Designed for Superb User Experiences, Lineup Includes 17-inch High-res Display
Laptop with Unprecedented Portability, Innovative 14-inch 2-in-1 Solution

A lady creating graphs with LG gram.

SEOUL, Dec. 12, 2018 — LG Electronics (LG) will reveal the latest entries in its ultra-light gram laptop line at CES 2019 – the new LG gram 17 (model 17Z990) and 14-inch LG gram 2-in-1 (model 14T990), both 2019 CES Innovation Award winners.

Adding more processing power and all-around usability, the LG gram 17 stays true to LG gram’s winning formula, balancing the technology and features users demand with a level of portability previously thought impossible for a laptop this size. The 14-inch model is a 2-in-1 “convertible” laptop which conveniently folds to transform from laptop to tablet and back again, presenting users with unparalleled flexibility for a truly versatile on-the-go computing solution.

LG gram 17

While many competing products force consumers to choose between portability and performance, the LG gram 17 sacrifices neither, successfully delivering on both fronts. A CES 2019 Innovation Awards honoree, it offers speed, power and a generous 17-inch high-resolution display all within a 15.6-inch class body.

The 17-inch LG gram is equipped with a Wide Quad Extended Graphics Array (WQXGA) display that has twice the pixels (2560 x 1600) of a standard Full HD screen, resulting in highly detailed images with incredibly precise color reproduction. The display’s 16:10 ratio offers more screen real estate than the usual 16:9 format, making it ideal for image- and video-editing, viewing multiple documents simultaneously and a host of other applications. The new model is a great choice for media prosumers and business professionals who require an extremely portable large-screen laptop that provides strong performance.

Where most 17-inch laptops tip the scale at more than two kilograms, the LG gram 17 weighs in at a mere 1,340 grams to claim the title of the lightest 17-inch laptop on the market. The light weight makes it easy for users to enjoy a large-screen experience wherever they go. Additionally, the new model features a highly efficient 72W battery that allows up to 19.5 hours of operation on a single charge,* meaning users can get more done without having to worry about tracking down a power outlet. Slim and stylish, the LG gram is also tough, complying with stringent U.S. military MIL-STD-810G durability criteria covering seven resilience factors including shock, dust and extreme temperatures.

Contrary to what its size might suggest, the 17-inch LG gram is a powerhouse portable workstation. With the newest 8th Generation Intel® Core™ processor and up to 16GB of DDR4 memory, the laptop works efficiently and smoothly, even when running the most resource-thirsty files and apps. The laptop comes with a 256GB solid-state drive (SSD) and has an extra slot for an additional SSD, allowing double the onboard storage.

The LG gram 17 incorporates a variety of features that bring more convenience to users’ lives. The inclusion of ThunderboltTM 3 means users can charge devices, transfer files and display content via a single port.** It has transfer speeds of up to 40 gigabits per second, eight times faster than a conventional USB 3.0 connection. Meanwhile, the laptop’s Precision Glass Touchpad ensures responsive control and offers four-point touch recognition. A backlit keyboard with two brightness settings makes it possible to use the laptop in dim environments.

For immersive surround sound on the go, DTS Headphone X realistically simulates the 11.1 channel array found in movie theaters. Enhancing security and saving time, the accurate fingerprint reader enables users to power on and log in simultaneously.

LG gram 2-in-1

Also new to the 2019 lineup is another CES Innovation Award winner is the LG gram 2-in-1. This creative portable computer conveniently folds to transform from laptop to tablet and back again. Presenting users with unparalleled flexibility, the LG gram 2-in-1 is sure to satisfy those seeking a truly versatile on-the-go computing solution.

The convertible model boasts a distinctive form factor with 14-inch large touchscreen maintaining ultra-light weight. The unit cleverly integrates a 360-degree hinge to maximize versatility and creativity possibilities. Thanks to its unique hinge structure the 2-in-1 functions as both a laptop and tablet, letting users choose the mode they prefer for their favorite activities such as browsing the web, watching videos or creating and viewing content. But this versatility doesn’t mean that the LG gram 2-in-1 is delicate. On the contrary, this device also meets the U.S. military MIL-STD-810G standard for durability.

The convertible laptop comes with a Wacom AES 2.0 Pen with 4,096 pressure levels and tilt detection, enabling a natural, precise drawing experience. The LG gram 2-in-1 features Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5 which is known for its resistance against drops, scratches or bumps to help protect its gorgeous display. What’s more, the 2-in-1 convertible employs LG’s premium IPS display technology guaranteeing outstanding picture quality from any viewing angle. Powered by a large 72W battery, this gram can operate for up to 21 hours between charges.

“LG gram has evolved in accordance with what consumers have been asking for – super-light laptops that pair performance with optimum portability,” said Jang Ik-hwan, head of LG’s IT business division. “With beautiful displays, compelling design and enough power for productivity and play, the 2019 LG gram models deliver convenience on a whole new scale, bringing unprecedented value to the laptop experience.”

Visitors to LG’s booth at CES 2019 will experience firsthand the new features of the 2019 LG gram models.

Automated Process and Exclusive Technologies
Deliver Total DIY Solution for Beer Enthusiasts

Kitchen with LG HomeBrew placed on the countertop

SEOUL, Dec. 11, 2018 — LG Electronics (LG) will debut a capsule-based craft beer making machine, LG HomeBrew, at CES 2019. A winner of a 2019 CES Innovation Award, the state-of-the-art device makes the brewing process incredibly easy thanks to its single-use capsules, optimized fermentation algorithm and convenient self-cleaning feature, the ideal product for anyone seeking the satisfaction of creating their own cold, tasty beer.

LG’s unique capsule-based system brings revolutionary simplicity to the art of brewing with one-touch activation. With a set of single-use capsules – which contain malt, yeast, hop oil and flavoring – and the press of a button, users can relax as LG HomeBrew automates the whole procedure from fermentation, carbonation and aging to serving and cleaning. A free companion app (for Android and iOS devices) lets users check HomeBrew’s status at any time, anywhere.

HomeBrew not only offers an incredibly simple way to make craft beer, it also enhances the quality of beer it makes. An optimized fermentation algorithm intelligently controls the fermenting process with precise temperature and pressure control for guaranteed brewing success. The clever capsule system also removes all the cleaning-related frustrations associated with traditional home-brewing methods. It automatically sanitizes using nothing more than hot water, ensuring everything is hygienically clean for the next batch.

Designed with discerning beer lovers in mind, HomeBrew allows for the in-home production of various popular styles insuring excellent results with every batch. Five distinctive, richly-flavored beers are sure to impress: hoppy American IPA, golden American Pale Ale, full-bodied English Stout, zesty Belgian-style Witbier and dry Czech Pilsner. It can produce up to five liters of premium quality beer in approximately two weeks depending on the beer type.

“LG HomeBrew is the culmination of years of home appliance and water purification technologies that we have developed over the decades,” said Song Dae-hyun, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “Homebrewing has grown at an explosive pace but there are still many beer lovers who haven’t taken the jump because of the barrier to entry and these are the consumers we think will be attracted to LG HomeBrew.”

Visitors to CES 2019 from January 8-11 will be able to experience LG’s s revolutionary HomeBrew at booth #11100 in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

ALL ABOUT THE LG V40 THINQ AND ITS SUPERB SOUND

(Last in a 3 Part Series)

This third and final episode in the All About The LG V40ThinQ series takes a look under the hood of the phone’s impressive audio capabilities.

A Carmine Red LG V40 ThinQ is placed faced down on a New Moroccan Blue LG V40 ThinQ smartphone.

Since the announcement of the LG V40ThinQ much attention has been focused on its audio capabilities. This is because LG’s V series has a history of bringing innovative audio capabilities to smartphones. The LG V10 delivered 32-bit Hi-Fi DAC, the LG V20 was the first smartphone to feature a Hi-Fi Quad DAC and the LG V30 was the first major handset to support MQA technology for streaming high-resolution audio. The LG V40 takes smartphone audio to a new level via LG’s partnership with Meridian Audio.

A promotional image about the partnership between LG V40 ThinQ and Meridian Audio, LG V40 ThinQ’s screen displays a DJ playing music on the stage for a crowd in a club.

For those who might not be familiar with the name, Meridian Audio is a 41-year old British company that’s respected in the audio industry for its pursuit of high-fidelity excellence. When LG announced its partnership with Meridian at the end of 2017, the plan was to focus on LG’s audio products such as XBOOM wireless speakers and home theater system soundbars. The smooth partnership led to Meridian’s involvement in the LG V40ThinQ, the first smartphone to be tuned in collaboration with Meridian.

The image introduces the 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC by describing a headphone plug approaching to the headphone jack of the LG V40 ThinQ.

The 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC in the LG V40ThinQ works with wired headphones to deliver incredibly detailed audio that comes extremely close to replicating the quality of original studio recordings. To achieve the same level of clarity with other smartphones would require the use of a bulky and expensive external amplifier.

An image to visualize the Boombox Speaker feature of LG V40 ThinQ, the sound ripples come out from the phone.

First introduced in the LG G7ThinQ, Boombox Speaker is also featured in the LG V40ThinQ. Boombox Speaker utilizes the cleverly designed internal space of the phone as a resonance chamber to deliver extra low-end bass for a powerful “boombox” effect without external speakers. This effect can be amplified by placing the smartphone on a solid surface or box, creating sound that seems like it should be coming from a much bigger high-end audio device.

An LG V40 ThinQ is on display at a promotional zone, demonstrating its powerful amplification when placed on a solid surface or box.

Better sound means a better listening experience when enjoying music and more immersiveness while gaming or watching movies on the LG V40ThinQ. For anyone interested in a phone with an amazing five cameras, gorgeous design and superb sound, the LG V40ThinQ has it all.

LG SINGS AND DANCES TO A WORLD RECORD

A big crowd dance to the upbeat TWINWash song in front of stage at LG’s TWINWash Song & Dance campaign

Earlier this month LG Electronics earned a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for a campaign that had hundreds of Mexicans singing and dancing. And when there are almost five hundred Latinos dancing to a beat, you can be sure a good time was had by all.

Another view of the crowd dancing at LG’s TWINWash Song & Dance campaign

The milestone was the result of LG’s TWINWash Song & Dance campaign in Mexico which not only resulted in a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title but also generated global interest in LG TWINWash.

A total of 497 people gathered in Mexico City’s historic Plaza Manuel Tolsá to perform “Running Man”, a characteristic dance step from LG’s latest TWINWash Challenge campaign that has been joined by celebrities and people from all over the world. A representative from Guinness World Records was on hand to supervise the world record attempt.

The company’s TWINWash Song & Dance challenge consisted of five simple routines, each symbolizing a different feature of LG TWINWash; Separate Wash, Delicate Wash, Simultaneous Wash, Big Capacity, and TWIN Wash. The fun, easy-to-follow dance encouraged maximum consumer participation and drew a clear parallel between the even and the LG TWINWash – a washing machine that keeps on running. The reach of the campaign was further expanded with many of the challenge participants actively sharing videos across social media.

ALL ABOUT THE LG V40 THINQ AND ITS GORGEOUS DESIGN

(2nd of a 3 Part Series)

.

The first installment of this three part series focused on the impressive five-camera setup of the LG V40ThinQ and its many benefits. Now let’s take a look at design, the key feature most people first notice when they set their eyes on this device.

Three LG V40 ThinQs face down on a table with back cases positioned in a brick pattern.

Ever since its teaser video, the LG V40ThinQ has garnered much buzz-worthy attention for many things but primarily for its unconventional design. Let’s take a look at its simple yet beautiful exterior and how it strikes a perfect balance between three core elements: smooth touch, unique color and seamless form.

1. Minimalist Design: Focusing on the Fundamentals

A backside view of LG V40 ThinQ’s which emanates the minimalist design profile

Reveal the Essence, Refine Minimal. This is the design philosophy behind the LG V40ThinQ, an embodiment of beautiful simplicity void of unnecessary elements. Confident in its advanced abilities, the LG V40ThinQ speaks volumes with its self-assured subtlety, delivering understated style without compromising user comfort.

2. Bigger Screen and Optimal Comfort in the Hand

The LG V40 ThinQ sitting flush in the palm of a man’s hand

Anything viewed on the large 6.4-inch FullVision OLED display of the LG V40ThinQ is a sight to behold. Clear, crisp with superb contrast and color.

Often, however, displays of this size can make mobiles unwieldy and difficult to grip. Well aware of this fact, LG’s designers cleverly created a big-screen device that feels smaller in the hand, making it comfortable to hold and use.

The LG V40ThinQ is only .3mm (.01-inch) wider than the LG V30ThinQ and just 7.1mm (.28-inch) longer in total, while the screen itself is a substantial 12mm longer. By giving users more of what they want (screen) and less of what they don’t (unnecessary bulk), LG has captured the essence of good design in its new classic.

Two photos show the 2:1 display ratio of LG V30 ThinQ on the left and the 2.1:1 ratio of LG V40 ThinQ on the right respectively.

[2:1 Ratio of LG V30ThinQ]                                               [2.1:1 Ratio of LG V40ThinQ]

3. A Look and Feel to Fall in Love With

A woman holds up and looks at the display of the LG V40 ThinQ in the Carmine Red color.

These days, it seems like all smartphones subscribe to the minimalist design trend. With many new smartphone models nowadays sporting glossy, smooth rear-casings covered in glass, it has become harder and harder to tell one phone from another. Committed to inspired design, LG took a fresh approach to aesthetics in the LG V40ThinQ with the implementation of Silky Blast, a process whereby the tempered glass rear-casing is etched with microscopic pits to create a surface that feels great and offers improved grip.

A Carmine Red LG V40 ThinQ is placed on LG V40 ThinQ smartphones in two different colors – New Platinum Grey and New Moroccan Blue.

Available in four striking colors, the smartphone demonstrates LG’s understanding that consumers want choices – compelling choices that are as unique as each individual. The LG V40ThinQ gives consumers the luxury to decide which color best reflects their own personality and sense of style.

Four LG V40 ThinQ smartphones in New Aurora Black, New Platinum Grey, New Moroccan Blue and Carmine Red are placed in a brick pattern.

Power players and the classically inclined might opt for New Aurora Black, or perhaps New Platinum Grey. The free-spirited and artistically inclined may be drawn to New Moroccan Blue, while Carmine Red might capture the eyes of those whose Instagram feeds are dedicated exclusively to all-things fashion.

Stay tuned for the last installment of this series which will explore the superb audio capabilities of this handset.

SMARTER LIFE WITH LG

Smart technology has long been a staple of future technology forecasting. Though the public’s enthusiasm for smart technology never quite matched that of industry insiders, smart technology has finally truly arrived.

People gathering at the entrance of the LG ThinQ AI zone at IFA 2018

However, the increased market penetration of smart appliances has not been achieved based on the appeal of smart technology alone. Rather it is the continued inclusion of smart capabilities on top-of-the-line – and now mid-tier – products that has resulted in growing adoption.

A concept image about the enhanced connectivity of LG ThinQ AI-enabled home appliances

With the industry’s most extensive range of smart appliances available today, LG Electronics is offering consumers more ways to control their home and enjoy the benefits of a connected home experience, ushering in cutting-edge connectivity and convenience and expanding the Google Assistant compatibility and functionality for LG smart appliances.

LG ThinQ AI-enabled products and a Natuzzi’s Colosseo sofa are on display at the Smart Living Concept zone in Natuzzi Italia.

LG developed the “Smart Living Concept” with Natuzzi Italia, Italy’s largest furniture house. The centerpiece of the Smart Living Concept is Natuzzi’s Colosseo sofa that uses technology powered by LG SIGNATURE to redefine the smart home living room experience. For example, using the Google Assistant capability in the LG SIGNATURE OLED TV and LG AI speakers, the ergonomic, tech-enabled sofa can recognize the user and interact with TV and other smart devices such as the air purifier and refrigerator, and even control smart lighting and thermostats.

LG SETS OUT TO SHOW THAT DISABILITY DIVERSITY IN TECH IS GOOD FOR EVERYONE

Two presenters announce the start of the 8th Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities on stage, which was sponsored by LG

In recent years, the media has shone a spotlight on the importance of cultivating diversity in the tech sector but there is one aspect of diversity that remains largely untouched: ability. One of the criticisms of the technology industry is that by focusing primarily on products it has forgotten about people. Corporations need to show greater commitment to disability inclusion in product development as well as global development.

Once again partnering with Rehabilitation International Korea (RI Korea), LG hosted the 8th Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities (GITC), this year in India.

LG has been organizing the Global IT Challenges for youth with disabilities since 2011 in association with RI Korea to help eradicate the digital divide among young people with special needs and help establish a foundation for social advancement for them. As part of the GITC, LG is making available educational material co-produced by Seoul National University’s MMLAB (Internet Convergence and Security Research Laboratory) and Inha University’s Technology Talent Center with the goal for participants to learn about technology and utilize it in real life.
