LG OLED CANYON WOWS CES ATTENDEES

Unique Immersive Installation Showcases Capabilities of
Customizable LG Open Frame OLED Commercial Displays

A view of the LG OLED Canyon at CES 2018.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 9, 2018 — A unique, immersive installation that leverages flexible, eye-popping commercial display technology from LG Electronics (LG), is wowing attendees at CES® 2018 here this week. The winding 90-foot-long LG OLED Canyon features 246 LG Open Frame OLED displays, in concave and convex configurations, giving tens of thousands of visitors a one-of-a-kind experience of natural wonders.

LG OLED technology uses self-lighting pixels for exact control of image brightness and image quality, and with no separate light source the displays are extremely lightweight, thin and flexible. Using this unique technology, LG Open Frame OLED displays for business-to-business applications are able to flex for a truly customizable approach that is both a work of art and functional digital signage.

Welcoming visitors to LG’s sprawling CES booth adjacent to the main entrance of the Las Vegas Convention Center, the LG OLED Canyon features 90 concave and 156 convex Open Frame screens. Visitors can walk through a 28m long twisting canyon trail and experience alluring images produced by a total of two billion self-emissive OLED pixels. The incredible video experience, featuring impactful natural wonders such as forest, glacier, waterfall, blizzard and others, is further enhanced by immersive Dolby Atmos audio, which also is included in 2018 LG OLED TVs for the consumer market.

LG OLED technology has created a new high-end category of displays that delivers an awe-inspiring picture with perfect blacks and incredible color, even from wide viewing angles, unlike any LCD and LED display. Thanks to OLED technology’s unique ability to turn each pixel on or completely off, LG OLED displays bring colors to life like never before while creating an infinite contrast.

Visitors to LG’s CES 2018 booth (Las Vegas Convention Center, Central Hall #11100) this week are able to experience the LG OLED Canyon firsthand.

LG ENTERS DEEPTHINQ MODE TO ADVANCE AI PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

Proprietary Deep Learning Platform to Power Product Development

A panorama view of LG’s DeepThinQ 1.0 booth.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2018 — LG Electronics is developing its proprietary deep learning-based artificial intelligence technology with the rollout of its own AI development tool to all LG business divisions in line with its efforts to speed up the release of new products equipped with the latest technology.

DeepThinQ 1.0 was developed last year with the establishment of LG’s Artificial Intelligence Lab in Korea to accelerate research into AI. The platform enables easy integration of AI into a wider range of products, allowing LG product developers to apply deep-learning technologies to future products. In line with the open strategy of its recently announced AI brand ThinQ, LG products developed with DeepThinQ – from mobile devices to home appliances – will deliver a comprehensive user experience by linking a host of technologies and solutions to its state-of-the-art AI platform.

DeepThinQ 1.0 boasts AI functions such as voice, video and sensor recognition and space and human body detection, developed with data gleaned from usage habits of LG customers over the years. DeepThinQ 1.0 was designed from the ground up with openness and diversification in mind, supporting a variety of operating platforms such as Android, Linux and webOS.

And with LG ThinQ, “live and learn” takes on a whole new meaning. Products developed on the DeepThinQ platform educate themselves using cloud servers to become smarter over time. This learning feature is at the heart of DeepThinQ, allowing LG AI products to understand not only their external environments but also the behavioral patterns of their customers. For example, LG ThinQ air conditioner learns customers’ living patterns over time and cools the room automatically to the temperature preferred by the occupant. In the car, LG’s cabin monitoring technology learns the driver’s facial expressions and gestures and recognizes the moment the driver starts to get drowsy. Eventually, ThinQ will be able to automatically adjust the music, lighting or climate inside the car by learning about the passengers who most often occupy the car.

DeepThinQ is already changing the way certain products targeting the commercial and consumer sectors are designed. LG’s Airport Guide Robots at Korea’s Incheon International Airport employs sophisticated ambient noise to improve voice recognition enabling passengers to be better understood. LG’s robot vacuum cleaner learns the difference between a chair and a dog and navigates accordingly.

“DeepThinQ is the embodiment of our open philosophy – to provide the most powerful AI solutions to our customers via a strategy of open platform, open partnership and open connectivity,” said Dr. I.P. Park, Chief Technology Officer at LG Electronics. “ThinQ will completely change the way consumers use our products because ThinQ products will learn about them to provide intelligent services, not the other way around.”

LG’S CONNECTED APPLIANCE NETWORK MAKES THE FUTURE KITCHEN MORE DELIGHTFUL

Offers Seamless Connectivity Through InstaView ThinQTM,
EasyClean® Oven Range and QuadWashTM Dishwasher

LG EasyClean® oven range, QuadWash™ dishwasher, InstaView refrigerator and microwave featuring the LG ThinQ™ logo and the text “Kitchen Solution”

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7, 2018 — At CES 2018, LG Electronics will present its vision for the connected smart kitchen of the future that predicts consumer needs and reduces preparation time. Offering a hands-free experience that takes much of the stress out of preparing daily meals, LG’s smart kitchen products such as the InstaView ThinQ™ refrigerator, EasyClean® oven range and QuadWash™ dishwasher increase efficiency to allow more quality time at home.

LG InstaView ThinQ is the culmination of cutting-edge refrigeration technology and convenience and efficiency. Featuring a 29-inch touch LCD display that transforms from a computer display to a transparent window with just two knocks, the intelligent refrigerator recommends delicious recipes based on what is on hand to provide a revolutionary answer to the timeless question of what to eat for dinner. Once a recipe is selected, the fridge automatically sends the information to a connected oven with Alexa verbally guiding the chef through each step of the process, for a fuss-free cooking experience. Users can also access and listen to their favorite songs on Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, and other streaming music services directly on the InstaView ThinQ for a more pleasant cooking and dining experience.

What’s more, the InstaView ThinQ refrigerator offers a streamlined food management system through LG’s webOS platform and Alexa’s voice recognition technology. The Smart Tag feature allows the addition of stickers, tags and expiration dates to food stored in the smart fridge, issuing alerts as an item reaches its expiration date. When grocery shopping, users can check the contents of the refrigerator via their smartphones connected to the wide-angle PanoramaView camera inside the InstaView ThinQ.

Through partnerships with companies such as Innit and SideChef, LG’s Wi-Fi-enabled AI appliances can provide a wider variety of services to users. The LG EasyClean oven connected to the appropriate app can access recipe information wirelessly and automatically begin preheating at a specific temperature at a set time. When the oven needs cleaning – made simpler by the advanced hydrophilic enamel coating – a notification is automatically sent to the homeowner’s smartphone. And the over-the-range hood and lamp switch on automatically when the cooktop is in use.

To make cleaning up a much more manageable affair, the LG EasyClean oven sends relevant information to the connected QuadWash dishwasher which then sets the appropriate wash cycle based on the dish prepared. For example, the intelligent dishwasher will select a longer running cycle with hotter water for a greasy dish than with a light vegetable casserole. The QuadWash technology comprised of four multi-motion spray arms allows for the fast and meticulous cleaning of items of all shapes and sizes. Both the EasyClean oven and QuadWash dishwasher can be monitored using voice commands LG CLOi robot.

“The seamless connectivity inherent in LG’s smart kitchen solution will revolutionize the cooking and dining habits of consumers,” said Song Dae-hyun, president of LG’s Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “By streamlining food preparation and cleanup from start to finish, LG’s use of artificial intelligence in the kitchen enhances quality of life by offering innovative solutions to everyday struggles in the kitchen.”

Visitors to CES 2018 can personally experience LG’s smart kitchen solutions from January 9-12 in booth #11100 of Central Hall in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
