thanks to its powerful Cine Effect and Point Zoom features. Users can now take high-quality videos enhanced by the cinematic hues of various movie genres with only a smartphone. While typical cameras only allow one to zoom in on the center of the frame, Point Zoom allows users to zoom in on any subject smoothly using the zoom slider, regardless of its position in the frame, another industry first. And Cine Effect provides a palette of 15 presets to give videos a unique movie-like look, from romantic comedy, summer blockbuster, mystery, thriller and classic movie, among others.

LG V30 supports LG-Cine Log which allows for greater creative flexibility when capturing videos. With the ability to preserve a wide dynamic range and color gamut, LG-Cine Log videos files can save far more accurate image details. LG-Cine Log also allows for recording video using log gamma curve for maximum flexibility in producing the look the user wants during post-production.

Photo capturing is even more advanced with the new V30. The camera’s Manual Mode takes on a whole new level of capability with Graphy. With Graphy, any shutterbug can produce quality photos simply by choosing the image and pressing the shutter. Available in Manual Mode, users can select professional images from the Graphy website or mobile app and apply the same presets such as white balance, shutter speed, aperture and ISO to photos taken with the V30.

Slim, Lightweight Design and OLED FullVision Display in Compact Body

The LG V30 builds on the strengths of the OLED FullVision display in a body that is surprisingly compact, slim and light. Even with a large 6-inch 18:9 OLED FullVision display, the V30 is 8mm shorter and 3mm narrower than its predecessor, resulting in a firmer, more confident grip. With a thickness of only 7.3mm and tipping the scale at 158g, the V30 is the lightest among smartphones in the 6-inch and over category. The tempered glass that covers both the front and back is curved all the way around the edge, resulting in a sleek, integrated look and feel.

The advanced dual camera module featuring a 16MP standard angle camera and a 13MP wide angle camera is smaller than the module in the V20, resulting in the near flat rear profile of the V30. For the smoothest and sharpest images, the main standard angle camera is supported by Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and Hybrid Auto Focus that combines both Laser Detection Auto Focus and Phase Detection Auto Focus.

The QHD+ (2880 x 1440) OLED FullVision display offers faster response time with minimal afterimages when viewing an action-packed movie or playing a game with quick movements. The V30 takes full advantage of this rapid response time and the exceptional graphics delivered by the robust Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 835 Mobile Platform to support Daydream, Google’s platform for high quality, mobile VR. With Daydream, users can explore new worlds, enjoy personal VR cinema and play games that put them in the center of the action.

Personalized Superior Sound Backed by Hi-Fi Quad DAC

LG has equipped the V30 with a Hi-Fi Quad DAC with audio tuning by sound engineers from world renowned audio brand B&O PLAY – delivering an authentic and superior acoustic experience – as well as a set of earphones by B&O PLAY, also finely tuned for an optimal listening experience. 1 Digital filters adjust the pre- and post-ringing of the impulse response of music with three filters which users can select. Four pre-programmed presets mix and match sound frequencies and decibel scales to produce the quality of audio found in professional earphones.

The V30 is the first global smartphone to support MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) technology that allows for the streaming of high-resolution audio. MQA captures the sound of the original studio master and folds it into a small file to make high-resolution audio easy to stream. The V30’s recording capability is upgraded as well, with a receiver that doubles as a microphone to capture a broader sound spectrum, from gentle chimes to thunderous drums.

Equipped with Google Assistant and Voice Recognition

The Google Assistant on the LG V30 will feature unique capabilities specific to the phone. Saying “Ok Google, take a romantic Cine Video” will activate Cine Video preset to Romantic. Say “Ok Google, take a wide angle selfie” to launch the camera app with the setting on the front-facing camera wide angle mode. The Google Assistant on the V30 takes advantage of advanced signal processing enabling users to use the voice command, “Ok Google” even when loud music is being played. In addition, select LG appliances including a washing machine, dryer, refrigerator, air purifier, oven, air conditioner and robot vacuum are compatible with the Google Assistant when using the V30 and Google Home. Users can say, “Ok Google, talk to LG to wash my clothes” to start a load of laundry.

The convenience of the Second Screen which was introduced in past V series smartphones has evolved into a new AOD (always-on display) feature and Floating Bar. When the display is off, the AOD (always-on display) replaces the Second Screen by providing shortcuts to Quick Tools and Music Player without having to turn on the display. The optional semi-transparent Floating Bar can be customized with up to five apps for easy access to the most used applications. When not needed, the Floating Bar can be dragged off to the side so it doesn’t take up any screen space.

Now with four different options, security on the LG V30 is more advanced than ever. With Face Recognition, the V30 can be unlocked instantaneously using the front facing camera and without pressing any buttons even when the phone’s display is off. Voice Recognition uses a combination of the user’s voice and user-defined keywords (optimally three to five syllables) to unlock the V30. The reliable Fingerprint Sensor resides on the rear of the phone for fast, accurate security and Knock Code allows tapping a pattern on the screen to unlock the V30.

Inheriting Legacy of LG Premium Phones, Solid Durability and Safety

The V30 combines solid durability with safety with a slim and light design. One of the design aspects in the V30 that enhances durability and makes for tensile strength is an H-Beam structure, a construction technique found in modern buildings that integrate the edge with a metal frame. The phone also features Gorilla® Glass 5, Corning’s most advanced tempered glass, on both the front and rear. The V30 meets U.S. Department of Defense requirements for durability, having passed 14 categories of the MIL-STD 810G Transit Drop Test making it compliant for military operations.

LG applied a heat pipe and a cooling pad in the V30 to dissipate heat quickly. The V30 can be used in any situation without worry thanks to its IP68 water and dust resistance. The phone is perfectly sealed from dust and can be immersed in up to 1.5 meters of water for as long as 30 minutes without impacting the function. With Quick Charge 3.0, the V30 charges from empty to 50 percent in around 30 minutes. The V30 also offers wireless charging for the ultimate in convenience.

“The V series has always been demonstrating new practical mobile technologies that contribute to high quality content creation and the V30 has not lost sight of its roots,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “With its F1.6 Crystal Clear Lens Camera and Cine Video mode, the LG V30 is designed to help create professional-looking content without professional-level complexity.”

Customers of LG V30 will receive USD 100 worth of in-game purchases when downloading and installing the popular game Beat Fever by WRKSHP. The games take full advantage of the phone’s immersive OLED FullVision display and high-quality audio capability.

The V30 will become available to consumers in South Korea starting on September 21 and will be followed by key markets in North America, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The V30 with 64GB ROM will come in four beautiful elegant hues: Aurora Black, Cloud Silver, Moroccan Blue and Lavender Violet 2 while the LG V30+ with 128GB of storage will be available in limited markets.

LG SMART ECOSYSTEM NOW COMPATIBLE WITH BOTH AMAZON ALEXA AND GOOGLE ASSISTANT PLATFORMS

LG’s Open Smart Home Strategy Expands to Include
Two Popular Intelligent Personal Assistant Services

Kitchen with diagram connecting the LG InstaView Door-in-Door™ refrigerator, microwave, oven and dishwasher with a SmartThinQ™ icon and icon of a person speaking

BERLIN, Aug. 30, 2017 — LG Electronics (LG) continues to work earnestly behind the scenes to expand its smart home partnership strategy to work with as many different smart platforms and services as possible. Committed to its Open Partnership, Open Platform, and Open Connectivity strategy, LG has been steadily building up its smart ecosystem with a smart lineup that includes not only intelligent home appliances but also robots that greet, clean and mow, to be on display at IFA 2017 in Berlin from September 1-6.

With Wi-Fi built into all of its 2017 appliances, LG makes it especially easy for its customers to connect and interact. LG’s Smart InstaView Door-in-Door™ refrigerator powered by LG’s own webOS smart platform is compatible with all the convenient features provided by Amazon Alexa voice service. With more than 15,000 skills, Alexa can control thousands of smart home devices, play music, arrange car service, set timers, and more.

New for 2017, the Google Assistant is now compatible with all of LG smart home devices using either Google Home, your eligible Android phone or your iPhone, you can control connected appliances hands-free. Using the Google Assistant, users can perform a range of tasks such as checking the remaining time for a wash cycle to finish or telling the refrigerator to create more ice. And because the Assistant on Google Home can distinguish one voice from another, the entire family can get in on the action.

LG also utilizes its own intelligent voice platform, Deep ThinQ, as well as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. SmartThinQ Hub plays a central role in LG’s smart home platform by collecting information from smart appliances as well as conventional devices connected to SmartThinQ sensors via Wi-Fi, Zigbee and Bluetooth. Information is displayed in the form of notifications on the LCD screen or announced through its embedded speaker.

LG will be showcasing its intelligent robots for the first time in Europe at the Berlin show, led by the very approachable Hub Robot. More than just an assistant, the Hub Robot uses voice recognition technology to connect to other smart LG devices to make household tasks less of a chore. A verbal command is all it takes for the robot to execute tasks such as adjusting the dryer cycle from hot to warm or turning on the air conditioner in another room.

The Airport Guide Robot and Airport Cleaning Robot form the foundation of LG’s out-of-home service robots initiative. Using LG’s own voice recognition platform, the Airport Guide Robot understands Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese – the four most popular languages spoken at Incheon International Airport. With a quick scan of a visitor’s boarding pass, the robot provides flight information as well as the time and weather in the destination city. The friendly robot is currently in full operation at Korea’s largest airport, providing visitors a warm welcome and escorting late travelers to their departure gate in record time.

LG’s Lawn Mowing Robot, making its European debut at IFA, trims grass accurately, reliably and most of all, safely. Equipped with many of the advanced sensors found in the Airport Robots, the Lawn Mowing Robot recognizes its own location at all times and keeps track of every visible obstacle – such as trees and hedges – to enhance cutting performance.

“The development of voice recognition technology plays an crucial role in advancing our own IoT and smart technologies,” said Song Dae-hyun, president of LG’s Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “By adhering to LG’s Open Platform philosophy, we’re able to deliver a diverse range of benefits and services for our customers that is unrivaled in the industry. By strengthening our relationships with Google, Amazon and other players in this space, we’re making amazing headway in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

LG will be welcoming IFA visitors to its booth starting this Friday to experience the amazing world of LG smart appliances for themselves where they will see an array of smart IoT devices that deliver smart lighting, energy, security and air care inside the home.

USING STEAM TECHNOLOGY, LG AIMS TO DO TO DISHES WHAT IT HAS DONE TO CLOTHES

LG SteamClean Dishwasher Provides Ultimate
Cleaning with TrueSteam and QuadWash

LG SteamClean™ dishwasher with the door slightly open and filled with various clean dishes

SEOUL, Aug. 29, 2017 — LG Electronics (LG) is setting new standards for dishwashers with its newest LG SteamClean™ dishwasher equipped with the company’s one-of-a-kind TrueSteam™ technology. This revolutionary product sets itself apart from the competition with steam technology that not only cleans more effectively, but also more efficiently. With years of steam technology experience gathered from LG’s clothing care products such as washing machines and the Styler. The dishwasher’s host of unique performance-enhancing technologies will offer consumers a whole new way to wash dishes.

TrueSteam emits high temperature steam to clean everything from delicate stemware to steel pots and pans. A Pre-Steam option gently removes caked layers of food residue, eliminating the need to scrub items by hand before placing them in the dishwasher. By spraying the contents with steam at the end of a cycle, the LG SteamClean dishwasher reduces undesirable water spots – one of the most frequently mentioned complaints among dishwasher owners – by 40 percent.1 LG’s steam technology not only ensures impeccably clean results, it also yields significant hygienic benefits in keeping with LG’s longstanding dedication to exceeding consumers’ needs.

Another core technology the dishwasher comes equipped with is QuadWash™, a feature that raises the bar on dishwashing by using four spray arms instead of the two featured in most washers. Its multi-motion arms sweep and rotate back and forth while spinning in both directions to clean plates, glassware, and cookware of all shapes and sizes from nearly every angle.

The dishwasher is powered by the Inverter Direct Drive Motor, which increases energy efficiency and helps reduce noise. The motor also allows for the adjustment of water intensity to provide the soft settings necessary for fragile dishware in the upper rack and a stronger setting for pots and pans on the lower level. This versatility offers more effective cleaning performance without risking damage to the dishware.

Moreover, the EasyRack+ system conveniently allows users to adjust the height of the rack to three different levels to accommodate all dishes, cups and flatware. The SteamClean™ dishwasher offers nine pre-set wash cycles to choose from and allows users to download more using the LG SmartThinQ app.

“LG SteamClean dishwasher offers everything our consumers expect from an LG appliance – convenience, flexibility, and especially performance,” said Song Dae-hyun, president of LG Electronics and Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “Steam technology allows us to deliver a balance of outstanding performance with gentle care. It’s this kind of innovation with a real purpose that our customers expect from LG.”

Visitors to IFA 2017 in Berlin will have a chance to experience LG’s innovative home appliances personally in Hall 18 of Messe Berlin.

FROM DELICATE CHORDS TO DEAFENING THUNDER, LG V30 DELIVERS TAILORED HI-FI

Hi-Fi Filter, Sound Preset and Hi-Fi Streaming Set to Delight Ears Everywhere

The LG V30’s 32-bit Advanced Hi-Fi Quad DAC powered by ESS Technology’s SABRE ES9218P

SEOUL, Aug. 28, 2017 — The upcoming V series smartphone from LG will offer next-generation audio functions unseen in a smartphone before for a personalized sound experience that is also easy to use. Developed in conjunction with long-time experts in the audio space the LG V30 is a perfect example of the partnership strategy behind developing the perfect mobile device for audiophiles.

Building on the Hi-Fi Quad DAC first introduced by its predecessor, the LG V30 features a 32-bit Advanced Hi-Fi Quad DAC powered by ESS Technology’s SABRE ES9218P. LG’s Hi-Fi Quad DAC presents two new features: digital filters and sound presets. While the original Hi-Fi Quad DAC emphasized delivering Hi-Fi sound as close as possible to the original source by minimizing distortion and white noise, Advanced Hi-Fi Quad DAC offers more customizable options.

Digital filters, normally only available in expensive digital audio players, improves the pre- and post-ringing of the impulse response with filters that can be customized to personal tastes. In developing sound presets, LG engineers studied the characteristics of popular tones and identified the best combination of sounds to create four optimal pre-programmed settings: enhanced, detailed, live and bass. Even with ordinary equipment, LG V30 users can experience much of the high-quality audio enjoyed by listeners using expensive headsets.

The Hi-Fi Quad DAC controls left and right audio signals separately, adjusting balance in such detail that listeners will feel as if they are standing in the center of a concert hall. LG has managed to cut the distortion rate down to 0.0002 percent. The less information lost when converting digital data into analog waveform, the clearer the resulting sound is. The audio paths are wider than ever in the V30 so it can process large, high-quality audio files without any lag and with greater accuracy.

The LG V30 also includes technology from partner company MQA Ltd. that facilitates high resolution audio streaming, the next big trend in mobile music. This allows the V30 to combine its stellar Quad DAC with MQA technology for a listening experience that will touch the heart as well as the ears. Music fans can enjoy high-resolution audio without the inconvenience of downloading huge files or using up large amounts of mobile data to get great sounding music through the V30.

What’s more, the HD Audio Recorder in the V30 features the capability to use the audio receiver of the phone simultaneously as a microphone (Receiver-as-a-Mic or RAM). The RAM can record loud sounds clearly, so the LG V30 can record a wider dynamic range of sounds, from a whisper to a thunderstorm, without distortion.

“With the V30, LG and our partners are pushing the boundaries of smartphone audio to enable a more bespoke listening experiences,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The combination of its advanced Hi-Fi audio technology and the superb images generated by its OLED FullVision display makes the LG V30 a true multimedia powerhouse.”

With the V30, LG continues its close partnership with B&O PLAY. B&O PLAY refined the audio capabilities in the V30 by fine-tuning the overall sound experience and adding its own exclusive touch. A set of high quality B&O PLAY earphones comes bundled with the V30 for hours of listening pleasure with style.

“For most people, listening to the music they love is a fundamental part of their lives and they expect the same uncompromised experience and quality from their headphones as they do from the mobile device they source music from,” said John Mollanger, CEO of B&O PLAY. “That’s why B&O PLAY is very excited for our long-term partnership with LG and satisfying global music lovers world over.”

FROM LOWLY BOX TO HIGH TECH GADGET, LG REFRIGERATORS CONTINUE TO DELIGHT AND AMAZE FAMILIES WORLD OVER

Long a Trendsetter, LG’s Influence in the Kitchen
Continues to Shape a Dynamic Market Around the World

Woman and little girl holding a teddy bear standing in a kitchen with the LG InstaView Door-in-Door™ in the background

SEOUL, Aug. 25, 2017 — Few will likely name the unassuming refrigerator as the item in the home that has transformed family life. But refrigerator innovation over the past 60 years has transformed this appliance from a lowly kitchen box to become highly functional and ergonomic product that it is today. With the technological advancements in today’s refrigerators, consumers have come to hold these products to a higher standard. And to meet the expectations of today’s demanding consumers, appliance makers are focusing more than ever on enhancing convenience by improving usability and accessibility.

Appliances are evolving to suit consumer needs as they appear, and the most innovative manufacturers are the ones that are able to predict user trends and meet their demands before they arise. Time and time again, LG Electronics has established a reputation as a company that is unafraid to push the boundaries of innovation and challenge convention. Its dedication to consistently work to bring convenience-enhancing features to consumers has resulted in a number of breakout products including the Home Bar and the InstaView Door-in-Door™ with Inverter Linear Compressor to boost overall energy efficiency and performance.

In 1998, LG introduced the Home Bar, representing the culmination of the company’s efforts to bring together both convenience and efficient storage. It offered owners a unique compartmentalized space that could be used as a home bar, a shelf or even a refrigerator. Instead of having to move a single drink over to the kitchen counter after opening the entire appliance to take it out, users could simply pull out the attached rack and pour their drink without moving a single step. If consumers wanted to store their unfinished drinks and snacks for later, they could simply leave the items in the storage area for quick and easy access later.

Following the success of the Home Bar, LG looks at other ways its products could enhance user convenience to surprise and delight LG customers. Research showed that LG customers typically opened their refrigerators an average of 79 times a day 1. Despite this fact, 4 out of 10 customers had trouble remembering what was inside their refrigerators, resulting in spoiled food being thrown away. 2 This prompted LG to create the innovative Door-in-Door™ refrigerator in 2010. A first of a kind, LG’s Door-in-Door™ innovation makes it easier to organize frequently accessed items in the refrigerator so that can be easily removed without opening the entire door and letting precious cold air escape. By lessening the number of times the main door is opened, food stay fresh longer. Taking this to another level, LG introduced the world’s first Dual Door-in-Door™ in 2014 to double the convenience and allow for greater flexibility in organizing the food.

With efficiency now at the top of LG’s priority list, researchers discovered that anywhere from 50-120kwh of electricity was wasted every year from cold air escaping whenever the refrigerator door was opened. 3 So in 2016, LG developed the InstaView Door-in-Door™ to allow family members to now see what was in the refrigerator without having to open anything at all. Knock twice on the transparent door would illuminate the interior allowing for a clear view of what was inside. The response from the public took LG executives by surprise – whenever consumers saw the refrigerator in a store or in a showroom, they couldn’t resist the opportunity to knock on the door. The refrigerator had become a conversation piece because fundamentally, LG InstaView Door-in-Door™ transformed the way consumers use refrigerators: from having to open the door to see what’s inside to being able to see inside before opening the door.

The new kitchen culture ushered in by LG’s Home Bar, Door-in-Door™ and InstaView Door-in-Door™ begs the question: What will LG come up with next? Despite having long been a pioneer and influential player in the global refrigerator industry, LG has never taken its success for granted, continuing to stay committed to the development of home appliances that surpass its customers’ expectations and delighting families world over. Always considering user needs and convenience above everything else, LG continues to surprise with its unique, innovative products and technology for the kitchen.
